He was the real hero in Genesis.
saw Hackett Montreal Université of MONTREAL 1974 wehn Steve ^PLlayomh his Musical Box
Love love love Narnia! ❤
I find it interesting that Steve is the most prolific former Genesis member when it comes to solo material, and he's STILL going :-) Btw, Please Don't Touch is a masterpiece.
Lovely clean tone from Steve. Can't believe he was frozen out of Genesis. His material is magical.
Yes, Tony Banks the " Freezer King" of GENESIS 😅😂!!
What a Guitar Tone! And the way Steve uses a Slide, an E-Bow, his Volume Pedal and the Roland Space Echo is simply Genius.......then again, Hackett IS a guitar Genius!
One of the finest guitarists with one of the finest guitar intro's. Steve is a genius.
This Is the best prog classic that both Kansas and genesis never wrote but what an amazing collaboration genesis and Kansas together Steve Walsh should've done more with Steve Hackett what a great collaboration
Wow, this is almost a punk version. Love it!
Brilliant. Will always be a legend. Saw him live a couple of times. Top guitarist.
One of the few times I've seen Steve Hackett play a Strat !
I LOVE Steve Walsh...but damn Pete Hicks nailed this. AMAZING!!
This guy's a pretty solid singer, but I fell in love with the version with Steve Walsh because his vocals are just so graceful and pure in the studio recording. So it's hard to listen to this with someone different.
Walsh did it so much better! No offense to this guy.
Steve Walsh in his prime is the greatest rock vocalist of all time by far. No one to this day has been able to replicate his prowess. I check on youtube for Kansas covers constantly, and yet no one dares to sing (or at least no one comes close to sounding like him) any of his powerful songs during his tenure at Kansas (except for the cliche Kansas hits).
I read the Steve Walsh version was squashed by the record label because they didn't want people to think this was a Kansas song.
While his vocals are distinct, this does not feel like Kansas and listeners would have easily known it wasn't Kansas.
@@smickleberrystew8698 SW is a great singer for sure, but Geddy Lee had a fair set of pipes, right?
@@watson946 Geddy was awesome, actually in my top 3. He had amazing range but he lacked the precision Walsh had. Of course, this is just my opinion and nobody else has the same one. However, I think Walsh is the greatest ever prog singer for sure. No one comes close to him in this genre.
Steve can make one guitar sound like an entire orchestra.
I was more upset when he left then I was over Peter Gabriel leaving
Along with Frank Zappa, Steve Hackett is my favourite guitarist of all. And finally getting an E Bow after all these years means those lovely sustained guitar passages Steve is so famous for aren't totally out of reach !
terrypussypower Steve uses Fernandes Les Paul sustainer guitars nowadays.
Anthony Hobson Yeah, I know. I have one myself. They're amazing. And not that expensive, considering the outstanding quality. If it's good enough for Steve......!
Bravo Mr Hackett, if only genesis would of accepted more of your tunes and ideas on their albums? They should of made more double albums to fit more of hacketts stuff on?!
Bloody great. Thanx for postin' it. CHEERS !!
"Oh, there troubled with snow covered peaks 'til the end of time......
We know you're a daughter of Eve and a friend of mine......"
Incredible song by the Master of all Guitars!!
I love how they made the ending fade out!
Hackett with a STRAT!! I hear Genesis flavors all over this song. People don't realize how much of a contribution Steve Hackett made to the Genesis sound. I would argue this would have made it onto whatever the record "And Then There Were Three" would be had Hackett stayed for another album.
Nice job on covering Steve Walsh's original vocals.
For the record, this tune was on "Please Don't Touch", not "Spectral Mornings", but it's an awesome album, as well.
Happy birthday Maestro!
wow !
it crawled me a part of that music !
Hackett Rules
Brilliant
This and Icarus Ascending, with Ritchie Havens, are my favorite Hackett songs.
master Prog Hackett merci
Smile of genius
As far as the guitar effects go, the defining piece here is the EMS Synthi Hi-Fli which was a multi-effects unit for instruments and sat up on a stand for the players convenience. I think it is visible here a little off at side stage, Hackett also put the old Taurus (Moog) pedals up on a stand for a switch. He showed me what a hammer-on was!!
Outstanding! I thought that was Walsh for a minute- great range!
You couldn't seriously think that was Steve Walsh.
Good singer, you have to say.
@maximumsatann I don't know that he was exactly frozen out of Genesis. They were all such strong writers it must have been difficult to get all of their own bits in that they wanted. Genesis did rehearse Please Don't Touch with Steve Hackett. Can you imagine how great that would have sounded?
I ordered the DVD just a few minutes ago. :)
Steve Play on the show the second song with a Stratocaster ( because have tremolo bar ) he right now have a Fernandes Monterrey les Paul gold top and black beauty custom fernandes both with Floyd and sustainers and he play the song with genesis “: in that quiet earth “ from Wind and Wuthering “ 1977 and Wot Gorilla “ are the songs played with Genesis performed and recorded with a fender Stratocaster.
Looking forward to Genesis Revisted.
my God
3rd string to G#! E MAJOR! it works!
lol at the cheeky thumbs up at the start
oops I knew that but I meant to write that Spectral is one of my favourite albums of all and this tune is also one of my favourite songs of all hence 2 favourites in the all time category lol but I flubbed grammatically on my wording
On the album, it's Steve Walsh of Kansas singing
And he does a load of a better job than this guy.
Ok! Gracias por el dato jeff99az
steve has a christmas no one with this ? yes
Steveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
this is one of my favourite songs of all. I love the Walsh vocals they're so much better . These sound a bit thin but I don't care, the melodic, beautiful folkiness of most of this song seems so British to me esp where the rock tempo hits that lovely melodic part again in the bridge. Lovely crystaline sound on the guitar -. Hackett is such an understated great player & Spectral Mornings is a wondeful album. aww I miss real rock, sorry I say this over & over but I just do do.
That's Terry Bozzio Ion drums, right around the "Baby Snakes" (Zappa) years...
That singer nailed this vocal. Not easy to copy Steve Walsh.
he was supp^sed to be in Montreal july 1979...and they cancelled the concert,,,never knew why
credits say pete hicks was singing?
They should have used the original studio version for the movie! People would have found out how great an artist SH is and it would have reaped him some great financial rewards too I bet!
This is my favorite Hackett tune, and one of my favorite songs, period. But, I agree, it was great, but would've been much better with Steve Walsh on vocals. This wasn't bad, just that Walsh was so good for this song.
Este tema tiene un comienzo similar a Poles Apart de División Bell
For anyone who cares (and I don't mean to name-drop), I was fortunate to meet & chat with Steve once in 1986. I asked him what kind of acoustic guitar he used for that warm, beautiful intro on the studio version (he plays it on electric here). He said it was a Yamaha 12-string accompanied by some "subliminal flute" (presumably very low in the mix).
I agree about the vocals here, but how do you follow Steve Walsh in his prime? That's like trying to follow God's vocals. *laugh*
@Schraegparker Like I said I'm not entirely sure but I can get a sound very similar with those effects. I'll try it out later and if its not close I'll post my new findings. Your welcome by the way.
Who is the singer in the video it’s not Steve walsh
LOUD!!
But awesome 8)
When I first heard this song, I thought it was Kerry Livegren on vocals.
Tuning confirmed, low to high: EBEG#BE.
Great song and the vocal IS very good. Pretty close to Steve Walsh's, but for me, Steve's rendition is best. Ever heard the version with John Perry on vocals? Also pretty good. There are actually 2 versions with the Steve Walsh vocal. Nothing different, vocally. It's an extended version.
@Schraegparker Delay echo & maybe a flanger?
miticooooooooooooooo steveeeeeeeeee ce GARBI NA CIFRAAAAAAAAAA
Not Steve singing but the song is still mystical, fun, and energizing..thanks for the video,,,if anyone has better video of early jacket after Genesis, please add…sweet!
Drums Rule That's Pete Hicks singing.
The tuning? 5th string to B, OK. 4th string to E? Third string?
Steve uses an E-bow for sustaining notes here; watch his right hand @3.44-3.50...
On the remastered album, there are 3 versions, if I'm not mistaken. I think the Hicks covers one of them.
Gentilseulement Nope, Hicks only joined the band in time for the _Please Don't Touch_ tour. The versions of "Narnia" from the 2005 remaster onwards have Steve Walsh on the album version and John Perry on the single version. There is also an alternate edit on the album, also sung by Steve Walsh.
Yes Mike, I believe this is Trevor Horn, now that you pointed it out. A good version of a great tune, but I still like Steve Walsh on it, better.
It's Pete Hicks on vocals
Sounds better than the original...
@playguitarbill its not trevor horn if thats what you mean!
Poles Apart - Pink Floyd anyone else hear it?
Pete Hicks on vocals.
The singer looks alot like Trevor Horn? This is a great version.
one of the song I prefer of the master...
This man was the singer of "Kansas"?
No, Steve Walsh was. Pete Hicks sang this time.
I thought that the singer was Marco Zorro
Didn't the lead singer also sing for YES at one time?
@GabrielsNob Not far off.. apparently he is an English teacher these days.
I really think Peter Gabriel would have nailed this song equally as Steve Walsh did
It was written in key of B thats petes wheelhouse
I read somewhere that the singer tried to pick up a chaps girlfriend at the gig?
le créateur de Genesis Steve Hackett mais il y a trop d idiots pour le reconnaitre
OMG, without Walsh its Juast another song, too bad
yes, great vocal but,... can never compare to Steve Walsh
Singing is actually great on this but the mix is very unflattering
he can sing a LOT better than me but I never really cared for his voice
Kerry Livgren almost never sings on any album. He doesn't consider himself a vocalist.
Péter Hicks not good
Jesus, that awful tool on vocals again.
Yuch.
