Lisa is one of the best, but she wouldn’t have dominated over Whitney and Mariah. The big five female sellers of that time were Whitney, Madonna, Mariah, Celine, and Janet. Many talented ladies were singing around that time, but they didn’t dominate these big 5. Also, when Lisa released her album, Mariah hadn’t released Butterfly. Whitney hadn’t released The Bodyguard, and Janet hadn’t released Janet. These were monster selling albums. However, instead of the vocal trinity, I’d make it a vocal quartet and add Lisa to it. She is one of the best of all time.

@@tmn8547 lol sells alone don't determine how great a singer is. I think the comment is referring to the technicality and abilities Lisa has, not to mention her beautiful timbre. Overall Lisa is one of top vocalist not because of record sells, lot of trash artists who have high records and top albums, but they are not skilled or gifted singers. Singing isn't just about record sells and if someone sounds pretty. Lisa knows how to properly use her instrument is trained throughout her entire range. Was one of the most sought back ground singers in the industry. For the record she choose not to be in the spotlight, it's not because she wasn't good enough.
@@crownx3843 no Mariah although she is a good natural singer she's not technically trained or had the skill set like Whitney. Beautiful voice but there are more trained and better vocalist then Mariah. This is coming from a former Mariah fan sorry too many other artists who are who better than Mariah she was studio artist at best.

Dont forget Minnie Riperton. Although she was before Whitney and Mariah. Minnie could do that high pitch in tune scream as well. From what I read. Lisa never wanted to go out on her own. That's one of the reasons she stayed with Luther Vandross for 22 years as his back up singer as well as other artists. Luther tried to encourage her to go solo. It was ultimately her decision if she did not want a solo career, despite what we think. We have to respect her decision and just admire her exceptional vocal ability..

Another one who did not get her just do.She can SANG and is a class act, sexy without suggestion or twerking or grinding. Luther Vandross tried to push her career to no avail and she remained humbled and toured as his back up singer. She also toured with Mick Jagger and Rolling Stones and Tina Turner. You can see Bobby Caldwell (What you want do for love ) singing backup for her on this clip.Music industry would rather promote sex and non talent instead of pure GOD gifted talent!!!!
