😂. I bought 6 recommend knives this week for no reason at all . One really nice automatic I shouldn’t have bought but I m glad I did . There’s a clear difference in getting a brand name with good honest reviews 👍👍
I bought a CRKT Ripple on sale at Walmart for $30. Carried it for seven years until I lost it. So I bought it again but this time I couldn’t find it on sale at that price but for a great quality knife $70 is still worth it. I love the flip open lever behind it for quick access and thin profile you can’t even feel it on your person. Highly recommended.
My $130 automatic S30V with aluminum scales has lasted a lot longer than my $140 154cm griptilian with plastic scales. But I guess benchmade has set a low benchmark.
🚫 But to be fair, Gerber doesn't have time to make every knife perfect. They have a whole other product line to concern themselves with! What I'm saying, is that Gerber "has a lot on its plate". By "plate", I mean small glass jar filled with horrible smelling baby food that we force newborns to eat! {They aren't really the same company btw! Lol}
I’ve been using Gerber knives and multitool since my time in the military in 2007. I’ve moved on to Leatherman multitools, but I still my strongarm and other Gerber knives.
That's funny, I have a SOG field knife that says China on it. 😂 I like Buck, Camillus, and Gerber. I'm sure the other knives are good too I just haven't ever owned them. They all look nice. That Hogue looks pretty sweet.
It depends. The vast majority of knife manufacturers will use wheel grinders to sharpen their knives. This usually leads to a ruined heat treat and uneven angles that might have burrs. In my experience, my benchmade 550 and 940 both came with pretty bad edges. My mini crooked river came crazy sharp. So sometimes they’ll be good and sometimes they won’t. I just got a Chris Reeve sebenza and it came insanely sharp. The edge was phenomenal since they are hand sharpened. So It’s a gamble but with premium knives, you’ll get a great edge 9 times out of 10.
SOG's website states the cryogenically heat treated d2 tac xr version is made in China. SOG imports most of their knives but charge USA made prices. I've followed their products since the 1990s and stopped buying them for the above reason.
I like kershaws and zT s . I think they do one hell of a good job pumping out 100,000 knives a month in USA and who knows how many kershaws in China ? These makers should do vids on the environment their blades are made and show the people who finely craft these beautiful pieces of art . These are all very nice knives to have or gift to someone . 👍👍
2:23 Well, considering that nowadays it has become quite the questionable scenario of whether ONE Victoria's Secret 'model' would even fit in a single hot tub let alone a hot tub big enough for multiple "models", I reckon I'll just take your word for it at this juncture.
I bought an eafengrow knockoff (e355 with a thick spear blade so they say ) but it feels nothing like the real deal , looks similar but feels nothing like the real one and the metal looks different .
i personally don't really like Chris Reeve knives. they don't flip open fast and the handle looks too plain. only the wooden handles look fancy. it might be great quality but my eye wants something too. i prefer spyderco and benchmade.
I’ve owned & loved spyderco’s and Benchmade’s until I traded them for 1/4… for what it’s worth. Like nitpicking a hottub of Victoria secret models.. “hey honey the tubs 3/4 full why don’t you eat something.”
Anyone who would pay $2,000 for a knife isn't that bright. I wouldn't pay that price if I were a millionaire. It's a freaking knife. 🙄 Each to his own.
Never use again?? I would never even consider carrying a knife without the safety lock, self defense stabbing gets messy and unpredictable, you don't want that baby closing across your fingers
Collected Knife Tips : 1) You can attach orange paracord to your knives and other equipment so it on't get lost easily. 2) You can make a paracord lanyard to use put though the hole in your knife handle so your hand won't slip while chopping. 2) You can avoid beating on your knife (batoning) by using a folding saw and ax or hatchet. You can also fashion wooden wedges to baton instead. Normally, you'll find enough deadfall that is useable for fire making without the need for batoning anyway. 3) You can uses hockey tape or other wrap material on your knife handle to improve your grip. 4) If you choose a big survival knife, you'll still be able to do fine work with it. Anything a small knife can do, a big knife can do but a bushcraft knife should be chosen for appropriate size, blade width, grind and comfort. 5) There is a point of diminishing returns in knife toughness. Often, a knife is rugged enough that it won't break even without the thickest blade or toughest steel made. Weight may matter too. 6) Leather handles may absorb animal blood when used for hunting and can get to smell bad. 7) Before using a knife for food preparation, wash it with dish liquid such as Dawn to remove germs and residual non-food-grade oil. 8) Gloves are often a help in gripping knives, can prevent irritation from the handle and enhance safety especially during sharpening. 9) Accidentally driving your knife into dirt or muddy logs will dull it fast. So will accidental contact with rocks. One way to keep your knife safe and sharp is to always have it either in your hand or in its sheath. 10) The quickest knife to bring into action is a fixed blade knife. If you aren't happy with the sheath, you can buy or make a replacement. 11) A knife maker's reputation can tell you more than a set of specifications. The type of steel used, its thickness and type of grind may be less important that the maker's heat treatment, degree of hardening, quality control, fit and finish. 12) If you don't baton, throw, pry with or otherwise abuse your knife, it may last a lifetime and delight your heirs. 13) There are some inexpensive but good knives such as the Mora, BPS and Beavercraft lines. There are more expensive knives from KaBar, Cold Steel, Tops and Esee that are also well worth the money. Avoid gimmicky, fragile, no-name, novelty and cheaply-made knives ( and anything from China ) . Put your money into quality knives with good sheaths. 14) It is ideal to handle a particular type of knife in person before ordering one online. Ask friends what knives they have for you to examine. 15) Hollow handles that contain survival goodies are to be avoided. Full tang construction is ideal for strength. House survival kis in a pouch on the sheath or, better, in a separate belt pouch. that way, your small kit can hold more items and will be there when you need it. 16) It isn't normally good to use your knife as the tip of a spear but you can lash it to a pole to reach food, game or other things that are otherwise out of reach. 17) If you luck into an "Old Hickory" brand butcher knife, keep it. It can be used as a bushcraft knife either stock or modified. The brand was made by Onterio and is no longer produced. 18) When walking, a knife's lanyard can catch on branches and drag the knife out of the sheath. Consider that before using a lanyard. 20) If you want a defense knife, look at the Cold Steel Drop Forged Wasp, which is reminiscent of the Gerber Mark II. Otherwise, for EDC, get a Colonel Blades Lo Vix fixed blade. 21) Be extremely careful with folders but get a Victorinox Explorer and a Leatherman Wave.
I don't know what is it with you Americans and expensive pocket knives. Yes, you can buy a Toyota or you can buy an BMW and both for the same purposes, but a BMW you can use every day. A 200 dollar knife you only use now and then, if that. In EU, not many people spend more than 30 bucks or so on such thing.

Spyderco that flimsy knife is not tactical or tough. Get your research on knives sorted out. Btw why no Kershaw Knockout? Or DPX HEST/F URBAN TI KNIFE?! Made in USA right but not garbage like spyderco. Rather grab a case knife which is far better tougher than flimsy slicer spyderco if you're looking for slicer. ☝️😂

I still have my CRKT mini fixed blade I randomly picked up at Walmart 5+ years ago and freaking love that thing.
The full-size CKRT I had briefly was only sharpened on one side. Never could get past that.
@@matthewl67 oh you got a bad design 😆 what do you carry now?
Just bought one 3 days ago and returned it because it didn’t close straight after I dropped it off my lap into grass.
I have a US made Kershaw Leek and a couple older US made Gerbers that have held up very well to heavy use.
Benchmade knives are awesome.
I really like the 940-1 model. Is a great EDC knife.
So are Microtech. Pricey but well worth it.
Waaaaay overpriced.
Not all of USA made knives are high quality..... and Gerber knives are the best examples.
Gerber made great knives in the U.S. …until they sold the company to Chinese owned Fiskars…that’s when their quality took a nosedive.
Gerber usa made knives are just as good as the comparable knives from competitors

Not a fan of button locks. Had a couple fail. Have a couple PM 2s and a Para 3 Lightweight Salt in magnacut. Excellent knives.
@6:20 ... took me a second to realize that was in reverse.... I was like "huh"

SOG was my first edc knife and it did not last very long. It’ll always be my first but now the worst
Do you need to sharpen these before use or are they good to go?
My Benchmade 553 came ready to go
