Super proud to say I've beat this game ...not proud that I had to use save states lol. I'm pumped to see you beat this one in part 2 (yes thats a vote for part 2 lol)!
Herpes is my favorite Battletoad. This is a great example of a game that is simultaneously brilliant and extremely frustrating. NES-era Rare at its finest.
I've always liked Ryu but I think one huge reason is that his editing of his videos has no excess BS. I happened across a super popular YTer playing a Lego game and literally every 10 seconds there was an extreme closeup of his face with a sound effect or the camera tilted or even when there was no expression.. it was like he had a quota of closeups to meet. Ryu is just a cool dude with skill
Your patience is astounding. Me and my friend had the same birthday as kids, and he came to spend the night. I got Battletoads and we played for hours just trying to get past the Turbo Tunnel stage. Frustrated, we took solace in the fact that he also got a game. TMNT. Worst birthday ever. We ended up just playing battle mode in SMB3 and Base Wars like we always did.
Thanks for playing this one! It means a lot that you care about what your fans want to see :) If you enjoyed it enough, you should play Battletoads in Battlemaniacs. That's the one I remember most
You know what's crazy is trying to do this with two people. It's one thing to worry about your own reactions but when someone regularly ruins everything by slamming into stuff...it makes you want to kill them. And yes, I was that person. I can't believe my husband married me after the hell I put him through with this game. Also, you have my vote for part 2!!
2P was hilarious. Especially if your friend accidentally head-butted you or something & you punch him back to make things square - it'd start an all-out war and you both would end up kicking the shit out of each other (in the game, that is!) :D
Awesome job! Part 2 would be amazing. You're going to find combat easier if you dash at enemies and attack to do headbutts (that's how you generally deal with guys like the stage 5 miniboss or the snowmen).
10:00 no, jumping over them is exactly what you want to do. The most consistent way I found, where I practically never get hit by them, is the following: stay at the top, jump over the first two robots , wait a little and then jump over the rest. 🙃 Edit: I have to say you are picking up on potential strategies and patterns very quickly, I am having a blast watching you play! 😄
I have beaten this game on sega genesis with broken d-pad when i was a kid. My thumbs were literally bleeding back then, because of the broken d-pad. That’s how much i loved this game. If you don’t have a good d-pad you’ll have a hard time on stage 11. Maybe on stage 10 too, if i remember correctly. Where you’ll race with a rat kangaroo hybrid thingy. Game will be easy if you collect enough lives from crows on stage 2.
I could never get past the 3rd level as a kid, but going back to the game as an adult I was actually able to beat the entire game without using a continue. Its really nice to see that I've truly developed and gotten better as a gamer over the years. I could pass the 3rd level on my first try, once I got the hang of it, pretty much every time. Some of the levels later on are actually quite a bit harder. Pro Tip: The second level is ample for gaining extra lives by juggling the crows.
Ryu: let me knows if you guys want a part 2 Litterally everyone : PLEASE WE WANT A PART TWO PLS FOR THE LOVE OF THE TOAD GODS Ryu: Hey guys another super mario maker expert no skip here YAHOOO
You should play Ghost n Goblins. It is reallly really difficult. And when you think you have beaten it it tells you to play it one more time for the real ending.
This was one of my favorite videos from you, and honesty from VG creators in general. I was dying laughing. Never watching a runthrough of this game prior to this made it that much more enjoyable. What a ridiculous friggen game! Gonna go watch Pt 2 now
It never ceases to amaze me how good you are at/how far you get in your first attempts at these super hard games. My best friend had battletoads as a kid, and we never made it passed the turbo tunnel(playing 2 player probably didn't help much either.)
@VADER well, that's what you get for thinking apparently lol. The reason many of these old NES games are as hard as they are is the game was intended for, or ported from, an arcade platform. Arcade games are designed to be extremely hard so people would keep plugging quarters into the machine to continue, therefore it would take practice, pattern recognition and memorization more than skill to complete. It also added play value as you had to keep trying to get further and eventually complete. I'm not sure if they made a battletoads arcade version specifically, but many of the old NES games were of similar difficulty ranges because that's what developers were used to.
Oooh, played countless hours of this as a kid. My cousin was a wiz at Battletoads, and he consistently got us through the speed bike area (I never made it past the first check point lol!). He was also evidently a pro at getting the warp at the end of the bike race because, although I'm sure we racked up countless hours of 'toads play over the years, I do not recall EVER seeing that ice stage. For me, it went speeder bikes -> surfing -> snakes -> end. I wonder if my cousin is still good at this game; this video gave me some hard nostalgia... I should call him up. :)
Best game on the NES hands down. Double-tap left or right to run & then hit b-button to enable the ram head-butt or power boot if they're already down. In 2nd level you can go to the side of the cavern to turn yourself into the wrecking ball & then hit b button to go crashing over to the other side & destroy anything in your way.
Ryu mentioned AVGN. Its like a deity fondly tips the proverbial hat in the direction of another deity. There's a lesson to learn there for all of us. Love the channel Ryu!🍻
Never played this game myself but I love the classic AVGN episode and saw also a really detailed playthrough of this game in the channel. While I agree that it's one of the hardest games on NES, it always felt a bit unfair to me since you have to memorize every part of the game to be ever able to beat it. Then again, I guess that's the spirit of most hard NES games. The latter half of the game is absolutely insane, but from what I have seen I'm absolutely sure you can beat it and another episode or a live stream would be splendid! :-)
Wow. Never seen this much of this game. Also shout out to you continuing after that game over. I would have had a long thought about whether or not it was worth the stress for a video lol
Another vote here for Part 2. After you've conquered Battletoads, how about Ghostbusters 2? Just all kinds of crazy, especially with the Ectomobile levels-which are like the speedbike levels only randomzed; I haven't been able to beat it with save states since the obstacles are in a different spot after you load. Add to that that you have to complete the last level 4 times in a row (once with each Ghostbuster), and you have yourself an Extraordinarily Hard Game.
This game is my bread and butter; one of my absolute favorites on the NES. If anyone is struggling somewhere in it, let me know and I'll give you some tips with wherever you're having trouble.
I gave way too much of my life to this game at age 10. I never beat the turbo tunnel without a Game Genie. And it was the most brutal multi-player experience ever. If one of you bites it at any point, both of you go back to the start.
This is a awesome new series! So many super difficult games, especially on NES such as Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, and Punch Out. When you get to Genesis, I recommend Xmen or Altered Beast.
To this day, I still haven't finished this game. I was 14 years old when I first played this on my NES. I'm waiting to give this game another try if it gets released on the Nintendo Switch Online.
The developers of this game sure had a mean streak. I never got as far as the hoverboard section only ever got to the snowmen. I wanted to love this game, but it was so dam hard.
You need to do a part 2 to this game. Desperately. Like seriously. I think I remember back when I played it years and years ago, I only got past the level you're on right now. Barely. And I think there's a warp point in the snake level, too... Not too sure on that, though.
This is one game where using the 5 lives cheat is not considered immoral due to how hard the game is. The game is all about pattern recognitions. You don't know what is coming up so either you guess right or you die and retry it. Either way you're learning the patterns in the game slowly so you can get through it.
Yes, we would like to see you do part II (and as this gets harder, I think part III and IV) By the way, farm a lot of extra lives in 2nd stage. (Thats how I beat the game) but done this game with 2lifes as a child. Yes, I was toad nerd =P I think I could still beat this game without warping.. but not with one life.
Catching the flies and maximizing your score is essential to success. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure high score grants you extra lives. The stick is nice, but it tends to cheat you out of the best score.
That part with the blue cars? Stay at the very bottom-left and they never hit you. Also with the snowmen... as you fall down, hold down to crouch, so that the first two snowballs he throws goes over your head, and you can jump the third and crouch again. throw your own snowballs inbetween his.
I would honestly LOVE to see another episode of this. In fact, I'd like to see you complete all of the games in this series. Also, I'd like to bring light to Golgo:13 for this series. Always struggled with it as a kid. Hard and Confusing as fuck. - Gracen
You should do one of these things for Bucky O'Hare. Notoriously difficult NES game and also considered to be among the best the platform has to offer. Very fun but challenging game. Really pushed the gear limits of what they could get into an NES game similar to this one.
I'd love to see another part of Battletoads! I've been playing it since I was a kid. It's one of my favorite games. It kicks ass and breaks friendships xD Even though I just finished it twice in all the years. I think, my avarage is always the 8th stage ;-) Ryu, just one piece of advice: Never play the stage Volkmire's Inferno! Turbo Tunnel is a piece of cake against it :-) P.S.: you can run in this game
When you decided to fight the Snowman and He punched you(12:42) .... that entire sequence had me Laughing uncontrollably .... I am Still Laughing now lol .....let me replay that again .... this game brings me back .... I had a group of friends and we got together one weekend and vowed not to do anything til that game was Completed ... we all had levels that we were best at and we beat this game together and we all took credit and eventually we all were able to beat this game ....what a campaign......
In level two you have to bounce the crows to the walls to get extra lives. You can get over nine lives in that stage this way. Only way I beat the game... Lives stack over the amount seen in the upper bar.
I somehow never played this game as a kid. That first boss reminds me of the first shredder fight in Turtles in Time where you throw foot soldiers at the screen to damage him.
Fun video. Yes, do a part two. I've been on search finding the hardest NES games. Of the more known ones Ghost N Goblins and Ninja Gaiden(especially the third one) are good ones to do. The rope into the hole-arena was really a lot like the first level in the Ghostbuster II-game on the Amiga (maybe also on different consoles or computers)
Huh.. I'm early for once.. Hey ryu! Have fun on your vacation! or trip.. whatever you are doing. all I know is that you are going somewhere since I caught your last stream.
Gotta do a Part 2 now, we need to know how it all turns out!
ruclips.net/video/f3H-Yk1V3KA/видео.html
Just letting you know that I would like a part 2
Same
Nick Raleigh Yes!
Definitely! Also the game seems actually good except for the trolliest level design ever. Such as 21:09 :D

Super proud to say I've beat this game
...not proud that I had to use save states lol. I'm pumped to see you beat this one in part 2 (yes thats a vote for part 2 lol)!
i got bad news for you, that means it doesn't count and you've never beaten this game ;) guess that means you have to play it again...
Well, I've beaten Battletoads w/ Game Genie before. Does that count? ;P
Looks like we know what you two need to race next...
DGR vs Ryukahr Battletoads speedrun?
How did you legit beat Clinger Winger? I can't do it. Insanely hard.
Herpes is my favorite Battletoad.
This is a great example of a game that is simultaneously brilliant and extremely frustrating. NES-era Rare at its finest.
I've always liked Ryu but I think one huge reason is that his editing of his videos has no excess BS. 17:09 : "Dude, this level never ends!"
*Moves 2 inches to the right. OH!!
heres a vote for part two ryu.
ye all wanna see him die much more times
Do a part 2

So many amazing memories playing brutal NES games like this one!
I vote for a *PART 2*
This reply is dedicated to all of us who never got past the Turbo Tunnels.
R.I.P keep practicing
Thanks for playing this one! It means a lot that you care about what your fans want to see :)
If you enjoyed it enough, you should play Battletoads in Battlemaniacs. That's the one I remember most
Jaxon Roller Of course he cares for his fans!

Omg yes totally 😂😂😂

one of my favorite games of my childhood, it feels the older i get the games from back in the days feel doubble as hard as when i was young.

So much respect for you making it THAT far. Look forward to seeing the rest. Good luck man, you got this.

This just reminds me how people complain about games like Dark Souls now, but we had to deal with this growing up. Great video.
Ryu: let me knows if you guys want a part 2
Litterally everyone : PLEASE WE WANT A PART TWO PLS FOR THE LOVE OF THE TOAD GODS
Ryu: Hey guys another super mario maker expert no skip here YAHOOO
You should play Ghost n Goblins. It is reallly really difficult. And when you think you have beaten it it tells you to play it one more time for the real ending.
Erik Underland I had a real love/hate relationship with G&G, loved playing the game, hated how trolly the ending was when I finally got it.
Wouldn't call it really difficult but it does require full attention
Please do a part 2! This series is really fun, and I hope it isn’t too stressful to make. Keep up the great work!
Honestly, for as challenging as it is, Battletoads is still a super inventive platformer even in 2018! Definitely hyped for a Part 2!
I would also be down for a Twitch stream of Battletoads. 10/10 would watch
highly likely
This was one of my favorite videos from you, and honesty from VG creators in general. I was dying laughing. Never watching a runthrough of this game prior to this made it that much more enjoyable. What a ridiculous friggen game! Gonna go watch Pt 2 now

My best friend had battletoads as a kid, and we never made it passed the turbo tunnel(playing 2 player probably didn't help much either.)
YES! Part 2 plz :-)
The warp in the turbo tunnels almost feels like a dev exit.
I feel like this game was never playtested by the devs. A lot of these things are beyond normal human reaction time.
@VADER ya know... could be
@VADER well, that's what you get for thinking apparently lol. The reason many of these old NES games are as hard as they are is the game was intended for, or ported from, an arcade platform. Enjoyed this, glad you were able to do well. Part two for the Toads, please!
I recommend Bootsy Beats for an in-depth demonstration of how to beat the game.
Lol, that's how I beat it
You just did the final stretch of the turbo tunnell first try. You are probably the only human being on earth to do that.
I am speechless.
Ryu mentioned AVGN. Its like a deity fondly tips the proverbial hat in the direction of another deity. There's a lesson to learn there for all of us. Love the channel Ryu!🍻

This is a awesome new series! So many super difficult games, especially on NES such as Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, and Punch Out. When you get to Genesis, I recommend Xmen or Altered Beast.
8:45 the face you’ll make when you realize that the turbo tunnel has nothing on Clinger Wringer and it’s only a warmup
To this day, I still haven't finished this game. I was 14 years old when I first played this on my NES. I'm waiting to give this game another try if it gets released on the Nintendo Switch Online.
will it?? gosh I hope so cuz ima fuck this game up

It's definitly a great game to watch, please make a part 2. :-D!
I only know one person who ever passed this game...and this was in the 90s....safe to say this guy was a game guru
This video was glorious! I'd LOVE to see the first double dragon playthrough!
I never played this game in my life, but I am impressed how innovative this game is. Fun combat, interesting platforming and game hard as fuck.
This is one game where using the 5 lives cheat is not considered immoral due to how hard the game is.

He just got through the hardest part on the turbo tunnel at the first try.
Not bad 🤷🏻♂️

Of course you have to complete the game. Ehhehe. Everybody complete just the turbo tunnel. Greetings from Chile

A part 2 would be awesome! I loved this game as a kid, and I don’t know how many times I’ve beaten it. Bet there’s a warp in the snake pit.
I used to play this game when I was a kid. I could never get past that first boss with the red screen lol
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. I don't think I ever beat it. Great video. Keep it up.
I would honestly LOVE to see another episode of this.
In fact, I'd like to see you complete all of the games in this series.
Also, I'd like to bring light to Golgo:13 for this series. Always struggled with it as a kid. Hard and Confusing as fuck.
- Gracen
i remember playing this as a kid but never made it past the turbo tunnel its insane how hard it got.

Ryu, just one piece of advice: Never play the stage Volkmire's Inferno! Turbo Tunnel is a piece of cake against it :-)
P.S.: you can run in this game
Honestly dude, I give you props for making it past the turbo tunnel, good job man!
When you decided to fight the Snowman and He punched you(12:42) .... that entire sequence had me Laughing uncontrollably .... I am Still Laughing now lol .....let me replay that again .... this game brings me back .... So down for a part.... however many it takes to beat the game.
If it were me, I would definitely break down and use save states
Definitely, a part 2 is needed.
I'm definitely looking forward to a part two bro, keep up the great work xD
In level two you have to bounce the crows to the walls to get extra lives. You can get over nine lives in that stage this way. Only way I beat the game...
Lives stack over the amount seen in the upper bar.
Sick beats on the pause screen!
Also, I definitely want a part 2.
Part 2 please👍. I liked how you threw the ice cube at the snowman and realized it didn’t even hurt him haha
Amazing game, so many good (and bad) memories. Good luck beating it tho. More than 2 videos needed for sure.
Snowman used FALCON PUNCH.
It was super effective!
Ryukahr has blacked out.
Of the more really hard ones, do Ikari Warriors without the ABBA code, Starship Hector, later levels of Q*Bert or Mutant Virus.
Definitely need a part 2! I'd like to suggest Bart vs The Space Mutants for a future episode
The rope into the hole-arena was really a lot like the first level in the Ghostbuster II-game on the Amiga (maybe also on different consoles or computers)
Hahaha! I see Ryu playing one of the hardest NES classics of all time, then I press like before starting watching :)
Great video, definitely more battle toads.
I would like to see a part 2 as well. The game gets even more nuts later on.
I've never clicked play so quickly on a video before in my life!
ikr
he'd better upload the next part wuick
Never?
Great Video! You put on a demonstration of platforming prowess. Please finish the game! Part 2 for Ryu!
Love this series dude! Super fun to watch.
I’m obsessed with your channel and I just found it yesterday
Definitely would love a part 2!
lol is this your nod to avgn, really enjoying this series
He should play
Ghostbusters
Castlevania 2
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Dick Tracy
Herpes, Gonorrhea, and Crabs - what the names of our three heroes would be called if a Battletoads reboot was made in 2018.
Snowman hit him with that big show punch . I felt that throu the screen .
Please a part 2. I remember playing this game when I was a kid. please and thank you
never getting tired of that snowman mega punching ryukahr 😂😂😂😂
I laughed so hard i cried....at work hahaha
Hell yeah do a part two. I very rarely can catch you on twitch, it'd be great on RUclips
I gotta say I love this old school series
This was one of my fav games growing up
Huh.. I'm early for once.. Hey ryu! Have fun on your vacation! or trip.. whatever you are doing. all I know is that you are going somewhere since I caught your last stream.
Good stuff! Definitely part 2. Also, you should add Ghosts n’ Goblins NES to your playlist.
Moar please. Good episode.. I only played this once at a friend's house when I was 8 years old.. I want to see you finish it. :D
This series is awesome!!! Oh and can you do Jeckal n Hyde?
