My man looked at a photo of himself when he was young and in high school, he's 40 now, and said, "I can't find that guy anymore". I replied, "that is because he isn't reflected in your mirror anymore but he's in my eyes", he melted.

My man is a single dad, has been struggling with the idea that his kids don't have a positive female role model. We haven't met each other's kids yet, partly because of this. I validated him and told him that he alone is enough for his kids, and that he already has what they need. He later told me how empowering that statement was and how much it really meant to him.

A Rohr My man is raising 2 daughters, 7m & 8 yrs old. I told him I admire him for stepping up as a dad and caring for little girls. (A lot of black fathers don't). He such a good father he allows me to have time with them because he says I'm good for them and since I'm raising my 2yr old grandson he lets him come over for play days. I love him so much I wanna stick around and see these beautiful lil angles grow into beautiful young ladies.

Lionhearted Me Seriously? A man does that and, since it's not what men "normally" do, he deserves to be wowed and be put on a pedestal everyday and reminded of how great he is??? The millions of single mums out there who do that and much more are treated like... what? What recognition do they get from society? They're only "recognised" when something goes wrong and one of the kids commits a crime, then the single mum is all to blame! I find it sad that women are much worse off in terms of social recognition of all their abilities, skills and strengths because their peers (i.e. other women) contribute to lower their appreciation. No offense, but when you say it's amazing that a man gets to wonderfully raise his children on his own and you put him on a pedestal you are implicitly admitting that women have also done the same for centuries but that's different/"normal". I'd rather have people saying "it's amazing how someone gets to raise a child/children on their own and do a great job. These PEOPLE should get more recognition and support from society as a whole"!

Good specific suggestions for women to use. The problem in my long term relationship, I have a man who will do anything for me, but is rarely verbal towards me. He’s a worker bee about getting things done but I feel taken for granted frankly. He hardly ever says I look nice, he hardly ever says he loves me. He does remark on my cooking but he’s not a talker. It’s a real issue for many women. I’ve learned from you how to be better and more specific at encouraging him, but I feel it’s always me boosting him. And yes he’s happier. That’s said, MEN need to understand that women also have egos, and feminine psychological needs too. A little sweet talk, efforts to arrange a date, holding hands, etc on a regular non-sexual basis to their wives/ girlfriends is like Viagra for women, especially long term. All that said...why is it SO hard for many men to just speak affectionately? To praise their partners directly and sincerely to them? Our self esteem needs feeding too. 🤔
Because men haven’t been taught to do express their feelings. And when some of them do with their girlfriends or wives, they get shut down. Then when people like you show up if they haven’t overcomes that they continue not sharing until they feel v6 safe enough to do so.
Optimus yeah, like 43 years of living together, working, raising kids and periodic times of several sessions of marriage counseling often focusing on communication skills is simply is not enough. And as you infer…”a woman like me” comes along and don’t make him feel “safe”. Sorry…big FAT cop out. He’s a grown man. I’m not his adoring lonely mother. I have dedicated my life to his needs, his career and his/ our children. I have asked politely, it have explained politely and specifically and got very feeble, weak, courteous kinds of signals. That said, I’ve come to the realization that he does not care enough to really put in some effort towards a better more friendly relationship. He has no other friends except me and I do meet my marital obligations when he wants. I used to be quite sexual, desiring it regularly. That said, he’s not meeting my emotional or spiritual needs and doesn’t care to. So it’s a rather boring, mundane life these days. I’m tired of always trying to make things better, more intimate as I did for years. It’s my turn but it’s not happening. So I’ve decided I won’t chase him. He’s a good man, makes my life easier as I age, separation would be expensive and while I know I deserve and know have earned more than that after decades of service and deferring to his career path, it’sabout as good as it’s going to get at my age. I’m lucky to have a husband and I know he’s lucky to have me. My husband will talk bullshit, sports, business with other men for hours laughing, chatty but not with me. You need to stop blaming women and making us responsible for you guys. ‘feeling’ safe. That’s the biggest, oldest cheap excuse there is.
My BFF is a great guy, but he is careful about who he lets see that part of him. I tell him thank you so much for giving me the privilege of seeing who you really are...it makes me feel special. I see him stand taller every time! It makes me a better person to know him!!!

the things you said men like are the same women like. the whole admiration thing is not for a romantic relationship or if so it has to go both ways. a romantic relationship demands equality and admiration has to be mutual and felt by mutual respect not something that you need to say. apart from that you only want to be admired by other people other than your companion.

selves, it all backfires. Most relationships get old quickly because we stop being considerate fairly early on, and the partner becomes just a habit.

We need to become comfortable and consistent in verbally appreciating all of the wonderful people in our lives. Then it becomes a habit.
I think that if we can practice this in the initial dating phase it can prepare us to keep doing it in the long run along with doing inner work on both sides. Also to make sure the relationship isn’t focused on the wrong things like money and sex. I think it could go a long way

I'm in a long distance relationship and what I do to make my bf stay connected with me is to always compliment him.
When he tells me about what happened at work, I always tell him "Oh that's great babe, you are so hardworking and I am so proud of you!"
When he fixed the wifi and his laptop, I simply told him " you're an awesome technician, good job!"

I always tell my husband that I’m proud of him for being such an amazing provider and for planning for our future. And I tell him how hot he is in his uniform (and out of it) because he really is. He wasn’t raised in a family that gave compliments, and he has had really low self-esteem his whole life. I think I’ve helped him see that he’s a really good guy.

I truly hate cleaning dishes, give me laundry. My husband comes home from work and cleans the dishes, even the hidden ones in our kids room. I see that ALL the dishes & pots are all clean. I walk over to him with open arms and give him a long hug & kiss & tell him thanks babe for doing the dishes I love you. Now he does them and tells me he knows I don't like doing them. I truly love my hubby.
This stuff really works. This takes me back to when I was running for a bus one day and when I got on the bus driver said he admired how I could squeeze through to slim poles and he said that he could never do that and I instantly said to him well I certainly hope not with all that wonderful male brawn that you have and I'll never forget his face he just had the biggest grin and he almost slid down his seat. Then he continued to drive the bus with his chest out. It was so obvious that it worked that I was stunned and I remember it to this day.

My man is simply the best person in my life. He's dark and rough on first notice to most but he's gentle and kind to me, and always has been. He gets me... We both have learned so much together. I have been all over the world. He has traveled some but has basically lived in one area his entire life. I'm 5'3" he's 6'2" ... He is a self proclaimed realist I'm a pragmatic dreamer. We have both had success and failures but he's never taken his failures out on me and I haven't taken mine out on him. Instead, we both are there for each other in the pain of failure and the joy of success. He's a wonderful provider and I'm a really great home maker. Together we have shown each other that it is us against the world. My loyalty is to him. I say forever he says for the foreseeable future. Words mean more when actions follow and are congruent with the words. He's so good at showing me he loves me. I do my darndest to do the same. He's a keeper. I'm not being who I'm not with him. I want him to be who he is with me. This isn't a pretend relationship. We fall short but we are honest about it and forgiving of each other. He's big and protective. I'm small and cuddly. Together we keep each other happy Because we Want to. We have never yelled and screamed at each other in an all out battle to win...because our goals line up together. I love him. I love him in a deeply rooted trusting respectful way. And because of this I would do anything for him that is within my power. He's a force to be reckoned with and that is the sexiest thing about him. This isn't luck it's life.

Some time ago, I was dating a very sweet guy who was an introvert and I usually complimented him after each date, just picking out something special that happened that only relates to "us". For instance, the way he looked into my eyes so passionately, the idea behimd his tattoo, his perspective of something he mentioned. When he realises that I actually remember the tiny details in a conversation he appreciates it very highly and feels special. So my advice is to be attentive to what he says to you and compliment him later (after the date) on something specific that might mean a lot to him. During the date I liked to tease him or say things like you're smile is breath-taking, love the way you hug me etc. & it kind of sparks some connection up 😊

In case, you all are wondering why the long wait. I was supposed to get engaged. The week of the engagement, my ex called it off. He said "he still wanted to have a good time" I figured he had met someone else. I decided, I should meet someone else. My heart wasn't it. I didn't want a rebound person, it wasn't going to fill the emptiness and the hurt.
Then shortly after, my ex started calling. I didn't pick up the phone.
Finally, after months, I answered the phone.
Now, I have moved on.
Yes, it took me a long time. I came to realize. He was not ever going to make a commitment.

A few days ago I was telling my guy how much I appreciation his his extra emotional support these last few months with my dad being in very poor health. He has literally been at death's door but very slowly turning a corner. My guy asks for updates on how my dad is doing and mom is through this. He says he prays for my dad to get better to come home. We talk about our close connection to our families and not take them for granted. Right now, we are LDR, and we have to postpone meet up until I feel like dad is in a lot more stable health at home before visiting him. I wouldn't handle this as well without his support.

I’m talking to this guy and I noticed it’s difficult for him to flirt like I know he’s interested because he catches everything I say and remembers it. But in the beginning I tried complimenting him but at the same time make it funny and he just tried to brush it off and laughed so of course I felt dumb then I asked if he like that or not but I could if you didn’t like it and he told me that he had never had “Cariño” given to him so one day I just told him what was on my chest and told him he needs to let himself be loved and explained that no matter who he ends up talking to or being with to let her express herself because that the women version of shooting her shot and one day I told him “Solo quiero darte cariñito. So you can get with the program lol” translated to I just want to give you love. And let me tell you I noticed he really like that so he’s now more open to receiving love and affection.

Give it some time. And try not to give compliments too often because they lose their flair. And some guys are so macho they don't process compliments well, especially if they weren't raised on compliments. Best of luck🙂

I’m stuck there too. My man never even compliments my appearance and I have lost respect/admiration for him. After watching this I realize he must feel it because he never wants to spend time with me and never asks or cares about how I am. I should try complimenting him and see if it changes anything, problem is trying to come up with something to compliment at this point.
How about complementing men THE SAME way YOU (as women) like to be complemented? "Your hot!" "You really turn me on!" "You are the center of my universe!" "When I'm with you, I feel really alive!" The truth is, typically, women rarely compliment men at all - especially after they have gained any kind of a commitment from a man. I dated a woman for several months and finally broke up with her because I didn't feel as though she liked or appreciated me. When I told her of my intended split, all she had to say was, "Oh, great. Now I have to go back to just regular sex with regular men." What exactly did THAT mean? Obviously she was using me only for sex - but even a compliment in that arena may have been enough to keep the relationship going a little longer. Bottom line is this: Men will leave IF they don't feel loved AND appreciated. Not so much unlike you - huh???
