Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril is a platform game for the Nintendo Entertainment System released in February 2010 by American developer Sivak Games. It is published through Retrozone with the cover art designed by Larry Bundy Jr. Battle Kid is available for purchase on Xbox Market place for Xbox One and a physical cartridge for the NES.

So happy you're enjoying the game! By the way, Room 41-01 (room after beating Boss 2) has a secret to it. You almost found the secret by accident which would have been AMAZING but sadly, you just barely missed finding it. I don't recommend finding it if you're on Very Hard mode though as it's kinda....nuts. Doing this on Very Hard is insane tbh though. You got so far, however, all things considered!! Nice job Ryu. Thanks again for playing. I knew this game would be your kind of thing :) Whenever you're ready for Battle Kid 2, let me know ;) Also, there are some post-game stages but you need the Passwords to enter them. Playing on Very Hard though will grant you all the passwords at the end of the game, if memory serves me correctly!
Btw, it was hilarious to see you bite the bullet in every place I expected you to. I am VERY excited to see you vs the 3rd boss. I am hoping your reaction is similar to mine when I first played it.

Honestly Ryu, this game pretty much offers everything you would want both as a Megaman and Mario fan. The crazy enemy placements and bosses you would see in a classic Megaman game to the crazy precision platforming you would see in Mario Maker. There were some sections in this game where it brought my mind to some of my Megaman maker levels where you have to make sort of precise movements like with those Yoku blocks.
Also, if you like this game, you should check out “I wanna be the guy” I’m pretty this game took major inspiration from that game but I wanna be the guy also hits on sone classic nes games like Punch Out, Megaman, Street Fighter, Mario, and Metroid.

@@tophateyeball7198 Yes, I noticed that as well. The general movement style, bosses, enemy attacks as well all give me the same vibe. I'm pretty confident in my assumption that this was made by someone involved with IWBTH or heavily inspired by it.
Extraordinariky easy games would be a great series. I'm introducing my kids to NES and I'd like some games where they can get past the first level themselves.
Wow you did incredibly well. I've only ever seen the Game Grumps try this game, and some rando doing a deathless run. I've gotta say, yours is the best and I would love to see you beat this one.

Ryu, have you dabbled in trying to get through the Mega Man X6 mavericks with no upgrades & buster only? I’m doing a difficulty ranking vid of them for X4 - X6, and wow… some of the mid level bosses and couple mavericks are crazy!
Very nice! I don't think I've ever seen this game, but it looks like classic NES game difficulty! 😅 I still dig these classic NES hard games as it really trains you to be patient and can be rewarding to overcome a hard obstacle! Ryu seems to be enjoying it, so I hope he keeps with it and makes another Battle Kid video!
I find it fascinating that over the years we have developed not only different tastes in video games but diffrrent philosophies on what a game should be. To live through the entire xbox/ps2 era and say "I'm gonna make a ridiculous mega man ripoff." Never would have even occurred to me.
This deserves a sequel.

Hi Ryu, I challenge you to (and would love to see you play) "Thunder Force IV" (aka "Lightening Force") on the Sega Genesis in your "Extraordinarily Hard Games series". It's a shump with great visuals and music, which is extraordinary hard (not to say just plain unfair). I can't even finish the game in the Sega Ages edition of the game on Switch by using the Kids Mode and using save states... so please do a playthrough.

Try debunking the difficulty for Mega Man 9, the super Star Wars games, Ecco the dolphin, Zelda 2, Crash Bandicoot, Getting over it with Bennett Foddy, F-Zero GX, Battletoads, Gradius, Super Meat Boy, Cuphead, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, Ikaruga, FTL: Faster Than Light, Hotline Miami, the other contra games, and many others.

Ryu, would you be interested in playing hard games on a C64 (emulator)? I was reminded of Last Ninja on the C64, and its sequels. I never finished them because they're pretty hard games.
They're isometric, the C64 is 8bit and the 64 stands for the kilobytes of RAM, so you can imagine what that combination does for your controls and hitboxes. They're pretty awful and the game punishes the player for those. I think you get a few lives. You won't immediately game over if you miss a jump or bonk on a grass tile while being chased, I think.
But! System3 did an absolutely amazing job coding and designing. They are beautiful games with amazing music. They're action games with quirky (isometric) platforming and puzzle elements. Everything about the game shows the love of the developers for literally every aspect of the games, from making a fun game that is also beautiful, to pushing the machine to its limits. Despite how badly I sucked at those games they have a very special place in my heart. I had a lot of fun sucking at those games. I bet that if you'd play them you would finish all three in just one day and not find them all that hard.
The C64 has some real gems that I think you would really enjoy. If you're looking for an easy game, Law Of The West comes to mind. And new games are still being developed, on top of a library of literally hundreds of games. I dare you to play and finish Platoon, but I do insist that you then get a tape version for that and have original hardware or set an emulator to normal loading speeds, just for the loading music that is different for each level and missing from the disk version.
You can also dowload the SID-tunes, or I can email them to you, but having them play while you're loading a new level is just that much better. And I know you will love the game, including it's terrible controls and it being totally unfair at times(which you can work around much of the time; figuring that out isn't hard and it's very fun and rewarding).
Should you read this and accept the challenge, despite my not going on discord to contact you, I have plenty of game suggestions, some of which you might like, some of which you won't, but I'm certain you would appreciate those games very much regardless, even if you don't want to play them. I might even install and go on discord to help you out. But there are probably plenty of C64 lovers there that will love to do that and have plenty of game suggestions that I never even knew of.
Extraordinarily easy games: Final Fantasy IV original 1992 North American release (as 'Final Fantasy II'), Final Fantasu VII, and Final Fantasy VIII (once you figure out Junction and you realize you can turn the Cards from the Triple Triad game into broken items / magic.
of course it did. people seem to barely know how to make modern 2d platforms, they're always designed to be "hard" and just a test of patience rather than being entertaining. Bit odd as the point of video games was to be ENTERTAINING.
Now it's to waste your time with a 100+ hours of padding in a bland open world experience, or play a 2d game with no personality other than "it's a hard game". I hope we're coming out of this dark age of gaming, awesome games like kirby: forgotten land shows that good games can still be made today. There's been enough "quantity over quality" long time wasters and enough "LOLZ this game is so hard" games, time for some quality again.
This game looks fun. Have you played 'No One Can Stop Mr. Domino!' yet? THAT is hard. Also, I kind of wish the color palates were different. I think there were better options, but then again, I don't know the ins and outs of NES game color limitations. Could have just been impossible to manage without compromising the color of an enemy or something, right?
Just a few seconds after starting it I noticed that this was far more like I wanna be the Guy than Mega Man. Seems okay though, but definitely not for me. I'd ruin a controller or 2.
Sivak (game creator) was streaming this game on Twitch a while ago, sometimes you can find his stream. But I think it was pretty silly to not just pick infinite lives and see the whole game.

As far as i know, changing the difficulty only changes how many continues you get and the color of Timmy's shirt.
I believe easy and normal have pink short and unlimited continues

It's a great game, I did play with unlimitied continues though. I imagine to play this on the highest difficulty you got to have all the patterns hard-wired into your brain. xD

Dude Cuphead took so much from this game, the first boss is just like Cagney Carnation and the second one is like a mix between Captain Brinybeard and Dr Kahl's Robot, like it's hard to not think they got "inspiration" from this game

12:00 It's safe to say that Ryu never played a GBA Castlevania game before. You always have to go back to the save room after defeating a boss or the boss comes back when you die before getting to the next save room.
I played this game at MagFest last year on an actual NES. Almost 400 deaths on normal got me to the final boss with the damage amp (optional upgrade that's hard to get), but I had to leave before I beat him! I saved the password though so if I ever find that version of the game again I'll have my revenge.
If you are thinking about the speedruns, you should check the Unfair runs from Fragnaticc (they are on spanish, but text doest matter) from both bk1 and bk2. A lot of the rooms are automatic if you start them with the correct timing.
I would not do "very hard" mode, the game is already very hard and you don't want to have to back track. You want unlimited lives.
You always want unlimited lives. In all games. In my game, I didn't even bother to put in a life counter.
For real though, we need more battle kid. It'll be fun to watch as you progress through the game over time.

You have to play battle kid mountain of torement. if i remember back playing it, it was even tougher. And on easy mode it is the same game, just with unlimited continues.
This is certainly worthy of another look, but maybe 20 tries isn’t enough. Don’t punish yourself too much 😂
