Ok I have just one question. How are you going to get to the hood latch behind the grill????
The hood latch is still easily released from above the grill.
Even after reading the replt, I still do not see how to reach the hood release.

I’ve had mine for a couple years now and never had any problems opening my hood.
Go out on your Tacoma and try it. Lift the hood as far as it goes and stick your finger in and down then just push the latch and your good.

You can access the latch from above the grill and under the hood.

Very interested! You mentioned the holes were 1/4 " but how thick is it? And what material is it? Aluminum? Steel?
The material is 1/16" thick Aluminum. We no longer stock the pre-made round hole mesh version, but we do have a slotted version that we regularly stock now.

I'm wondering if this new grill can withstand a bird strike or small road debris
I would say that the new grille can withstand a "reasonable" amount of damage. I've seen small bird strikes at lower speeds that slightly dent the mesh, and I've also seen buzzards get hit while at highway speeds with massive damage done. We have a handful of pictures from customers who have been in accidents and the grilles typically hold up as good or better than the surrounding components.
You cut off the grill mounting tabs so how do you mount the grill?
I believe 2 of the 7 mounting tabs were cut. 5 tabs still remain to mount the grille to the vehicle.

What are the options used in this video? What option do i choose to get the big black letters? Also is this small perf or perf? gloss or flat? This is a great kit and will purchase soon.
Hello. The product options used in this video was Flat Black Small Perf Mesh, with the 2.5" OEM TOYOTA Emblem.

Can you get the "Toyota" emblem in the same silver/gray finish as used on a TRD Pro Grill?
Sure, that would be possible. We'd just need you to provide us with the paint code for it.

Any suggestions on specific tools to use? Specific models and brands of Saw and Dremel?
I like the standard corded Dremel that's easily available everywhere. As for an open ended saw blade, I prefer the Dewalt version.
So is it 1/2" or 1 1/2" from painted edge? I'm using 1/2" painters tape all the way around and it doesn't look as close to the center of where the bars used to be.
At 1:05 into the video I show where the cut line is determined and measured. I'm not sure how else to better illustrate the depth of the cut.
So doing this grill conversion means you lose two of the connection brackets on the top center? How do you remedy the loss of these brackets?
There is no remedy. The installs we've seen so far seem to be ok without them.
Is one tube of the goop enough for this project ?
One is cutting it close. You might want to grab a 2nd one just to be safe.

I want to do this but I'm terrified of buying a grill then just messing it up with cutting wrong
It's a little bit of a gut check when you start on it for the first time. When we first started doing these types of mods we'd make the first cuts a little deeper back and then slowly and carefully refine them. It's slower but gives a little more of a buffer for mistakes.
Was this grill assembly an Toyota Genuine Part or an OEM Aftermarket?
This was done on a new genuine Toyota grill that we purchased directly from Toyota.

The factory grills add quite a bit to the cost of the full replacement pieces and the shipping is quite high due to the size of the package. The last one we did with mesh and letters installed was around $500 shipped.
How do you pop open the hood using the second hood latch?

Doesnt this interfere with hoodnopening?
Yes & No. You can't access the lever that's normally on the inside part of the grill but you can still access it from above the grill. You can try it now before modification, it's a little different but still possible to open.
How do you open the hood after this mod?!
Lift the hood, place finger between hood & grill, and then push the lever.

Hi, we do offer mesh pieces with the logo pre-installed. At this time though, we do not offer full replacement grills where the mesh is pre-installed on the oem grill.

I don't have anything for one of those yet, currently the oldest we offer is the 1998 Tacoma. A 1995 T100 is something we could probably make. I'd need you to send over a grille for us to make it though. Feel free to email ( info@customcargrills.com ) if this is something you'd like to do.

Maybe. I'm not sure what you are referring to be "stock grill mesh". The 2001-04 grilles don't really have a mesh in them, so I'm not sure what you're looking for. Feel free to email me ( info@customcargrills.com ) an example of the mesh you want and I'll see what I can do.
