  • In this analysis video, Tyler Ferrell compares Sergio Garcia’s swing style to Ben Hogan. A common comparison because of the narrowing movement in transition, but as you’ll see in this video, a poor comparison when analyzing their pivot actions.

    That was a professional overview. One of the few really good ones I have seen on you tube. Nice job!

    Some good observations of Sergio's swing as far as his chest pointing back in the downswing and the rotation of the upper torso of Sergio and Jason. I'm not a fan of lines and angles drawn on 2 dimensional video to make a point about lag etc. The swing is a dynamic motion that can be misleading due to camera angles, individual golfer movements and which club they are using. Sergio allows his arms to DROP in the downswing and the club starts falling behind him more than Jason.

    1:54 I don't think it is optical illusion, I think you are compering two different positions. Look at the head of the driver in both pictures, on the left one is still behind the left shoulder and in the right picture, already passed the right shoulder, that is why the angle is so different. Just my personal opinion. Still great analysis, good job. Thanks.

    I love your analysis on Sergio, trying to copy his swing , not so severe

    Sergio has no back problems jason does. Sergio shallows his hands on the downswing and steepens the club to offset the force

    I’ll take Sergio’s swing all day and twice on Sunday. No back issues and he still bombs it. That DS arm action after his laid off BS is is right out of Sasho McKenzie’s research
    Add the tumble move at P5 and you be rockin!

    i disagree with the notion that the's pulling the club down. I believe he lets the club drop from the top, and doesn't regain connectedness relative to his arms and upper body until late in the downswing, since he doesn't begin to turn his shoulders until relatively late in the downswing.

      And you are?

    • @norrispg
      @norrispg 6 лет назад

      even Sergio says he is pulling the club down, as he says "like pulling a chain to begin the downswing"

    • @johnfaieta7665
      @johnfaieta7665 6 лет назад

      Totally agree. He isn’t pulling. If he was pulling he would get narrow. That lag is deceiving because he has shallowed the club and from face on the angle looks crazy. If anything he’s pushing out not pulling

    • @norrispg
      @norrispg 6 лет назад

      doesn't mean the pulling is rotational from his left shoulder or body -- that would make it narrow...again, even Sergio said he was pulling...he's pulling downward...what you're seeing is stored movement pattern resulting from swings when he first started being with a club that was long and heavy enough that it fell first before he he pulled and because his left arm is on a diagonal and the mobility of the left wrist is somewhat limited in that direction the head of the club falls backward...the face on view observing the diagonal left arm and the club head falling away creates the acute illusion

    • @armike234

      He swallows his hands and Steepens the club

  • @cliftonmanley3882
    @cliftonmanley3882 7 лет назад

    he pulls flat under pressure, same as Hogan. It's because they both hold the club in the fingers.

    These superstars really "own" their unique swings.

  • @ShallowedOutGolf

    He’s shallow because he pulls his upper right arm in but adds width at the same time.

  • @joarby
    @joarby 2 года назад

    Ok, if u are going to make an analysis then u need to first understand. The reason why u are seeing a tremendous amount of lag on Sergio is that his shaft is very shallow. He is able to drop his hands from the top of his swing with the shaft going horizontally almost passing his shoulders before releasing. It’s that simple.

  • @joekoski4074
    @joekoski4074 6 лет назад

    This is why he hasn't won consistently. Hogan was way more in sync.

    • @scottsanders2641

      Joe Koski Hogan was a much better putter and didn’t have to compete against Tiger..

  • @Balataone
    @Balataone 7 лет назад +1

    You need to study swing mechanics a little more... Sergio is a downstroke (float) loading, elbow plane, hitter. There's no "optical illusion".

    • @gmonkey6523
      @gmonkey6523 6 лет назад

      He is correct in the sense that if you rotate the forearms then the angle between the shaft and arm will look more acute to the eye. Regardless of any mechanics this is just perspective. I think thats the point he makes.

    • @norrispg
      @norrispg 6 лет назад

      the optical illusion is that the club is dropping down because, from the face on view, the left arm is tilted back and the club is turning left, or away from the left arm which, because both are angled away from the viewer makes it appear to be dropping downward

      Balataone Moomba And you need to learn to analyse 3d motion in 2d

    • @scottsanders2641
      @scottsanders2641 5 лет назад

      Golf Truth Yes, you are right! Just like Hogan said he wished he had 3 right hands, once Sergio gets to P6 its all right hand, arm and shoulder with no fear of going left...

  • @samsmum
    @samsmum 7 лет назад

    It's a visually terrible golf swing!! But somehow he manages to catch his club face up with the ball at impact. I can see how this could easily go very wrong though....

    • @norrispg
      @norrispg 6 лет назад

      then you don't understand angular momentum because it is that force that is working with him and allowing him to easily time this action
