Actually the zelda commercial would work perfectly for breath of the wild...You spend half the game climbing up mountain. And then lighting strike you.
Just played and beat this for the first time on switch and its insane to me how well this game has help up 30 years later. I mean the game has fast travel for god sake its insane. Honestly I loved playing it more than I do a lot of modern games.
For those who didn't grow up with it, it's a bit of a pain to play. Particularly the shield and menus just made me want to go back to Link's Awakening or the Oracle games.
I played the GameBoy Advance port of A Link to the Past when I was young, barely about 7 at the time when I first got it. I honestly didn't know at that time that it was a port, just a new game to play. As I played my way through each dungeon and every part of the map, I didn't even notice how much time had passed. I was enthralled with the look and feel of the game and aimed to collect all of the heart pieces and heart containers. In the end, I managed to get all the upgrades to my sword, shield, all of the heart pieces and heart containers, and I beat the final boss. And funnily enough, that was the only time I managed to do all of that. Even though it's an older title, whenever I go back and play A Link to the Past I'm always revitalized with just how polished everything looks and how well the game plays. Because of my love for it as a kid and the fond memories I have from playing it, A Link to the Past is irrefutably my favorite Legend of Zelda game from the franchise. This review was amazing Jirard and really did the game justice. Thank you for reviewing it again and have an awesome day! ^^
I would say consoder yourself lucky.. for those of us that got to play the game of it being new and before internet walkthroughs and all of that its such a masterpiece.. nice that the gba port helped even more people experience that
As someone who is the ages 10-20 and watching this video, a while ago I booted up the SNES classic I have, and I started playing it, and I just ADORE this game, It has so much charm and color! I was never a big Zelda fan but this, BotW, and OoT really made me realize what I’ve been missing out on all these years! But my overall opinion on this game is that it’s great!
Man, these New Game plus reviews are amazing. It's been so entertaining to remember where you started and where you are now Jirard. I've been a fan of your content since near the beginning, and I want to say thank you for working so hard for us. You're an absolute genuine person
Well, it's technically true. Had Super Mario Bros and the NES not been so successful all the way back in 1985, video games would look very different today.
@@007robotchicken They are saving the video game industry right now. Most of their games don't have micro transactions except for the cross platform games. They put their game out and charge you what its worth
My absolute most favorite game! I first played this game when I was a young child before being able to read. Back then, I figured out how to get through the game entirely by trial and error since I couldn't read any hints. It took a while, but I remember having a blast the whole time. Great to see this one back in your repertoire!
"Every tree is crafted in a loving way"? They are literally copy pasted LOL Don't mean that in a bad way... I doubt there were much room (memory space-wise) to make every tree look different. Damn, I loved playing this game when I was 13-14. Played it a year or so after it came out, and me and my friend spent so much time in it! Love it
You know what though? The way the trees fuse into each other when overlapping is actually pretty impressive for those SNES sprite based days. Kudos to them for going that extra mile instead of just making them sit identically side by side.
@Rebard Prower. Yeah I get it. My comment was mostly supposed to be funny, and not taken so seriously :) Love the design of the game, and I really think it is charming.
Hands down, my favorite game of all time. My dad bought the game when it came out, and I’m so glad he did. Idk how many times I’ve played it. I even got the SNES classic edition just to play the game like back in the day
crimsonking440 the sequels are really fun too, especially since you can import the save from the first game to the second, I have my concerns with the 3rd game, but it was fun enough that I played through it twice to 100%
I asked him in a stream a few weeks ago. He said he's heard a lot of really good things about the series, and he might check them out at some point. Nothing definite, but it's a possibility. Also, TLA > TBS. >.>
It's heart warming, even for people like me who are cold and dead inside, to see Jirard talk about games like when he's truly passionate about them, he's so happy and it's great.
It was my love of watching my brothers play "A Link to the past," that brought me to tears playing "A link between worlds," and hearing that iconic opening remastered.
I was 10 years old when LTTP came out. I had saved my allowance for months for it and I remember being so excited about getting it that I had my ride home from school drop me off at Sears department store. They ended up not having the game yet so I had to walk miles to Software Etc at the local mall. Thankfully they had it but now I was a over an hour walk away from home. My excitement somehow got me thru the long walk back. By the time I got home it was after dark , I was hungry, exhausted and didn't have much time to play before bedtime so I was pretty bummed. But once I popped that cartridge in and played that opening sequence, all that didn't matter anymore. It was the best game I had ever played up until that point, beating out my old favorite the original Zelda. Whenever I play it I always remember that first release day craziness.
INSTANT like for this being your favorite Zelda title. I was born in '93, my mom played and beat this while she was pregnant with me. My first memories were playing this game. Sure that may make me a little biased, but this game set a standard. So many elements that are staples in the Zelda series came from this game. The Master Sword, Zora's Domain, countless dungeon elements, Hyrule Castle, The ocarina(flute). The soundtrack is a masterpiece for this era of gaming. And I mean the GRAPHICS! Just the animations and graphics of going in and out of doors alone were just so visually appealing and felt so fluid. And the dungeons... Oh my goodness the dungeons are amazing. I loved the tiles in front of the door to the bosses to let you know it was the boss room. From all the big things to the little, from left to right, all down to the pixel, I love this freaking game. I feel like an old lady describing how things were back in her time. Help me...
I actually loved the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time, but hated the Great Bay Temple in Majora's Mask. I also REALLY HATE the Ice Cavern in Ocarina of Time. I just do NOT like it. It's unappealing, it's tedious, it's flat out boring, and OH MY GOSH, the music's SO depressing. My opinions of course.
Link to the Past is my favorite video game of all time and Jirard, I can't thank you enough for reviewing it (again). I wish you the best of luck for the future and keep up the amazing work! :D
I remember playing this as a kid. An absolute wonderful adventure. I thought that getting all of the amulets would be it. Finding your way in the woods and finding the master-sword, what a magical moment. Storm the castle, defeat the sorcerer and rescue the princess! But oh no, that's only the tutorial. The dark world was so scary as a kid. "Wait what?! I'm not done!? Why am I on this creepy pyramid? What are all those scary monsters?! They're so much more powerful! How do I get home!?" When you didn't know beforehand, it was a plottwist done right. A twisted, new world to discover. So exciting to visit the places you knew in the light world, now totally changed but still somewhat the same. Much more dungeons, much more items and much more challenges! Man... Now I wanna play it again.
I have played this too many times to still enjoy it. I admire your ability to continue to enjoy this game so much when you've played it far more than me.
A Link to the Past remains as phenomenal as ever. It holds up incredibly well similarly to Super Metroid and Super Mario World. It remains my 3rd favorite Zelda game to this day only after Ocarina of Time and A Link Between Worlds.
If you love A Link To The Past so much, you might be interested to note that there was a Japan exclusive sequel to A Link To The Past, Decades before A Link Between Worlds. It's Called "BS The Legend of Zelda, Ancient Stone Tablets" and it was for the Satelaview addon for the Super Famicom.
Man, Jirard, I know it might have come about under bad circumstances, but I'm really happy that you're doing New Game Plus on all of your older game reviews. Seeing you review these games with a new perspective and much more experience is really cool! I actually think I look forward to New Game Plus more than the regular episodes. Can't wait to see more of them! Especially Kingdom Hearts! Keep it up!
This game was probably the best Christmas present I ever received. It was my first Zelda, and is still my favorite. I remember not wanting to leave my room for a couple weeks just so I could keep playing it. The songs still randomly get stuck in my head. This and Super Mario RPG are tied as my favorite games of my childhood.
My 5 favorite Zelda games are 1st.Ocarina of Time: cuz its ocarina of time 2nd.Twilight Princess (GameCube): its hard and challenging plus the good characters plus the great music 3rd.(plz don't kill me) Spirit Tracks:it's the first Zelda game I played and for me it's the hardest 4th.Breath of the Wild:its great , its gigantic (the world) and its hard as F*** to complete it 5th. Windwaker : I like the cartoony graphics they look great plus I like the puzzles
I'm just glad that this channel exists! It definitely gives me something to listen to while I'm grinding for FFIIV before I fight Sephiroth or waiting for all the other Chocobos to catch up to me in the races. I'm just glad I don't have to listen to the droning music in the game and I instead have the pleasure of listening to this! Thanks Jirard and everyone at the completionist channel!
Watching Andy speedrun this game (with any criteria, in any of its iterations) is a sight to behold. I am excellent at A Link to the Past, and since about 1993, I've been able to tell you where every heart piece is and tell you every room in every dungeon. I still 100% about twice a year, and I'm elite. Andy makes me look like my mother trying to play Super Mario Bros 3 for the first time back in 1990.
This game have my longest playing session record, which is 13 hours in a row, that´s where I did the 000 run meaning no save and no death, so I had to play it super carefully, but I did it. And you can´t save because this game counts save and quit as death. Now I probably could do that faster but back in the day it took 13 hours to do.
Gotta call you out a bit on the history lesson, Jirard. The crash of '83 was caused mainly by shovelware from greedy companies due to lack of quality control and home computers becoming more affordable but seen as educational and so more valuable.
This is by far the worst completionist review so far. I spent the whole episode trying not to cry from the nostalgia waves these musics and images brought to my mind ಥ﹏ಥ
I’ve just started creating content, and I was actually looking to see what content has been produced on this game so far……then I found myself watching the whole of this video, purely based on the passion I could feel you have for this game, which was very relatable, as this is the game that started all gaming for me in my life, and much like you, I spent hours and hours playing it. It blew my mind. Anyway, I watched this video to the end, it was a great video, you deserve the props you clearly get 👍🏻
This game was incredible man. I remember playing this game as a kid and being stumped at certain moments. I sat there for hours trying to figure everything out. Finally getting everything done was so satisfying. Such a classic.
I hear the next Labo add-on will be cardboard dumbells and stalks of broccoli. "Working Out Regularly and Eating my Vegetables Simulator," coming in Winter 2019. Jokes aside, this was a great review to wake up to, Jirard! Your passion for what you do is nothing short of inspiring ^_^
Thing of note, Jirard. Vitrious wasn't referenced in a future game. The eyeball you showed was actually Digdogger from Oracle of Seasons which featured all of the bosses from original Zelda.
And a lot of the other Eyeball enemies have been more memorable. Digdogger got at least 2 appearances and was memorable for me in the past because I could not figure out how to beat him (because I didn't have the Recorder) Then there's Wart from Majora's Mask who is more like Arghus from the Swamp Palance for being somewhat difficult as I remembered.
Let's not be unfair with the graphics comparisons with Ocarina of Time here. Yes, cartoony graphics (especially well done sprites) hold up better than 3D models, but you are also playing this on some kind of emulator, probably the SNES Classic. If you recorded this from an SNES it wouldn't even look nearly as good. N64 games upscaled on emulator look leagues better than they do in the actual console too. Overall, the emulated SNES games are gonna look better due to the art style, but I just wanted to make that point.
He is most likely playing on an emulator, my guess is the SNES Classic. The image is way too sharp for being from the actual console, even through something like a framemeister
AndresLionheart -- That's what I was thinking... He's trying to compare a 2D to a 3D based on visuals. What? OoT isn't even my favorite Zelda game, but I know that comparison is a bit of a stretch since we moved on from the N64 capabilities. Of course, it's going to look a little dated. But if we're going to compare it within the time it came out, I think just about everyone would have favored the 3D model since it was then first you could play as Link in 3D space.
"Just like all 2D Zeldas it starts with a top-down..." Poor Zelda 2. Even if it is bad, all it wants is to be fun and earn your love Jirard. Why do you ignore it (After already talking about it in the same video)?
Seriously when you played the sounds bits asking what you think of when you hear "Zelda" I got goosebumps. Only game to seriously make my whole body react. Thanks!
0:32 The NES and all that back in the day was only $99.99? 5:47 That's a dude? Honestly thought that was a woman in that Link costume XD 9:50 I like how it says Sonic 3 and Knuckles. 13:33 It is as old as me. 17:55 Same. Did that with the GBA game since it was the first one of this I got to play. 20:06 Somehow I am not surprised after what I saw you did with Dark Souls 3.
Jirard. I really REALLY love seeing how many hours it took you to beat these games to 100% completion. The other cutesy little stats are cool, but the total time spent playing each game really stands out to me.
This game is one of the first games I look to when I want to play something challenging, but fun. It's one of the best Zelda games in existence for a reason. Loved the new review Jirard!
So when Nintendo makes a good game series, has one bad game they go back to the formula that made it good? Hmmmmm..... *whispers* if only it didn't take Sega 10 years to follow this example
@@HardcoreGamer4Ever yep, but of course pleasing the fans is also important. I love that they aren't afraid to experiment with their powerful IPs. Some would fear tainting the brand, but I feel like each time the experiment and Branch out it only seems to strengthen their IPs
If i had to name one game from my childhood that defined my undying love for video games it would be A Link to the Past. Almost everything about it was perfection at that point in time, and it still holds up both in visuals and gameplay more than 26 years later.
What an amazing game. It always reminds me of being outside and exploring as a kid, which is exactly what Shigeru Miyamoto was going for when he made it.
Why would anyone fight you? You said "My favorite" meaning it's an opinion. Least your not spreading that shit around like Gospel like the Ocarina Nostalgia 'tards. Oh shit, now fight *me* fanboys!!
I 100% agree! Although I did play the first two LoZ games on my NES, it wasn't until A Link To the Past came out that I really became a fan of the series. It will probably always be my favorite game in the series and favorite game overall.
you got shouted out in the most recent neebs gaming video (the coffee commercial), so here i am. subbed and gonna watch through some videos. DON'T YOU LET ME DOWN, COMPLETIONIST!
If you had to come up with the next Legend of Zelda game, what would you title it?
I guess I would call it The Legend of Zelda:The Rays of Hope
The Legend of Link: Zelda's quest
The Legend of Zelda: The Lost Oracle
The Completionist
The Legend of Zelda: Save Us
The Completionist legend of Zelda, the lost hero
Actually the zelda commercial would work perfectly for breath of the wild...You spend half the game climbing up mountain. And then lighting strike you.
“Someday I’m gonna get myself some magic boots!” No Jirard, you only have Normal Boots.
LMAOOO

Jirard wasn't kidding when he said he couldn't remain unbiased. This isn't so much a review as it is a gushing spree of pure feels and nostalgia.
Link to the Past is the one game that I consistently replay every couple of years. I've probably replayed it a dozen times. It's just that good.
I love the simplicity of A Link to the Past. There's not an awful lot you have to do to 100% it, and for the most part nothing feels out of the way.
Just played and beat this for the first time on switch and its insane to me how well this game has help up 30 years later. I mean the game has fast travel for god sake its insane. Honestly I loved playing it more than I do a lot of modern games.
Link to the Past still holds up as one of the best games of all times!
Truly a masterpiece!
That won't get you up there

I think he just meant that their design in general is inspired. They made them look pretty distinct.
I had the same thought, though I don't think he was referring to each tree being unique so much as their design being generally charming.

"When I say 'Zelda' to you, what song comes to your mind?"
Funny, none of those are the Dark World theme.
I only think of Sarias song in OOT and Wind Wakers intro song
The Hyrule Field Theme
The original zelda overworld

It definitely gives me something to listen to while I'm grinding for FFIIV before I fight Sephiroth or waiting for all the other Chocobos to catch up to me in the races. I'm just glad I don't have to listen to the droning music in the game and I instead have the pleasure of listening to this! Thanks Jirard and everyone at the completionist channel!
The Legend of Zelda: A MYWIFE to the Past

You go boy!!
Superhero Game Squad I subscribed to your channel and can you subscribe me back plz
I know it's weird to feel nostalgic about a RUclips show, but I've been watching this for so long I love how nostalgic new game plus makes me feel
Anyway, I watched this video to the end, it was a great video, you deserve the props you clearly get 👍🏻
CAUGHT YOU LACKIN BOY. NOBODY ever had to blow in SNES carts. Only NES. SNES never had the same pin connection issues as NES.
This game was incredible man. I remember playing this game as a kid and being stumped at certain moments. I sat there for hours trying to figure everything out. Finally getting everything done was so satisfying. Such a classic.
3:24 There is a single frame that shows Mario 3
I hear the next Labo add-on will be cardboard dumbells and stalks of broccoli. "Working Out Regularly and Eating my Vegetables Simulator," coming in Winter 2019.
Jokes aside, this was a great review to wake up to, Jirard! Your passion for what you do is nothing short of inspiring ^_^
Thing of note, Jirard. Vitrious wasn't referenced in a future game.
The eyeball you showed was actually Digdogger from Oracle of Seasons which featured all of the bosses from original Zelda.
Vitreous was pretty much the worst example he could have chosen. Didn't even get a reimagining in a link between worlds
And a lot of the other Eyeball enemies have been more memorable.
Digdogger got at least 2 appearances and was memorable for me in the past because I could not figure out how to beat him (because I didn't have the Recorder)
Then there's Wart from Majora's Mask who is more like Arghus from the Swamp Palance for being somewhat difficult as I remembered.
At 13:52, does Level-3 always look like a swastika or was there more map to fill…? Never played the game. Apologies if so. Curious if not.
Are you talking about the conveyor belts?
Let's not be unfair with the graphics comparisons with Ocarina of Time here. Yes, cartoony graphics (especially well done sprites) hold up better than 3D models, but you are also playing this on some kind of emulator, probably the SNES Classic. If you recorded this from an SNES it wouldn't even look nearly as good. N64 games upscaled on emulator look leagues better than they do in the actual console too.
Overall, the emulated SNES games are gonna look better due to the art style, but I just wanted to make that point.
AndresLionheart Also OoT3D looks pretty good.
Yeah, I played Majora's Mask a little bit ago on an emulator, and it looked way better than on the actual console
AndresLionheart I doubt he's playing on an emulator.
Fantastic video as always homie! Easily one of my favorite games of all time and hearing your passion for it echoes exactly how I feel too.
LINK TO THE PAST IS AN SNES GAME?? I always had the idea that it was a DS game cuz of how it looked
This comment makes me feel so old.
You thought it was a ds game.? It being on SNES is common knowledge. And also, the game looks good, but like a ds game
It’s not on the ds though
I am so grateful that the ONLY zelda game I played as a kid and before BOTW was this game. Thank you Jirard.
"Just like all 2D Zeldas it starts with a top-down..."
Poor Zelda 2. Even if it is bad, all it wants is to be fun and earn your love Jirard. Why do you ignore it (After already talking about it in the same video)?
"You have beloved three Zelda games and Zelda II!"
Scott the Woz talking about the zelda collection on the gamecube
This game is my favorite and the first one I ever completed! I'm so glad this was revisited and it still holds up to modern times. :)
but weren't there like a billion items in zelda cdi 2
Seriously when you played the sounds bits asking what you think of when you hear "Zelda" I got goosebumps. Only game to seriously make my whole body react. Thanks!
in the dark realm, *MY WIFE* becomes a bunny
Seeing you replay these games makes me want to replay my childhood games...man 20+ years ago me was a patient gamer hahaha but a skilled one at that.
0:32 The NES and all that back in the day was only $99.99?
5:47 That's a dude? Honestly thought that was a woman in that Link costume XD
9:50 I like how it says Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
13:33 It is as old as me.
17:55 Same. Did that with the GBA game since it was the first one of this I got to play.
20:06 Somehow I am not surprised after what I saw you did with Dark Souls 3.
Kratos Aurion Plays Yeah, it was "99$", but that's not adjusted for inflation. It would equal out to a pretty modern price.
Eh, only about $225, actually. Still relatively cheap.
Adjusted for inflation or $225 either way that's not bad considering the things I have heard about the price of gaming back then.
Kratos Aurion Plays Oh definitely. Nintendo saved the industry by making their system affordable
Jirard. I really REALLY love seeing how many hours it took you to beat these games to 100% completion. The other cutesy little stats are cool, but the total time spent playing each game really stands out to me.
Next New Game + Could you do Banjo Kazooie
CaptainWolke it’s gonna be Super Metroid. Sorry.
But beard man!
Zelda II actually isn't bad. ALTTP is certainly superior though. But I actually like Zelda II more than the original.
@@HardcoreGamer4Ever yep, but of course pleasing the fans is also important. I love that they aren't afraid to experiment with their powerful IPs. Some would fear tainting the brand, but I feel like each time the experiment and Branch out it only seems to strengthen their IPs
this episode did not disappoint! Good job!
Ok so sonic forces is next judging by ghost town in the beggining
If i had to name one game from my childhood that defined my undying love for video games it would be A Link to the Past. Almost everything about it was perfection at that point in time, and it still holds up both in visuals and gameplay more than 26 years later.
Oh man they put the sword in his left hand. They got it right.
What an amazing game. It always reminds me of being outside and exploring as a kid, which is exactly what Shigeru Miyamoto was going for when he made it.
The Legend Of Zelda: Wind From The South, and the signature weapon is a fart gun.
found an old comment this time
This is my first time watching a new game plus video, man that opening is epic. Good memories.
My favorite Zelda Game. Fight me!
No legend of link
I prefer link between world's.
Beer By The Numbers Mine too
I get the feeling that nobody's going to fight you on that. Lol
Why would anyone fight you? You said "My favorite" meaning it's an opinion. Least your not spreading that shit around like Gospel like the Ocarina Nostalgia 'tards. Oh shit, now fight *me* fanboys!!
ALMOST A MILLION SUBS YOYOW GOOD ONE JERARD!
*Crash in the USA. Not Europe or Japan.
If its not about Merica, it ain't relevant. That is just how they think.
He never said it was in the eu or jp
Rita Cocco maybe that how you heard it but im pretty sure thats not how it was meant
Rin I don't know if you know this or not but an industry crash in the US has far reaching consequences
He's American, so he's going to talk about America. If you're European, you're going to talk about Europe. That's how it is.
I 100% agree! Although I did play the first two LoZ games on my NES, it wasn't until A Link To the Past came out that I really became a fan of the series. It will probably always be my favorite game in the series and favorite game overall.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the GBA version which does have a bonus dungeon.
like almost every remake its always forgotten/hated
Not only that but you can unlock the hurricane spin :)
Zacsolo Gaming Except resident evil remake.
''like almost''
The best things about these videos are they are about the history of the game itself, they are reviews and they are about completing the games.
MYWIFE
HA! That Zelda commercial obviously took a nod from the USMC commercials running at the time!
Huh, oh yeah, Zelda. That series with all those games in it.
DAMMIT MAN DO A SKYWARD SWORD EPISODE ALREADY
you got shouted out in the most recent neebs gaming video (the coffee commercial), so here i am. subbed and gonna watch through some videos. DON'T YOU LET ME DOWN, COMPLETIONIST!
