Golden Axe - what a classic! The ingredients just came together perfectly with that - graphics, soundtrack, gameplay - made it feel special and very memorable!
Altered Beast honestly gets slagged off unfairly, likely because it was a pack in game for the Megadrive before Sonic. Altered Beast is honestly a hidden gem. 2 player coop Kung Fu Master, but you can turn into beasts? Who wouldn't want to play that! Plus the Megadrive version is the best version because of the cheat mode where you can choose what beast you want to be on each level, so of course you just use the dragon every stage lol.
Another wonderful vid. I think you've become my favourite content creator. Your back catalogue seriously helped me cope with a recent bout of depression. Thanks and keep it up! X
I love this compilation! Thank you for doing it. Phantasy Star 2 and the first Golden Axe are my favorite Genesis...or uh, Megadrive... games(as well as two of my all-time favorites).
Wow !!!! What a great video !! Sega is my fav developer !! Made the best innovative games !!! The Dreamcast is brilliant !! So is the Genesis / MegaDrive !!
Strangely, I loved Altered Beast on pc engine (although never beat it. Was hard!) And HATED Golden Axe on Speccy. Too fast and twitchy controls. Interesting to hear different views. 😊
Black Belt blew my my on the Master System as a kid. The boss fights were like a dream come true. I felt like I had an arcade at home. It was something special.
It was nice to see an Alien Syndrome I didn't know existed on the Wii. Those transformation CG clips are the best part of that "modern" PS2 Altered Beast (which is possibly also "retro" by now? I don't know, I'm old) Happy weekend everyone !
Your review of italia 90 is just perfect. Every word resonates with me and how I feel about it. The end where you refer to it as a rustlers burger is *chefs kiss* You are pretty good at it, though.
Hi Kim! nice video but to be honest the c64 version has the final level with Death Adder and also the ending sequence like the arcade. Maybe you played the first tape release of the game that, for unknown reasons, was distribuited without the last level (that's not happened with the disc version).. if you look for a c64 longplay you can see it 🙂
Hi Kim this isn't related to the video (sorry) but wondering when your streaming next? As well as enjoying the games that recurring clip of that scary guy saying "my wife.....got what it takes?" cracks me up for some reason ha
Wait. This Sega Channel. That sounds highly advanced for the mid to late 90's. Did it download the games onto a proprietary cartridge via your TV? It's way too early for streaming. I'm confused lol
I'm confused about it too. There were even some Sega Channel exclusives like Sonic Eraser and Golden Axe 3 (only in America though), which makes me even more confused about how it actually worked
@@AcornElectron Wow, that's nuts. Thank you for the info. So they ran just the same as the carts? How long did it take to download something like Sonic or Ecco to the RAM?

Shadow run looks like it’s right up my alley when it comes to gameplay/atmosphere AND….. I just searched this little emulator handheld I bought not to long ago and it has both the genesis/mega drive version and snes/super famicon version of shadow run on it Which version should I try and play first ?? I grew up on a mostly Nintendo diet when it comes to game systems but Kim you make the Sega version sound so compelling !! I’m torn, which version I should choose first ??? Decisions. Decisions.
SEGA needs to get in touch with Digital Eclipse (or another reliable developer) & put out a game compilation similar to "Atari 50". SEGA has such a vast library of games to choose from & we need updated ports of many of these games for modern consoles, along with some history from the creators behind them. From SEGA's unique vector arcade games to many consoles games for the SEGA CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, many of these games have been forgotten & need a new lease on life.
I saved for about a year to get my mega drive, then I had to save for another month and then wait 30 days for special reserve to ship my first game so I had only altered beast for a couple of months. I hated it, but I played it every day anyway!
Black guy who grew up in the hood in 82 to the early 2000s. "Beast mode" is 100000% not related to Altered beast at all. It is a simple metaphor used whenever someone is really really good at what they do.
I always disliked the Mega Drive version of Golden Axe as it felt like I had to be pixel-perfect when attacking enemies and they could swing from seemingly anywhere and make contact, it was a lot like the first Streets of Rage in that regard. These days if I want to play Golden Axe I play the arcade version.

Will never miss a chance to sing the praises of Shadowrun. An underappreciated masterpiece.

Just wanted to say that I really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work x
Ah man i absolutely frickin love it when a Kim compilation drops 😊🙌❤️
Awesome stuff, Kim. Fond memories of playing the heckington out of Altered Beast at Magic City in Norwich.
Kim, your videos are absolutely epic!
Holy fuck ..great work ....this will be a 5 part watch 😆

Great stuff! Classic gaming TV compilation up next?
Excellent! Thank you!
Picked up Aerobiz because of this video. Cheers.
4 hours with video games? I better go get some snacks!
The c64 version of altered beast looks pretty cool, in my opinion! It's the first time I'm seeing it. Great colors and pixel work.
I watched the Aerobiz one back in college time!
I loved my Mega Drive, my prized possession in my adolescence.
Cheers Kim 😊

Downloads were to ram. Once you disconnected and wiped then it was gone. Very similar to the SB from Nintendo. Saves were retainable as discussed
