  • The 2024 Yamaha MT-07 and Yamaha XSR700 have arrived, and although Yamaha puts these in separate categories on their website, and prices them differently, do they really appeal to a different market? That's what I examine in this video. Want to see these bikes for yourself? Check them out by connecting with the awesome team at Maclean's Sports here: www.macleanssports.com

    Thanks for the detailed comparison on these two similar style bikes. Twin Cylinder engines, XSR700 good on fuel at about 58 mph with a 3.7 gallon tank from yamahamotorsports.

    I think we all know the truth. The MT-07 is more feature rich and the XSR has no justification of being more expensive. I believe they know their target market. The MT-07 is much more youthful, so a younger audience. And with that, priced accordingly. I’ve found with my age the retro styling is much more appealing and I have more expendable income than your typical early 20 something. Market research and understanding of financial capabilities of the target audience has priced these bikes.

    Sat on both and purchased the MT07 . The TFT screen is really good , only issue is it can look a bit “ iPad “ stuck on , but in dark or bright day light it can be seen very easily. Only con I can find with this bike is the key ignition placement. I wouldn’t have mind if the seat release key hole down low beside the seat , doubled up as ignition too .

    Good video I normally recommend the XRS to people who want a retro-looking bike but have a commute where they're going to spend a large amounts of time over 70 miles an hour

    I like the xsr 700 1, I like the looks , 2 one piece flatter seat 3, I like the handle bar that is free to mount my Navi etc.4 seating knee angle is more relaxed compared to the MT. Don’t like that it is more expensive than the MT07. I had only owned one bike the YAMAHA RX 100 bought in 1998 & the XSR has similar retro looks. I don’t like the silencer on the XSR , I love the silencer on the CB650 R that is a close competition & would be my choice at the moment. I do plan to test ride the XSR700.

      @@1337Charger It turned into a MT-07 and MT-10SP ride. I now dislike the MT-07 at a visceral level and will never in my life recommend one to anyone.

    At 6’4 240 , should I be looking more at mt09sps or xsr900s? I’m a responsible rider, to be honest it’s always scared the shit out of me to ride but I’ve overcome my fears and got my license. So I’m not worried about having too much power. I’m more worried about being underpowered and getting bored of the bike with my size and weight. I’m 32 , what do you think Peter? I’m a noob so bare with me 😅 .

      @PeterLoweOne  3 месяца назад +1

      Either bike is PLENTY of power for you. I've owned and driven cars with less horsepower! So it's going to come down to what you find most comfortable for you. It looks like you've narrowed your opinions down to one brand, and two bikes that are similar in their feature set. They may be the right bikes for you, but especially if you have limited experience, do yourself a favour and go try out LOTS of brands, even if you just sit on them, and that's it. Try lots of styles too. Personally I don't like the seating position of many cruiser bikes, but a LOT of people find them to be really comfortable, and more suited for them. Before you spend that much money on a bike, sit on a variety of styles. Adventure bikes, Cruisers, sport bikes etc. That can help confirm that what you like is what you want. Between the two that you mention, they're pretty similar, so it will come down to what you like about one over the other. I hope that helps a little bit. One final piece of advice is to remember that EVERY motorcycle is a compromise. No one bike does it all. Being happy with a bike isn't just about liking what you have, it's about being comfortable with what you don't have. A sport bike is amazing around a race track, but uncomfortable on a tour. So make sure you are comfortable with what you're NOT getting as much as you're comfortable with what you ARE getting. Also, don't be afraid to buy a less powerful bike to try for a few years and sell it. That's better than buying an expensive bike and having to sell it because it was never the right bike.

      I will tell you if you haven’t already figured it out for yourself that it’s not the power that will concern you it’s the size and suspension of an mt07 that will likely feel inadequate. There are tons on the used market so go check one out and sit on it and try and take one for a ride. They’re small bikes and the suspension is going to feel pretty clapped out if you’re that big of a boy as it’s very humble budget suspension.

    Cant go wrong on either...just cant understand the styling of both headlights being too far from instrument display,the gap is too wide and creates a "hunchback" look.The MT07 is not photogenic it looks much better in the actual unit.

    All they had to do was use the same paint on the MT's engine that they used on the rest of the frame. Why would they want that standing out? It doesn't match anything!

    Good bikes but pretty darned ugly compared to the beauties Yamaha used to produce imho of course. The exhaust is a disgrace and is so discoloured it looks old and knackered. The headlight assembly on the blue one is ridiculously ugly but seems to be all the craze nowadays.
