  • In this analysis video, Tyler Ferrell breaks down three keys to Dustin Johnson’s tremendous driving ability. By comparing Dustin’s body driven swing to John Senden (an arm driven swing) you’ll be able to visualize the requirements to making a body powered golf swing.

The forward bend or left shoulder drop to start the transition I think is key and not enough people talk about how the spine bind is key to transition. Too many people talk about the hip bump and don't talk enough about the upper body initiating transition.

The Reverse C, at least at impact, is making a big comeback. Fleetwood, Champ & Chuckie 3Stix all toting a lower body swing, bent right arm & still bent left leg at impact. Oddly, the knuckleheads on TV apparently think that arm swingers can be more consistent despite, as you noted, “an unstable clubface at impact”.

Great video. I tend to be more body driven but I'm lacking the face-closing maneuvers that DJ has so I overfade it still. I'll compare both.

Dustins head flexes forward and gives the impression his body drops. Put a dot on the logo on the back of his shirt and you'll see its in the same position at address and at impact. Its just rotated. Also put a dot on the back of his belt and you'll see the same thing. Again its just rotation. Hitting through the ball he does raise his body with the upward motion of the club.

    Really, really great analysis.
Another #dumb thing they say on TV is “Look, his arms are in front of him, a more MODERN swing. You can’t get your arms stuck behind you, it causes reverse C and all these back problems.”
Well, most of these arm swingers end up POSTING up and hitting hard against their left side AND knee. The best ball strikers ever were body driven swingers.

Sendens always been near the top of the ballstriking stats throughout his long career. And a younger senden would hit as far as anyone
