The Completionist, Jirard, I was hearing you complain about how empty the online was for this game and an idea dawned on me. Why not put out an apb for online games you're playing? I think setting up scheduled public play times is a win win win. I don't know what your schedule is like, nor do I know if you've tried this before and it flopped, but I hope you at least appreciate the suggestion. Anyway, have a good one, keep up the great work and Alex is innocent. Lol
Yeah. Multiplayer should not have achievements. Edit: Because sooner or later the multiplayer will be dead and then you'll have no chance of unlocking them.
That's a multiplayer focused game. Obviously, if they even wanted achievements before MvM, they were going to inherently be multiplayer. The only games exempt from this rule should be multiplayer focused games such as TF2, Overwatch, etc.
But then we get into the problem of achievements that are locked behind limited time modes, either ones that repeat, or are never able to be achieved again.
I hate trophies and achievements linked to multiplayer, that's why I will never even try to Platinum The Last Of Us and Tombs Raider DE, the multiplayer trophyes, I HATE THEM!
If you don't get multiplayer achievements within the year or two minimum that games run servers... Well that's your own damn problem and you can't blame the game for your laziness..
I hope that I never see a comment giving Jirard a hard time about Multiplayer troph/chievements in any game because in by the time that some games get played by people this is exactly the case. I LOVE this! Just the first 5 minutes are perfect, and I'm glad you enjoyed the game! It got me back into the series; it def made the series really important to me.
And I must disagree that there was no character development: lara at first is very against "supernatural" ideas, and is very focused on reality. By the end, she's very open to it, and believes that there's more to history than just what's written.
TheVideoGameManiac Meh, got ya beat... I got every Tomb Raider ever made for £11.99 (about $15) during a steam sale, a couple months before the reboot sequel came out. It included this game too. Can't beat steam for their sales.
I completed this game 4x across the PS3/PS4/Xbox one It's one of my favorite games of all time...it's up there with RE2 & DK Country I still remember vividly headshotting the majority of the enemies during my 3rd run in the hard mode & completing it in 2 hours with no save or dying
Mr. Completionist! We love you and your content very much! But can we please call the multiplayer content a different game yet? I'm straining my brain trying to remember if you've ever actually enjoyed a single player story game's multiplayer trophies even once yet. Other than that though, thank you (and the entire Beard Bros crew) for all of your work! You brighten up my day on an extremely regular basis! :D
This was definitely one of the games I bought a PS4 for. One of the best games I’ve ever played, personally. I honestly consider it to be on of my favorite games
You’ve gotta be mental if you think you don’t need ID and a thorough background check to buy an AR-15. If you want to buy ANY gun you have to have ID and a background check...
I beat this entire game on Hard with just the bow and the pike. It was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done as a gamer. The guns make the game easy.
Ehh, I have mixed feelings about it. I don't know how to feel about them making her a Katniss Everdeen rip off (WHY MUST IT ALWAYS BE A BOW AND ARROW?!?), The story was bad, the game itself was so easy I completed it on hard difficulty with maybe 5-6 deaths, leveling up is super easy, they literally tell you where to go, and there's hardly any puzzles to work through. And there's only 1 or 2 required tombs in a game called Tomb Raider. However I did like the combat, the graphics were absolutely stunning, and the upgrades (as easy to obtain as they were) were still kinda fun to get and use. I haven't played the sequel yet but I do plan on it.
i never played ps1 or ps2 era tomb raider games. i started here too. and let me tell you ive played this rebooted trilogy FIVE TIMES this year. its that good!
I know jirard hates games that have multiplayer achievements but I find that they are the most entertaining episodes. The gears one is a favorite of mine.
I get this but only to a point. Hearing him bitch game after game (not literally) gets hella annoying. Like people get that old games' MP is dead and it's hard to do them, but who really actually cares? I'm I'm completionist myself but I don't bother with MP trophies after getting a bunch of failed matchmaking for a game that's been out a while. This and Spec Ops are two big examples for me.
Link2434 character development was pretty bad in rise too. Not,once through either games was there a memorable character. somebody you realy care about.
Besides Ms.Pacman, Lara Croft May be one of the most recognizable female video game characters of all time? Someone must have forgotten Zelda, Princess Peach and Samus.
Please stop doing multiplayer achievements, they are not enjoyable and they just slow down your videos. I do admire your spirit, I just don’t want to see it brake.
the brutal kills where always in the original games, lara could die from the most hillarious to downright horrifying ways to die you have ever saw till those games, i clearly remember in Tomb Raider 3 everytime i fell off from some high ledge you hear lara screaming for her dearest life and then a loud dry thud of her hitting the ground and silence, man you can even hear her bones crushing from the impact dude, that alone give me nightmares, that and the tigers that often surprises you out of the blue of course. I really like this remake and the way it makes everything so cinematic and horrifyingly brutal but what i miss more its the cheezyness and over the top situations the older games had, for christ sake man you fought a freaking T-REX in the first one, *A MOTHERFUCKING T-REX* with only your guns and your acrobatic skills *THAT'S IT*, later on you fought demons, gods, and other sort of strange things, heck even Raziel and Kain had a cameo in Tomb Raider the Guardian of Light, its not the best game i know but come on! Raziel and Kain man! those two are a good reason to tolerate any kind of bullcrap....to an extent of course.
Don't you just love the way his beard keeps gradually creeping upwards towards his eyes, eventually covering his whole face and making him a wolfman? Just teasing bro. Love your channel :D
It's too bad they had so lame controls. I think the first games were best on the story telling and atmosphere side. Players new to the franchise should start with Tomb Raider Legend or Anniversary though.
the controls were hot garbage, i remember playing the PS1 demo discs you'd get in the mail when subbed to game magazines as a kid. i was completely turn-off from the franchise entirely from these god awful controls, i never played a tomb raider game since. obviously that isn't the case anymore since their PS2/GC games onward but still it was just that bad
I love the reboot. They are really fun imo. I miss the puzzle solving of the originals but I like this too. I'm looking forward to the new one in September
You totally contradicted your Completion rating by saying... Stick to the Story, Get the Platinum... YOU CANT EARN THE PLATINUM WITHOUT DOING THE MULTIPLAYER!!! smh...
Love this version of Tomb Raider. Never played much of the older ones either but this one is definitely fun and addicting. And I'm glad it's not just me but when the multiplayer is "outdated" it shouldn't be required for completing the game.
I adore this game so much. I was actually surprised to hear about the film. Totally didn't expect it but I'm happy they've taken cues from this gen's Lara and I love the touch of including her pick axe. I actually enjoy this more recent incarnation of Lara, being old enough to remember the original games. She's just much more compelling to me now and I really need to get the next game. Nice one, Crystal Dynamics!
Honestly, from an original fan who played Tomb Raider Revelations which gives you a tutorial with young Lara I prefer than one to this one. She was with a mentor raiding a tomb and her mentor died at the end of the tutorial and the witty and mildly flirty banter the two had was more often than not hilarious to hear. Also, isn't old TR to do with fighting mummies and supernatural creatures she brought to life by fucking with things she shouldn't? Why add other humans into this? Also, where's the actual raiding of tombs, yknow the name? Granted the old games are ugly as hell but, much like with movies, better graphics don't always equal a better story/characters.
There are plenty of tombs to explore in this game, have you even played it? And games have to evolve, they can't just use the same exact story they used in Revelations. I happen to like this new retelling 🙄
Chris M And I'm glad that you like it but to me the tombs just feel like they are side areas that felt almost tacked on in a way and weren't a focus point, I have played it but I don't own in since I played it when I went to my friends. We're both old TR fans so, not gonna lie, that definitely affected my feelings on this, if his wasn't a TR game I'd like it MUCH more since it isn't a bad game but did it NEED to be a Tomb Raider game? It feels almost name only or if it did NEED to be a TR game then maybe if the main character wasn't Lara Croft I'd probably like it much more as well. But that's a complete 'what if' and not what we got
The brutal deaths in this game are a reference to the OG Tomb Raiders having really bone-cracking and gnarly ragdoll deaths when you would miss jumps and such.
(( Not a simple topic thus not a simple reply-comment; long post ahead with lots of insight(s). )) I personally wish that they would have simply continued remake-mastering the old-"Tomb Raider"-series; "Tomb Raider - Anniversary" was a really good entry (I've not gotten "that far", but I'll get there eventually). --- To me it's not the gore, but how ridiculous it is. Or rather more the "artificiality" to make Lara "frail". Like yes, naturally-sharp-driftwood and such are a real thing. But in this game everything is "architectured" to kill Lara; pretty much nothing is natural. Compare this to "Heart of Darkness", the game pretty much no one knew about when "Limbo" was dropped and they went "e-gads, horrid death this rag-doll-physics-boy encounters"; I was obviously rolling me eyes while re-watching death-montage of Andy getting killed-off by, well, pretty much anything (well kinda not, but the ways of "becoming nothing" simply rivals the "many death of Roger Wilco"). --- I guess my point is: you don't need "gore" to make death look dirty. (Yes, I did the etymological pun on purpose). I give much more credit to actually creative and otherwise more, well, "fun"-deaths. This is where many of the "Full Motion Video" and loads "Adventure"-games have excelled for the most part (the afore-hinted "Space Quest"-series being one of them). "Dirty-deaths" only makes you grossed out, somewhat, and for the most part only once (due the added initial "shock-value"). For the most part they are just there to weaken, debilitate, enfeeble, enervate,to deteriorate, to dilute,to undermine, hinder; all and any other fitting words that just only makes you annoyed and frustrated. And certainly not in more encouraging way. Not to also mention that coincidentally enough that these death in this category tend to be very cheap-deaths also (both due "artificial-difficulty"-things and, well, "lazy"). --- "Fun-deaths" however how can actually make you guilty of getting your player-model(s) killed-off, without making the player-model any less weaker; you for the most part don't question the death here. Even when you have a physically strong character (E.G. "Dexter/Ace" from "Space Ace"; he had muscles and strength, but that didn't make him a "Super Man" though). "Jurassic Park" by Telltale Games while is "just-another-Quick-Time-Event"-game simply got a "10/10" from me for making creative "fun-deaths" and putting some real actual effort into them. --- --- (( On the comment about "tank-controls", I say they best work in games that don't require "platforming"; when done correctly they give nicely-tight and consistent control over the player-character(s). And depending on games, they can also keep the characters much more "ground-footed" ("feet on the ground", as in more realistic; "Aya Brea" for example was for the most part just your everyday police(-girl) officer (and yes, in my-canon "The 3rd Birthday" does not exist, just like "Alien 3" doesn't)) )) --- --- ---
Honestly this reboot wasn't that great, compared to the Tomb Raider Anniversary remake for instance, or all the first games in the series actually. Here there is almost no proper puzzle, but a lot of QTE's and running sections instead. The story is a bad disaster film plot with too many characters, sure the stories in the old games were less developed but still more intriguing. How many times does Lara get captured in this one? o_* The whole game is just that, being captured and escaping. The only better parts are the combat system, and the graphics, although even they are repetitive compared to the old ones with tons of different colour schemes... :/
Sorry but I still feel like this did to the Tomb Raider franchise what Other M did to Metroid. They made Lara overly emotional and hate her job. If anything her character took a step back from the snarky shit talking Indiana Jones on steroids she used to be
At least here it's a reboot and it's her first gig where she is young and not yet as experienced so it makes sense that she is overwhelmed. Other M is not a reboot and takes place in the middle of Samus's arc and completely disregards anything that happens before or after.
ConfirmedRandom Erm, the beginning of Tomb Raider 4 has her as young Lara Croft so no, this isn't her first time as a young Lara. Maybe the first game fully centred around it but TR4 has a good half hour segment to her being a young tomb raider who's in he middle of raiding a tomb with a mentor there who's also raiding the tomb.
AshesSakura well then they should have at least kept the mentor to give her someone to learn from instead of ‘man being rich is boring I’ll go break into the houses of dead people and get even richer’. This version of her seems a little selfish and whiny.
What other combinations can you think of that are beautifully dirty?

I LOVE this! Just the first 5 minutes are perfect, and I'm glad you enjoyed the game! It got me back into the series; it def made the series really important to me.
And I must disagree that there was no character development: lara at first is very against "supernatural" ideas, and is very focused on reality. By the end, she's very open to it, and believes that there's more to history than just what's written.
I got tomb raider from a steam sale.. and today you made a video about it...what a coincidence....
Ironic?
I think you mean "what a coincidence"
TheKiroshi ok I changed it
Same.
EVERY SINGLE TOMB RAIDER GAME ON PC, for about $47.
TheVideoGameManiac Meh, got ya beat... I got every Tomb Raider ever made for £11.99 (about $15) during a steam sale, a couple months before the reboot sequel came out. It included this game too. Can't beat steam for their sales.
I completed this game 4x across the PS3/PS4/Xbox one
It's one of my favorite games of all time...it's up there with RE2 & DK Country
I still remember vividly headshotting the majority of the enemies during my 3rd run in the hard mode & completing it in 2 hours with no save or dying
"I was eight. What the _hell_ was I supposed to do with that?"
Fucking slayed me with its hilarious truth, lmao.
I like how most of the music was Uncharted music. XD
Just like Uncharted was inspired by the original tomb raider. Makes sense.
gozinta82 tomb raider was inspired by Indiana Jones
Jonathan Soko true
Dollar Shave Club: Let's support the one RUclipsr who's whole brand is based around NOT SHAVING. Genius. :)
Stop doing Multiplayer as a completion criteria. No one likes it. It's a downer. Boring and insane. Not worth your time. Nor ours.
I've played through this game 4x on PS3/4 and Xbox 360/one. It's one of my favorite games ever made.
Play the PS2 Ratchet and Clanks. They're the best and you'll love them. They're very easy to "complete" too.
You inspire me to push myself further in the games I play.
But I will never be pushed far enough to take up something like multiplayer trophies.
Can you please play a Jurassic Park game for Jurassic Parks 25th anniversary
May I suggest Trespasser or the telltale game
Bryce Mckenzie I WOULD SCREAM IF HE DID TRESPASSER. (Am I the only one who likes it?)
Scrumber Ducker
I love Trespasser
Did anyone else notice how once Jirard metioned Lara's "Detective Mode", Batman Arkham City music kicked in?
Dollar Shave Club. Also known as "I now have razors for eight lifetimes"
This was definitely one of the games I bought a PS4 for. One of the best games I’ve ever played, personally. I honestly consider it to be on of my favorite games
Is that... is that a fucking loot box?!
Gold 😂
Happy to see this Jirad. Hope to see you tackle Rise Of The Tomb Raider soon as well.
You have to show ids to buy a razor in America?
AHMED SALAH but not to buy an AR-15 ;)
You’ve gotta be mental if you think you don’t need ID and a thorough background check to buy an AR-15. If you want to buy ANY gun you have to have ID and a background check...
Where I am in Georgia, you can just drive to the store, grab a pack, pay for it, and that's it. No ID required.
At self service checkout I would imagine, just like in the UK in most places.
Josh Jacobs well if you've voted you'd know you have to show an ID when you walk in.
the return of your greatest nemesis: Online Multiplayer good job powering through great review
I hate the redesign Lara in this version, 2013 is actually hot and cute
2013 facial model looked like a ditzy super model. the redone face of the current gen port looked better, even more so with the sequel
@@HyouVizer Wrong.
This was my first Tomb Raider game I played, back in 2015, and it's a FANTASTIC game
Glad to see you got a sponsor :)
I beat this entire game on Hard with just the bow and the pike.
It was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done as a gamer. The guns make the game easy.
Just forgot one thing:
"SAAAAAAMMMM! *mouth breathing*"
Currently running this game. Will NOT be attempting multiplayer and I don't feel bad about that.
Great video btw!
I would be totally fine with you skipping multiplayer achievements.
0:34 ONE. WIPE. CHARLIES. BUTT. WIPES. (T_T)
i love your videos dude.
This is actually one of the few games that I have done 100%, I have no idea why I did but I did. Loved the video!
Would love to see the original Tomb Raider just for the nostalgia.
I dunno where Jirard lives, but I live in Utah and there's a Sizzler around every fucking corner....
This is a reboot done right.
Yes both this and the sequel are amazing.
Yep, playing through the sequel right now and I love it so far.
Amen to that
Ehh, I have mixed feelings about it.
I'm also very eh about it. Definitely a fun game, but the first three are still my favorite Tomb Raiders.
I might pick this up. I love my remastered games that allow me to experience games I missed in all the glory.
Amazing video as always! You should complete crypt of the necrodancer
Dalton Patterson Oh, that request is EVIL!
i never played ps1 or ps2 era tomb raider games. i started here too. and let me tell you ive played this rebooted trilogy FIVE TIMES this year. its that good!
Time to raid them tombs!
You should try one of the earlier dozen tomb raider games. Didn't really think much of the lack of story since it's been revisited so many times.
27:00 How can you get the Platinum…without the multiplayer trophies? Aren’t they tied ?
That’s exactly what I thought
Just as an fyi, while character development wasn't a major focus in this one the sequel does a better job of that
Also they did get rid of vs multiplayer, but they added a cool co-op mode
Link2434 character development was pretty bad in rise too. Not,once through either games was there a memorable character. somebody you realy care about.
I really cared about Alex in the first one, but that might be because one of my friends is literally the real life version of him
Besides Ms.Pacman, Lara Croft May be one of the most recognizable female video game characters of all time? Someone must have forgotten Zelda, Princess Peach and Samus.
Not at all my kind of Tomb Raider game, to be honest, but I liked this review! Keep up the good work!
Okay, I'm digging the Nights into Dreams music during the sponsorship. Great start.
Complete the original ratchet and clank trilogy pls.
Don't you just love the way his beard keeps gradually creeping upwards towards his eyes, eventually covering his whole face and making him a wolfman?
Just teasing bro. Love your channel :D
Am I the only one who couldn't enjoy the original at all because of the controls?
I loved the original, but I can't blame anyone for hating the controls. I can't go back and replay it because they're so bad.
Yes. Git gud, scrub.
The controls are realy bad, i know it was one of the first 3d platformers on the PS1 but still, tanky controls just doesn't work on a 3d platform
"Is that...Is that a f*cking loot box?!?" Jirard best quote so far in 2018 xD pissed myself laughing! 24:53
Please complete Devil May Cry
I remember when Tomb Raider's reboot came out for free on Xbox Live a few years back, I loved it and been a fan since
Can you do a DMC Defintive edition?
The one of the first girls gamers loved.
what??
The one of the first girls indeed
Samus who? That character's called Metroid and he's a guy. 🙄
mjc0961 metroid is a girl not a boy
Kevessi metroids don’t have genders there literally brains
Yeah, personally I would have just settled for a Tomb Raider game actually involving raiding tombs, and not just a couple of side areas.
So play the original, bo one really like bithing people 0_0
There are plenty of tombs to explore in this game, have you even played it?
This review helped me to decide on not playing this game, I really don't like games full of gore, I'd stick with the original
if you hate QTEs, you should avoid this game as well, they put quite a few of them in this game when it was the "new hotness"
(( Not a simple topic thus not a simple reply-comment; long post ahead with lots of insight(s). ))
I personally wish that they would have simply continued remake-mastering the old-"Tomb Raider"-series; "Tomb Raider - Anniversary" was a really good entry (I've not gotten "that far", but I'll get there eventually).
---
To me it's not the gore, but how ridiculous it is. Or rather more the "artificiality" to make Lara "frail".
Like yes, naturally-sharp-driftwood and such are a real thing. But in this game everything is "architectured" to kill Lara; pretty much nothing is natural.
Compare this to "Heart of Darkness", the game pretty much no one knew about when "Limbo" was dropped and they went "e-gads, horrid death this rag-doll-physics-boy encounters"; I was obviously rolling me eyes while re-watching death-montage of Andy getting killed-off by, well, pretty much anything
(well kinda not, but the ways of "becoming nothing" simply rivals the "many death of Roger Wilco").
---
I guess my point is: you don't need "gore" to make death look dirty.
(Yes, I did the etymological pun on purpose).
I give much more credit to actually creative and otherwise more, well, "fun"-deaths.
This is where many of the "Full Motion Video" and loads "Adventure"-games have excelled for the most part
(the afore-hinted "Space Quest"-series being one of them).
Not to also mention that coincidentally enough that these death in this category tend to be very cheap-deaths also
(both due "artificial-difficulty"-things and, well, "lazy").
---
"Fun-deaths" however how can actually make you guilty of getting your player-model(s) killed-off, without making the player-model any less weaker; you for the most part don't question the death here. Even when you have a physically strong character
---
---
(( On the comment about "tank-controls", I say they best work in games that don't require "platforming"; when done correctly they give nicely-tight and consistent control over the player-character(s).
And depending on games, they can also keep the characters much more "ground-footed" ("feet on the ground", as in more realistic;
"Aya Brea" for example was for the most part just your everyday police(-girl) officer
(and yes, in my-canon "The 3rd Birthday" does not exist, just like "Alien 3" doesn't)) ))

Bothered by some gore? Poor thing.
Honestly props to you for not mis-pronouncing her name as “Laura”
Honestly this reboot wasn't that great, compared to the Tomb Raider Anniversary remake for instance, or all the first games in the series actually. Here there is almost no proper puzzle, but a lot of QTE's and running sections instead. The story is a bad disaster film plot with too many characters, sure the stories in the old games were less developed but still more intriguing. How many times does Lara get captured in this one? o_* The whole game is just that, being captured and escaping. The only better parts are the combat system, and the graphics, although even they are repetitive compared to the old ones with tons of different colour schemes... :/
Reboot unequal remake. So no shit 0_0
So? I can't compare two games with each other because one is a reboot and the other is a remake? O_O
I feel so bad for Jirard. The multiplayer trophies bring him so much woe. I wish i could put it more eloquently. But my mind is drawing a blank.
Other M is not a reboot and takes place in the middle of Samus's arc and completely disregards anything that happens before or after.
wholeheartedly agreed!
I dislike the reboot and I can't complain about her having to develop confidence. I have bigger problems with how the game plays.
Nice Wizard's Companion in the background. I'm currently playing through Ni No Kuni and loved it. I can't wait for your episode on it!
