It because it’s so much harder to innovate. In 1995 most games were still pixel games and we were just tapping into the possibility of 3D games. 10 years later we would get games like Shadow of the Colossus, Ultimate Destruction and God of War. Look at games from 2013 and now. The evolution of games stagnated significantly because “what do you do that hasn’t been done?”

The point is that it's fully possible for a spiritual successor to come out today and be just as special. It would be a very, very tall order, but it's possible.
The most wild part of the game, and the story at large, is that the demon didn't lie or cheat, it only took full control after wander died. He didn't even see his girl get up, and she was still brought back after being resealed.

I was only 6 years old when this game released. Too young to comprehend its artistic value. My uncle used to play and I’d watch him in awe. But everything was “scary” back then so I don’t remember actually picking it up to play. Still good times. Nostalgia fr..
Honestly the best game from my childhood, I played it for hours on end with my sister and we would take turns on bosses to the point we decided to turn the difficulty up to make it harder. Then started putting challenges on ourselves and then doing one life runs. This game was truly ahead of its time and knowing that others are currently making more for this game and adding more Collasi to the game is all the more better.
A Shadow of Colossus movie made and shot like this game. It would be incredible. No stupid "Funny" character(s) to ruin it. Just Art. I'll help crowd fund it. I'll start writing the script immediately.
A miniseries with one episode devoted to each colossus, just the quiet cycle of traversing a mostly empty yet majestic landscape, the initial terror of the new colossus, and the struggle to bring it down. No need to expand anything, no telling us who the girl is to him or anything like that. I would pay so much money to see that with good casting and special effects
I have had this game for every single console that it's come out for. This game is so ridiculously good and just reminds me of childhood. The music, the art, the story is all perfect and I now have a constant reminder on my arm in the form of the sigil on Wanders cloak, as well as the sigil showing the Colossi's weakspots. Thanks for the video Kev

Best OST ever? Well let's see...the CD soundtrack has remained in print for 18 years & counting. I don't think any other game soundtrack ever has stayed in print that long. Obviously there has been a continued demand for this soundtrack as more people discover the game & it's music. In an age where everything is streamed & available free for the most part, the fact this soundtrack can still sell in physical form all these years really says something. Conclusion...YES!
To this day still one of my top ten favorite videogames of all time. Sends chills down my spine playing. One of only two videogames to ever make me cry.
This game didn't make me cry but...that one thing that happens during the 2nd half of the ending cut scene (I won't spoil it) did make my eyes get watery. The only game so far to actually make me cry was "The Last Guardian" (although the final scene with Luis in the RE4 remake did get to me). Fumito Ueda has a way of making you feel very attached to a character without bashing you over the head with some heavy-handed complex story. Let's hope that continues with his 4th game.
A “colossal” Classic man! What’s crazy is that sonic frontier imitates this game style(well sort of). However it makes the bosses 10x more crazy with supersonic lol 😂. Hey Kevduit you should try it out!!

Fun fact. This game originally came out on the PS2 AND it was originally going to have 48 bosses then it was shrunk down to like 20 something. 8 of them got cancelled but quite a few still have their models leftover in the E3 demo which we can’t access their arenas in. They even left the arenas in without the colossi. They forgot to remove their arenas. To fully beat this game you must beat it like 5 times.
I remember having to wait my turn to play this game at a friend's house. His brother played first. Then his sister. Then dad. Then my friend and then finally my turn. We each played and completed it alone at his house. His mom brought snacks, meals and hydration throughout.
I love this game so much! It's so beautifully made and the story telling is magnificent. You can really tell that this game was not made just to try and rake in money like a lot of titles we see nowadays, this was pure passion. The only thing I don't like with the game is that I find it really sad. The collosi are all just living their lives doing their own things and won't even attack unless provoced; and we just get tricked and slaughter them all, killing every single one of the fantastical creatures.
That was the whole point behind the story. Wander sacrifices himself and an entire world of ancient creatures to save one person. Was it all worth it? He thought so. There is no happy ending, and you aren't really a hero. He also wasn't tricked: He realized after he killed the first colossus that completing his mission would kill him. This is shown by the extreme amount of pain he's in after each defeat. He still goes through with it by choice.
According to interviews with the director of the game, he wanted the focus to be on Wander and Mono, he never intended for the colossus being killed as the main focus of the story. This kinda didn’t pan out because of his minimalist design philosophy and the fact that Mono is dead so we can’t really relate to her. He has gone on record to say he was disappointed to the reception the game got where majority of fans focused on the colossi.
this is so nostalgic, the game i played more than any other in the ps2 even though i stopped in the 14º colossus because i didn't know how to kill it and didn't had internet to search how,i still remember that i spent more time exploring and killing the lizards to gain stamina to reach the Secret Garden than in the actual colossus battles I only saw the end of the game 5 or 6 years after I had already stopped playing the only game i remember playing as much as shadow of the colossus was Burnout 3: Takedown
Can't remember the number, but the Avion Colossus is a great example of everything amazing about this game. It shows off the wind and water physics, the use of both weapons, your character getting flung around, and needing to basically use a giant flying beast as a platform to walk on. There's A LOT going on there for an almost 20 YO game and it's very impressive.
This is like, the only game ive ever fully obsessed over. I couldnt tell you what I got for my last birthday but if someone asked me ANYTHING about this game I would definitely have an answer
Love this video! So happy you played one of my favorite (and possibly one of the best) games I've ever played. Can you continue with team Ico games and play "The Last Guardian"? my favorite game.
I remember about 5 years ago buying this game from a used game store for the original PS2. This video makes me nostalgic wishing I could play this when it was fresh.
One of, if not my favorite game! The satisfaction in getting a full hit and finishing the fight, followed directly by the guilt of the gorgeous music?! Making you realize you just killed this BIG beast for what? To progress? Just a beautiful game that I absolutely adore.
Played games from atari to now and this game always stuck with me. No minions to fight just these titanic gods you must hunt down climb and fell to remove a curse from a loved one. The gradual poisoning from killing them makes you feel like you are doing something wrong but it doesn't matter to our hero. He must save her. Classic story one of the best
I knew exactly how it was gonna end when you mentioned the air assassination, didn't stop me from laughing though. Great video Kev keep up the amazing work 👏💯
I played this game back in PS2 and it's the first game I bought for my PS3. This is my first time seeing this game in 60fps 1080p and it feels like that time when I first got my spectacles
The Lizards and Fruits mechanic was pretty interesting, now that I look back on it. Want a (tiny) stamina boost without killing a colossus? Go to one of the smaller watchtowers and look for the shiny-tailed lizard. Kill it and eat it’s tail. Want a (tiny) health boost? Look for one of the fruit trees which are very distinct in shape, shoot the fruits to knock them out of the tree and eat them. (about 4-6 fruits per tree)
This game was such a big part of my growing up. I bought it maybe 2-3 years after it came out and it has set the benchmark for me for games. I feel it was never appreciated as much as it deserved and was overshadowed by the other series that were springing up around it. I always swear by it and have tried to convince many people to play it. I hate that there aren't more games like this, but if there were more games like this then it wouldn't be so special.

@@Vyesnaa you're right, especially considering Team Ico's been dead and gone for over a decade. Unless Sony somehow saved the source code and really wanted to pay another team to make the port, it's effectively gone for good. The only "real" way to experience it fully is to find a console and a copy of the disc in good shape. It's almost ironic: The game about killing off what's special in the world for short-term gain itself became a part of history, enjoyed by many for its beauty. If Sony weren't so goddamn greedy, they could've ported it 10+ years ago. Now it's too late.

I remember the first time I bought and booted up the game on my ps2... I was like " where are the enemies I got scammed" lmao If only I knew, this is one of THOSE games, a cult classic... we are a very large cult tho, but yeah one my favorite games ever
The amount of times I fell off of the platform for the third one amazes me that I still continued to defeat it... Then I got to the fourth one and that's where I chickened out of the game. I had already watched my dad play it when I was little, but middle school me had really wanted to try and beat it myself. As most things do nowadays, this game makes me feel old. (I'm only turning 23 this year.)

He has gone on record to say he was disappointed to the reception the game got where majority of fans focused on the colossi.
I played this when it came out. It was the most amazing game I had played at the time. I was very fond of ICO too.
I'm still waiting on BluePoint Games to Remake Ico.
this is so nostalgic, the game i played more than any other in the ps2
even though i stopped in the 14º colossus because i didn't know how to kill it and didn't had internet to search how,i still remember that i spent more time exploring and killing the lizards to gain stamina to reach the Secret Garden than in the actual colossus battles
I only saw the end of the game 5 or 6 years after I had already stopped playing
the only game i remember playing as much as shadow of the colossus was Burnout 3: Takedown
Which one was 14? Was it a doggo?
@@DamnDaimen maybe?
If it's the little one that you have to make hit some pillars
"Losing" Agro is still the saddest I've ever been in my life.
As he pointed the way with the sword - I waited 15min for the punch line 'I HAVE THE POWER' 😂 from He-Man
This is like, the only game ive ever fully obsessed over. I couldnt tell you what I got for my last birthday but if someone asked me ANYTHING about this game I would definitely have an answer
exactly i've been obsessed with this game trying to find out secrets anything else
This game looks so cool and cinematic! I have never seen a game like this!
In my opinion, possibly the very best game made. There was a mystique in this game that other games come close to but never hit me the same way.
i'm gonna need you to finish this one
Throughout the entire game I'm thinking "Why are we killing these peaceful creatures?". Then, at the end, I knew. Because we're the bad guy.
dude i need to see a part 2
Hope your enjoying it
Love this video! So happy you played one of my favorite (and possibly one of the best) games I've ever played. Can you continue with team Ico games and play "The Last Guardian"? my favorite game.
10:46 You should see Dirge's game over screen from the original.
Please make this a series, it’s so cool and I love your commentary
I love this game on the ps2
Glad you played my favorite game finally
“There’s so much oil. What are you made of, America?”
“Omg that didn’t kill me did it?
*dead* “😂💀
They need a remake and a part 2. Beautiful game.
this has and will forever be my favorite game since i first played it back on my friends ps3 in 2012
All time favorite game. I wouldn't be the same without my playthroughs and recollections of the concept, world, and soundtrack especially.
For me who was used to competitive fps and fighting games, this game was a change much needed, lol love this game
honestly, an underrated masterpiece, up there with the likes of monster hunter, gta, minecraft, and the souls games
9:55 “Reveal! Revelio”. Nah bro that was perfect 💀😂
God that was Nostalgic PART 2 PLEASE I NEED TO SEE YOUR REACTION THE THE SKY SNAKE.
I remember about 5 years ago buying this game from a used game store for the original PS2. This video makes me nostalgic wishing I could play this when it was fresh.
15:00 its beardy from conkers bad fur day
One of, if not my favorite game! The satisfaction in getting a full hit and finishing the fight, followed directly by the guilt of the gorgeous music?! Making you realize you just killed this BIG beast for what? To progress? Just a beautiful game that I absolutely adore.
General rule of thumb in gaming: if it's from the 2000s, then it's amazing!
(about 4-6 fruits per tree)
one of the many games ive played that changed my whole perspective on video games and the kind of games i choose to play.
That last part got me lol 10/10
This game was such a big part of my growing up. I bought it maybe 2-3 years after it came out and it has set the benchmark for me for games. I feel it was never appreciated as much as it deserved and was overshadowed by the other series that were springing up around it. I always swear by it and have tried to convince many people to play it. I hate that there aren't more games like this, but if there were more games like this then it wouldn't be so special.
Would help if it wasn't locked to PlayStation
That's the only thing stopping me from playing g the .latest remaster
I don't want to buy a crappy console again and Sony are one of the most anti consumer companies to ever live and truly hate the players they claim to be for
@@THEBUGSAREBACCCCKKKKKKKKKK if ya have a pc try to play even a ROM. The graphics are dated sure but it’s just a great.
@@Vyesnaa sadly it's not easy to emulate and it's not a perfect experience. It really does deserve a proper pc port.
@@Hawk7886 I would love nothing more than to see SotC be on pc. But it’s been almost 20 years since the release and I don’t see them doing it nowadays unfortunately. But we can always dream
At this point I just know that a game is going to get recognition again when I start playing it again. Kinda creepy💀
Kev: Prepare yourself, beast!
*watches him die*
Colossus: Dont have to.
this vid has made me want to try this game again... love it
As a kid I beat the first colossus.. then I saw the statue of one that looked like a snake, got scared, and never played again
*mfw Kevin almost died to the VERY FIRST COLOSSUS.*
He plays on the hardest dif
I've been playing Shadow of the Colossus, and it feels like Nier Replicant/Gestalt without a functioning map.
That jump down assassination was epic
Played this game 3 times, ps2, ps3, and ps4 remake. Fantastic game each time...buy got to admit I was almost breaking doing hard mode time attack for the third time.
I haven't played this game in years. But me and my lil brother used to love it. As a kid, I don't think I ever beat the third Colossus. It was rare for me to even beat the first and second. But we still loved this game so much. There really wasn't anything like it.
Perfect ending!
That ending was awesome lol need part 2!

Lol you don't get in, he gets out
Looking forward to the rest of the playthrough!
I'm so glad I found this video. I got it on my new ps5 and its so fun.
Congrats on 1 million subs!
