      I literally bought 10 of them Ozark trail 7.5's, D-2 is an underrated steel! it's up there with magnacut with edge retention and toughness! and is actually tougher than magnacut!! Ask me how I know I am a blade smith lol... in my study's I would say this cheap 10.00 knife up against the bugout will win in my eyes! If the heat treating is proper the D-2 will beat out the S35VN!!

    I just got the Orange and black $10 Ozark Trail knife last week because of all the hype it's been getting and IT IS A GREAT KNIFE for the price. I can compare it to come of my $35 knives and it does very well. One reviewer cut cardboard for 7 hrs straight on a live feed and it still sliced paper afterward.

    Swiss Tech names
    Haltbar = durable
    Stählern = made of steel
    Leicht = lightweight
    Praktisch = handy, practical
    Helfen = to help
    Balken = beam (wood), bar … not Balkan (which would be the Balkan region)
    Doppelt = double
    Gerundet = rounded
    Würdig = worthy

    As long as these companies can maintain their QC, I
    think this will be a great thing for this new generation getting into EDC. For the 18 year old kid working a minimum wage job, the glass counter at Walmart might be the only glimpse into this space that he sees. I always say my first ‘big boy’ knife was a Kershaw Blur that I got from a North Carolina Walmart.

    • @theplourde

      My first knife was a Kershaw Hotwire (that I still own) from my local Walmart in Michigan where I live. Then I fell into the trap of owning several Kershaws and quite a few of the Ozark Trail knives you see all over knife lover pages and such including the orange Bugout clone.

  • @jwgbmp40

    Couple things here:
    1) yes compare bugout
    2) i would like to try the haltbar, but for $15 less I would probly pick the one you dud after for $35.
    3) I own gerber, buck and kershaw I bought at walmart in the early 90's. Still use them today. I dont think I have ever sharpened my gerber w/guthook. Ive skinned a handful of deer believe it or not with the Leek.
    4) times are different for me today and I have been able to purchase more expensive knives, that I dont think are really any better than what I mentioned above. I do have a bugout that I bought with a gift cert from work. Its really sweet, but I wouldnt pay $171 for it, out of my pocket.
    Keep up the great content. I really found value in two of the BPS knives, the Adventurer and a smaller skinner type.

    I have a bugout and bought the bugout clone today. I am going to do my own test since I mostly carry the bugout daily and will be able to really compare. Funny side note: When I was buying my knife today at WalMart (same one as you did), the cashier was telling me about some guys that bought about one of every knife in the case. I started laughing to myself when I saw your video. Good video and info.

      I hate too agree but you are correct. I'm less concerned about edge retention with a good stone it takes under a minute too fix the edge so no big deal. I bought the original Ozark bigout clone 2 years ago I have seriously beat the piss out of it. Even shingled a full roof and cut the shingles with it instead of a utility knife. And for a 5 dollar knife it seriously can't be beat with a slight adjustment too the action it was smoother than my actual bugout(regret paying what I did for this stupid thing.)

    I don't travel as much as I used to compared to pre-covid era, but I would have loved to see that D2 knife at Walmart back then. Because I traveled so often, I learned to pack everything on my carry-on. Only problem with that was that I couldn't bring my knife with me. But buying an okay knife for $10 at my destination and getting rid of it on the way back would have been a game changer.

    Menards has stepped into the game as well. They have a house brand called Guidesman that sales some knives that don't suck for the price. I picked up the "Covert" a neck knife for $10 that was sharper out of the box then most knives I have purchased. I had very low hopes but have been pleasantly surprised. I have a Schrade XTimer red aluminum liner lock knife.(need to put all that title in to get to the right knife) the blade profiles are virtually identical. I wouldn’t be surprised if the factory that made Schrade knives in china, before Schrade went under, is now making ozark knives from the Schrade surplus. I kinda want to take the paint off the Ozark now and see if the blade is later etched ‘XTimer’ on the blade.

Id love to see some "hard use" videos showing how far you can go with different knive steels and handles and stuff. Cutting bags or rocks, cutting in durt, cleaning Pbc, cutting heat shrink off metal, dropping from ladder height shit like that, id prefer if it was a series and you could have work sharp feature in in the middle with a hone and strip then at the end with a full resharpening. But even if it's just a big video with a bunch of knives doing the same stuff I'd love to see something like that

    I was literally at Walmart today and saw one of the models civivi had to offer there. So when I got home I was just looking at the other models I could get from Wally World. Stoked. With that in mind, at time I travel with a carry on bag only on the plane so of course no sharp object to be carried there. I can stop at a Walmart and pick up a cheap edc if I’m staying for longer than a day. I’ve picked up a ozark trail a time or two and a quickly sharpener and I’m good for the rest of the time. I usually do checked bags going home. Nice video for those on a budget

    If you just lightly tighten the screw on that last knife with the axis lock and orange frn handles it will stop that blade play without interference with the action. I've seen that knife literally torture tested and surprisingly it held up longer then it should have for $10. But the great thing about that new axis lock orange handle knife is if you travel and can't take a knife on the Plain you can go too any walmart and grab this and have a knife for the time you're visiting and it's only $10. My experience over 43 year's with Walmart knives was mostly Buck being the brand they all had around me.

    The black coating on the Barlow is probably TiN (titanium nitride). It is extremely common.

    I work at Walmart and have been so hype about civivi knives and the iridium also

    G-10 on a Walmart knife, how cool, I remember when an Al Mar knife would have G10 and it was the sheot. granted 14 years ago!. Oh and Cold steel went to a Walmart brand and I think SOG did the same thing, which I don't fault them a bit. I met L.Thompson at a L A gun show at the Pomona fair grounds , this is way back when he only had two boxes of knives, a push dagger and another small knife. That was it, whole Cold steel line at the time. He was extremely affable and into connecting with a growing customer base, I'm very happy for him!!!!

    I bought that first blue $7 Ozark while traveling (after I left an airport) and found it pretty satisfactory during my travels.

    Tip down carry may not be safer but it's still better

    Man, sometimes knife RUclipsrs are so out of touch. Approx 95% of dudes have a Walmart/gas station knife in their pocket, and they use it

      If they knew what they were missing and could afford it, they probably wouldn't 😂. Also Swiss Tech action is great and I hope this makes companies like Benchmade lower their prices a bit too.

    The best way to get brands to lower their price is to not buy their overpriced products ...

    it isn't just knives. Walmart's gen 3 wireless earbuds, and open ear earphones are also a step above what they used to carry.

    I got the orange BM killer. I cut through a few heavy duty boxes with ease. Action is comparable for price. You need to put it up against the bugout.

    i like to see these for travel, ive had to travel knifeless before and pick something up when i landed and usually just end up with a buck bantam that i pass off later, it would be nice to see more consistent stock but theres a walmart everywhere

    I got the Ozark in d2 an I got the haltbar the other day. So far I'm loving the haltbar it's pretty comfortable. It would be awesome to see a bugout battle an a video completely testing the haltbar in vg10

    Put the bug out versus the fug out!
    Fake out. Bug fout. We'll find a better name for the fake bug out later.
