  • We all love the concept of a Campervan - a mini house on wheels you can park anywhere and drive anywhere but in reality actually how comfy are the beds? It's an important question we get asked all the time so this week we demonstrate how to set them up and the best configuration we find for sleeping.
    Join us as we demonstrate how to set up, pack away and configure the cushions for the optimal sleep! Any questions we haven't answered let us know in the comments.
    We hope you enjoyed the video - this week we hit 300 Subscribers so thanks to everyone for taking the time to follow our channel. If you liked the video please click like, subscribe and leave a comment - thanks for watching.

    Great tip on the rear lounge bed! We love the space it has - the newer ones have a bars that fit across the gap rather than legs, but it's just as quick to assemble. Our almost-teen has the pop-top bed - we nicknamed it the penthouse!

    Great vlog, nice to see how the beds configure. We ordered our expedition 67 pop top for next March without even seeing one. We done loads of research, initially wanting a coach built but not having a drive, it would spend most of its time in a yard. The van we finally chose ticked all the box’s, small enough to park on the street, rear lounge, bathroom, front dinette and what a bonus having the pop top, that literally swung the deal as it could sleep 4!!! Another great vlog guys!! Love Carl & Jackie xxx

      Thank you Carl & Jackie, that's very kind 🥰 it sounds like you had similar requirements to us, coach-built too big for our drive and we wanted something we can just jump in when we want and disappear on an adventure 😁 The van ticks so many boxes, the Expedition looks a great van, not seen one yet ourselves but hopefully sometime soon and we will of course make a video 😂👍 Thanks for watching, have a lovely weekend 😁

    I love how pleased and content you are with your van, you clearly did put a lot of thought into getting the right one! Never thought about using the pop top for storage during the day, really useful when you have the rear lounge configuration that converts. We originally considered an Autotrail V670 but had concerns about what we would do with bedding so rashly spent quite a bit on some lovely Duvalay sleeping bags. Anyway after some health issues we had a rethink and hopefully in the next week or two 🤞🏼we will pick up our tiny Burstner campervan 540 length with a pop top. Essentially it will fit on the drive with the car, happy days🙂. Loving your videos and well done on hitting 300 subscribers, I’m sure you will be up with the bigger channels before you know it.

    Thank you for this great set of videos. I have an old Autotrail Dakota but am considering ‘down-sizing’ to a camper van with pop top. I think they are the closer thing to the TARDIS - small on the outside, huge on the inside. I just have one question: Are the benches in the rear long enough to sleep ‘length ways’? I am also 6’1” and struggle to fit. Thanks, John.

      Thank you John and glad you are finding the videos useful 🥰 The are definitely bigger on the inside, TARDIS is a great description 🙂
      Sadly even on our 65 which is the longer of the 2 models it's not long enough in the rear lounge to sleep on the benches, tried it once with legs curled up but not comfy enough to be a regular way to sleep 👍

    The V tip is very handy 😁 we have the same size bed in our van, we sleep head to barn doors, means either of us can get up without disturbing each other as we both can shuffle down to the walkway gap and any bump that is left felt in the middle is running the same way as us and neither of us lie on it 😁 we have got some memory foam in a duvet cover as a base / sheet, even with the seat cushions turned over it was too ridgey for us

      A double duvet cover fits perfectly on the base, we just had to cut the memory foam to the shape of the seats by the doors, think it’s only 2cm foam and was cheap off the web. The foam, our duvet & pillows all squash into the bench seat without the services in. Our van is a Chausson but is made by Autotrail and looks almost identical to yours inside

      Hello Anthony, it was a lovely site one we would certainly return too. Some of the pitches are not the biggest if you get a camping tent one but it is well laid out and seems to have something for everyone. The people were lovely and friendly, the pool and central area excellent plus the bar and onsite restaurant were very good too. The bus stop was around 15 - 20 mins walk away, there is 2, 1 in either direction so it depends which way you want to go round the lake. The bus took about 30 mins to get to Annecy but did vary when more people were getting on in the morning than getting back which was slightly quicker.

    Thanks guys great video,very useful as always.I really like that particular campervan,my only reservation is the gas set up.I live in West Sussex so when I look for places around Sussex where you can fill your underslung tank up not many sites come up,where as bottled gas is very easy to locate.What are your thoughts on my reservations on this vehicle?~ thanks Ian

    • @VantasticAdventures
      @VantasticAdventures  3 года назад +2

      Thanks Ian that's very kind of you and glad you found it useful 🥰 It's true some filling stations have stopped supplying gas but the underslung tank holds 25 litres so once filled lasts us for ages. We filled up last summer and use the van quite a bit, gas always for cooking and in the winter for the heating but the tank is still half full. Also currently there is a massive shortage of bottles and some new van deliveries have been delayed as the customers are new to get hobby and don't have old ones to exchange so it's causing a backlog... I think gas is causing the whole industry a few headaches 😬
      We are off on another Adventure soon for a week so we will refill on the way and see how much we can squeeze in the tank, we have a station about 30 mins away on our route.
      In Sussex it does look quite limited but there are a couple north of Eastbourne and near Crawley. We use mylpg.eu to track nearest gas stations but it's a common question we get asked so will try and cover it in a future video 😁👍 thanks for watching 😁

    Thanks for the video. I was wondering what type of bedding you use and where you store it. Particularly if you take a mattress topper as they are so big x

    • @VantasticAdventures
      @VantasticAdventures  2 года назад

      Thank you 🥰 We tried a few different options and finally settled on just taking our duvet from home, we literally just take it off the bed with our pillows when we go away in the van as saves on storage space at home and makes it nice and easy to just pack up and head off. We tried a mattress topper but found it was too big as you say so don't use it anymore although for longer trips away we are considering one for the pop top bed that can be left on permanently and fits under the roof when closed.
      We travel with it on the rear lounge seat and then when set up we store it straight up in the pop top, same for bedding for the downstairs bed if traveling with more than 2, it's a great storage solution in the day. One trip we didn't open the roof so stored the bedding on the front passenger seat in the day as don't really use that just for 2.
      Hope that helps, it took a bit of trial and error for us but now seems to work well 😁👍

    • @VantasticAdventures
      @VantasticAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Hi Carl, congratulations bet you can't wait! 😁 We haven't struggled with condensation in the bathroom as yet, we generally use it then leave the door slightly open in the summer, with the pop top airvent open the air circulation is really good so it dries out quickly. In the winter with the blown air heating on its the warmest part of the van, we use it to dry wet gear too and then just leave the bathroom door open when we leave the van for the day no issues so far and no signs of damp on either hab check. Some owners have drilled holes into the door to vent it but we just leave it open when not in the van and all good so far 👍

Caroline is now gonna show you how to put the downstairs bed up....and then I will show you the proper way to do it. lol. The look on Caroline's face was a picture. lol. Downstairs bed is very undulating. I've put a mattress in my CV40 because I never sit at the back. I leave the bed up all the time. Where does Mollie sleep? Upstairs or downstairs? Bit disappointed that I didn't see her today. Do you never just leave the bed made up because you cant be bothered?

    • @VantasticAdventures
      @VantasticAdventures  2 года назад +2

      Hi Ruth, thank you glad you are enjoying the videos 🥰 We use the pop top all year although the coldest night so far was not really cold, it was down to -1C and was fine with a sleeping bag although you can leave the heating on a very low setting so it kicks in if it drops too much. Regarding the wind we have only had to close the roof once so far in one of the big storms in 2020 when we were staying in Devon on a hilltop, it was more to stop the noise but probably wise as our neighbours lost their awning 😬 The rear bed downstairs on the 65 is huge so as a backup could all sleep in there depending how old the children are in really bad conditions but generally it's very rigid in the wind. We want to try it in snow next and hopefully will film it when we do 😁👍

    Hey guys, just found the channel and love what you’re doing - keep it up! Just ordered an Expedition 68 (for the e-mtbs!) and will have a painfully long wait but my critical question is about sleeping arrangements! I’m 6’2” so a shade taller than you Iain. I haven’t specified the pop top yet (just the two of us now the kids have flown the nest) but should I for comfort reasons? Also thinking that if I did, it would mean that one of my cycling buddies could join for a trip when my better half is working. But it’s a lot of extra cash, so I’m torn between sleeping at a (slight?) angle or finding the extra cash for the pop-top... And would it make it more saleable down the line (in your opinion) as a four-berth? Sorry for all the questions but I don’t want to have any regrets with such a big (for me) investment. Have subscribed also, by the way 👍

    • @VantasticAdventures
      @VantasticAdventures  2 года назад

      Aw thank you that’s very kind of you to say, glad you like the channel and thank you for subscribing 🥰 The 68 is a brilliant van, the set up with the garage is very neat and perfect for MTB’s! The bed is huge so as long as you angle slightly as you say you should be fine and it seemed very comfy when we looked at it for a camper bed. The pop top is a great addition and would most likely make it easier to sell due to the fact it opens up the market to families too when you sell it on but depends how long you want to keep it for. Wild camping or using park ups wouldn’t be ideal for using the pop top but you can always keep it closed for “stealth” camping. The idea of taking a friend for a biking trip really appeals, it opens up more options to get the most use out of it. The pop top bed probably isn’t as comfy as the full time rear bed in the 68 but length wise should be fine for you, we tend to sleep most of the time in the pop top ourselves and it’s also useful for extra storage in the day. Although we did need the 4 berths ourselves when looking so we needed the pop top but even just for 2 it does give you more options and space - just the extra cost as you said. If you are able to go to the NEC show you should be able to see the pop top as I think they have a 68 going, hope that helps but don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions 😁👍
