      The Fast Lane Truck here in South Africa with the Ranger you can only get 3 engine choices which aren't too bad actually. The 3.2 5cylinder tdci (147kw 470kw) and the 2.2 4cylinder tdci (118kw 385nm) ,there is a 2.5 petrol NA option but wasn't too popular. The Mazda BT50 run with the same engines.

      That is the Thai made Ranger. I am wondering if the American Ranger is the same Ford of Australia engineered and design as the Thai produced one.

      The South African Ford Ranger is built in the Silverton plant in South Africa alongside the Ford Everest, the diesel motors are built in the Port Elizabeth plant. SA builds the right hand drive models as from 2015/2016. There's a great rivalry here between the Ranger fans and Toyota Hilux (built in Durban, South Africa) fans

    From someone (in engineering) who is familiar with the global platform, I am actually pleasantly surprised how much they updated for the north american market. I was expecting some new colors and steering wheel placement (even then it would hang with the rest of the midsize group). But no, the team decided to offer an awesome little engine and transmission combo. I love manuals, I drive one, but they are dead in the north american market, same with regular cabs. Ford is not a charity, they want to make money. This power train combo will hit the sweet spot of power, performance, and driveability that will max sales for the simplest investment we can make right now. The higher ups will only consider more performance in the specialty versions like the raptor ranger and bronco where it is both necessary and lower risk to cannibalizing the F-150 sales. As for appearance, that BUMPER! unlike the taco, colorado and (global platform), this thing has a proper front end. Trucks don't have "facia".

    • @ChrisJohnson-vm1su
      @ChrisJohnson-vm1su 5 лет назад

      Do you know much about the global Ranger? I moved to the UK a while back and got myself one thinking I could lift it like my old F150. So far I can't find any good lift kits for them. There are a few Australian and Thai ones but I don't like the look of them. I wanted to get myself a BDS kit but I don't know if there are any differences in the trucks that would cause problems fitting it. I've contacted BDS and Rough Country and they say they've never seen the global version so they don't know. Any help would be much Appreciated.

    • @humbertorubi4947
      @humbertorubi4947 6 лет назад +5

      Ericinferno14 Well... I got news for you. This ranger is not new, it have been there for a while in the international market. An also it is not a Ford, it is a rebadged Mazda bt50 this is the reason the design is totally different from the rest of the Ford lineup. The only Ford thing there is the engine they are planing to offer in the US and this is the worst part you will receive. In the international market this truck have a good 4 cylinder turbo Diesel engine and a really good 5 cylinder turbo intercooled 3,2 liter engine from Mazda. Also there is no such a thing like a Raptor Ranger, don’t be fooled with this. There is a nicer off road version but is called wildtrak but have nothing to see with the raptor. Just google it. And yes!!! The truck is very good... after all is Mazda!

    • @humbertorubi4947
      @humbertorubi4947 6 лет назад

      Chris L Nope! There is no such a thing like that basically because the ranger is not a Ford is a Mazda and the trim they show in the teaser video is a Wildtrak model. They are just trying to explode the marketing with this. ruclips.net/video/rsKn1Ii2Kfc/видео.html

      You are correct.....Ford likes to lure buyers in and after a couple of model years, heavily update the same vehicle to get the buyer back in the showroom.
      Perfect example is the 1st Gen Raptor...first year was an extended cab with 5.4....maybe a 7.0 V8 to replace the current 3.5 V6 TT . This will get potential buyers back in the showroom spending money.
      Don't worry, in a year or two, a diesel or 2.7 V6 TT Raptor Ranger will be available.

      The truck market customers are wanting bigger and more technologically advanced trucks. Those mini trucks of the 80 were like tin cans. I wouldn't want my kids riding in them. The crash ratings on them are appalling. New industry rating standards are forcing manufacturers to evolve and adapt their vehicles to meet the standards.

    I don't really like it. The whole point of the ranger was to be a small and cheap truck. This one is a massive as last years F-150. I really wish that the small truck market of the 80's and 90's came back, I just think that small trucks are way nicer than these massive behemoths that are called trucks today.

    All of the auto companies have lost the plot when it comes to compact pickups. The Tacoma is the size of a damn Tundra. This Ranger looks like an F150 with equivalent cost, size, and complexity. A Raptor-esque, luxury Ranger? WTF? Compact pickups are supposed to be small, easy to fix, bare bones vehicles you can keep for years cheaply. Ecoboost has been shown to die or cost a fortune to keep alive shortly after 100,000 miles, and your average home mechanic cannot work on these things. My 2003 2.3L 5-speed standard cab Ranger is the perfect daily driving work truck. I load tools, motorcycle, skydiving, and BASE jumping gear in the bed. The dog, my cooler, and I ride in the cab. I take a fire road slowly to my destination. BASE jump. Walk my dog. Go to work. Pick up groceries. Do everything I need in this truck. When it needs maintenance I can easily afford to do it on schedule, preventively in my driveway. And, it has 136,000 miles without leaking or burning a drop of anything. Whereas my buddies Ecoboost King Ranch F150 destroyed its exhaust manifolds at 100,000 miles due to the dumbest bolt pattern I have ever seen, it was miserable to fix, and then ate its own transmission 5,000 miles later. And he’s an aircraft mechanic. No, he’s not a truck expert. But he’s experienced enough to spend the exorbitant amounts of money to do the maintenance on his truck to prevent these sorts of things from happening. Yet when he goes to the dealership to ask what happened and how to prevent it their response was, “That just happens with these trucks.”
    Why on Earth would I want a Lariat Ecoboost Ranger that I am afraid to use for damaging it, cannot afford to fix, is the size of a full-size truck, and will cost tens of thousands of dollars in repairs (not preventative maintenance) at the 100,000 mile mark?

      The Tacoma is the same size as the 1st gen Tundra was, but the Tacoma keeps increasing in size every year it seems like and a ridiculous price for 1/4 of a damn truck. I bought a 2008 Tundra because the Tacoma still seems cramped, and the 4.0L V6 offered at the time didn't get shit for fuel economy, and for $2k more I got the Tundra with the 5.7L V8 which actually got about the same fuel economy as the 4.0L V6 in the Tacoma.

    • @dougmoore6612
      @dougmoore6612 6 лет назад +6

      Excellent point, William Todd. You’re a person that wants a full-size truck. You started with a compact. Then realized the newest version is not enough truck inside with too much size and money outside. There is not enough disparity between the two to make me want the compact truck, and all the wrong differences to make you stick with the compact. For barely a pittance more, you moved up and got what you wanted. Where’s the difference between compact and full-size?

    • @gatto190
      @gatto190 6 лет назад

      Perfectly stated.

    • @Jharp82
      @Jharp82 6 лет назад +1

      Its because of CAFE. The larger a vehicle's footprint is the worse fuel economy its allowed to get. It's also why you basically have to special order a single cab full size truck. . . You can't even buy a new single cab compact truck anymore. As for the rest of your complaint, its all about money. They design vehicles to fail because doing it any other way is just bad for business.

      The EcoBoost engines sell like hotcakes. It's not so much Ford forcing them upon us as it is consumers demanding more of them. When the Ranger first debuted as a midsize in the 80s it only had 1 engine too. Give it a few years and I'd bet the Ranger will probably have a diesel option as well.

      Give it time I say. they offer a 2.2L power stroke in the Transit and global ranger soon enough we will see that engine over here. They are probably trying to engineer the engine for our strict emissions to make it 50 state legal so people don't complain about the diesel; like they seem to do with every truck that comes with a Diesel engine.

      @clarks2001 6 лет назад +1

      I think there'll be more engine options but maybe they'll just launch with the 2.3 engine. At least I hope lol. Hopefully they'll put in a modified 3.0 ecoboost (from the Continental, but "modified for truck duty) as a higher spec option and maybe a 3.5 ecoboost (detuned as to not encroach on the F150 Raptor). Wishful thinking huh? lol

    The ranger lariat coming to a dealer near you for $50k. Or close to it, how about pricing these affordably ford?! They don't care cause they know there are people out there willing to pay 70k for a f150. Don't make cars for working men anymore

    • @KB-bh9hp
      @KB-bh9hp 6 лет назад +6

      Matt Man Um you do know that a 60 or 70k f150 gets you a fully loaded raptor, aka a performance offroading beast that destroys every other truck on road and off, while also getting a reliable family car that can haul your family around as well as tow and haul things whenever you need it to, that also offers pretty great tech and rides better than a Mercedes. Any working man can get a ford truck brand new for 25k or less for a f150 and around 32 or so for a super duty. I can guarantee this Ranger will prob have a starting price in the low 20s. For a brand new truck, that's pretty damn affordable. The prices you sighted are for fords with every option box ticked , so yes, at that point they're luxury cars with luxury cars prices. Basically if you want a cheap ford, you can still buy one very easily. Before you say oh but my '86 Ranger was only 8 grand. Yes but factor in inflation and that truck would be like 16 or 17 gs, not a concrete example of inflation figures and pricing but you see what I mean. Not to mention auto makers are legally required to design, develop and build alot more standard equipment into their cars these days, that's why cars are becoming more expensive, because they're better.

    • @mikesawyer1336
      @mikesawyer1336 6 лет назад +5

      I agree. Been driving trucks my entire life and - yes 4x4s were always a little overpriced but lately nearly untouchable. The difference between willing to pay 70K and irresponsible to buy at 70K is the point. Have to think about saving for School, Home, Elderly parents, and my own retirement. There should be a truck option out there for around 25-30K that isn't stripped to the bone.

      square body, 2-door, low deck long bed rigs are not trending so I'll forced to look in the over 20 box.
      although I've always wanted to swap in the new most efficient small displacement engine into an older truck not that it would be any cheaper I guess in the short run.

      Two of the trims go up to 70k. One is the Platinum which is the upper class luxury trim comparable to the GMC Sierra Denali. The other would be a loaded SVT Raptor, which is heavily modified and geared for high performance and desert running.
      The F-series is actually the cheapest of fullsize line up.
      +Mike Sawyer That's F-150 range, it will probably be cheaper than that.

    I don't see what all the fuss is about this engine/trans combo 300+hp with 350ft-lbs give or take a few mated to a 10 speed is going to be a killer combo. Sure its a 4cyl but its all about low end TQ in a truck which this truck will have plenty of and the rest of the segment simply does not. Most of the segment has all gone to a smaller v6 with high hp a crappy low end tq. Lets not forget a mild tune these engines gives a solid gain of 25hp and 50ft-lbs making this midsize truck 325hp with 400ft-lbs! This truck will be top dog in power, towing and mpg without a doubt, every competitor will be playing catch up for the next several yrs.

      Then they said that they couldn't use the Australian Ford Falcon as the base of a Crown Vic replacement because it's too heavy. Ok I thought. Then they come out with a FWD Ford Taurus that weighs more then the Falcon did.

      Turbo 4 engines typically have more problems over a long period of time. N/a is less complicated therefore typically less likely to break or have problems. 2.3 isn’t a proven engine to most people’s eyes so they don’t want to bother gambling on a new complex platform instead of sticking to tried and true like a V6.

    Honestly I think the only major disappointment for the truck is the lack of engines. The 2.4 Ecoboost maybe a reliable engine, I just think that a V6 or a diesel might also be good candidates. Still, it took chevy a while to make a diesel themselves, so maybe we'll just have to wait. All in all though, I can definitely see myself buying one of these in the future. Hope it goes well. :)

      Jarrod Edelen ...That tiny inline four needs to be stoutly built in order to handle that kind of horsepower and torque, otherwise it is not going to last very long. Then all the money you saved on gas (and then some) will be spent on rebuilding or replacing the engine. I'd rather put more gas into something that's going to hold up for a very long time. What about a 2.7L Ecoboost option so you could have more power and torque. They need a v6 in the Ranger, it would be so quite fast. Why would you max out a 2.3L Ecoboost i4, which is found in the Focus RS, when you could put a 2.7L Ecoboost V6. Just like the last generation Ranger, there was a 2.3l i4 either in a 5 speed automatic or manual (2wd) only and a 4.0l v6 in either a 5 speed automatic or manual which was either a 2wd or 4wd. Yes there was a 3.0l v6 in a 5 speed automatic or manual but was only available in 2wd. The benefit is you now get a crewcab of some-sorts, that is a great positive. But what makes me mad is that there is no v6 option, come on it's a truck, maybe not a full-size truck but a mid-size and it needs a v6, and a i4 should be the basic engine and the 2.7l ecoboost v6 in either 2wd or 4wd as an upgrade. Finally, why push a well proven 2.3l ecoboost i4 on a truck that will probably weigh about 1.5 tons to 1.75 tons. Even if it had 300 hp it would still be quite slow because it is heavy. Put in a 2.7l ecoboost v6! This would make the best Ranger yet (no v8 is needed!) Thanks, have a good day!

    There are truck CATEGORIES, it's not everyfuckingsingle truck in the world made to have a 7.3 v8 engine with 500 Horsepower, most americans can't understand that. Ranger is such a beatiful utility that can handle everything and at the same time reach 210 kilometer per hour on highways, that means 66 kilometers per hour more than a F250 6.0 and the same to a F150 5.0.
    I call this the best cost/benefit a truck have ever had.

  • @pl747
    @pl747 6 лет назад +3

    It is going to be a Ranger that true Ranger fans are not going to want. And I can done see it is going to be so high priced it is not going to sell. It is going to cost almost as much as a F150, so why bother with it. Most Ranger fans just want a cheap basic pickup, with the option to deck it out if so desired. If they would make a basic standard cab, no frills, power and air, for just under $20,000 they could not keep them in stock. I guess I will just keep my 07 and 09 models, and when, in the near future, I decide to get another pickup, it will be a half ton Chevy.

    Only a turbo 4 with auto--no manual, no diesel and no V-6 option. Congrats Ford, you created a toy truck...if I wanted one of those, I'd get the Ridgeline. Funny, we have to wait 8 years to get what the rest of the world already has but no real engines or transmissions. Pathetic.

      Pathetic that the rest of the world had the truck since 2011--we finally get the thing and it can't be used as a truck. I've lived overseas and always liked the diesel small to medium trucks/vans for moving things. Giant trucks absolutely suck in most parts of the world when hauling smaller loads so things like Fiat Ducato or Toyota diesels squeezed through small spaces and got the job done. Ever try to squeeze a giant truck through small towns in S. Italy? You can't! Jeep is supposed to be coming out with a real pickup truck in a smaller size with a diesel--maybe. Screw it, Tesla will roll out something far superior to the Ranger toy truck so I'll pass on this one as Ford never really cared about US small trucks anyway. Write off the brand.

      I’m sad to say it, but a lot of the design decisions Ford has been making lately is forcing me to look at other brands.
      All this aluminum in their trucks, this insanity with all the dinky turbo engines that are going to destroy them financially when the warranty claim come piling in. They’re turning into euro trash.
      Chevy is offering an in-line 6 baby-max engine in the new Silverado that has the potential to get north of 30mpg.

    I'm going to withhold final judgement until we see actual specs side-by-side comparisons with the competition, but I have to say I am SORELY disappointed to not see this come to the US with a diesel option. When I first saw these "new" Rangers in Australia and Asia I was fascinated and even MORE fascinated after talking to an Aussie in a pub in Sydney about his. Those Aussie's take their 4x4's seriously and he raved about the off-road performance and the comfortable ride and handling of the truck. I'll also say this: I've been IMPRESSED AS HELL by the 3.5 EB in my 2015 F-150 - the thing gets 20+ MPG loaded up with people and gear on road trips and really gets off the line QUICK when you put it in Sport mode and romp the pedal. Turbo lag is very minimal, and torque comes on pretty low in the RPM band, unlike a lot of previous turbo's I've owned. We'll see.... Hopefully the FX4 package is a "real" offroad package and not the gimmick it is on the F150 - Real skid plates, real lift, real tires (BFG KO's), AND LOCKERS!! The Colorado ZR2 has a diesel option, great ride/handling AND front and rear lockers....

I get its Turbo charged and that the F-150's have the small displacement Ecoboost's, however I feel they are making a BIG mistake as well as not offering a Long Bed Crew Cab option. I'd say 60% of the Tacoma's in my area are Long Bed Double Cabs and I'm seeing the same thing with the GM twins.

They should copy fit and finish instead of using cheap plastic materials and beer cans to build trucks.Ford has no direction .. they follow whoever sells the most trucks in each segment.

Im not fond of the styling but tacomas are very capable trucks even though thirsty they still outsell every truck out there. Obviously people would rather give up precious gas mileage for reliability 👀🤷🏻‍♂️. Ford offers 10 dif engines for the f150 and they all suck. Make one good one and be done with it. Every year just improve and build on that. One 4 cyl one 6cyl ecoboost. Makes no sense to me.

      4WD is not what I want. I live in Ohio today, and I have a 2WD truck. 4WD is a waste of money and fuel. My 2006 silverado is 2WD, 8ft bed, standard cab, manual transmission, 4.3L V6. I found it 2 years ago and have put $8k into it to have is mechanical sound. But, I will never be able to find this same configuration in a new truck. Because men have become lazy and women won't let me buy non-4 door trucks.

    like a lot of others on here, I was hoping for the 2.7l ecoboost. I have one in my f150 with 50k on it right now, and couldn't be happier. as for reliability, I'm more worried about the transmission than I would ever be worried about the motor.
