I carried lots of these knives for many years. Finally I just had to accept that, despite the obvious beauty and joy of holding/playing with these knives, I am too clumsy. I just got sick of running into walls, doors, door jams, car doors, etc, and bending the pocket clip. Then taking the pocket clip off and hammering it out and waiting to carry it again until my new screws arrived in the mail to replace the ones I stripped. No thank you! I then tried Swiss Army knives for years. I typically forgot they even existed at the bottom of my pocket, and after changing pants I typically had no idea where they went. For these reasons it’s a leatherman on the belt from now on for me! Always there when I need. Never gets caught on anything.
I’ve only ever had one “nice” knife and it was a cold steel code 4. I loved it though. Finally got around to ordering another one earlier, and I would not be upset if i had to stick with it forever.
I would have to go with my Umnumzaan. I feel like it could last a lifetime and I wouldn’t ever have to worry about anything going wrong with it. Super simple construction. Literally only two screws holding it together. I can take it apart easily and clean it without voiding any warranties. And above everything, it just feels solid
"I'm not a steel snob but... I'll only carry the Elementum in S35VN..." :))) The advantage of the Small Sebenza 31 over the Large 21 (or 31) is the Small 31 is legal to carry in more jurisdictions due to the sub 3" blade length. I'm with you on the Sebenza if I could only have one. One small, one large. Case closed.
I have a Large Inkosi and two Small Seb 21s (a WC and a dressy Unique) just for that reason. I know the blade size of the Inkosi is legal in my neck of the woods, but when I travel to bigger cities, or visit non-knife friends/family I'll grab my H&T Mini Engineer and put a Seb in it. .
Nice job! I have all of those. Think you nailed it…three years ago. That’s about when I stopped buying so many knives! I had gravitated to all of these knives, and I really didn’t think I could top them. Thanks for your videos!
Since 1985 my one and done EDC knife has always been my Victorinox Swiss Champ. Yes the same one. It has saved my bacon many many times. That being said, I don't have to carry just one, so for the last 4 or 5 years I have also carried a Gerber Gator 154CM.
Esee 3, I edc one now and there literally isn’t a better warranty, it’s small enough to do almost all utility tasks and big enough to do all heavy stuff. Anything bigger you can use a hatchet.
TBH. The Kizer coniferous in 154 CM is my new go to. The size and shape are amazing. I also love the QSP penguin in D2. I am blown away at the build quality of these knives. Way better than custom knives from years ago.
5 years and counting here with the PJ 21, although I did splurge and buy a large bog oak, raindrop 21, for my 73rd birthday. Incidently, a Spyderco Delica lived in my pocket for almost a decade. Still carry one, off and on.
I love the Delica. It took me a while to get here and I went through a ton if knives in the process, but now I have a collection of Delicas with different blade shapes (several regrinds), steels, scales and clips and I really like them. Great knive to carry. Disappears in the pocket and cuts like a dream.
After having owned the para 3 LW for about a year. I honestly do not recommended it because you will eventually just want to upgrade to the g10 version or the paramilitary 2. So if you're think about picking up the lightweight just got for the g10 version trust me.
Honestly, the folder that sees the most use in my collection is my Cold Steel Code 4 in CTS-XHP. Granted, I'm very partial to lockbacks and I have very large hands (XL gloves are often a bit on the uncomfortably snug side). Runner up would probably be my Delica 4. As far as what knife I cherish most, hands down answer is my grandfather's Camillus BSA whittling knife.
Yea well said. The Elementum is a nice knife but it's just too small for my hands as a do everything one edc knife. Also unlike something like a Spyderco Para 3 there is no finger choil to grip up on.
In my opinion, the best knife you can get in the $180 - $275 range would be a TRM Neutron or Atom. Great knives that are an excellent value. I have seen that they are a little hard to get but It only took me 2 weeks to get my brand new neutron after first finding out about it.
Solid recs! I am surprised you didn’t mention the R2D2 in the budget category. And my choice if I could only have 1 would be my 940-1, because it has the most blade real estate of a knife you can’t even feel yourself carrying, and also because I’m a lefty so the axis lock stuff is great for that. Runners up, under the same logic and fun fidget factor would be the large or small Ritter Hogue. I own both and love both.
I was fidgeting with my new Hinderer XM18 through this video, and my choices are definitely that and my CRK Large Inkosi. They're just too good. I love my elementum, I love my para 3, I love my Benchmade Anthem TO DEATH, but those are definitely my top 2 as well. Anthem comes in 3rd for me. Great video, man.
@@butcheredalive I mean, I've got medium-ish sized man hands, though I usually wear large gloves. It fits my hands well with some room to spare. The small blade makes you think the handle will be small, but it's plenty big for most people. I haven't owned a Manix 2, but it's on my list of potential spyderco knives. Especially because it's still available in Spy27, which I've heard is pretty great. I would personally recommend starting with the Para 3 if you haven't had a compression lock knife before. Then if you like it, venture into Spyderco's other offerings. If you've already experienced the compression lock and aren't a huge fan, then I'd say the Manix is an easy choice to make.
For years I carried the Benchmade AFCK, love it. I would get another one if they made an updated version. Also really like the Benchmade McHenry/Williams 710, although its a bit more tactical. Spyderco's Para 2 is a great choice, but my favorite is the Spyderco Manix 2 XL. Best ergos ever. Love, love, love it. I have three versions and always have one on me.
Awesome video! Great knife picks. My EDC is a Civivi Elementum. It looks great. And at 50.00 $ I’m not worried about using the knife. The Sebenza is one of my all time favorite knives. You can’t go wrong with a Sebenza. Your leather lanyards look really cool. Thank you
I'd also say the Kershaw leek/and the composite for lightweight, size, ease of opening, and so far from my experience having the Damascus steel version for 5 years.. Holds a edge pretty well and easy to sharpen
Has to be the Spyderco paramilitary 2. Fits multiple situationsn as an EDC... Super quick, compression lock and dam near indestructible... Close 2nd is the Spyderco Dragonfly 2 in the zdp-189. Love this little beast. Punches well above is weight
I've got several folding knives. Yes, only several. Native 5 is the last knife I need. I'll buy another one if I wear this one out, or sooner if they make one with a compression lock. This is coming from a guy that carried an Endura for 25 years.
I have to second that. I EDC my native 5 every workday (tho it is special- sprint run/CF/S110V). You never really need any larger SLICER blade than it has, and with the full choil, I also have full grip and full control even with large hands, being 6'-4". It's just small enough to be non-threatening to most of the general public & easily goes un-noticed in the pocket. (PS: I ALSO bought a second IDENTICAL Native 5 sprint; in case I ever lose it I have an immediate replacement!!!). I have a couple larger carries for outdoors/weekends, but not really appropriate during the work week. I sold a BM943 (un-satisfying feel and sound, like a toy, next to any well-built hard use knife). So no desire for Benchmade. Also won't own another ZT- I've had a couple apart and have seen the miniature PB flat washers they used to guide the blade, so not fond of ZT internals at all. I don't like knives that are mechanically marginal and designed to sell on looks alone. I like knives built as well as Hinderer or CR, though I'm not drawn to their particular style. I also prefer having just a few premium knives, over a junk drawer full of less desireables (buy once, cry once).
I have a Benchmade 940, Bugout, Mini Griptilian, GiantMouse Ace Biblio, Spyderco Native 5 G-10, numerous Victorinox and Case, but the knife I find in my pocket almost everyday is the Civivi Elementum.
I'm surprised that not more people mentioned the mini grip. For my money, it would be my "one-and-done." Glad I don't have to make that choice, as I love all my "children."
I have the CIVIVI elemental. the only complaint I have is the pocket clip. After some use the screws loosed up and one of the screws fell out and I lost it. Bought some new screws from CIVIVI and I just made sure to use lock tight the new screws. Excellent EDC knife for the more restrictive municipalities.
I’ve got a Benchmade AFCK 800sbt I picked up in ‘95, it’s been in my pocket for the better part of 25 years. A few others found a way into my pocket but never for long, carried this AFCK through three tours of Iraq and most of my career as an Army Infantryman. Does Benchmade even still make the AFCK? 😂
I prefer to look at it from a size and use rather than cost: My only large/hard use - CRK Umnumzaan My only sml/edc - CRK Small Sabenza 31 w/ Micarta My only multi tool - SAK Spartan
So glad I found this channel! You've defined done the research and I appreciate it man! Alot of channels are biased and sponsored. U got solid straight up reviews! Thanks and keep it up please!
When I thought about it, like really thought about it, I had to admit to myself that the best, "if I could only own one knife" knife it would be a lame victorinox SD. It just fits in to more situations because of its size, weight, and versatility. It's as good in the boardroom as it is in deep "haven't seen another human in two weeks" field work. Second to that I do love my boker spillo.
I have a lot of knives, but have had the same small Sebenza for 23 years and it’s still as good as new (maybe better, actually since I’ve been able to customize it a bit). If I had to sell everything else, it would be the one to keep.
My favorite is my pm2 with rain drop carbon fiber flytanium scales, lynch deep carry clip, flytanium copper lanyard plug, and maxamet blade. Love this knife!!
For budget I love my baklash (under $50). Then cold steel code 4 and american lawman are amazing sub $100 knives. After that I would jump up to the Hogue Ritter RSK (full sized or mini, they're both amazing).
Same here I own 4 bugouts and 1 mini bugout I wish they would make a mini bailout!!! But I’m still can’t decide on a custom bugout or go with the bailout lol
Just started my collection a couple of months back. Right now I have a Civivi Elementum, Crkt CEO, Squid, and Pilarge. Hoping to get my hands on a bugout and para3 soon.
The bugout feels kinda flimsy but it is so fun to flip open. It’s not worth the freakin insane price tho for a plastic knife, but all these nerds on here still drool over it and circle jerk to it saying it’s the best. I wouldn’t waste your money if u already have a mid sized knife.
Both of those knives have too much hype. Spyderco knives are ugly so don’t just get one to fit in with the knife nerds who think they know everything and follow trends. Get something that actually makes you feel badass when you pull it out in front of a group of friends.
👍 Good overview of some interesting knives. I cannot argue with your what-if one and only choice. Excellent knife. Having said that, I would argue for these in the less expensive ranges: Buck 110, Victorinox Huntsman SAK, Rough Ryder Reserve Common Stock, Cold Steel AD10, Lionsteel TM1. And, one should not forget the KaBar Mule, or the the original SOG Tomcat. Just sayin’. I was shocked & dismayed that none of these made your list either as the selected knife in these price ranges or one of the alternatives. 😀
I’m at a Gerber paraframe and a cheap serated Buck knife, victorinox classic and spyderco bug on my keychain but we all start somewhere. Family and kids first! Thinking of getting the Ka-Bar Dozier next.
@W Jack thank you for the advice, I may get those down the road , family first, since I’m a beginner at knife collecting I will probably just work my way up eventually, may get the Rat2 then maybe a civivi after that.
Save your money , every time you think you what to buy a cheep knife save that money put it aside and when you have five knifes save up buy that more expensive knife you get what you pay for and you will not have five cheep knifes that just sit in a desk drawer. You will thank yourself in the end
I'm still partial to my Sharpe 150, which I bought in 1979 and my Gerber 600, which I got as a backup before being deployed to the Middle-East in 1989. Both are solid workhorses that have been through a lot and are still reliable.
The one knife to rule them all is the one knife that would Undoubtably outlast every blade that you have shown here. By my sentence I think everybody knows what I’m talking about and it’s the Cold Steel Recon One. All that will be left in the post apocalypse is cockroaches, Cher and every single cold steel tri-ad folding knife ever made!
SpyderCo Brad Southard. Premium parts: Ti open skeleton frame. G10 scale. Carpenter CTS 204P blade. Frame lock. Flipper and Spidey hole. Well places ergonmics, gimping, etc. Hard to beat for the price.

Literally only two screws holding it together. I can take it apart easily and clean it without voiding any warranties. And above everything, it just feels solid
I’m thinking the same thing. I’m either going to get an umnumzaan, or a seb 31 natural micarta.
Love my PM2! Keep trying to find something better, but keep failing. Fun game to play though!
The para 3 Is amazing man, it's paramilitary 2 but smaller and imo better. The civivi elementum is also good
I've had my Strider SnG for 16 years and it's still solid
"I'm not a steel snob but... I'll only carry the Elementum in S35VN..." :)))
The advantage of the Small Sebenza 31 over the Large 21 (or 31) is the Small 31 is legal to carry in more jurisdictions due to the sub 3" blade length.
My favorite knife is the Hogue Ritter RSK
Cory Frost just posted one up for like 130 bucks
Folding: Spyderco Siren. Fixed: Spyderco Waterway. I hate mucking about keeping up with corrosion resistance.
Giant Mouse Ace Iona with the aluminum scales. Great knife, design speaks to me, and the materials aint bad for the price.
Great knife, but Sebenza is the one that does the work best.
Anything bigger you can use a hatchet.
i agree esee all the way
TBH. The Kizer coniferous in 154 CM is my new go to. The size and shape are amazing. I also love the QSP penguin in D2. I am blown away at the build quality of these knives. Way better than custom knives from years ago.
totally agree with you “just one knife” choice
my 21 has dominated my pocket since I got it
5 years and counting here with the PJ 21, although I did splurge and buy a large bog oak, raindrop 21, for my 73rd birthday.
Delica 4 is my fave pocket knife. Not too big, not too small and the blade design does everything well.
After having owned the para 3 LW for about a year. I honestly do not recommended it because you will eventually just want to upgrade to the g10 version or the paramilitary 2. So if you're think about picking up the lightweight just got for the g10 version trust me.
Mircotech would be a good option also. Their warranty is outstanding and they make really awesome products, folders and otfs.
Kershaw knockout, very underrated.
In my opinion, the best knife you can get in the $180 - $275 range would be a TRM Neutron or Atom. Great knives that are an excellent value. I have seen that they are a little hard to get but It only took me 2 weeks to get my brand new neutron after first finding out about it.
Totally agree! Just got an Atom with Textured Titanium Scales
I agree with your pick of the large Sebenza. I have several (small Umfaan, med Sebenza and the large.) His fixed blades are great too. Great show.
Anything that's not an assist or automatic with really smooth action, s30v or s35vn steel, nice and slicey, and a great look and warranty
Is the para 3 too small in the handle for someone with above average hand size? I’m between that and the manix 2 lightweight
@@Thisisausername556 I’ll check it out
This is one of the very best knife review videos ever made and I have seen most - excellent job!!!
Hard to pick but my ZT is always with me so probably that
Cold Steel Code 4 CTS XHP. Never thought I would be pushing Cold Steel but this one hits the sweet spot for what I need.
Thank you
Spyderco wins. Shocking.
I just bought my first Chris Reeve Sebenza and I agree 100%, dropping $450 on a knife was hard for me, but Im really glad I did..
Sentimentality aside, if I had to pick one knife to keep, I'd go with either the ZT0450 or the Kizer T1.
The 0450 is my baby
I feel like the T1 is very underrated.
I'd also say the Kershaw leek/and the composite for lightweight, size, ease of opening, and so far from my experience having the Damascus steel version for 5 years.. Holds a edge pretty well and easy to sharpen
I would take my Microtech Socom elite with the apocalyptic finish on a clip point blade.
The fixed blade version.
TheMoonCloud no I have the manual folder version.
@@davidpayne840 If I only could have one knife, it would need to be a fixed blade. The socom or socom mini is a good one from microtech.
TheMoonCloud if I were to go with a fixed blade, it would have to be my ka-bar!! It is probably the strongest beefyest knife I own!!
Everything you need and nothing you don’t...
Has to be the Spyderco paramilitary 2.
Fits multiple situationsn as an EDC... Super quick, compression lock and dam near indestructible... Close 2nd is the Spyderco Dragonfly 2 in the zdp-189. Love this little beast. Punches well above is weight
I bought a Dragonfly for opening packages at home. I now have one in every vehicle as well. Great lil cutter!
I got many folders and all that was mentioned, but my favorite all time and edc is the TOPS mini scandi folder! Nice video!
I'll stick with my ZT, great warranty, use it for everything from skinning a deer to working on the job site.
What model is your ZT?
0350TS.
I have a Benchmade 940, Bugout, Mini Griptilian, GiantMouse Ace Biblio, Spyderco Native 5 G-10, numerous Victorinox and Case, but the knife I find in my pocket almost everyday is the Civivi Elementum.
My mini grip. I absolutely love it.
I prefer to look at it from a size and use rather than cost:
My only large/hard use - CRK Umnumzaan
My only sml/edc - CRK Small Sabenza 31 w/ Micarta
My only multi tool - SAK Spartan
no love for kershaw knives for the lower budget? damn
Kershaw Bareknuckle is the best imo once it breaks in
So glad I found this channel! You've defined done the research and I appreciate it man! Alot of channels are biased and sponsored. U got solid straight up reviews! Thanks and keep it up please!
Haha, he's promotion stuff that's sent to him. I don't know if this is unbiased for you...
I've been waiting for this video for years! Totally agree with your recommendations
Absolutely love my ultratech microtech.
Man you got my hopes up that the marbled carbon fiber elememtum was still in stock
I want the same one lol
My favorite is my pm2 with rain drop carbon fiber flytanium scales, lynch deep carry clip, flytanium copper lanyard plug, and maxamet blade. Love this knife!!
Benchmade 940-1702. I’m selling just about every other folder I have. So light, so strong, so versatile. Just love it.
For budget I love my baklash (under $50). Then cold steel code 4 and american lawman are amazing sub $100 knives. After that I would jump up to the Hogue Ritter RSK (full sized or mini, they're both amazing).
Benchmade Bugout 535 or Bailout for me!!!! I have 2 Bugouts already and need a Bailout (newest one with green scales) now!!!
Same here I own 4 bugouts and 1 mini bugout I wish they would make a mini bailout!!! But I’m still can’t decide on a custom bugout or go with the bailout lol
@@knifeaddict1014 custom Bugout all the way broski!!!!! ;)
But that’s the point, WE DONT have to pick just one knife, although the CR Sebenza 21 or 31 would be my choice
I would love it if you made this video every year around the holidays. Maybe even add additional price points. Lots to expand on here. Good stuff.
This is the quickest I’ve ever clicked!
Same
Haha I was thinking the same before I even clicked it
Same
great information!! a 2023-24 update would be great on high end knifes... thanks for introducing me to Sebenza knifes.. thank you!!!!
I have toted my Benchmade 940 Osborne for many years...so happy with it.
And then there's me with a $15 one I got off amazon
We all start somewhere!
Then there’s me with a disposable plastic knife
I'd pick my damn Esee 3
My Buck Strider Tarani is my workhorse. My Rike Knife Hummingbird Plus with Damasteel is my show off/ fidget flipper.
Me too, CS Cold Steel tanto blade model.
How about the tactical green screen navy optimal carbon mid nite blade
Cher!? LOL!
SpyderCo Brad Southard. Premium parts: Ti open skeleton frame. G10 scale. Carpenter CTS 204P blade. Frame lock. Flipper and Spidey hole. Well places ergonmics, gimping, etc. Hard to beat for the price.
Awesome video man. What about the best damn multi-tool...?
Surge.
Leatherman Sidekick (;
Edit: *Leatherman. I was typing that one-handed cause my other hand was holding my veggie burrito :P
Leatherman mut!!!
Case mini trapper with the sambar handles. I’m in the military and it’s the only knife I have been able to take everywhere and work in every climate.
Ya mine is ontario rat 1....coz that's all I can afford
Sebenza 21's and Zaans for life. I've got a good complement of them. I've not carried anything else since CRK.♥️🙂👍
