I struggle with keeping my sewing space organized. Hard to find room for all the things you need to quilt. I did enjoy your video very much, I admired your courage to let everyone into your sewing space. I liked your 5 steps, and will try to follow your example.
Why is it so much more fun to watch someone else clean up their space? I really need to do a complete overhaul of my space, but I don’t want to do it. My first goal, when Christmas sewing is done, is to take my main machine in to be serviced, is to go through my room and organize. Hopefully, I will find everything I put “somewhere safe” during the clean up. I know I just need to write down what is safe and where it is..
I really felt your”pain” only mine was about a month ago, it took me at least three days but oh how wonderful it is to have everything cleaned up. I’m really good about keeping it up for three or four months but have vowed to clean it up after each project, only time will tell, lol. Thanks for the video, it was good for-my soul, knowing I am not the only messy quilter.
Omg, I just came from a long de-stashing session in the studio I share with my daughter today. At 75, I know that I will never run out of stuff to make more stuff out of! So I decided to give my daughter the gift of less stuff to inherit, lol! I have declared that my future art forms will be quilting, knitting and rug hooking, period! Goodbye to woodworking, leather crafting, weaving, and anything else that I can think of! I released so many cubic feet of natural textiles to the local thrift stores. I hope it t all ends up in wonderful completed projects! And there’s still more to sort through….
I’m 74 and I have a total mess in my sewing room. My son in law wants my stuff eventually. My son, whom I live with, says that 15 minutes after I’m gone he’s calling Ron to haul it all out.
It is good to know that "I am not alone"!!! I'm inspired to do some "tidy-up" in my sewing space. BTW I don't think you are crazy.....I too have a bag of bags and I do use them! (I also have that gray thirty-one tote with the snowmen on it.) Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration!
Your video just happened in my feed. I can 100% relate to everything! I will be using this video to clean my craft area. I have subscribed and will be watching your other videos. Thanks for being real and helping us.
While you were removing clutter, one of your cats seemed to enjoy all that you were doing. The little dog looked up now and then (and stayed in place). My sewing room looks worse than yours did. Great job.
Great info. I also have a basket by the dooe that i put anything that goes upstairs. My cutting table is my worst area as i have 8 projects that i usually cut for. I make quilts for an Africa hospital and for our service people overseas.
I just spent three days going through every bag, box, bin, tote, and stack of “stuff” in my sewing room. I didn’t put things in piles, I used small bins and as I emptied totes, moved things from the bins to the totes. Every box and tote I have now has a lid and is labeled and all the fabric yardage has been put on comic boards and resides in the fabric closet. All my WIPs are in one tote and I’m ready to get them finished now in a cleaner more organized space.
This is how I tidy too. Make piles of similar stuff or stuff that goes in the same place then put the piles away. It saves a lot of time. It’s so satisfying getting everything squared away.
I so needed this! Thank you so much for sharing. This is not meant as a criticism, really, but I prefer it when the camera doesn't move whenever your face moves. Love your content. ❤👍from Somerset UK
Hello April ! Excellent job ! Your sewing space is awesome ! Fortunately (or not😂!) for me ,I am an OCD person . I always leave my sewing room in order because I want to enter next day in a clear room! 😊. Your videos are so inspiring for me ! Best wishes from Bucharest ❤🇷🇴
I feel so called out 😂. Yours is the second video I've watched today that offered Skillshare' organizing info. The first was a crochet video and now yours. Of course, I'm in the middle of playing with both yarn and fabric 😂😂😂
Call me a weirdo lol but I love to watch you gals clean your sewing spaces!! For one reason it gives me ideas of how to clean up my disaster. And it’s also fun to see what kind of things you have going on. I have had health issues for the past couple months and my sewing room has become a drop off. I walk in there and just say “UGH!” I can’t wait to get better and clean it up!!
My sewing space is our spare room and we all know what gets put in the spare room. It's tidy - I'm great at putting things in drawers, but that just means that I have entire drawer units full of stuff that we don't need anymore lol. I started clearing stuff out today - i have an appointment not far from our closest ikea (an hr away) in a few weeks' time and I am multitasking that trip for some new furniture. My husband thinks I'm nesting because our daughter sat her final high school yesterday - had to tell him that's not what nesting is 😂😂
Watching for inspiration. I need to move my studio into the office to combine functions and give us a guest room. Just finished a 6’x6’ temperature blanket and 3 full size afghans for my grandchildren ( MIL made 3 for my kids. They all have them out and using them in their own homes.) I’m an older grandmother and want them to remember Nana. ❤ note- I also quilt and sew.
If you have a place for everything…you know to back there at the end of your sewing session, yes everyday ! That way it will be when go back for it when you need it again. It alway feels good for tidy room. Great job!
great ideas. My space looks like yours because I stopped everything when my mom passed away and then I couldn't make sense of the mess. This great ideas, such as making piles instead of trying to put one thing away at a time like I was doing. I'm going to hit it a different way now! Thanks!
My room is a mess right now. This is a project for after Christmas. I'm going to focus on what I'm wanting to do before Christmas right now. (Sounds like an excuse to me too😂)
We just moved and my designated sewing room is full of all my sewing n art boxes. It will have to wait till the new yea before I will have time to organize. Can’t wait!
My room is the same clutter and clutter; when I organize everything and when I start a new project everything come back to the way it was CLUTTER. LOL 😂 is my FUN PLACE to BE ME in my entire house doing something that I enjoy.
Looks like my crowded sewing studio. I need to go through my stuff. Bags of clothes to be altered etc. I too have Sew Steady quilt rulers and love them. I keep all my quilt rulers together separate from my other rulers.
Hi! My sewing space is in my living room, and because by medical definition I’m blind I now need to be ultra organised, I’m slowly labelling all my boxes of fabrics, English Paper Piecing Acrylics and Papers, and my projects with QR code labels so I no longer need to open every box and drawer to check what they contain. I’m hoping it will help me finish a bunch of projects and progress others.
Your room looks like you don't stress too much about things, which isn't a bad thing. me on the other hand can't work in a cluster. SO I clean every day. Great job on cleaning and organizing your room.
I know I should declutter, instead I stash away, I know there's things I should let go, instead I dream a new project, I've got bins, I've got cubbies, I've got shelves and bags and boards, and still my room looks like a contender to defeat anyone else's hoard. Need a seam ripper I've got 30 stashed away somewhere, never have to worry about my fabric scissors being used for paper cuz they can't be found anyways. I have one rotary cutter with a new blade, the 5 (or was it 6) others are all dull and due a change. And I used to bemoan and huff and puff cleaning up the mess. Dreaming of the precuts I could make from stash of scraps, turning them into neat little bundles easy to grab and use. And then one day it hit me... Martha Stewart I am not, my creativity thrives in chaos and is stifled in fear of a mess. So I have a chest to shove my scraps, a place to put my aside my fabric for projects, and some drawers for my tools. The rest can do as it will. Shove it to the left, shove it to the right, toss it up on a shelf or stick it down below. If I need it I can hunt and if I don't then that's fine too. I've too many things to do to spend a month cleaning everything and stacking it all away pretty and neat to where I never want to use it because I just cleaned.
My "organized stuff" was permanetly fixed by our house fire last December! No, it didn't start there; it started with grandson's laptop charger. Finally back home after 10 months . Check your home insurance is up to date!!
I clean my space after I complete the project and then I will go to the next project. Have a separate tote for scrapes, all scrapes are donated, fabric, sewing tools and misc items. I don't use pre-cuts, I'd rather cut my fabric from yardage.....
I also have a bag of bags. Every order, it seems, comes in a zip bag, so I keep them in a bag (ha) and re-use them for Amazon returns or to separate blocks once they've been cut or to put projects that need finishing, etc. Way to reuse and recycle! :)
Oh Miss April you are giving me the momentum to tackle my storage room tomorrow!! I have 3 quilts to longarm so what better time to declutter? It always feels much better to start off in a clean space but finding or making the time to clean up always seems to get pushed back further and further 🫣😝🫣 we just have too many creative ideas floating around in our head. 😜 can’t wait for the retreat! It’s gonna be epic. 🤗🤗
This cracks me up. My new room is not even set up yet and i already know its 1) not big enough 2) i have way too much fabric 3) I don't have enough cabinets, shelves or bins to organize or should I say hide it all 4 )it will always need decluttering 5) My kids will hate me when im gone for leaving them such a mess to deal with. 😂😂😂😂
You forgot to mention #6 - Don’t bring anything new into the house! I know for me, that is a huge stumbling block! Curious about your thoughts, & how you will handle this going forward? Another question - it seems like you have a lot of furniture & assorted things in your space. Can you remove any of these items to open up your space, & give you more room to move around?I have been trying to do the same thing in my space, but had a setback in May, when I had to have spine surgery. Now, I find myself easily distracted, & I have to be careful lifting & moving things. So, I understand completely, & I feel your pain!!!
Very helpful video. We are all in the same boat. Can you do a tutorial on the project bag. I would love to make some being they don't take up a lot of space. Great video!!
I started trying to organize my sewing room this week. I now have cut two kits for Project Linus and one of them is half sewn together! Just call me Squirrelly! 😂
I love your space. My space is a 10x10 bedroom. Which I have a big desk, a 6foot longarm. my sewing machine and a MB4 embroidery machine. With a closet full of fabric. I do have a bugh SWF embroidery machine in another room and two book shelves in my master bedroom that hold a lot of fabric. I wish I could have all of my stuff in one space. I need to do the same and do a big clean up.
I understand - my Grace Long Arm is upstairs because I don't have room in my basement. I just look at it as I will get in my steps since my hobby keeps expanding outside of its original boundaries. LOL
I'm a little OCD so I always try to keep my sewing room organized. It's a pain in the patootie sometime but it always makes me feel better when I pick up after myself.
I use a laundry basket for things that belong in another room. When I am done cleaning my sewing room, everything is in a basket to be delivered to whichever room they belong in. PS. Don’t get me wrong, my sewing room is still a disaster!!
Great video. I save bags too, but you’re more organized with them! I need save a specific place to keep them and be sure that it’s large enough to put more in!
@@aprilscraftroomomg. lol. Too funny, but they sure come in handy! My Mom saved and used any plastic bag that came into the house. Found some pantyhose bags with bits of lace in them!
I’ve never been to a sewing retreat. Can you explain one to newbies? Will we be working on a joint project? Will there be certain classes? Do we need to bring all our own machines, tools, and materials?
Put things away after each project completion.i also have unfinished projects in plastic scrapbook containers. I have an umbrella stand for long rulers.
I find it amazing that I have two very large sewing spaces and they are both still cluttered. I blame the squirrel!😂 We have a saying in our house: “any horizontal space” ! They always tend to collect anything and everything!
I have squirrels running around my house across my desks and sewing tables all the time!!! They are so cute and fuzzy that I just can't ignore them. LOL
Welcome to the club
Nice to know I'm not the only one that gets squirreled when picking up. I like the idea of making piles and not leaving the room
Definitely me. I start and change rooms /projects. Glad to know I'm not aline.
Serious ADHD here, so yeah, I get it.
Maxine disagrees with cat food not belonging in there. My dog says treats need to become a part of the sewing room.
Me too. Or I forgot why I walked i to the room. I had a goal, but I hum. At times, I forget what that might be.
Aw girl, you're not alone. Us crafty creative people are organized- challenged. We want to create!!!
I struggle with keeping my sewing space organized. Hard to find room for all the things you need to quilt. I did enjoy your video very much, I admired your courage to let everyone into your sewing space. I liked your 5 steps, and will try to follow your example.

I really am enjoying this video. I know clutter is embarrassing, but a lot of us have this problem. Thanks so much for the motivation!!! 🎉❤✝️🌅🕊️🙏😇
Thank you
Your video just happened in my feed. I can 100% relate to everything! I will be using this video to clean my craft area. I have subscribed and will be watching your other videos. Thanks for being real and helping us.
Thank you. I am so glad you found me!
I moved, that's what cleaned and organized my sewing room 😊
That's great!
I have a rule, after every quilt I make I clean up my sewing room. And then I can start another quilt. I keeps me accountable.
Me too. Can not operate in clutter. My fabric and cutting table upstairs in small bedroom. Sewing machine and iron down in family room.
I like labeling my project boxes so i can tell what is in them at a glance.
While you were removing clutter, one of your cats seemed to enjoy all that you were doing. The little dog looked up now and then (and stayed in place). My sewing room looks worse than yours did. Great job.
Beautiful quilt, love the colors and excellent on the corners 😊
Thank you so much!
I’m watching your video in my newly cleaned and organized craft room. Just do it crafters. It feels so good when done.

I have a similar problem, the thing that usual gives is my sanity!
Your craft room is twice the size of my apartment.
Make that 3X the size lol
I identify with the clutter. I do the same but I enjoy organizing the materials and am always surprised with what I find! ❤
Thanks for sharing, I am trying to organize my room too.

Enjoying the replay ❤

I love the concept of this video. I was having a hard time watching it though, I was getting motion sick
Sorry was trying out a new camera
Agree with you on the motion sickness…😵💫
I don't feel so bad anymore. Thank you so much. I am a horrible squirrel. I start and stop 10 times in a hour.

We do have at least some of the energy. Even if you need to do a little each day.
I love cleaning and organizing videos, I’d watch you folding fabric. Great fun video, so motivating!
Both Clutterbug and Minimal Mom can give you great ideas

If Kylie’s drawer was lower she could put her things away when done. Which helps you and her!
Great video! Loved the clear project bag, where did you get that?
It is a By Annie pattern if I remember correctly. You can use mesh or clear vinyl to make it. I could use more of those. :-)
Great information, a bit dizzy with all the video movement, but good information.
Sorry about that trying out new camera
Put things away after each project completion.i also have unfinished projects in plastic scrapbook containers. I have an umbrella stand for long rulers.
I find it amazing that I have two very large sewing spaces and they are both still cluttered. I blame the squirrel!😂 We have a saying in our house: “any horizontal space” ! They always tend to collect anything and everything!
I have squirrels running around my house across my desks and sewing tables all the time!!! They are so cute and fuzzy that I just can't ignore them. LOL
