Wheels! - Gameplay

  • Part of my Obscure First Person Shooters series: • Obscure First Person S...
    Gameplay footage from Wheels! (1998), a "power wheelchair simulation training software." In other words, a first person shooter where you, the wheelchair-bound protagonist, enter a school to cream the evil clowns and mad robots with your pies. There is no strafing. Also, it's built on Bungie's Marathon engine.
    Note: After quickly getting rocked in the first level, I load a save game that's near the end of the second level where I proceed to complete it and the subsequent third level, thus beating the entire game. Don't watch if you don't want to spoil the ending!

      MarphitimusBlackimus You going to do Damage Inc and Prime Target too? Granted only Damage Inc had a pc port, but what could be more obscure than a Mac fps advertising itself as an "Action-Packed 3D Mystery?"

    • @MarphitimusBlackimus
      @MarphitimusBlackimus  6 лет назад +7

      I've owned Damage Incorporated (the PC port) for some time, and it is indeed on my list of titles to cover, albeit still behind several others I wish to get to first. I've been wanting to check out Prime Target some day, but I haven't been able to track down a copy. While I could simply download it easy enough, I'd have to resort to some form of Mac emulation there, something I'm not at all familiar with.

      So as someone who dug through the files of Wheels!, the game's developed in the laziest way i've ever seen ever in the history of game development.. It turns out it's just marathon 2 but just *barely* modified to be different. All the original marathon 2 enemies sprites are still there but replaced with dummy sprites, and the clown has an unused (and possibly placeholder) sprite of a marathon security officer but with the clown's palette. There's even a copy of Marathon 2's unmodified original physics file sitting around. So yes, there was strafing to begin with
