OMG FINALLY I FOUND SOMEONE THEORIZING/TALKING ABOUT THIS GAME! Absolutely no one took the time to pay attention or look for the lore hidden within it. Thank you💜
I couldn’t help myself once I saw that “first run” achievement 😅 I had to see why they wanted us to play a second time and the significance of doing it. It was a lot of fun researching this one for sure!
@@MoFace By the way thanks for the video it was really interesting. I watched it with my non English speaking friend and it was really easy for translate, thanks for that too
Your theory is much deeper than the body swap ritual one that others have discussed 😮. It’s awesome how you used outside resources and did some research on things like animitas!
I kind of saw this as an extreme maladaptive daydreaming episode. As someone with the disorder, I typically have a grasp on reality, but have a very detailed story playing in my head. The story is definitely reminiscent of maladaptive daydreaming episodes. I'm not a medical professional, I'm just going off of my own personal experiences. Sometimes the daydreams get more vivid when I'm stressed out, and I don't notice immediate things in my environment.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and perspective! I really want to research maladaptive daydreaming now; I’m curious if there are any games that might feature it too 💜
@@MoFace hm, there might be something like that in a game simply titled "the park" i probably shouldnt give details about it both cause my explanation would have huge spoilers and it might be too grathic to talk about in a comment by today's standards...
@@MoFace alright, cool for you. and not sure if you caught it, but i tried to also show you a l 1nk to an audio v1d ee oh about a pokemon creepypasta that might have that concept, or something like it. guess adding spaces isnt enough anymore. *sighs* so i'll just say its called "Pokemon Fuchsia" by Christopher Maxim | CreepyPasta Storytime
one thing I think is interesting is that the name Umi, in Japanese, means ocean, and in the beginning of the game, she says she can't hear the ocean plus, R's towel was left on rocks by the ocean (I think?? I can't remember if it was the ocean or a lake or something) I'd usually deflect and say something like "idk that's just me" but I do think I may be onto something
I think you’re absolutely onto something 💜 I didn’t show the images from the zine in the video, but the house is pretty close to an ocean according to the map, and weird occurrences are marked nearby the house (possibly in the rocky area). Umi’s name could be a nod to the first death of the shadow rabbit near the ocean maybe? 🤔
@@MegaMegajennifer I believe the developer left the towel behind, who was Chilean (if we go off of the zine lore of the dev team and the map provided there).
Aw thank you! I don't have too many cozy horror videos out to date (most of my older stuff is va work for cartoon projects I did), but I'm working on adding more every week!
Oh im super looking forward to it! Also just wanted to say that I really liked the editing in this video too! It felt so smooth and added to your narration quite nicely.
This analysis is so good👏🏾 my theory was ok but I definitely didn’t get to this point of the rental man being a m*rderer. I theorize 2 things. Either the dev became the new rental guy (a new trapped soul) for not completing the game with his team or that he did a body swap ritual on Umi. I kept thinking the reason the rental guy couldn’t leave because as he said “they” finished the game and not “we” as they were instructed to do so to be able to leave. But was completely wrong 😭
Thank you so much! That’s the great thing about theories though! You could be right and I could be wrong 🙂 it’s just fun trying to put all the pieces together 💜
@@MoFace exactly 💜 I love doing theories and hearing others as well. Again thank you for making this. It’s nice to see people find the lore in games like this that’s secretly packed with it.
My theory was the rental man was the game developer from the DLC and we freed him at the end but the second run through might throw a wrench in that PS: thank you for mentioning Ojamajo Doremi underrated anime😊
I’m real glad you laser focused on how disrespectfully umi treated those religious items. Most kids are taught to respect other people’s religious beliefs, even if they’re different from the parents views, so the way she acted was quite odd.
At first, I considered it an age thing, that perhaps she was just too young, but the continual mention of the artifacts in a negative/careless way felt like a pattern that the devs wanted us to pay attention to. It's suggested in the zine that the developers at least interacted with these same objects, specifically lighting a candle that never goes out, the wax never consumed.
I have been wanting to watch this video since I started working on my deep dive 😭 Your vibe is so relaxing! I'm glad you came to a lot of similar conclusions, glad you also got the zine :D Also your sound design is so good! Really made for an immersive telling. I didnt catch the hiding in the cabinet part :0 Also thought it was kinda sad that Umi is pretty rude to her loved ones and maybe the other developer wasnt too kind to his friends/ team and now has to perpetually relive being this way to them forever... Great video :DD
What a great and insightful video thank you! Didn’t know such a short lil game was able to be packed with such interesting and deep lore, you’re very underrated and deserve so much more recognition!!
i just realized that umi's face starts to look like the rental man's in the endings. it could be a coincidence, but i kinda think maybe the results of the ritual includes having the rental guy's spirit inhabit her body
this my first time stumbling on one of your videos i must say this really got me hooked into the game's lore ^_^ also i love ur tone !! really fits the horror vibes

The calm voice makes it scarier for some reason
Your nightmares may not be the coziest then I'm afraid

The thing about the rabbit plushie is because that animita is for a kid/child who dies so they put their toys or things like plushies.
