- Playing Shadow of The Colossus PS4 was incredibly refreshing. I had some issues with the original game, but this gorgeous remake fixes a lot of issues the PS2 version had and added a lot more to the game that I must complete. Let's dive into my Shadow of the Colossus review!

In my Shadow of the Colossus review, BluePoint has nailed it. The original game is an emotional journey and it has been remastered in this HD remake for PS4, with new sound effects, amazing visuals, and control revamps. The original game is considered by many as art, and it has a strong emotional impact as you slay these colossi to bring back the one you love. It's a tragic story and overall, Shadow of the Colossus is boss battles the game! Each colossi is so unique, I'm excited to complete this game as I haven't before.

If you could add one more colossus, what would it look like, what would it do, where would its weak spots be and how would you get to them?
It would look like Liam Neeson's arse and produce an endless supply of identical action movies. Each smelling worse than the last.
The spider or monkey colossus that was removed during development.
I have two answers for this.
For cut-colossi: I'd have loved to see that Spider Colossus in the game.
My own original idea: I would love to have seen a Colossus, that is trapped initially. And you have to free it, before you can fight it. You gift it freedom, only to steal away its life. As for what it would look like? I think it should be a literal stone dragon. It can fly for the first phase of the fight, until you manage to stab both weak points on its wings, causing it to crash and cripple itself. The next phase then involves you playing cat n mouse, luring its head into holes, where it breathes fire. You climb up its tail or broken wings, and stab at the base of the neck. Then up to its head, for the killing blow.
I love the fan engagement. I hope your merch sells out thrice.
The extra colossus would be called Entertainment Arts. He would be a big trash can and his weak point would be it’s lootbox generator on its shoulders.
It took me a week but I have officially watched every Completionist episode. And I'm very dissapointed there's NO COMPLETION BONUS

They had a TON of cut colossi, there was originally supposed to be 48 in the game, until they cut it in half to 24, and then they cut it to sixteen. :)

The 79 Gold Coins/Relics and Boon of the Nomad Trophy are a reference to Nomad Colossus a boundary breaker/secret hunter of the OG Shadow of the Colossus. He has a channel check it out.
Also he was part of a huge group of people from the original Shadow of the Colossus, the Secret Seekers

Idk. Every time I fought it the thing's so annoying with trying to headbutt me and shake me off that I would always feel relief when it dies
So scared of fire it lives in a temple with a bunch of fire. How you're supposed to know it's afraid of fire is beyond me.
That is literally a perfect rating for this game. I have said it before: This game is NOT for everyone so not all people want to put in that time and effort. Thank you for having played this, Jirard. It was awesome being there with you while you played. Later, man!
Gonna be honest, this remake was the best game i've best played in my entire life, and i'm pretty convinced that it'll stay this way for a long time, if not forever.

I absolutely loved this game when it came out. I played it over and over again with my group of friends. I still remember how epic the final boss was.
Looking back now, that 79 coin hunt actually has a lot of meaning.
First, it's referenced in the credits as "the 79 steps of enlightenment" alongside a RUclipsr that spent a lot of time digging through the code of the game. Second, it was designed for the people who spent years trying to find a hidden secret within SotC. They never found one, but their dedication to checking the entire map led to the creation of the coin hunt.
i like to think that the 79 steps to enlightment were placed by nomad himself, from using the parachute to get to unreachable spots, walking trought the entire bridge and a ton of the placements, It seems like they wanted to give secret hunters and boundery breakers who spent years seaching for a final big secret (like nomad himself) what they aways wanted and reward them from knowing and exploring the map for so long

I think part of the new rating is that you were more open to the experience of the thing than the first time. Glad you enjoyed it!
This couldn't have been better timing for this NG+ episode! I went and bought this game last night to experience this game for the first time! Now to see what my completionist journey has in store for me. Love what you're doing Jirad! :D
One of my favourite aspects of this game is the two Colossus fight music tracks for each one. One when you're not on the Colossus and one where you are. They all sound incredible. My favourite is the 'on' track for the bird one. Also this game started with 48 colossi till they removed most of them, time constraint reasons
2018 SotC: I have to thousand percent complete it.
2020 Doom: **** that, take years to 1000 percent the game multiplayer achievments.

I find it funny hearing people say things about the control setup. I had to put this back onto "classic" because I have played this game to death on the PS2 and PS3 and pressing anything other than triangle to jump just didn't compute!
Also having a different layout to other games doesn't make the controls "bad".
You're not wrong on either count, but I'll probably be playing it with the new controls since they did feel awkward to me the first time around and these will feel more natural with all the dark souls/ monster hunter/ bloodborne I have played over the years.
Changing the controls back to the original was the first thing I did. Any other way just doesn't feel right. I am glad that there are different controls for players who maybe don't like the original as much, though. That's a nice option to have.
I personally like the old controls. I mean, even initially playing it for the first time on PS3 I thought they were fine and worked well enough. Besides. R2 to grab feel weird to me.
Yeah I had no problem with the original controls. If they didn't keep them I'd be real bothered playing it.
I found it interesting how at the end Dormin said “thou severed our body into sixteen segments” while looking at Lord Emon.

Dang, weird to know you hated on it so much back in the day. When I first played it on ps2 I instantly wanted to play it again after finishing it. Absolutely adore this game. The environment alone is worth running around and exploring
It's a beautiful game, but I still wish they'de reimplemented some of the cut-colossi from the original game, that would have made the experience feel even more new. It's not like they didn't have concepts and models made and available to use.
Yeah they could have, this isn't just a remaster after all. It'd give me more of a reason to want a PS4 too, but I own the original game - if the only new stuff is coins and a few items I don't see the point in getting it again unless you're a graphics snob.
Shmandalf I'm not a graphics snob, and the original is definitely my favourite just for nostalgia reasons, but the remake is still beautiful imo

i have the original version and i did buy the ps4 just to play this remake, and i must say that it was absolutely worth it - not just the graphics, but as said in the video the overall ambience that was added just makes me lose my breath literally, i really recommend it.@@Shmandalf

I wasn't a fan of your original review of this game, I had felt that you didn't really understand what the game was trying to achieve. With that said I am glad you've come around on the game and have a better grasp of what makes it so special.

Am I the only one who thinks wanders face doesn't look that bad like it looks fine to me I played the ps2 and 3 versions of the game and I am in love with this remake. And 5 playthroughs? I did it three times to get max stats maybe it's because I didn't kill every lizard because if you only cut the tail they will come back and you can just keep farming them especially the one in the shrine.
Anyone else find it sort of funny how Jirard always begins his review with, "Welcome back to another brand new episode of The Completionist?" Brand new? As opposed to what exactly? An old rerun of The Completionist? Which is exactly what these episodes eventually become for us all during rewatches, and Jirard is still right there, telling us it's brand new! Lol

Glad you came back to this game. I just wanted to mention that Dormin's sword lets you see hidden goat paintings scattered through the map. Watch ps4trophies videos on those goat paintings.
Hey this reminded me, are we going to get an update on BOTW completion? They added hard mode, more story, and some other shit since your episode on it. lol

Hayden Wheatley if you played botw you would know that playing on master mode requires a separate save file which means he would have to start over to achieve 100%.
Nope, He ain't going to update it. Hard Mode sucks, Trials of the Sword sucks but the DLC Ballad of the Champions is really interesting.

You can only flip between 30fps and 60fps on the PS4 pro... probably should point that out in your video. The standard ps4 is locked to 1080p 30fps.

22neptun Much more sketch comedy back in the original episodes. That's why the episodes feel so different.
Much for the better, I think. The humor fell flat far too often and I've long felt that they were realizing that and it's to some degree why they had a falling out like that. There's nothing to prove that though so just a theory. I liked the show back then and it was good and all but watching them again I'm really glad they moved away from that style.

Honestly, the remake looks great graphically, but it doesn't do the feel of the original justice. The original felt more like "The Forbidden Lands", you felt like you were in this barren place where no one should cross, especially because of the lighting, with the bloom and the contrast between light and darkness, while the new one looks like Paragon, or some other game straining to look great. You can even compare it to The Last Guardian to see the difference, not in how good the graphics are, but the style of the game.

Was there maybe a difference in the PAL and NTFS versions of the game on PS2 and PS3? I live in Europe and I'm really sure you could remap the controls in both ICO and SotC, on both PS2 and PS3. But maybe you can't in the NTFS-version?

Glad the second time around was the charm for you, Jirard! And honestly, with these games it's the narrative and emotional impacts of the game that I would consider the important points to experience regardless.
Kudos for getting through all those shenanigans and setting your personal completion record straight though! It's ah...definitely not a task to pursue lightly. Or that I would even seriously consider pursuing, myself. @_@

Some people just never poke around in the game settings, and assume you can't change certain options.
Does the PS3 version have it as well?

Triangle is jump in ico and sotc. Thats how it just is and it works that way. Its really not that hard to adapt to different control schemes from old ps2 games.
hhheeeccckkk526 all sorts of games have different controls it really bothers me that people cant learn how to play other games.
I played this one game, Balder's Gate Dark Alliance, and the jump was in fact Triangle.

Wander looks absolutely wonderful in the remake. I do wish he showed just a little more emotion like in the original, but as for his face, it's perfection to me :)

Holy shit he pronounced Ico correctly...
He really didn't. Its ee-co. Devs pronounced it that way, and hell, even Yorda says it. If you wanna test it for yourself.... (You'll need either the PAL version on PS2, or the PS3.) She says it if you try to ignore the two box button puzzle, and at a part near the waterfall if you try to get her to jump across a ledge.
Man, just on the visuals of the world alone I might consider getting this game. Never seemed like something too interesting to me, though I knew of it's reputation. But man, it looks gorgeous in the remake! Great video Sir Jirard - as always :)
I still remember how much this game blew my mind when I first seen it on ps2. I didn't get a chance to play it that day, but I didn't mind watching. It was just like watching a movie.

I never played SotC when it first released. Had no idea it existed until 2010. When I started collecting for my PS2, it was one of the first games I got for it. Holy crap! I LOVE this game! The PS2 controls a little wonky, but I get used to it pretty quickly. This has become my second favorite game ever made.
Who else also completes all their games 100%!!! (Except pokemon... level 100 on all is ridictulous, but i catch em all.) I got a challenge for someone who is brave enough... i just 100% completed Mario Kart: Super Circuit... try if you dare. (3 star ranking all cups.) Stay completing friends.

You don't need to reach 100 on all Pokemon. And it's pretty much impossible at this point to do a completion of older games(gen 5 and below) anymore, due to the events being ended.

Yes a lot are very hard to complete, someones 100% is a little different than someone elses100%. I usually do everything in the game at least once and complete hardest difficulty or get highest rating, or max a character out and do every quest and evefy collectible. Somethings are BS like Pokemon lvl 100 or beat the game with every character on hardest difficulty on street fighter/mortal combat. Im not THAT hardcore as i consider it done with just 1 character... but others argue otherwise. Guess it depends on who......backloggery dot c.om helps track all games u got and you can mark down what you have completed.. or just finished.. or unplayed. Its what i use..... stay completing my friends.

When I played this game on PS2 for the first time, the colossi that actively tried to kill you were the two miniature four legged ones. One of which I kept dying to so much I looked up how to take it down. There might have been others, but those ones stick out for me considering how much I hated fighting them.
I played with the original controls I find the comfortable. Also I really enjoyed your review. I am glad you did this.

It's extremely easy to find for an emulator if you don't own it (which is why I imagine youonly played a few mins).

I played the PS4 remake in college and my roommate was watching and when what happened to Argo near the end, well, he started crying. He was so happy when it didn’t end like that.
