Yes. I have played Yoshi's Island on GBA and I'm aware of it. There are a few differences between the two versions. The resolution is smaller than the original SNES release and the colors on the game are jumped up. They did this because the lack of a backlight on the original GBA meant they had to make some games brighter so you could see them. Yoshi's Island on the SNES used the Super FX 2 chip, GBA didn't use that. Some visuals look different because of this. Also, the GBA lacks two extra buttons X and Y (X wasn't used in the original game anyway). Instead the GBA only has B and A. This means the controls are a little different and laid out in a different way as well. It's not an awful port but it's still a port. The original game runs a bit different and what we are seeing on the SNES Classic is the original game code being emulated and not the GBA version. When I said the game hasn't been re-released since it originally came out I'm literally talking about the original game you're seeing here in this video.
Uh actually the GBA did not use the Super FX chips.. It's 32-bit ARM CPU's raw power was more than enough to do everything the SNES did with the Super FX chips.. But the real limitation of the GBA was the screen (lower resolution than CRT TVs and not to mention the color issue) and also the fact that the SNES had a dedicated sound card with it's own processor and memory banks. The GBA's sound is close but not as good.
I didn't noticed we only used walking footage until just now! I was playing the game slow at points to gauge the visuals of the stage. I wanted to see if the emulation changed anything with Super Mario World since it's the game I'm most familiar with. If you play the game too fast you can't see the finer details that you can when you play it slow.
The best thing about these isn't reliving our childhoods it's sharing our childhoods with our kids or younger siblings. The new generation will get to know classic games

@hugo fuentes No, but I had a SNES when I was 6, and I have a SNES Classic. The games hold up much better than NES games, but my favorite library is on the Wii. Super Metroid is about as good as Prime, though. Some days I like Prime more, and some days I like Super Metroid more.
As soon as I bought this I went home and played FF6. The game is a classic and a must play for anyone who's never experienced it. I think its a bit odd that they didnt include Chrono Trigger, but I can just enjoy the DS version.

The best thing this console has done in my opinion, is that we FINALLY have a version of Super Mario RPG here in Australia that you can play with the SNES controller. No Wii VC using the dumb wii controller, for the first time I was able to experience Super Mario RPG, a game that never got released here, the way it was intended. And, I loved it!
Nope, strangely, it just never got a release outside of Japan or the US, so none of Europe got it. This was common with very text heavy games and rumored the cost of releasing it so late in the SNES life cycle was also not worth it.
Im in the U.S. and grew up with SNES. I was completely unaware that there was a Super Mario RPG. Completely new to me. Haven't really gotten into it yet, but I will. P.S. American SNES with purple buttons is better! :-p :-D

There's actually an interesting story behind why the SNES port of Doom is the way it is. Furthermore as bad as the port is in most regards its literally the best that could have been done. It pushed the system more than any other game before or after it.
I love the system. I love the extra save function. I really love sf2. The game can be beaten in very small amounts of time, and it ought to be. The game feels like an easier, and a little more fun and exploratory Star Fox experience. You can pick two Star Fox members, with two new girls on the team. Everyone has different stats, and my team is almost always slippy and miyu. I’ve already beaten it twice, and I won’t stop until rank A.
Honestly I think the NES Classic must’ve been super common out in the UK. I’ve seen 3 of them just sitting in pawn shops like CEX. My mum even brought one for my younger brother!
Does anyone actually consider Yoshi's Island to be Super Mario World 2? It's pretty obvious Nintendo attached that label to it in order to help it sell.
The thing about Dream Course is that while the single player is just another boring golf game, multiplayer might be the most backstabbing, cutthroat, friendship ruining experience short of Mario Kart and Mario Party. Every mechanic in that mode is fine-tuned to cause sudden comebacks and upsets. I would highly recommend that anyone with a SNES Classic grab a friend and play at least one round of Dream Course multiplayer.
I love it. Gets better and better each level in with all the power ups and other course obstacles. If you think it's a golf game you really didn't give it a chance, it's a puzzle game with some real time elements too
As a kid, I played Hyperstone Heist on Genesis which was basically a Turtles in Time port. While I still like it, having now played Turtles In Time, I can honestly say I missed out by not having a SNES growing up.
I have to disagree with you on Kirby's Dream Course. I absolutely love that game and really enjoyed my first opportunity as a kid to experience the game of golf. I'm sure they had the ability to increase storage with no issues ;)
Couldn’t agree more. I have the NES Classic and the SNES classic and will be getting the SEGA Classic in September. I would like a PlayStation classic but damn does it suck. Not even for $20 is it worth it. My only complaint with the SNES and NES classics is the lack of being able to return to the home screen without physically getting up and restarting the system.
Ironically enough my mom knows I was beginning for a NES or SNES and we saw the classics done out and we talked about getting them so I assumed that's what I was getting for my birthday pr Christmas but amazingly enough my mom found an original SNES and found like 20 something games including star fox and super Mario and super metroid and now we are talking about getting even more games idk I just though it was cool to share that
Sure. But this guy just went on and on about how great Star Fox looks and I'm sorry, but they looked like shit even back then. I mean, the whole reason they didn't release Star Fox 2 was because the Playstation was out and they were embarrassed by how bad it looked in comparison.
I've swapped the controller shells of one of the NES Classic Edition controllers with one of my old beat up NES controllers to use on the actual NES, and it works gloriously. I'd be tempted to do the same with one of my SNES Classic Edition controllers if I had an actual SNES
It’s one of the few games I haven’t tried yet. I did play quite a bit of Kirby Super Star though. But I know Dream Course is basically a golf game so it’s completely different. I’ll try it eventually.
It's really well known for it's multiplayer. Idk just having a buddy playin a kirby skinned golf game with you versus playing in your room all alone really is somethin
2:43 Honestly, My preferred definition when playing Super Mario World, is Super Mario Advance 2 with the color restoration patch. I kinda wish there was an extra patch that replaced Luigi's sprites with the ones from SMAS+SMW, but I'm fine with just the restored colors.
As someone who's favorite Punchout! game is also Super Punchout!, it hurt my soul to see that footage of Piston Hurricane not being absolutely decimated in 8 seconds.
That's what's got me confused. His voice makes him sound like he's only 14 or 15, but then how does he know so much about this era of gaming if that's his age?....hmmmm lol
It's quite well praised, but not many people had physical copies of it, so it was kind of a late blooming cult classic thanks to emulation and roms. I was lucky/ unlucky enough to have some kid I trade borrowed a game with, never returned my Star Fox, so I ended up keeping Super Mario RPG.
Sunset Riders and/or Zombies Ate My Neighbors and/or Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. That would've made it just about SNES perfect. But A Link to the Past is my all time favorite anyway.
As someone who's ignorant about these things. Do they remake the classic games for the updated system? Or can you play the classic games on this type of system? I'm basically asking, would it be better to just buy a new original SNES system, or the other version?
Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island is the best game ever. EVER. Yeah it may have "Mario World" in the title but it isn't fair to compare it to the first, they're both just so incredibly different. You have to think of Yoshi's Island as more of a spin-off title using Mario assets.
This is a great package. I agree that Chrono Trigger would have been nice. I also would have loved Sim City, NBA Jam and Super Tecmo Bowl (SNES version); such nostalgia...
I personally bought it for Earthbound and ALTTP (I have yet to finish Mother 1 before i plug it in though), and there are a lot of games I've never played, and I'm looking forward to them too !
@@adrikrotten880 Um, most people I know got it for Mario World and Yoshi's Island, and one mate of mine got it PURELY for StarWing 2. I'm fairly sure those aren't Square games.
I think it might be because I actually do enjoy golf games, but Kirby's Dream Course isn't a bad game at all. It is, however, definitely improved with a friend. The competition and being able to steal the stars changes the dynamic entirely. :D
Can’t believe they didn’t add Sunset Riders or TMNT: Turtles in Time... I freakin LOVED those games lol Otherwise, seeing the games they do add makes me REALLY want to get it! Looks like fun 😊👍
I bought an HDMI to RCA conversion cable to try to play it on a CRT TV. It doesn't seem to work at all. Not on the CRT or the HD Flat screen. I was a little bummed out about that. I realize there is a CRT filter, but I have an old tube tv in my room and wanted to be able to play it in my living or lying down in my bedroom. Other than that, I love this system. Even without modding it for more games it is great! Thanks for the video! 👍
To the guy at Rerez (which is Shane): Contra Hard Corps is on the Sega Genesis Mini, so if you (and other people) want THAT particular Contra game, you can get a Sega Genesis Mini. I am sure that Rerez will review (or show off) the Sega Genesis Mini at some point or another in the future (if Rerez hasn't done that already).
You don't understand how excited I am for mine to come in the mail this thursday. I found one open box condition for hundred bucks. Pretty good deal considering a brand new one on Amazon is 300 bucks
Neither do I, I grew up with the GBA version of the game and when I eventually played the SNES original I found more annoying the fact that Yoshi didn't have his signature voice.
Well, it's annoying, but I've heard worse. Honestly, I think the crying is *_SUPPOSED TO BE annoying_* so you really wanna get that child back on the saddle.
Chaos89P in contrast, that sound was too annoying that it just killed my mood and made me to keep shitty baby Mario out of the saddle, turn off the game to never come back. Annoying for bad.
OMG! Seeing you review bad consoles is fun, but seeing you review GOOD consoles is a refreshing change! And I agree they need to get the sequels of these games on a "classic" console!
Ok but I still dont get the point, Its just an emulator with a fancy UI and limited games in a NES looking box. You can get a bigger game library, more customisation, endless UIs and identical controllers for free (except the controllers but they cost like 10$) and you can even get a Raspberry Pi Zero W for 15$, put that in a NES designed case (which you can get for like 5$ somewhere online) and not only can you play NES games but you can also emulate pretty much every console and computer up to the Playstation 1 and you can watch movies, browse the web and do other stuff. Its also a lot more fun to build something yourself.
Great stuff, quality. Ace collection of games. Not long played through myself for my own equivalent video. When I played Castlevania 4 I couldn't quite put my finger on what felt 'odd' about it, but you solved it for me; the 'NES Like' game design- thank you sir x
100% agree with your opinion on Star Fox 2. I love this game and it’s incredible how much they got out of this game with the power they had at the time.
12:55 Not correct. The Game has been re-released twice. It was fully ported to Gameboy Advance as Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island, and the Gameboy Advance version was later released on the 3DS Virtual Console. It simply hadn't been re-released for home consoles yet.
I just don't know how much more I can manage to watch being so Green With Envy! I mean I want one of these babies so badly that it hurts! But keep on being cool my brother... keep on being cool!
i love this machine, but i disagree with you wanting the whole Japanese games on here. this was designed for the western audience. and that means western titles.
the game was finished yet never released more people would be willing to play a game that has a long legacy of never being released rather than some game that was just not released in the west and didn't have a very large cult following
Aw, that's too bad that you didn't enjoy Kirby's Dream Course. Did you play it with another person or just single player? My younger sister and I have tons of fun playing that game together and it always ends up in lots of screaming and laughter. I hadn't actually looked at the complete games list for this console and I'm super pleased to see that Nintendo included it. I might just pick one up now even though I own most of the games on it from back when I was a kid.
Did you know there was a version of Street Fighter 2 Turbo that wasn't Hyper Fighting or Championship Edition? Because I happen to have it and for some reason there is very little info on it. From what I understand though, it doesn't have as much stuff as either of those other two versions.

Not even for $20 is it worth it. My only complaint with the SNES and NES classics is the lack of being able to return to the home screen without physically getting up and restarting the system.
Ironically enough my mom knows I was beginning for a NES or SNES and we saw the classics done out and we talked about getting them so I assumed that's what I was getting for my birthday pr Christmas but amazingly enough my mom found an original SNES and found like 20 something games including star fox and super Mario and super metroid and now we are talking about getting even more games idk I just though it was cool to share that
Cool
Nothing beats the original experience.
I COMPLETELY agree with Rerez with his review with star fox 2.
So you think that game looks... good?
Well SlowBurne......
Take a grain of salt for the fact that star fox 2 was supposed to be released almost 2 decades ago...
Sure. But this guy just went on and on about how great Star Fox looks and I'm sorry, but they looked like shit even back then. I mean, the whole reason they didn't release Star Fox 2 was because the Playstation was out and they were embarrassed by how bad it looked in comparison.
Actually no.... It was because the N64 rolled around and it got shelved
Besides it was a successor to the original star fox
I've swapped the controller shells of one of the NES Classic Edition controllers with one of my old beat up NES controllers to use on the actual NES, and it works gloriously. I'd be tempted to do the same with one of my SNES Classic Edition controllers if I had an actual SNES
Hey kirbys dreamcourse is an awesome 2 player experience. Lol I know I can't be alone here
Eated Cookies Hell yeah! I'm not huge on the single player but few games beat Dream Course in couch multiplayer for me
KDC is my favorite Kirby game.
It’s one of the few games I haven’t tried yet. I did play quite a bit of Kirby Super Star though. But I know Dream Course is basically a golf game so it’s completely different. I’ll try it eventually.
Kirby's Dream Course is what my friends and I played when we had to go inside after sunset during the summer.
It's a 9/10, they should've replaced dream course with Dream land 3.
Nah more like Chrono Trigger
Especially since it was so rare that I never knew it even existed until my early 30s... SNES in 1997 wasn't a great time.
I love them both
Yeah absolutely
Dream Land 3 is underrated and deserved to be there
I just got the SNES classic, and I love the machine. The games are awesome and the controllers are amazing.
Wasn't this on rerez 2
As someone who's favorite Punchout! game is also Super Punchout!, it hurt my soul to see that footage of Piston Hurricane not being absolutely decimated in 8 seconds.
Same, I usually knock him out in 10 sec's
Do you know how emulation works? If the console lost fps then the emulator will too 4:39
nicholas dean umm no not at all
No it won’t. The emulators are capable of running a game at higher FPS. The console on the other hand will lag because of it’s old tech.
Thanks for sharing this video and the picture quality at 720p is really good. Don't let negative people get you down.
That voice gets annoying really quick but good vid otherwise
That's what's got me confused. His voice makes him sound like he's only 14 or 15, but then how does he know so much about this era of gaming if that's his age?....hmmmm lol
i found the count down voice anoying but not the real one
@@cloudy7971 - I had to skip when he said " Super Mario RPG: *Legend of the Seven Stars* " when he could have just said "Super Mario RPG".
The jump from 8 to 16 bit is absolutely killer
Mario and the seven stars is a super underrated game.
No it isn't.
It's an intriguing throwback, watching your older, calmer content. Lately, you sound so exasperated! Must be all those Just Bad Games.
if this feels like you watched it, it's from the rerez 2 channel
I want one !!! Where can i get this?
Are we just gonna ignore that he didn't Sprint in SMW
Trentelenten no we are NOT. This man must be brought to justice.
He stated in a reply to a similar comment that he was moving slower so he could record the game's detail, without it being too fast.
yes
No
Sunset Riders and/or Zombies Ate My Neighbors and/or Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. That would've made it just about SNES perfect. But A Link to the Past is my all time favorite anyway.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a unappreciated masterpiece
Is no-one going to talk about the fact that, when playing street fighter, he literally only used hadouken !? Like what kinda shit is this!??!
21 game reviews in one? Only REREZ has that kind of value!
4:14 Get the knife
As someone who's ignorant about these things. Do they remake the classic games for the updated system? Or can you play the classic games on this type of system? I'm basically asking, would it be better to just buy a new original SNES system, or the other version?
Haven't I seen this?
That's how I feel.
Jacob and Timber Maybe in another channel
it was on rerez 2
I found a nes classic rotting on the shelf of a Eb games... now It’s in my house.
Earthbound is still one of my all time favorite games. I spent many hours of my childhood playing that one
Chrono Trigger, Turtles in Time, Pilotwings, and ActRaiser would have really rounded out this package to an eleven. 😑
Great video
Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island is the best game ever. EVER. Yeah it may have "Mario World" in the title but it isn't fair to compare it to the first, they're both just so incredibly different. You have to think of Yoshi's Island as more of a spin-off title using Mario assets.
This is a great package.
I agree that Chrono Trigger would have been nice.
I also would have loved Sim City, NBA Jam and Super Tecmo Bowl (SNES version); such nostalgia...
All 3 of those games are underrated games for the SNES
Did they make this with longer controller cords (compared to the Nes Classic) ?
Do you play Nintendo on a 2000 inch TV?
What about the 5 Japanese-exclusive SNES Classic Games? Don’t worry, they still got 21, but I wanted to hear your opinion on them, Rerez.
KingSkyLord What were they?
Fire Emblem
Penal de Pun
Gunbare Goemon
Super Formation Soccer
Super Street Fighter 2
@@MVC2fan1 hack it and you can add all of those
Sorry, no can do. Cause i don't have to.
I personally bought it for Earthbound and ALTTP (I have yet to finish Mother 1 before i plug it in though), and there are a lot of games I've never played, and I'm looking forward to them too !
That moment you realize square enix sold the snes classic.
Wait really?
@@DreamRanger As in their games are the reason people bought it.
Zane Andersen not really
@@adrikrotten880 Um, most people I know got it for Mario World and Yoshi's Island, and one mate of mine got it PURELY for StarWing 2.
I'm fairly sure those aren't Square games.
I think it might be because I actually do enjoy golf games, but Kirby's Dream Course isn't a bad game at all. It is, however, definitely improved with a friend. The competition and being able to steal the stars changes the dynamic entirely. :D
This is what so y should have done with their PS one classic fiasco
Can’t believe they didn’t add Sunset Riders or TMNT: Turtles in Time... I freakin LOVED those games lol
Otherwise, seeing the games they do add makes me REALLY want to get it! Looks like fun 😊👍
Right no turtles in time like come on that sucks. I need s ok me tecmo bowl too
While it’s not my personal favorite (that would be Zelda alttp), I think Super Metroid is the best video game of all time.
They rereleased yoshi's island on gba first even if it was a toned down remake, it features extra levels though!
But they hadn't released the SNES version.
I picked up the first one and I'm gonna pick up this one as well
12:55
What about the GBA port?
You don't understand how excited I am for mine to come in the mail this thursday. I found one open box condition for hundred bucks. Pretty good deal considering a brand new one on Amazon is 300 bucks
Awesome, planned on buying my own by the end of the month or beginning of next month. How are you liking it
What? No super mario all stars???
Nope.
Not without hacking it. One I was kinda disappointed that wasn't pre-installed on it was the SNES version of Tecmo Super Bowl.
I have it on mine thanks to modding.
Well i have it for Nintendo Wii.
Don't even Ms.Pac-Man when the original nes mini have Pac-Man.😑
Now that the (M2) Sega Genesis Mini & The Turbo Grafx 16 are coming the MINI consoles wars have just beginning
TurboGrafx-16*
am I the only person who dosent mind the crying sound in yoshi’s island?😅
Neither do I, I grew up with the GBA version of the game and when I eventually played the SNES original I found more annoying the fact that Yoshi didn't have his signature voice.
Well, it's annoying, but I've heard worse. Honestly, I think the crying is *_SUPPOSED TO BE annoying_* so you really wanna get that child back on the saddle.
Chaos89P Exactly.
I don't mind the crying sound.
I wonder if they will cancel it in a few days like the NES Classic.
One more shippment and thats it. Nintendo doesn't give a single shit about their fans.
Well at least we have emulators and SNES looking bluetooth controllers.
We just got 30 on our last truck at Walmart
The Astro Gamer But not everyone can do that or has access to that.
So should i get a NES Classic edition or the SNES?
Im looking for the one with most nostalgia
NES classics are ded, so you might need to get a SNES classics.
Cooool!
Great stuff, quality. Ace collection of games. Not long played through myself for my own equivalent video. When I played Castlevania 4 I couldn't quite put my finger on what felt 'odd' about it, but you solved it for me; the 'NES Like' game design- thank you sir x
or you know, just emulate these games and buy a USB SNES controller for like $20........
BOOM, i just saved you $60, go buy some pizza with that money
I don't know how can u show so i can buy 🍕✅👍🏽
100% agree with your opinion on Star Fox 2. I love this game and it’s incredible how much they got out of this game with the power they had at the time.
its also fun to hack :)
C_cat Videogames if you hack it can you reset the hack and put it back to the way it was originally?
yes if you dump the original kernel
I wouldnt use the term "hack", more like *mod*
Hell yeah. I have an adapter that allows me to connect a USB drive to mine so now I have over 1700 games including Genesis, 32x, Sega CD.
+Rountree1985 on the new edition ? ?
0:41 Paul Rudd first acting job snes commercial.
The Europe snes looks so much better
Kainthemain I try telling people this and I always get a verbal beat down...
The American one looks more edgy
vtassos it's looks plain and boring in my opinion. The European version looks more like a game console
Kainthemain what about the Japanese version?
Kainthemain I am european, and tbh, I think it looks like shit
12:55
Not correct. The Game has been re-released twice. It was fully ported to Gameboy Advance as Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island, and the Gameboy Advance version was later released on the 3DS Virtual Console.
It simply hadn't been re-released for home consoles yet.
American SNES with purple buttons is superior! :-) :-p :-D
I think it would've been fine. Starfox 2 technically wasn't western or eastern, yet it's there.
@@TheAbsol7448 it wasn't anywhere that's why it did get released
@@doctoradventure413 Your point?
the game was finished yet never released more people would be willing to play a game that has a long legacy of never being released rather than some game that was just not released in the west and didn't have a very large cult following
Alright. That makes sense. I still don't think it would've hurt.
Can you still play original cartridge games on it?
*JUST EMULATE*
Sorry but I have a twin brother we want to play Mario kart on the snes so what do I do then
Time for speedrunning. Snes Classic in 20 hours.
Best video game system ever! Now my nieces and nephews love it too thanks to the classic!
Ok, so could u get the Super Scope for Super Scope 6?
Got one at Walmart the other day. Almost that my pants when I walked by the Nintendo display and saw one. Time to relive my childhood!!!
Shat.... Autocorrect.
Did you know there was a version of Street Fighter 2 Turbo that wasn't Hyper Fighting or Championship Edition? Because I happen to have it and for some reason there is very little info on it. From what I understand though, it doesn't have as much stuff as either of those other two versions.
You mean Street Fighter 2: World Warriors.
1:54 You keep’em Black because you can never go back.
A twisted saying I would say, also great video.
