That 3D rotating cylinder on the last level is amazing. I had no idea NES could do that. Granted, it's just an optical illusion, but its so smooth. I didn't plan on watching this whole video but here I am at minute 56. Great LP, great game.
This game literally has only 2 "random" moments in it. The mines in Stage 5 and the fireballs in Stage 7. The rest can just be memorized. Even the fish in stage 9 have a pattern if you play the same way every time.

@D G yea me too. Id prefer to play with friends in the couch or with my family, it is one thousands times better. Remember the days of mario kart or mario party with friends on the 64? It was a BLAST. I guess you dont play games not because your AGE, but because man we have no time for anything. I am 26, and have given up gaming because simply I have other priorities, i have no kids tho neither. But work/gym/social/self improvement eats all my time. Sucks to be an adult.
What's weird is that games with the option of offline multiplayer tend to have higher sales, so there is probably some weird secret reason for it being removed.
People around my age (38) don't have friends to get together (in person), and play games (especially retro games), cause most ppl my age don't have lifelong friends from childhood. I played tons of games in my youth with friends, but one way or another you move on from them unfortunately, and to find new ppl to get together and play nes games is very, very hard. I'm sure James and Mike's friendship goes back to childhood.
I wish the AVGN can do Battletoads Revisited Episode: *Battletoads (NES) - Revisited *Battletoads (Game Boy) *Battletoads in Ragnarok's World *Battletoads in Battlemaniacs *Battletoads & Double Dragon *Battletoads Arcade (?)
Atarster Yeah! I loved all of those games. I know for sure the original and Arcade will be in Rare Replay coming out next month. I really wish M$ would include all of it but there are tons of old Rare titles so probably not. Battletoads and Double Dragon was my go to game on SNES back in the day, always playing it.
I always forget that Battletoads is a NES game because it just looks way too good for that era. Makes sense considering it was made just a few months before the release of the SNES.
It's rare to find friends like that that still share the same interest in video games I had friends fall out with each other for not returning cartridges
Pretty fun game! You can still finish the game with two players if you can get to stage 11 with any continues remaining. Let player two game over but *not* continue, so you can beat stage 11 with one player, and then player two can press start during the blue map screen afterward and it'll use up a continue to join back in for stage 12. Hope that helps!
I think local multiplayer is one my favorite things on gaming. It’s so fun to play with your friends with them next to you. The reactions and there seems to be a kinder reaction when your friends are actually there and not behind a screen.

There were those chinese copies in my country (Georgia) and Russia too. They had different names: Dendy, Subor, ... but not Nintendo. They looked like Japanese Famicom and their joysticks had four buttons on the right side instead of two. The top ones were turbo buttons. If you had original Nintendo you would have to buy the Turbo controller separately.

Fun fact, you can actually play as the other battletoad in single-player. By plugging the controller into the second port and waiting through the intro, you’re able to start the game. I have no idea if the clinger winger glitch is still active

The farthest I've ever gotten in all my years of playing is the exclamation points section in the turbo tunnel. I fall thru the platforms too, and to think this is early on there are like fifteen more levels after that? That's insane.
Watching someone zip through this game drives me nuts. As a kid I eventually felt like I was wrestling a juggernaut every time I popped it in. It is so much BIGGER in my memory. I can't believe there are only three screens in the snake level.
