This is arguably my favorite game of all time, so I'm happy to finally see you review it! I do think you're slightly underselling the story though, and seeing as I've finished the game about 10-12 times, I can safely say the amount of depth this story has is staggering. The whole story is a deconstruction of the classical JRPG story, pointing out the twisted logic behind many of these popular clichès, like the idea of evil in general, the psychological effects of being raised as a messiah, the concept of discrimination from a larger perspective than simply "it's bad", etc.

I bawled at the very end of it, knowing Kratos would be forever bound to wander in space getting rid of the exspheres, while Lloyd is left in the new world. HALF A MILLION!?!?!? HALF. A. MILLION!? Jirard REALLY only has just over half a million subscribers. WOW. I REALLY though he had at least a million. He deserves at least 3.
That intro speech though. That was truly moving, for real though. You are such an inspiration to many including myself man. And you are soo humble at the same time, you won't take any credit without first giving credit to your many many fans. Keep up the great work man, you truly are remarkable! ^.^
If Jirard is suprised about their being a Norse Mythology reference in ToS, he's gonna be estatic once he plays Shin Megami Tensei.....whenever he gets to one.
COnsidering SYmphonia is a prequel to Phantasia, their very first "Tales of" game, the Norse mythology references were almost forced to appear. Phantasia had a ton of them, beggining with the fact their world tree was literally the World Tree Yggdrasil (like in Norse myths),and all three of the ancient civilizations of Phantasia were named after a Norse deity (Fenrir, Odin and Thor).
I'm at the point though, myself, where I can get through a run in 48 hours. That said, I want to get to Omegaevolution's speedrunning level of 7 hours.
(I think I read your question wrong in that the "that" you referred to was the 80 hours and not my 48) For me? Not all of them, just the ones I feel like taking the time to do, most of my time got put into money grinding for Luin. (GIMME DAT MONEY DRAGON!) But I think that on a vanilla exp very casual run through while taking your time and figuring things out should be about 80, yeah?
Jirard! I loved your JRPG skits in this episode, it was so funny and accurate! More please, I really felt like you were showing me a cutscene from That One Gamer by Square Enix on PS4 or something.
Bless you sir. Symphonia is a MONSTER to complete. At least three playthroughs, if you know what to do, memorizing when and where events happen so you don't miss stuff, tons and tons of monsters to encounter, pointless items and titles, and an amazingly epic story. The closest I got to completion was four playthroughs, level 212, about 97% on collecting, 60% on figures, and I was missing several titles.
Not really Its more of its own thing now heck they dont even put shin megami tensai on the box anymore, plus when was the last time that SMT had a home console release persona 5 is on ps4 while smt is on 3ds
Your intro speech was unbelievably touching and inspiring to those of us striving so hard to reach out to people. This is definitely one of my top favorite games, despite its cliches and sometimes foreseeable plot twists. But there was so much beauty and emotion and hard work put into this game.
Just gonna be honest... I don't watch the channel for you. For you, exclusively, I mean. For me, I watch it for the fantastic presentation, the very detailed information you provide, and yes, to a degree you.
he said he would do it when they stopped with updating it with content. so a couple months ago was final as the last updates for guns and the new amiibos were the last bits of content. so he isn't forgetting yet. just was waiting till they stop with content. so SIT THE @&!$ DOWN AND CALM THE @*&!#$ DOWN
true. but look at what the amiibos gave in smash and splatoon. smash was basicly figurines you can teach to fight. splatoon gave content. like guns and outfits and challenges.
That one moment you realise that the "Symphonia" in the title didn't mean an actual symphony, but the harmony of having these two worlds as one The team that brought us this gem really did some thought into just the title alone o_o
Ohh, Yggdrassil? Norse myth? Oh wait, the artist who designed the characters is the mangaka of Oh My Goddess which is for the biggest part Norse myth. :D
I'm really excited to see the show get more real, more raw, and really show how much you struggle through these games. Completing is an incredibly taxing and difficult undertaking, and completing a game a week is frankly insane. Thanks for all that you do, my Beard Bro.
Thanks for completing one of my favorite games. Now I triple dog dare you to play Nier. That game will kick you in the feels 10x more than tales of symphonia.
Jerard, I absolutely love seeing everything you do, pouring yourself into what you love. You remind me of a dear friend of mine, and I have an unfathomable amount of respect for the guy. Keep being the awesome guy you are, my friend! If you're ever in Oklahoma City for any reason, you'll always be welcome here!
By the way, I want to complete Ocarina of Time because while I've beaten it, I haven't completed it. I've completed Twilight Princess, Four Swords Adventures, and Majora's Mask, but not Ocarina of Time. Once I complete Wind Waker, I'll be sure to get there.
Tactics Ogre the Knight of Lodis. There are technically 6 endings, but there are multiple sub-endings based on whether or not you killed a certain boss, or one character survived and another didn't, if they both survived, or if they both died. There can be upwards to 40+ endings.
The Christ analogue is even more obvious in the Japanese version, where the Chosen is called "Miko" - No, not written like "Shrine Maiden", but in a different spelling which... is usually used by Japanese Christians to refer to the son of god, Jesus Christ. Yeeeeeeeeep.
The part where Alex earns the title "Miyamoto" made me literally laugh out loud! :D I love this show, I love this crew, and I am very thankful for you and your youtube community!
I'd like to see you complete the original Devil May Cry. I know you like the reboot, which is fine even if I am not particularly partial towards it. However more than just getting a better idea as to why fans like myself were displeased with the reboot, I think it's important for you to see one of the critical foundations of the action genre as we know it today. Games like God of War for example would not be what they are if it wasn't for Devil May Cry .
laprasking: Worst part is when the game glitches out, keeping you from getting the "Vyse the Legend" title, even when you did everything right throughout the game. Happened to me once; I know I did everything because I unlocked the three secrets (the "Sky Fang" weapon for Vyse, the "Golden Hamachou" discovery and the boss battle against Air Pirate Vigoro), but the game would still display my title as "Vyse the Bounty King", what the heck!?!?!?
Jirard, you and everything you built up over the years is/are amazing. Keep it up, thank you for finally doing Tales, and doing it justice. We love you.
I don't comment on things often, that being said Jirard, I've been subbed to That One Video Gamer for years now and I always appreciate the content you put up, congratulations on 5 years and an amazing job building this community up for us, keep it going!!! Here's to 5 more 😁
this game was the first rpg i really ever played and its the game that really got me into rpgs. i just remember putting an alarm clock on 3am to play before getting up at 6 for school. this game is so close to my heart and thank you so much for covering it
I would love it if he did! It's actually one of the first games I ever tried to complete. Ironically, I still haven't beaten it. :/ Still an amazing game.
aye it rly is. if you are some what familiar with anime and their character types its a bit easier on the eyes and ears. but story wise and gameplay wise it rocked my world in 2004 :D and still does to this day:)
+szuds21 Try out Final Fantasy XIII. Everyone seems to dislike it with a burning passion, but I found it to be an extremely enjoyable experience. Plus, you can probably get it for dirt cheap at GameStop. I got my copy for like $10.
I have the PS3 version and it's really worth it, Jirard said that the community prefers the gamecube version because of the 60FPS, but for me having extra content wide screen and the original voices it's more than enough to compensate that. About the Steam version, it was broken when it was released, but since some months ago I was checking the Steam reviews and looks like it's fixed, so, maybe it's worth to check that version.
Yeah, I will forever love the GC version, but I definitely wish that I would've done my videos on the PS3 version...its just so much easier to look at lol.
Oh, there is a full translation patch out there for the PS3 version...I forgot about it, I should get it & play the PS3 one, just after going through the 360 version 5 times put me off for many years haha
I have to say, seeing this video is a breathe of fresh air. This was the second game I got for the gamecube. I remember the astonishment I felt when I beaten the game as it was suuuuuuper long. I use to games I could binge in a day, beat it, play it again at a slower pace, then toss to the side. I played it twice and didn't know about a lot of things hidden in. When I told my other gamer buds about it. I just got looks like I fabricated the whole thing from some fever dream. It still feels like that but since other titles from the Tales have appeared. The looks have died down. Up to this day, I still hold this game at high status. I loved the combat system and how control much control I had over it. I find the skits charming and generally get a chuckle out of them. It fit my style of always searching and coming finding a new side quest or something else. Even during my third playthrough when Colette triggered her mystic arte, I was stunned as I thought the game couldn't throw anymore surprises me. Still, loved the video and the opening skit was spectacular
BB is easier than Dark Souls I dont think that's "merciless" In fact even with the DLC its shorter to, its not that hard to comlete outside of max level and he never did that for DS1 or 2 so it wouldn't be very hard. Only the chalice dungeons are annoying and they dont even scale on NG+
From a completionist standpoint, Bloodborne is wayyy less taxing than Dark Souls. The emphasis is more on the action elements than the RPG elements. The only thing that would be taxing would be reaching max level (he did actually go out of his way to reach max level in DS1, which I sorta lol'd at). In those games you aren't ever really meant to completely max out your character. They're less about grinding/stockpiling xp and more about constructing clever builds with the limited xp you organically acquire throughout the course of the game.
Net Blanka getting all the monster hearts without cheat codes would be like completing another game. and then there's the completing every classes for every character. i would love to see him complete and review it.
Bro ! I discovered your channel about 3 month ago and I am hooked !! Thanks for the work you are putting to finish all these games and great presentation and analysis ! Looking forward to see more of the completionist. I wish I have the time to do what you are doing

"Not one, not two, but more than two" ... That line had me laughing way longer than necessary.
It's too easy to binge you and your team's videos, thank you for the work and personality y'all put in
Hehe. Tales of Symphonia is my favorite game of literally all time. I've got 20+ playthroughs and 1300+ hours on it. So, thank YOU for this video.
I'm at the point though, myself, where I can get through a run in 48 hours. That said, I want to get to Omegaevolution's speedrunning level of 7 hours.
(I think I read your question wrong in that the "that" you referred to was the 80 hours and not my 48)
For me? Not all of them, just the ones I feel like taking the time to do, most of my time got put into money grinding for Luin. (GIMME DAT MONEY DRAGON!)
But I think that on a vanilla exp very casual run through while taking your time and figuring things out should be about 80, yeah?
Jirard! I loved your JRPG skits in this episode, it was so funny and accurate! More please, I really felt like you were showing me a cutscene from That One Gamer by Square Enix on PS4 or something.
Quick fact. There's a Manga in Japan about Jesus and Buddha being roommates in Japan as they learn about Japanese culture
gebbar sandoval its funny i saw it earlier
What‘s the mangas name?
Bless you sir. Symphonia is a MONSTER to complete. At least three playthroughs, if you know what to do, memorizing when and where events happen so you don't miss stuff, tons and tons of monsters to encounter, pointless items and titles, and an amazingly epic story. The closest I got to completion was four playthroughs, level 212, about 97% on collecting, 60% on figures, and I was missing several titles.
Sitting here feeling like the only one who actually likes Tales of Symphonia 2's story.
Jackman LeBlanc don't worry, I'm with you
Jackman LeBlanc nah I loved it :)
It has it's issues, but it's still an enjoyable game and has a pretty good story!
Jackman LeBlanc I liked it too.
That's usually how it works but it still a pretty good game.
I want Jirard to complete a game called Blue Dragon, its a JRPG that no-one else seems to have played and I want people to try it
I own Blue Dragon Plus, does that counts?
Eric Weichhart I've not played Blue Dragon Plus, I do wanna play it though...Is it good?
I didn't play it too much yet. I had a big backlog in my 3DS and little time to spare >.>
What about Lost Odyssey? Oh, either way. I want him to complete both.
Ryan Horlock gay
Megami Tensei should be part of the 4 biggest JRPG series that aren't Pokemon or Mario
Its overshadowed by its more popular spin off Persona
Persona counts as part of Shin Megami Tensai; so yeah, SMT is a big franchise.
Not really Its more of its own thing now heck they dont even put shin megami tensai on the box anymore, plus when was the last time that SMT had a home console release persona 5 is on ps4 while smt is on 3ds
if Final Fantasy Tactics is considered a Final Fantasy game, then Persona is considered a Megami Tensei game
except tactics still has final fantasy in the name they dropped the shin megami tensai from the title of persona
Your intro speech was unbelievably touching and inspiring to those of us striving so hard to reach out to people.
This is definitely one of my top favorite games, despite its cliches and sometimes foreseeable plot twists. But there was so much beauty and emotion and hard work put into this game.
The beginning had me cracking up lool
what about THE WONDERFUL 101 !!!
What a lovely, criminally underrated game.
Yeah! Give us some of dat 101!
"Feel the pain of being god dam adorable" hahahahaha
I honestly thought that Tales of Symphonia was just a fever dream game that I made up in my head as a child, glad to know that it actually exists lol
Just gonna be honest... I don't watch the channel for you. For you, exclusively, I mean. For me, I watch it for the fantastic presentation, the very detailed information you provide, and yes, to a degree you.
Yes his videos are very very well done.
I NEVER CLICKED SO FAST IN MY LIFE THIS JUST MADE MY DAY :D !
please just finish splatoon part two it's been a fucking year Jirard
we have to make jirard see this
he said he would do it when they stopped with updating it with content. so a couple months ago was final as the last updates for guns and the new amiibos were the last bits of content. so he isn't forgetting yet. just was waiting till they stop with content. so SIT THE @&!$ DOWN AND CALM THE @*&!#$ DOWN
gamerbrony72 when smash 4 came out did he have to wait for the amiibos to come out no
true. but look at what the amiibos gave in smash and splatoon. smash was basicly figurines you can teach to fight. splatoon gave content. like guns and outfits and challenges.
And splatoon is just music...
That one moment you realise that the "Symphonia" in the title didn't mean an actual symphony, but the harmony of having these two worlds as one
The team that brought us this gem really did some thought into just the title alone o_o
That intro got me emotional, god damnit we love you Jirard!
Ohh, Yggdrassil? Norse myth? Oh wait, the artist who designed the characters is the mangaka of Oh My Goddess which is for the biggest part Norse myth. :D
Actually surprised it was not mentioned as it's one of the advertisement points on the box, at least over here in the Netherlands it was.
Yes, his name is in the box.
since you're using them as a coaster, can I get a game for GameCube?
I'm really excited to see the show get more real, more raw, and really show how much you struggle through these games. Completing is an incredibly taxing and difficult undertaking, and completing a game a week is frankly insane. Thanks for all that you do, my Beard Bro.
Waiting for xenoblade
xenoblade is great but this game still sits as my favorite
Now that's one hell of an undertaking.
Yeah, me too. Stopped at Lorianthia (sp?). BS boss.
Do you want him to die?
DissidiaSR21 noo
I would like to see A completionist video where Jirard isn't complaining
If Jirard thinks this is bad, he should try Final Fantasy 10-2.
He would probably stab poor alex.
the damn sphere thing while you're stuck on the thunderplains. so easy to miss a little scene there.
I don't know, there are lots of missable scenes in this game too lol...tons of them.
The opening sequence is pure art
The part where Alex earns the title "Miyamoto" made me literally laugh out loud! :D I love this show, I love this crew, and I am very thankful for you and your youtube community!
"By being a part of a community you can be That One..."
***** They did remaster DMC4 on PS4, but DMC1-3 were remastered for PS3.
***** I am sure they could but I have no idea if they will.
Shintai The original Devil May Cry had awesome completion bonuses, like you could play as other characters, like Dante's dad
At last J-man! Now get working on Skies of Arcadia Legends, pleeze!!!!
Yeah!
Yeah, theirs a lot to do in that game.
I've 100% it, its not as harsh as Symphonia. ;)
laprasking: Worst part is when the game glitches out, keeping you from getting the "Vyse the Legend" title, even when you did everything right throughout the game.
I'll settle for the Dreamcast original.
Jirard, you and everything you built up over the years is/are amazing. Keep it up, thank you for finally doing Tales, and doing it justice. We love you.
Alex obtained the title of "Miyamoto"
I'm dead
...480+ hours when it first released... 6 playthroughs.
Totally worth it!
David Dwan yeah I had like 2 or 3 separate save files with about 300 each on them lol. Miss those days....
David Dwan yeah I had like 2 or 3 separate save files with about 300 each on them lol. Miss those days....
COMPLETE Golden Sun and Golden Sun the lost age
2 of the best RPG's to come out on the GBA
I don't comment on things often, that being said Jirard, I've been subbed to That One Video Gamer for years now and I always appreciate the content you put up, congratulations on 5 years and an amazing job building this community up for us, keep it going!!! Here's to 5 more 😁
I've literally never been more aware of Jirard's being a Californian
I'd love to see you tackle the Pikmin games. Particularly the second game, but I'd assume you'd start with the first one
As long as he gets Emile to guest star.
The Green Dragon 53 you can't forget steve
Disgaea will break you!!! Get Lv 9999 and then start at lv 1 again just to get stronger!
this game was the first rpg i really ever played and its the game that really got me into rpgs. i just remember putting an alarm clock on 3am to play before getting up at 6 for school. this game is so close to my heart and thank you so much for covering it
9:30 well there is a manga about buddha and jesus being roommates in tokyo. Close enough i guess.
better than undertale
definitely . No one can argue against that.
soldiersigma507 it was made by one guy....
soldiersigma507
I wouldn't call Undertale a jRPG. Inspired by them, sure, but not the same genre.
So your troll is not only awful, it's not factual.
Yes!
hmm..controversy.. *inserts defense of undertale
do Kid Icarus: Uprising
plz
The Novakid of Terraria That'd be fun but I imagine it'd suck. Multiplayer can't still be alive, right?
I play multiplayer a lot, and there are a lot of people.
The Novakid of Terraria That's pretty rad. Multiplayer was fun on that game.
I would love it if he did! It's actually one of the first games I ever tried to complete. Ironically, I still haven't beaten it. :/ Still an amazing game.
Mad Love Jirard! Your videos are amazing and I always look foreword to the new ones. Heres to five years and hopefully many more to come!
Yay! We beleive in the Comportionist
Alex doesn't. Who has little faith? He has little faith!
I have the faith.
this video made me remember I've never played a jrpg before
szuds21 This one is a good first.
aye it rly is. if you are some what familiar with anime and their character types its a bit easier on the eyes and ears. but story wise and gameplay wise it rocked my world in 2004 :D and still does to this day:)
Yeah I'd say most of the tales games would be a good first to try.
+szuds21 Try out Final Fantasy XIII. Everyone seems to dislike it with a burning passion, but I found it to be an extremely enjoyable experience. Plus, you can probably get it for dirt cheap at GameStop. I got my copy for like $10.
Isn't your profile picture N? Pokemon is a jrpg.
Jirard I challenge you to become not a dragon rider but a dragon hunter by completing "Monster Hunter Generations"!!!!!!
That speech actual moved me wow thanks that made my day
I've never played this game either... If you have so many copies I'd love to have one. :P
can get the PS3 HD port or the crappy HD port off Steam, take your pic :3
I have the PS3 version and it's really worth it, Jirard said that the community prefers the gamecube version because of the 60FPS, but for me having extra content wide screen and the original voices it's more than enough to compensate that.
About the Steam version, it was broken when it was released, but since some months ago I was checking the Steam reviews and looks like it's fixed, so, maybe it's worth to check that version.
Steam version is fine now. I can confirm.
No 60fps tho.
Yeah, I will forever love the GC version, but I definitely wish that I would've done my videos on the PS3 version...its just so much easier to look at lol.
?
How could that be ? isn't it that as long as you've got a good PC config, you can run it at more than 60fps ?
Respect to you for playing the 60fps superior version on GameCube. Much respect...
OK, Now Do Tales of Vesperia
PS3 Version
Oh, there is a full translation patch out there for the PS3 version...I forgot about it, I should get it & play the PS3 one, just after going through the 360 version 5 times put me off for many years haha
A year later, they are finally announcing Vesperia HD Definitive edition, with all of the missing content and characters.
luckily we have a definitive edition on PS4 Xbox One and Nintendo switch
That game was complete fucking TRASH
@@timhook2086 for you and only you
I have to say, seeing this video is a breathe of fresh air.
Still, loved the video and the opening skit was spectacular
i never knew about this game until it was mention on super beard bros and the completionist
that's good then. Thanks to this channel, a new person had found out about this game.
Well now you have a few weeks of no-lifing to look forward to.
So who else here as watched the playthrough of this game that SGB did??
And I mean the WHOLE THING
Who's SGB?
Stephen Adegun Its "SomecallmeJohnny's" Lets' Play channel that he has. He plays with his brother Eliot and his friend Matt
i did
i got tired of blocks
"I have too many of this game." do I smell a giveaway
Cant help but be repetitive, another amazing video! the work you put in to your videos shows and they are a great joy to watch!
Play Bloodborne!! Jirard, you'll love it.
Have mercy...
BB is easier than Dark Souls I dont think that's "merciless"
In fact even with the DLC its shorter to, its not that hard to comlete outside of max level and he never did that for DS1 or 2 so it wouldn't be very hard. Only the chalice dungeons are annoying and they dont even scale on NG+
After you scrub all the floors in Hyrule, then we can talk about MERCY
Yessss
From a completionist standpoint, Bloodborne is wayyy less taxing than Dark Souls. The emphasis is more on the action elements than the RPG elements. The only thing that would be taxing would be reaching max level (he did actually go out of his way to reach max level in DS1, which I sorta lol'd at). In those games you aren't ever really meant to completely max out your character. They're less about grinding/stockpiling xp and more about constructing clever builds with the limited xp you organically acquire throughout the course of the game.
I really want you to complete a Persona game, though that's probably gonna be awhile.
I challenge thee to complete Dragon Warrior VII...
Because Dragon Quest/Warrior needs some love, I mean you guys completed FF and now this, so its about time the holy trio of jrpgs is completed.
Net Blanka getting all the monster hearts without cheat codes would be like completing another game. and then there's the completing every classes for every character. i would love to see him complete and review it.
rather have him play Dragon Quest 7 the remake on 3DS
he would have SO much fun with the alltrades abbey arc... and sulkk, and gracos V, and everything to do with monster meadows.
Bro ! I discovered your channel about 3 month ago and I am hooked !! Thanks for the work you are putting to finish all these games and great presentation and analysis ! Looking forward to see more of the completionist. I wish I have the time to do what you are doing
