Thank you for including the details of your accidental cutting the quilt. It makes me feel confident that you can carry on even when accidents happen ❤
The vibrancy of your fabric lines is so appealing and easy on the eyes. Not dark and depressing or shockingly bright. Thank you Corey for just the right shades. So very beautiful 🩷🩶🩵
I love teachers and pattern designers who put the “finished unit size” in their patterns! Why don’t they all do this I’ll never know! I alway have to do the math backwards to know what size before I go on… Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! You are so good to do that! One of the reasons I buy all your patterns!!! And no I’m not a carpenters daughter! But I’m well aware if I’m off a 1/8” to begin with soon I’ll be off a mile in the end…. Just saying.
I am sole care-giver for my mom. This would be a great "just do one block" quilt, since time is not my own. Also, I think I'll use sticky-notes above/below each step so that when I get interrupted (which I will) I'll come back to the right step. :)
You are such a dose of Happiness in my morning. I Love your videos. Thank you for the tutorial. That block looks more difficult than it is. I would not have attempted it, but now I may have to give it a go. Love the sweatshirt today. Too bad it is so hot in Texas. I might be able to wear a sweatshirt a couple times a year. See you next time.
Hi You can usually add another row or two to make the quilt a rectangle for tall people to use. Regarding pinning, I sometimes use glue to "pin" small pieces....works great!
Cute block. The blues you used makes the block have a wintery/ snowflake look. This block in blues would make a great table topper/runner. Thank you for the tutorial on this block.
I also do a pieced backing. I try and use all of my scraps from piecing the front. Some are big and some are potato chip size. I find that kind of sewing very freeing! No plan, just sit and figure out how things go together. I try to not get too wrapped up in making any shape or size, and also try to minimize the amount of scraps I “recreate” using this method. Makes for an interesting, although sometimes crazy, backing and keeps my scraps in check. Yes, it does take a fair amount of time and the project can get stalled because of that, but still worth it to me! Thanks Corey! Loving the weekly videos!!!
@@brookhaag7021 does the overall quilt get heavier with a potato chip backing? I think all those extra seam allowances mean extra fabric so it might feel heavier? I’m like Corey, I think a pieced backing would be interesting but once I’ve made my top I want to finish the quilt and move on to the next one, well done to you for having the creativity and patience to do a pieced backing
@ Yes, it does get heavier. Lots more fabric and lots more thread. It’s not THAT much heavier though. But I quite like a heavy quilt, as I live in a colder climate. If you used a lightweight poly batting, or wool, you could take away some of the weight. I prefer a 100% cotton batting, but not one that is real thick. I use Quilter’s Dream cotton select for almost all of my quilts.
Thank you for this lovely video! I always enjoy your videos and love your detailed teaching methods as well! You always look so cute, your hair is always perfect and your smile just makes my day! I am 70 and hoping to make my first quilt soon, your videos are making me feel confident that I can make one, my problem is choosing my fabrics, so many gorgeous fabrics!💗💗💗
I'm about to be 65 and have promised myself that next year is the year of the first quilt, for one son, then 4 more for the second son, his lady, my husband, and a Corey Yoder quilt for myself
The fabrics!...that's what drew me into quilt making....all of those beautiful fabrics to choose from. =) You're going to have so much fun making your first quilt and you can absolutely make one!
I’m excited for the Cali and Co fabric to be available in the quilt shops. The blues are beautiful! Loved the demo on the block you did today. Thank you!
Also a square quilt gives you the opportunity to make a pretty sham to put on the head side lengthening it to a rectanqular shape. Thanks Corey for the $5 patterns..... I love buying new fabric when I can get some off the pattern.
It’s my lucky day! I saw the Star Twist pattern and immediately knew I had to have it for my son’s quilt. And then discovered it was the deal of the month! Thank you for yet another beautiful pattern.
I really look forward to your videos. I am very new to quilting. I’m working on my second one now. I like it when go answer questions and when you go through specifics on making a block. I don’t often know what questions to ask, but I learn something from every single video. Your fabric lines are amazing. I have two packages of charm packs from a previous line and I’m saving them until I improve my skills a bit. Love your sweatshirt today! Thank you!!
I say this every time but I loved this video! Love love love that beautiful wide red border too! I always think aqua/teal/blue-green and reds are so complimentary. And after watching you share the instructions for piecing the Startwist block, what came to mind was my Kentucky grandmother (my mamaw) who was a lifelong quilter and crafter. She always told me to make sure the back looked as good as the front, no matter if it was a quilt block or a crochet project. The back needed to be as pretty as the front or it wasn't done correctly! And the back of your quilt block looked perfect, just as nice as the front! It's funny the things that remind us of our loved ones, especially those who have taught us skills and passed on valuable knowledge that comes in so handy in our lives. I didn't pick up quilting until a few years ago (and I'm 53,) and I wish my mamaw could have known how much I love and enjoy it all. ❤
Hi Corey. I really love seeing all of your beautiful quilts in your background. Your fabric collections are always so beautiful and give the quilts that snuggle factor that makes them perfect. Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts about quilting. I have learned so much from you. I hope you and your family are having a wonderful weekend. 💗 from Minnesota.
We had a very busy, fun weekend. My husband's 50th b-day was yesterday so of course we celebrated. And we also made a trip to visit my oldest...so she also got to see her dad on his birthday. =)
@CorianderQuilts Please wish your husband a belated Happy Birthday for me. I’m so happy that you were able to spend time with your oldest child. Here’s to a wonderful week.😊
I like square quilt on my bed for 2 reasons. 1- don't rectangle because I don't cover pillows with quilt and 2- you never have to worry about the right side up. They all work.
Good morning Corey it's so nice to see you today. I love that square you block you made today with the blue it shows beautiful. Big blessed Corey have a safe weekend❤
I started piecing backings probably four years ago during COVID. I had ordered the specified yardage for a back, but neglected to order extra for the one-way fabric! Bummer! Faced with two options, either order another piece of fabric and pay shipping OR utilize all the pieces left from the quilt, including half-square triangles and tons of 4x1.5" strips. You guessed it, that quilt now has a lovely rectangular medallion on the back! That was so much fun salvaging a disappointing mess- up that it's routine for me now! Thank you so much for your weekly video! I live in a small Texas county and rarely meet up.with like-minded quilters so my connection with you via your blog and your videos is such an important part of my golden year life!
That sounds like an amazing quilt backing....pieced backing can really add a lot to an already beautiful project. And I'm go glad you can join in on Saturdays...we have such a nice community of quilters!
TIP. Minute 3:04 If you are a seam spinner, if helps to always sew "top up, bottom down" so that all of your seam spin clockwise. If you are more random, sometimes choosing bottom up, top down" the you will also have counter clockwise spins. No big deal in some blocks/quilts. VERY big deal in others.
I love your videos! I especially like that you did a tutorial on your Pattern of the Month. This was so inspiring and I had to order the pattern! I’m excited to make it! 😊
This is a VERY informative video. I am going to have to watch it more than once to absorb all of the information you've given. Thank you so very much for all of the knowledge you share with us.
Love this pattern. Many thanks for the great tutorial. I really look forward to Saturdays. I have been spinning the seams since watching Eleanor Burns on her Quilt in A Day show on PBS over 40 years ago.
Good morning, Corey! Yay! I don't *think* I have Star Twist yet. I will have to double check. Thank you for the tutorial on this block, they are always helpful. I am also glad that the pros mis - cut, too. Just the other night, I read a step over and over. Had the measurements in my head, and then proceeded to cut them an inch bigger than they were supposed to be 🤦♀️ I wouldn't have thought to put such large borders on a small quilt, but I love the way that turned out!
Wonderful questions answered today Corey! We’re always learning new things from one another on here 😊 Star Twist pattern is really beautiful ❤ Will be purchasing it! I love the idea of keeping an extra fat quarter especially for me too because I am getting ready to make an Americana theme for making a quilt for me and my husband’s bed. I can sew other things that match the quilt! Thanks for always answering our questions or our comments. It shows you love hearing from all of your viewers❤❤❤
My piecing became much more accurate when I started using my walking foot for all of it. I was having the same problem that your listener asked about in your QA section of your video. I would pin a lot and despite that, the seams shifted while sewing. You must have heard me yelling "walking foot" right before you mentioned it! Other quilters use a small dot of glue to temporarily hold those seams together. Thank you, Corey, for another great and informative video.
Thank you for another great video, Corey! I have this pattern and a plan to use the blocks around a small Christmas tree quilt-along I did last year. I really appreciate the block tutorial!!
You make Saturdays so fun. I shy away from square quilts but I have made them, and I like your explanation of why some look better as a square. When I do nesting seams, if possible I have the top of the seam facing the needle just like you showed.
Thank you for all your great tips for quilting I learn something new everytime I get sewing. Love a walking foot that was a game changer for me. I've started pinning horizontally at each end to keep the fabric from shifting. I always pin vertically at start/end and at seams when I'm looking for sharp points and joins etc. X from 🇦🇺
I love your beautiful day line. I made a quilt for myself and my daughter loved it so much I gave it to her. So my quilt shop had more fabric so I remade it again for myself. I'm keeping this one.
I recently made a black and white Pineapple table runner for a wedding gift and wanted the seams to nest perfectly. And it would be very obvious if they didn't. I used a small drop of fabric to hold the seams in place as I sewed them. It was perfect! I had never done this before and it was a game changer. I also use "quilt tacks" -3-4 stitches at each intersection when nesting seams. It's easier to get the intersections perfect when I'm only doing a few stitches.
Another fun video! I enjoy a pieced back. I have often used panels on the back and then attached borders to achieve the correct size. This makes it reversible - two for the price of one!
Thank you Corey! Always love your videos. Thank you for sharing that you’re human & mistakes happen. No matter how hard we try, sometimes things don’t always go as planned. But to always make the best of the situation & move forward;) I’m heading right over to your blog! I have Star Twist & all of your Starberry fabrics ready to go to make it! One of my next projects;)
Love the colors in your Cali-Co fabric line and thank you for the block tutorial Corey. That is beyond my capabilities but it sure is a beautiful block and quilt. I love to tune in on Saturday mornings to learn of all the great information you share on viewers questions. Have a wonderful day!
I have that pattern cut up and ready to go. I should get on it. I REMEMBER when you accidentally cut the border off! You’re so human. ❤ A lot of half square triangles, at this point, I am a pro
What an interesting suggestion to sew with the seam going up when you nest the seams, it feels unnatural to me as I too prefer it when they don't fight with the foot of the machine but I'll try it this way and see, it does make sense when you think about it! And as for square quilts, I love them, love their symmetry, come to think of it 99% of the quilts I've made are square . Thanks Corey for another great video, you really take the time to think and answer our questions❤
I used to have issues with blocks coming apart. My stitch length was just a bit too long when I was sewing. They can try shortening the stitch length to see if it helps.
You can also use a drop of fabric glue at the seam intersection. Finished up my Cuddle Up Sampler top. I added a hanging Christmas tree ornament inside the wreath. Looks great!
Hi Corey! I also like piecing quilt backs like your other viewer but….sometimes that can go overboard! I recently pieced a quilt back and my goal was to use all of the leftover fabrics but make it look intentional….I ended up doing more piecing on that stinkin back than the front. It is basically a reversible quilt and really pretty but I learned my lesson. (I hope!!!! 😂) Thanks for the great video today!❤ Lori
Great quilts. I keep checking for the cali n co.... my fingers itching to have and cut. So beautiful. The blues are gorgeous, but then so are all of them!
Star Twist quilt pattern could have been made with the EPP pieces for the stars. I enjoy the different coloration renderings, as I feel I am color challenged. I am able to make scrappy quilts pretty easily. LOL I look forward to your Saturday VLOGS. FOR adding rows to square quilt patterns, on your example, I can add 2 columns and 3 more rows to balance the now rectangular pattern.
I like to make quilts for our queen size bed square if there isn’t a directional fabric in them. Not being concerned about which way to put the quilt on a bed is nice.
Hi Corey. I look forward to your videos. I always learn something new. I am doing the Cuddle up quilt along with you. I have been learning so much. I have 2 questions and would love your input. 1. Do you ever quilt your own quilts on your sewing machine, and do you have any tips. 2. Do you have any tips for binding around corners. Thanks Molly
Hi Molly!...thanks so much for watching. =) I shared a bit about my experience in machine quilting on my domestic machine in this video: ruclips.net/video/IBiDlOb9Q1U/видео.html as well as other ways to finish a quilt. And I have a machine binding tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/TSom8s63e3U/видео.html
I often use a tiny dab of Elmer’s glue (stick) on difficult seams or sometimes use a stabilizing (long) stitch or two to secure a seam into position before stitching with regular stitch length (sometimes I use both).
I prefer my top seam to go against because when it’s on the bottom, I’m more apt to have that one pops up & the flap gets stitched down going the wrong direction. But it’s not always possible as you said to sew the direction we want. Love all your tips.
29:40 When I make these type of flip and stitch patches, after I press the corners back to test them, I sew another parallel seam 1/2" into the extra so I can trim off an extra mini half-square patches. Then I can make a mini- pinwheel scrap quilt from all these trimmings somewhere down the road. I just hate tossing these cute corner pieces.
Thank you for including the details of your accidental cutting the quilt. It makes me feel confident that you can carry on even when accidents happen ❤
You absolutely can...most mistakes can be salvaged. =)
The vibrancy of your fabric lines is so appealing and easy on the eyes. Not dark and depressing or shockingly bright. Thank you Corey for just the right shades. So very beautiful 🩷🩶🩵
Thank you so much!...I am so drawn to bright, sunny colors. =)
Thanks for the spinning seams explanation! I've NEVER understood this. Now I do! You're the best!
I’m glad you found that helpful!
Thank you for your videos. You are such a sincere designer showing and talking about your mistakes. Love your fabrics and quilts. ❤
You're so welcome...it's fun to share!

I had thought I would not attempt the $5 pattern because it looked difficult. Thank you for the tutorial.
You're so welcome!

Thank you Corey! Always love your videos. Thank you for sharing that you’re human & mistakes happen. No matter how hard we try, sometimes things don’t always go as planned. But to always make the best of the situation & move forward;)
I’m heading right over to your blog! I have Star Twist & all of your Starberry fabrics ready to go to make it! One of my next projects;)
Have fun stitching it up!
Love the colors in your Cali-Co fabric line and thank you for the block tutorial Corey. That is beyond my capabilities but it sure is a beautiful block and quilt. I love to tune in on Saturday mornings to learn of all the great information you share on viewers questions. Have a wonderful day!
I am so glad to have you watching along on Saturdays. =)
The star twist quilt is beautiful!!
Thank you!
Thank you for the video. I really enjoy learning about your techniques. Your quilts are lovely.
Thank you!

I'm so glad you enjoy them!
Thank you! I love this month's sale pattern ❤
I'm so glad you like it!
great explanation of square vs. rectangle quilt design!
The blues look fabulous…can’t wait for this fabric!😍
It will be fun to see what you make with it.
I absolutely love the cupcake quilt!! I love the huge borders!!!
Those big borders made the finish so quick!
Good morning! I love your videos! You are so generous and kind! Thank you for being you! Your my newest best friend!
Aw, that’s so sweet! You’re the best!
I have that pattern cut up and ready to go. I should get on it. I REMEMBER when you accidentally cut the border off! You’re so human. ❤ A lot of half square triangles, at this point, I am a pro
So many HSTs!
I enjoyed this so much! Love your segments like this! Just to sit back and enjoy watching you go through everything is so satisfying. Thank you Cori!❤
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
You might find that it's not for you but it can be a nice option to have. =)
I love this pattern And your fabric is gorgeous
Thank you!
Thanks Corey that’s hint about Sean’s is very helpful ❤
I used to have issues with blocks coming apart. My stitch length was just a bit too long when I was sewing. They can try shortening the stitch length to see if it helps.
Shortening stitch length often helps if you are having trouble with seams opening up.
You can also use a drop of fabric glue at the seam intersection. Finished up my Cuddle Up Sampler top. I added a hanging Christmas tree ornament inside the wreath. Looks great!
I'm so glad you all are mentioning glue basting...that's such a great technique!
It sounds like it would be so pretty!
love this quilt pattern. thanks for sharing🙂
You're so welcome!
Great quilts. I keep checking for the cali n co.... my fingers itching to have and cut. So beautiful. The blues are gorgeous, but then so are all of them!
It should be here before too long!
Thank you for the directions love this block😊
You're very welcome!
Love the Star twist quilt…I think I’ve already bought it😂 but I do need to make it.
Have fun stitching it up!
Hi Corey, wow thanks for all of the information.
You're so welcome!
Star Twist quilt pattern could have been made with the EPP pieces for the stars.
I enjoy the different coloration renderings, as I feel I am color challenged. I am able to make scrappy quilts pretty easily. LOL
I look forward to your Saturday VLOGS.
FOR adding rows to square quilt patterns, on your example, I can add 2 columns and 3 more rows to balance the now rectangular pattern.
Thanks so much for watching along on Saturdays...it's always so much fun to chat with everyone after. =)
I love everything you do… thank you for bringing us the lives they make my day!
I'm so glad you watch along!
YAY Corey. So good to see you. Give Tiggs a hug for us.
Will do!
I love the red border. Thank you for sharing.
I thought it turned out so pretty!
Love your quilts. And your hoodie 😍👏👏
Thank you!
I'm so glad you all are mentioning glue basting...that's such a great technique!
Great tips & solutions! Thank you🫶
You're so welcome!
I prefer my top seam to go against because when it’s on the bottom, I’m more apt to have that one pops up & the flap gets stitched down going the wrong direction. But it’s not always possible as you said to sew the direction we want. Love all your tips.
They can flip from the bottom, can't they!
For the issue about seams coming apart while sewing, you can also check your presser foot pressure.
Thank you I have Beautiful Day just sitting for the right pattern
It's one of the ones I designed for Beautiful Day and I think it is lovely!
Fabric I have been saving Till I found the right pattern . Thank you so much
You're so welcome!
Great video. Lots of good information.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
This was such a fun half hour you make it so fun
I'm so glad you think so!
Another great way to save those scraps fun a fun future project!
Please show us the donation quilt when it’s quilted and bound. Love the wide border idea for the barn stars. ❤️
I will be sure to!
I add narrow sides and wide top and bottom borders to most of my quilts.
Thank you for answering my question!
You're so welcome!
Great video! I love your sweatshirt.
Thank you!
I think a square quilt is great on a bed, it doesn’t matter which way it goes. You can turn it so it will wear evenly.
