The NEW HDZero Eco Whoop: Cam Comparison and BNF Review
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 22 июл 2024
- This is a review of the new HDZero Eco VTX and Camera as well as the Happymodel BNF that will debut the new combo. This is the first HDZero FPV system that does not use a mipi cable to connect the camera to the VTX. This allows the Eco system to save both weight and cost which makes it ideal for Tiny Whoops.
When I first recieved this prototype whoop the cam was locked at 16:9 and had a very narrow vertical FOV that was not suitable for whoops IMO. I expressed this concern to Carl and he got Runcam to use a different housing and lens that is much more in line with what most whoop pilots prefer. I am so excitied for the future of HDZero and whoops because they are constantly innovating while still looking to the community for guidance on what is needed most. Look for more exciting innovations from HDZero in the near future!

Love your review bro! thanks so much! This model comes in the new mobula6 2024 frame, which lowers the weight by around a half a gram :)
I’ll have the production version in a few days and I’ll add an addendum video. What I saw in other videos was the weight was still about 23g but we shall see.
Awesome job Dan and HDZero! Happy Whooping!
Superb review. All the info you could possibly want. More should be like this!
Thanks! I forgot some things like the cam menu and options but I’ll be adding an addendum video once I get the production version.
Spend 2 days looking for a way to change eco aspect ratio till this video haha thank you for saving me more time searching for a feature that’s not included on that cam haha
Thanks Dan I was really impressed the speed and camera quality are great! Love my HDZero!
Do you see what I was trying to explain about the 16:9 crop FOV with my comparisons? The 16:9 crop cuts the FOV so much!
So glad to be rid of the mipi that's the thing I replace the most😂 great work!!!
great review! can’t wait to get my hands on one!
The BNF should be avaiable any day now!
Very detailed video - nice job! I'm surprised how close you got to your analog race whoop time withe eco cam. The low light LED gates looked really nice with the ECO also
Yeah, it did really well with the LEDs. Great for racing!
This was good!
I have four Whoop Lite and now three ECO. The ECO has an easily noticeable poorer image than the Whoop Lite as supplied, and flying between the two types back to back its almost like comparing analogue with HDZ. Yes, nice to get rid of the MiPi risk I guess, but my original analogue Mob6's are actually preferable to the Mob6 2024 ECO, mainly due the shorter flight times when the HD VTX and camera load is there. So, IMO for 65's analogue is still the way to go, even folded 320 cells struggle to get much over 2 mins. However, I have transferred a Whoop Lite Mob 6 electronics into a 75 Meteor frame, and that happily flies a 530mAh for a much more decent flight time without being down on grunt (running two blade props). SO, not sold on the ECO in a 65, can only hope for better results after tuning. Incidentally they still had not put the firmware on the website last time I looked, which I think is bad form. If you go production on something, it should from day one be supported, not as if its hard to do that!
2G weight savings is nice. I just need to see how the video quality compares to like ant or c03 if i really want but damn 2g lighter is so tempting.
I have a 1s & 2s 75mm hdzero whoops
Where can I find that brace? 😍. Nice solid review n rundown on the whole whoop too. And sweet ripping as usual
It’s a 3D print that a local Pilot name “Rog1” created. my buddy Launie aka PickleRick printed it for me.
love it
Best review to-date!
Wouldn’t the 5 additional grams warrant moving to a 75mm frame?
Yes!
Whoop whoop 🙌🙌
Great video. What was the carbon fiber brace?
I don't like how much darker it is. I'll have to try it myself first but from your video it kinda just looks like really good analog now. If that's the case it's not worth the extra weight imo. At least not for high level racing. Other than being cheaper I'm struggling to find a place for this camera 😔
2g is a lot for whoops! Certainly makes a 65mm racer more viable. But there are more innovations coming 😉 I will try to mess with the in cam settings when I get the production version and see if I can make the image brighter. I didn’t change any setting just flew it stock.
@@FPVSkittles I missed that it was 2g weight savings. (Watched with subtitles on at work) that definitely makes a difference. I probably still wouldn't race it in open class at big events but for our weekly races I'd use it
Interesting. Maybe RUclips/DVR doesn't do it justice, but it was hard to really tell the difference between the eco and the pinch, beyond the OSD and type of sparkle/static. Image seemed about the same. Don't think I heard what kind of resolution/fps its claiming to be capable of? Feel like its maybe 540/60?
I don’t know the resolution spec but the eco looks much better than the pinch to me in the goggles. Though it is certainly not as good of an image as the whoop lite or the nano v3
I think the main selling point of the eco is really the weight saving. I hope I could get my hands on this soon
I would say it’s the reduced pricing but both are advantages. And HDzero is gonna keep making better stuff 😉
@@FPVSkittles need to put my old mobula 6 to rest hehehehe
you flying the aio yet? I put mine on a diet and she's currently 18.8g
Great video, dude! I'm actually considering hdzero now. Can I ask where you picked up that carbon brace? I've been looking for one for a while. Thanks. 🙏
It’s 3D printed by my buddy Launie aka PickleRick. It was designed by another local Pilot “Rog1”
@@FPVSkittles oh that's pretty cool! You guys should offer that up on the shop!!
I've tried the carbon brace for the Cockroach v3, and it really does significantly increase the tracking, I just don't love the extra weight on 702's..🫤
@@FPVSkittlesstl link?? Thanks:)
@@torquewhoop9201 IDK if he has made it public unfortunately. ill ask
@@FPVSkittles insta name for asking to IDK?
For the price of a good Analog camera and VTX?
I haven't finished the video yet but is that a sub carbon whoop frame? Sick
Its a 3D printed support on the base. Carbon fiber PLA
I like the new options but why did they discontinue the whoop lite cam that was only .2g heavyer with a pretty good quality?
The whoop lite cam doesnt really have a niche anymore. Most any build that would have used it before would be better off with the NanoV3 which is only 0.5g heavier and has a much better image and now if you want to go light weight then go for the Eco. There will still be plenty of the whoop lite cams out there you can probably swoop up for cheap now.
@@FPVSkittlesI still need to try the nano v3 for myself
Is there anything new on the vtx side ? Still limited to 200mw and prone to overheating the same way ?
Yeah it’s a new vtx but it’s very similar to the whoop lite. Same shape and size just different pads for the wires and no mipi connection. Mostly the same stats and still gets hot pretty quick.
Oh and the 0.2g extra doesn’t account for the mipi. Total the eco cam and vtx are 2g lighter than the whoop lite cam and vtx
No MIPI!?!! YES!!!
Is HDzero / runcam going to offer both mipi / eco for their cameras? Or possibly phasing out the mipi? Or maybe BOTH connections on camera.. for comparability?
No they are different types of cameras- I don’t believe any could do both options. The eco vtx does not have a place to connect a mipi cable.
I'm wondering what is the take on latency without the mipi cable.
Like all the other HDzero systems it basically zero latency and it’s fixed.
Would one be be able to solder on a nano v3 and swap out the new eco cam for hdzero?. Im fairly new to this but figured id ask
No the runcam nano v3 uses a mipi cable so it will connect to any of the other HDZero vtxs. This Eco vtx and Cam are new and will not be directly compatible with the Mipi cams and vtxs.
@@FPVSkittles ohh got ya!. So would any other CAM work with these new eco generations?. Say something better than the eco cam that one could solder on?. I know hdzero can only work with hdzero compatible gear but figured id ask. Do you recommend any other cameras for hdz. Cheers
I have the eco and i'm disapointed by the eco image (mainly outside). No sharpness, no focus, bad contrast. Wish there would be an upgrade for the eco camera soon.
I think I missed this(?) - Does this new eco vtx do 90fps?
No, it does 60FPS
Focal point on the camera length?
Im not sure
can you get the vtx by it self? i cant find it on the hdzero shop
I think if they sell stand alone it will be the bundle vtx and cam combo. I am not 100% sure it will be available as a stand alone product.
Nano V3 looks best imo.
Yep - I agree. In the conclusions I say the nano v3 is the best option for pretty much anything besides 65mm or other super light weight builds.
What does eco mean exactly?
Economy I believe - because it’s less expensive
Nano V3 for the overall win?
Yep - its my favorite
I was like that's too heavy for me I would...
Then ypu literally starting saying all the things I was thinking you could do to loose the weight.
Anyways my take on this.... freaking exciting times brah.
I can remember when these companies didn't pay us any mind.
Nowdays...we have arrived.
Haha yeah - I’m not a huge weight savings guy. I prefer durability over light weight personally. I think getting this down to about 20g would be about as far as you can go. More new stuff coming from HDzero though, maybe that will help save more weight 😉
dang! hd under 23grams is a big deal!
What? Mines at 21.7g without doing anything special
on HD?@@ShinFPV
@@h8er137 yea, hdzero
The main question is how much lighter and how much less expensive the HDZ Eco compared to the HDZ Whoop Lite?
.
If it close to the analog vtx with TW Pinch cam then it might worth.
Is regular analog cam exists on the market are compatible with HDZ Eco ?
.
This new Mob6 need new HM Superbee Lite FC without the MAX7456 osd chip for weight saving sake.
The SuperX HD is more suitable for >= 75mm coz it's support 2s 12A and -1.24gr lighter than BetaFPV F405 HD V3.
Came on HappyModel ... 1-2s 12A AIO FC is not for 65mm whoop, please produce Superbee Lite HD without the MAX7456
No analog cams would work with the Eco I do not believe, it's a cam made specifically for the Eco. I dont know exact details but I think about 35% less expensive and 2g lighter than the original whoop lite bundle.
@@FPVSkittles Thanks for the info Dan!
Seems not worth it yet to consider at the moment coz I'm still fine with whoop lite, but might be an alternative which can make my wallet a bit happy 😂
Always respect and happy to see HDZ new invention and how they work together with with whoop manufactures. Let's see how it goes.
@@gonebdgyeah I agree. Not quite enough to upgrade if you already have the whoop lite but if you are just getting in to HDzero for whoops then it’s the way to go right now. That said more awesome innovations are still in the works 😉
It was dark when flew the eco. Can't judge the iq :(
It was just minutes after the other two cams and it was before the pinch.
@@FPVSkittles really? It sucks that much?
