Bioshock Infinite would have to be greater then the sum of it parts, because many of it parts were done so incompetently; from poor weapons selection and handling ruining the main focus of gameplay, to Narrative pacing that was filled with plot holes and crammed into a backlogged over drawn reveal that would only surprise the mentally challenged, that and the world building where vigors wouldn't realistically be used by residents of Columbia and voxophone recording being used to record the most unbelievable subject matter leading to a poorly done world building. This isn't even addressing the fact that they had a lot of art content done from enemies to level design that was never developed into anything other then a short stealth sequence.

I got this game on sale for $7, my gosh I had no idea what a beautiful little gold nugget I found! I had heard that this game was good, but HOLY HECK is it awesome! It’s a good thing not all games are this good, because otherwise I would never leave my room. Absolutely loving this gem :)
"The way the enemies shoot on the hardest difficulty is maybe Navy Seal sniper level, but with the spacial awareness of a drunken Roomba." Someone get this man (and the other writers) a Pulitzer.
I have the platinums for all three Dark Souls, but haven't got it yet for Bioshock Infinite because of the freakin' blue ribbon challenges. Not sure when I'll have the mental energy to go through that.
CidGuerreiro1234 the blue ribbon champ trophy is a dlc trophy, so you don't need it for the Platinum, but if you want 100% of the trophies then okay I get what you mean. I'm having so much trouble with it
The soundtrack for this game is absolutely awe-inspiring. The cohesion of intense gameplay, compelling story, levitating music, and idealistic imagery make it an experience I will never forget and a game that will always be a part of my library.
When I heard that newest BioShock is getting a new setting, that being metropolis in the sky, I assume I would like it. I was not wrong. This game is near perfect. The combat (both vigor/plasmids and firearms) seems way better than its predecessors. Story is unmatched, did I care about Jack and Delta and Eleanor, sure, but Booker and Elizabeth are so damn likeable charachters that you get invested in their stories immediately when each of them "hit" the screen. Art and graphics are on another level, in details such as Elizabeth's nail polish being scrubbed off during her quest in DLC. I do admit I cought myself just starring over the horizon more than a few times while traversing Columbia. The game is beautiful and is not shy to show off. Easily 10/10 for me!
I literally just played through every BioShock game for the first time I gotta say that this is my favorite. The gameplay, story, characters, setting everything about it I absolutely adore. Don’t get me wrong I respect the first one and think it’s a classic also and the 2nd one I love a lot more than most it seems (especially Minerva’s Den) but I feel BioShock 2 is the best gameplay wise out of the first two and BioShock has a great story but the gameplay is a bit clunky and the last boss is pretty bad but I feel Infinite is good at both the gameplay and story aspect
Bioshock infinite is one of those games you will never forget, to me this is one of those masterpieces that is like a good book or a good movie. In fact it's in my top 5 video games of all time. *sigh*

@@adamcrocker1335 Bioshock 2 is more of a Bioshock game than Infinite. Infinite is more of a mindless cod game than a bioshock game. This is not an opinion.
Bioshock 2 is far and away my favorite Bioshock game and I do NOT like the plot to Bioshock Infinite as it makes no sense if you actually think about it. And Buruial at Sea can go die in a hole for ignoring all previous Bioshock continuity. And don’t say it takes place in another universe, It is stated that Jack apparently only exists in 1 universe.... somehow...
11:44 I was frustrated that they didn't have the horse scene in the 2011 tech demo just because of Courtney Draper's amazing performance alone. Infinite just didn't go that far with Elizabeth's emotional arc and we never truly got to hear how amazing of a actress she is...then Burial at Sea episode 2 came out and I was fulfilled.
One of my favorite games; I've ways loved how the Bioshock series was able to prove that an FPS type game can have a strong story. Great reviews, as for a threequel I was hoping to see either Arkahm Origins or Arkham Knight; not sure which would count as the third one.
I preordered this game because I liked the previous Bioshock games and I friggin' *love* cities in the sky. And the demos made the game look awesome as hell. The game I got, however, was not the game that was in the demos. The gameplay became less fantastic for the sake of more realistic reactions, the story turned out to be some multidimensional mess that wasn't handled well, and the ending is a 15 minute walk-a-thon that was nothing but exposition.
A lot of the things in the demo were very cinematic, like, would the average player with basic survival skills stand completely still so a massive bell falls right in front of them?
I only played Bioshock Infinite and it is a great game, it's just that as the game went on, I became more interested in the story line and the combat became more of an irritating distraction from continuing the story. It has it's plot holes, but a great story with all three games.
@@psychosparten049.esquire9 songbird had been tormenting them for the entire duration of the game, regardless of whether or not it had free will, Elizabeth had a personal vendetta
The gameplay is what killed this game for me. It was just gun corridor after gun corridor with some breaks in between. And since the gunplay was /bad/ it was just jarring.
I fail to see how giving it Finipete it misaligns with what they said. You can criticize a game and still like it and encourage other people to try it. Honestly you seem to be the one allowing their opinion to get confuse what's actually being said.
Ah, such a gem of a game. Can't really hate this game although the changes that were implemented were kind of disappointing to say the least. Nevertheless it was an amazing experience and the ending was mind blowing!
I can actually see if they decided to make another BioShock game it would be on the moon. Two biodomes One made by America and one made by the Russians built in secret by their respective governments at the end of the space race. Instead of plasmids or vigors you to have nanites, having been created using Low to no gravity areas and the absence of heat (being in space) to keep the micro machines from melting until put in some sort of solution that you drink or inject. Heck you could use the old space suit with the gold visor as their own version of a big daddy just like infinite had the handyman.
drake doersam if they did it probably be smart to give it the BioShock name for both brand recognition and the fact it would have so many elements similar to BioShock it just be called a BioShock clone without it.
@@Nazo-kage I think it could be its own thing. Think about it like from soft games you can have different titles such as bloodborne and Dark souls 3 which share very similar mechanics but are different enough to be seen as their own Games.
It's not my first time on the internet, but while Bioshock Infinite was hot I (successfully) took great effort to aviod spoilers. I've wanted to sit down and devote real time to play it for years now. I've decided to download it today. On a personal note, thank you for not spoiling the end.
I know it has become real cool to hate on Bioshock Infinite, and to feel oh-so smart and superior for figuring out its plot holes, but I still think the game is an unparalleled masterpiece. The characters, the themes, the art style and the music were absolutely outstanding, and at the end of the day that's more than enough to make up for the overaching plot, which is a bit lacking in places.
Bioshock Infinite is one of those few games that can truly be classified as a masterpiece. Well deserving of an academy award. Well if they gave academy awards to games.
At the end of the first DLC, how did the Big Daddy get angry at Dewitt, when they hadn't been bonded with the Little Sisters, which happens in the second DLC. Plot Hole of major proportion!
Indeed no, in Bioshock 1 was shown and explained that sometimes a Big Daddy could go out of control and become extremely violent without a real reason. Later after that explanation, delivered trough an audio diary, you come to confront yourself with a Big Daddy on a casual rampage, even if a Little Sister isn't involved. This is because a Big Daddy, as Eve and Adam, are part of a experimental and unsure technology and thus far unstable.
the gameplay still feels weird, in bioshock 1 & 2 i combined freqeunt usage of plasmids with whatever weapon most suited the stuation, in infenete i just shoot everyone in the head with the hunter carbine
This games twist was honestly brilliant But also kinda wrong If Elizabeth is never born then she can never drown booker meaning everything still happens
I always viewed Infinite as an antithesis to the original Bioshock, especially in terms of setting, narrative, themes and the concept of gamers choice.
Plus there was no reason for her to die, she could have just done a dead drop and talked to him on her radio. Would have saved her having to die but then he'd have to explain why she wasn't in Bioshock one lol
The Bioshock series are some of my favorite games! I do not like the clash in the clouds dlc because I hate it when games tell me how to play. I've literally never had infinite crash.
At first, I thought the ending of the game was ridiculous and confusing, but now a few years later after finishing the game, I’m beginning to realize that, yes even though it was a convoluted way of explaining how Infinite tied into the previous Bioshock games, it was still a bold move that honestly now impresses me so much. The DLCs make the story even better and more understandable. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
I honestly can't see this game as a "work of art" or a "gaming masterpiece" because I have so many problems with both story and gameplay that I'm convinced that Bioshock Infinite is trying to tell one story and play a different game is an absurd display of Ludonarrative dissonance. (Which shouldn't be surprising since the first game was the one that coined the very term) Here let me give you a few examples: *Gameplay:* The Vigors give you superhuman powers and abilites that in the hands anyone could cause anarchy or the downfall of society (case and point the first game) *Story:* The Vigors have zero impact on the story. *Story:* Elizabeth has spent her entire life locked away in a tower, never going outside or mingling with others. *Gameplay:* Elizabeth somehow knows how to handle herself in a gunfight despite having zero outdoor experience. *Story:* The focus for Comstock would be trying to get Elizabeth back after she's escaped the tower *Gameplay:* The soldiers completely ignore Elizabeth and just try to kill Booker *Gameplay:* The game offers a few moral choices that the player has to make a split decision of what to do. *Story:* The do bugger all, best you get with them are one scene that doesn't affect the main story at all. *Story:* Songbird being designed like a boss character considering he has glowing points and is very imposing, legitimately very terrifying. *Gameplay:* You don't get to fight him, that would have be soooooo damn satisfying. *Gameplay:* The only boss fight in the game is against Elizabeth's Ghost mother *Story:* A Ghost? Really *Story:* Whenever Booker goes down there's a scene where Elizabeth is frantically struggling to get him conscious again. *Gameplay:* When Elizabeth is not around he gets back up anyway. *Story:* Its established that if someone dies in one timeline they go crazy and frequently phase in and out of existence in another as shown by Chen Lin. Also In one timeline Booker dies *Gameplay:* This never happens to Booker, (or Comstock for that matter) And that's not even counting the numerous story inconsistencies the game has, The first tear we see Elizabeth open is to Paris, and yet not once does she and Booker use one of these to escape Columbia. Serious ANYWHERE would be better for them to be than in Columbia where everyone is trying to kill them, it COULD have been established that they didn't want to divert off their universe, yet later they start travelling to other universes with no second thought. But it seems that the only reason that doesn't happen is because the designers don't want you to leave Columbia cause it LOOKS PWETTY.
Besides the Songbird criticism, I really feel like you're looking wayyyy too deep into it. Like, the problem with Booker getting up when Elizabeth isn't around honestly seems like a non issue
They actually communicate pretty clearly that Elizabeth doesn’t have power over where tears appear or where they lead, as for the Paris tear at the beginning, I don’t really get why she never just entered that one and left the tower, but The several times they do enter another universe it’s pretty apparent it’s more complex than just walking through a tear. I might be missing something or in the case of that one tear, yes there may be a problem.
+Fallen Mango She was locked in a tower. A tear could have lead almost anywhere & it would still make no sense that she didn't use it. Also, the tears are, in her own words, "a form of wish fulfillment" which means she obviously would've seen Paris more than once. Also, she opens ones to exactly where she needs to go multiple times except, due to lazy writing, it's always somewhere in Columbia. Also, what's up with the part where she opens a tear into a building & the songbird of that dimension veers toward the building so she closes the tear? How did Songbird immediately track her across dimensions? Why would he crash into a building if he knows she's in it? Why isn't Elizabeth upset that a lot of people probably just died in a hilarious manner?
With how often he goes to Coldstone talking about their delicious flavor combos in this episode you would think this video was Sponsored by Coldstone Creamery.

I got this game on sale for $7, my gosh I had no idea what a beautiful little gold nugget I found! I had heard that this game was good, but HOLY HECK is it awesome! It’s a good thing not all games are this good, because otherwise I would never leave my room. Absolutely loving this gem :)
"The way the enemies shoot on the hardest difficulty is maybe Navy Seal sniper level, but with the spacial awareness of a drunken Roomba."
Someone get this man (and the other writers) a Pulitzer.
While going through Infinite I forgot I was playing a Bioshock game until the ending, and that ending hit me as hard as a Big Daddy would.
This episode's script was impeccable
Pablo Horst facts. My 4th coming back to this
Other than the coldstone joke, I agree
Wait it's threequl month then that means it's time for suffering, death, difficulty it's time for *Dark Souls 3*
Blandy8521 I thought getting the platinum for this was harder then DS3 personally. Love both games.
I mean I agree on everything except the combat and story
*sigh*
jano Gabor yeah you need to rethink that you only want to sound smart. I pity you.
jano Gabor I mean once I finished it the story kinda made sense to me, also I don't really see why this guy should change his opinion
Jano, they don't need to rethink anything. They are entitled to their opinion.
Bioshock forces is -unforgiv- unforgettable for me too, but it's for different reasons.
What do u mean it made no sense? lmao
I literally just finished this game a couple of days ago! I absolutely loved it!!!
Welcome to Episode 9 of me asking Jirard to complete Yakuza 0.

Bioshock 1: legendary
Bioshock 2: legendary
Bioshock Infinite: Legendary
Bioshock 2 is far from legendary
@@adamcrocker1335 lol k. Whatever u say
@@Bean-mr8sf It's a good game don't get me wrong but it's not on the level of Bioshock 1 or infinite IMO, those games are masterpieces.
@@adamcrocker1335 Bioshock 2 is more of a Bioshock game than Infinite. Infinite is more of a mindless cod game than a bioshock game. This is not an opinion.
@@t.o.p.4175 yes it is
Bioshock 2 is far and away my favorite Bioshock game and I do NOT like the plot to Bioshock Infinite as it makes no sense if you actually think about it. And Buruial at Sea can go die in a hole for ignoring all previous Bioshock continuity. And don’t say it takes place in another universe, It is stated that Jack apparently only exists in 1 universe.... somehow...
“Booker, do you ever get used to killing?”
“Faster than you can imagine.”
I have been waiting for this review for so long!! Ahhh love this game!! I still want another bioshock game....
Just replayed it and set my own goal of playing it completely with the starting pistol on the hardest difficulty. Was a great time.
This episode of The Completionist was brought to you by Cold Stone Creamery
Actually the original Bioshock was a commentary on Objectivism.
TheSwordsman100 Achtually it’s about fish
I thought it was about why you shouldnt build a city underwater....
You sheeple have all been miss lead, bioshock 1 is all about the sweet, sweet taste of bepis
Wasn't it about blackjacks and hookers
The original Bioshock wasn't commentary so much on objectivism, it was more of a commentary on the danger of going to extremes.
One of my favorite games; I've ways loved how the Bioshock series was able to prove that an FPS type game can have a strong story. Great reviews, as for a threequel I was hoping to see either Arkahm Origins or Arkham Knight; not sure which would count as the third one.
"Don't tell her that scene didn't make it into the final game" I fucking died xD
But she played the game, obviously
@@psychosparten049.esquire9 "obviously"? Wait, what did I miss that proved she actually played the game?
I preordered this game because I liked the previous Bioshock games and I friggin' *love* cities in the sky. And the demos made the game look awesome as hell. The game I got, however, was not the game that was in the demos. The gameplay became less fantastic for the sake of more realistic reactions, the story turned out to be some multidimensional mess that wasn't handled well, and the ending is a 15 minute walk-a-thon that was nothing but exposition.
I 1000-pointed it in the first three days and then sold it off.
I still play Bioshock 2.
Elizabeth is such a bae ♡
She reminded me of Rapunzel from Tangled, her story is sort of similar, too!
She killed songbird for little to no reason, I hate her so much.
@@psychosparten049.esquire9 songbird had been tormenting them for the entire duration of the game, regardless of whether or not it had free will, Elizabeth had a personal vendetta
Na you weird
Fantastic art direction, great story, shoddy gunplay. I give this game my Casualist rating of finipete it.
I agree, I cannot believe how much praise this goddamn game got.
Sleepy Eevee Gunplay isn’t great but I personally never really care about it and I found it sufficient enough even after having played Bioshock 1
The gameplay is what killed this game for me. It was just gun corridor after gun corridor with some breaks in between. And since the gunplay was /bad/ it was just jarring.
The gameplay was great.
Indeed.
My favourite use of licensed music in this is the Calliope version of Girls Just Want To Have Fun. The one that plays on the beach.
Thank you for covering this video game. It is one of my favorite games. :) Great video!
3 years later the game still holds up.
YES I LOVE THIS GAME
ME TOO!!
Just experienced this game on switch for the first time~ finally I can watch this video
It's not my first time on the internet, but while Bioshock Infinite was hot I (successfully) took great effort to aviod spoilers. I've wanted to sit down and devote real time to play it for years now.
I've decided to download it today.

Bioshock infinite is my favorite game of all time.
Z3RO19 ehh I just didn’t like the setting gameplay or story
Not to mention Bioshock 2's story has WAY more plotholes. But don't tell them that.
Favorite bioshock game by far. But bioshock as a whole is a series that will never be forgotten.
Bioshock Infinite is one of those few games that can truly be classified as a masterpiece. Well deserving of an academy award. Well if they gave academy awards to games.
Jirard....it's time...You have to complete Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.
Not gonna lie, bioshock infinite felt like a watered down Borderlands
But this game is amazing still.
BioShock Infinite makes me sad.
Why?
Minumer because he’s not in it of courseXD
It's because this city stayed *afloat* longer than his did.
Andrew Ryan bioshock two makes me sad. Rest in peace Sinclair
Me too ;-;
honestly my favorite bioshock game, its such a damn masterpiece
2013 was an awesome year. The Last of Us, Bioshock, and GTA V.
@@MrXDRocker Apparently the gas released from launching the drill can drive them insane, similar to the Alpha Series from 2 without their Sisters.
Bioshock Infinite is the best Bioshock.
the gameplay still feels weird, in bioshock 1 & 2 i combined freqeunt usage of plasmids with whatever weapon most suited the stuation, in infenete i just shoot everyone in the head with the hunter carbine
The gameplay of Infinite is super underwhelming compared to that of 1 and 2.
Combat, overall mechanics and level design are extremely lacking.
The music always just takes me back to that first play through. It’s comforting
This was my favorite video game of all time for years and years.
Fallout 3 dark souls 3 mass effect 3 can i see just one of these
@Charlie Chaman And so is your opinion
Great characters, Great story, Great gameplay,
Easily my favorite bioshock game.
Wtf, how can it be that Infinite was released 5 years ago?!
Kombinatsiya we all getting old my dude
Felt like it just came out, dang, time is passing too quickly.
Infinite is still my favorite and its a yearly play for me
This games twist was honestly brilliant
But also kinda wrong
If Elizabeth is never born then she can never drown booker meaning everything still happens
Probably some unexplained multiverse rule about there always being one left over lol great story but it has it's plot holes.
I always viewed Infinite as an antithesis to the original Bioshock, especially in terms of setting, narrative, themes and the concept of gamers choice.
I really didn't care for the final ending, just rubbed me the wrong way as it treads old ground, and frankly came up with some stupid reasoning.
Plus there was no reason for her to die, she could have just done a dead drop and talked to him on her radio. Would have saved her having to die but then he'd have to explain why she wasn't in Bioshock one lol
@Alan Au Yes, she obviously wanted to die.
The Bioshock series are some of my favorite games!
I do not like the clash in the clouds dlc because I hate it when games tell me how to play.
I've literally never had infinite crash.
No matter what anyone else says this is the best game ive played and probably the game that impacted me the most.
It threequel month but it's only the second month of the year I can't be the only one who noticed this
I honestly can't see this game as a "work of art" or a "gaming masterpiece" because I have so many problems with both story and gameplay that I'm convinced that Bioshock Infinite is trying to tell one story and play a different game is an absurd display of Ludonarrative dissonance. (Which shouldn't be surprising since the first game was the one that coined the very term)
Here let me give you a few examples:
*Gameplay:* The Vigors give you superhuman powers and abilites that in the hands anyone could cause anarchy or the downfall of society (case and point the first game)
*Story:* The Vigors have zero impact on the story.
*Story:* Elizabeth has spent her entire life locked away in a tower, never going outside or mingling with others.
*Gameplay:* Elizabeth somehow knows how to handle herself in a gunfight despite having zero outdoor experience.
*Story:* The focus for Comstock would be trying to get Elizabeth back after she's escaped the tower
*Gameplay:* The soldiers completely ignore Elizabeth and just try to kill Booker
*Gameplay:* The game offers a few moral choices that the player has to make a split decision of what to do.
*Gameplay:* The only boss fight in the game is against Elizabeth's Ghost mother
*Story:* A Ghost? Really
*Story:* Whenever Booker goes down there's a scene where Elizabeth is frantically struggling to get him conscious again.
*Gameplay:* When Elizabeth is not around he gets back up anyway.
*Story:* Its established that if someone dies in one timeline they go crazy and frequently phase in and out of existence in another as shown by Chen Lin. Also In one timeline Booker dies
*Gameplay:* This never happens to Booker, (or Comstock for that matter)
And that's not even counting the numerous story inconsistencies the game has, The first tear we see Elizabeth open is to Paris, and yet not once does she and Booker use one of these to escape Columbia.
TheDuckClock Holy shit... it must be exhausting for you to play any games. If you can’t see the beauty and fun of this game, I’m just sad for you.
TheModernAlchemist You guys will just ignore anything, huh?
Jirad? Would you kindly review Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty?
Omnicidal Clown That requires an explanation of that mindfuck ending
That's not a third game though. :V (well, it sorta is, but Metal Gear is complicated..)
Technically, the first MGS is the third one.
Threequel month
Cam Rutherford it’s like the fifth, it’s mgs3, V, metal gear, and metal gear 2
One of my favourite FPS games. People complain about it because its ending is complicated, but I love games that make you think
With how often he goes to Coldstone talking about their delicious flavor combos in this episode you would think this video was Sponsored by Coldstone Creamery.
Is it perfect... no. NO game is. But it was the most enjoyable and stunning game I've ever played. Nothing gameplay says superior, but its the journey that really awes you. I know its not a popular opinion, however, it's still may favorite game of all time.
I guess I am a robot, then. The end of the game wrecked what I already thought was just a passable story for me, and the gameplay started off boring and ended up tedious, and yet still somehow felt far too easy at the same time.
What? Holy hell! A completionist review this early?
Omnicidal Clown That's what I said.
Omnicidal Clown Hey, that's great. I can watch before I work

I still have to say this is one of my favorite games of all time, and the DLCs of “Burial at Sea” are great as well
