    Lisa Fischer was a long time backup singer for Luther Van Dross. Luther knew she was a gifted singer and pushed her to do a solo project. Lisa won a Grammy for this song, shared the award with Patti La Belle. Lisa was never comfortable being a solo act. She gave a interview and said she felt a lone on stage and being a solo act was terrifying for her.

    You had to be there at the time when Ms. Lisa Fisher, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and of course Ms. Patti LaBelle were all releasing albums and CDs around the same time...it was phenomenal!!! At the time of the release of 'So Intense', Ms. Lisa Fisher was at the top of my list...I could not stop listening to the music and that one-in-a-million kind of voice that could never be duplicated. Ms. Lisa's vocal ability and range are unlike no other. She is truly a blessing.

    Thank you for reacting to the great Lisa Fischer. I think this live version easily tops her album version. In truth, Lisa didn't want that superstar career and chose the path of being one of the greatest backup singers of all time. She sang backup for bands as diverse as the Rolling Stones, Sting, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, Teddy Pendergrass and Roberta Flack. She sang backup for Luther Vandross for 22 years. I try as hard as I can to get her name out there by requesting other reactors to react to her but most prefer to react to singers half as talented and 10 times more popular. Lisa is still beautiful, alive and performing in and around my native Brooklyn, and she can still hit that F6. IMO Lisa is as great a singer as Whitney or Mariah in their primes and is the most underrated singer and performer of her time.

      Thanks so much, Hel Gar.
      Yes!! I completely agree with you. Anybody that knows me or has subscribed to my channel. I already know how much I love Whitney and Mariah. If I think anybody is as good as them it’s Lisa Fischer! Honestly, her range is UNBELIEVABLE. I can see why so many legendary artist had her as a backup singers. That’s probably where she got her wide range of different textures in her voice. But, this is one of the most iconic vocal performances. 🙏🏾💯
      I’m so glad she’s doing well still. We all still love and support her. She definitely made her mark in our childhood and 90’s R&B music.

    • @talltulip
      @talltulip 3 года назад +6

      I was going to say what Hel Gar said, except that I would add that Lisa toured with the Rolling Stones for 26 years, and was a fan favorite, especially with her performances of Gimme Shelter, and her on-stage rapport with Mick. I, too, keep requesting this performance among the reactors I follow, but so far only one has done so. :-( So frustrating! I know she is constantly compared to Mariah and Whitney, but for my money Lisa is my favorite by far: maybe because she doesn't go crazy with the runs and fills and trills to the point where it feels like she's just showing off, but instead does what's best for the song and the message she's communicating; maybe because Lisa is such a kind, gentle and humble soul who exudes warmth and love, and would rather collaborate than go solo; maybe it's just the tone and texture of her voice that I personally prefer. I wish she were more well-known, but honestly, I'm not sure Lisa wishes that. From what I've learned from her interviews and performances, she is happy as long as she can perform in a collaborative way, performing in small intimate venues with her band, Grand Baton, and partnering with other artists. But I can't help wanting the rest of the world to acknowledge her incredible gifts.

    • @k_perry
      @k_perry 3 года назад +5

      @@talltulip I feel the exact same way. Especially the part about wanting the world to experience/acknowledge her gift. She is my favorite vocalist EVER! A true vocal masterclass all on her own. I’d just like to say what set Lisa apart was that she didn’t NEED stardom! While not common knowledge is that EVERY top rock and roll producer was trying to get her to do background parts! The fact that she was a woman who knows her worth! She seemed to love the freedom of performance more than be coddled over and the pressure to support her band. She made the decision to join THE ROLLING STONES!!!! Touring with them for the last 35 years!!!( I actually just saw this year at Sofi stadium) And everyone knows that a songbird sings best when set free!!!!

    Two more suggestions for you, if I may: Eva Cassidy and kd lang.
    Eva is a much different type of singer from Lisa, Mariah, Whitney etc. I wouldn't classify her as a "powerhouse" and she doesn't have the crazy vocal range that these other singers have. But her voice is just too beautiful to be dismissed. She passes away (from cancer) before her career had a chance to really take off, so most of her filmed/recorded live performances were in small venues and are of a much more simple, intimate nature. It's hard to pick a favorite, but here are 2 of mine: Autumn Leaves ruclips.net/video/xXBNlApwh0c/видео.html; and Somewhere Over The Rainbow ruclips.net/video/2rd8VktT8xY/видео.html. She does have more upbeat, bluesy and jazzy numbers too.
    kd lang can be a powerhouse singer when she needs to be. But she also have the capacity for tender poignant renditions as well. Here are 3 of my favorite performances: Crying ruclips.net/video/tv7S8v3rM-U/видео.html; Barefoot ruclips.net/video/I4FkncWeIRs/видео.html; and Hallelujah ruclips.net/video/P_NpxTWbovE/видео.html (and I don't even really like this song, but this performance is surpassing).
