@ryukahr: The reason for princess peach not showing up in 8-4, was because your using a pirated copy, the non-legit copy of the game, you would have to play it either on the Japanese disk system, or on the Nintendo switch NES app for the legit version to prevent the crash at 8-4 ending, this his why even if you would have beat all the level without skiping one, on the pirated copy you will not have world 9 because it crash on the ending. Unfortunatley you will never be able to unlocked world A through D on the pirated copy of the game since it need the title screen to have stars, and since they are no title screen when you beat 8-4 it was trying to put a star on the title screen and because they was no title screen it crash the ending.
7:08 in SMB1 and some others like SMB2, the collision doesn't actually check position, instead it just checks if you were moving down to decide whether you die or the enemy does. ryukahr, there are some mechanics here you don't seem to be aware of, so here they are. 1) I'm pretty sure the plants have no hitbox on the way back down into the pipe. 2) You cannot be hit while travelling downwards or hitting the top of a bounce-off-able enemy's hitbox; instead, you bounce off and hit them. 3) Beating the game without warps allows you access to the true ending. 4) Beating a level with the same number in both coin slots and the last digit in the timer gives you a 1-up. I hope this helps.

I'm glad this wasn't Super Mario Bros 2. It's Mario Bros 1, harder edition, rather than a new game. As outre as Mario Bros 2 was, it was a genuinely new and different experience.
18:26 Don't worry ryukahr, you'll always have star power with us :)
21:40 i love nintendo being trolly here :)
I had this Mario as a kid and I enjoy seeing those levels again brings so much memories.
Note: I think your version of the game is kinda screwed since you have unlimited continues, I remember when I had it I didn't have unlimited lives
From what I understand, the FDS version of SM2 had unlimited continues, I do not know about the pre virtual console ports (Virtual console just directly ports the FDS version.) Now, Ryu's might be a pirated copy, but that's based on the way it ended and seemingly crashed after.
For the past month or 2 i havent got any of your videos in my sub feed. I used to watch you all the time then all of a sudden you stopped popping up. I saw Ludwigs video of you guys playing poker and immediatly went to your channel. Sure enough im still subbed and all. Wtf youtube? Why tf arent you showing up in my sub feed?
it seems that the version Ryu was playing is some strange NES port that has had some things changed to fit a game which came from the Famicom Disk System onto the smaller NES Rom.
*Hence the broken ending and the "Wrong" piranhas!*
And this is a mario master playing. Imagine playing this as a kid when it came out.
That jump at 11:02 was magnificent
5:15 We don't make mistakes, we just have happy accidents~
Also rip him not realizing there's a timer at the warp to 6.
ryukahr, there are some mechanics here you don't seem to be aware of, so here they are.
I hope this helps.
this game was pretty tough but world 8 was on another level of difficulty. it took me so long to beat it. thank god for infinite continues
@ryukahr According to wikipedia: "A hidden World 9 is accessible if the player does not use a warp zone. Bonus worlds A through D are accessible when the player plays through the game eight times, for a total of 52 levels."
22:48 must be the ancestor of SMM2 night castles.
13:58 -- that look of "What have I done?"
followed up by 20:50 & 21:31 & 21:54
You can see the moment his soul breaks 13:55
gonna say it again: this was a modified rom.
Well he said he was playing a cartridge of it. Probably a Repro as the original was on the Famicom disk system.
@@Gatorade69 Him calling it the ORIGINAL while holding up an NES controller make it obvious it's a repro. In the ORIGINAL the title screen shows the title of the game and where's Worlds 9+?
you're right, I recongines the rom that he was using, the titlle screen missing is very recognizable
Edit: ALL the piranha plants on level 4-1 onwards should be red but as seen on 0:34 that doesnt happens.
I'm just being pedantic about his emphasis on "playing THE ORIGINAL"
Edit: I didn't even catch that, you're right. nesmaps(dot)com/maps/SuperMarioBrothers2j/SuperMarioBros2jMap5-1.html
Edit2: And at 2:00 he could have just timed out. I mean, at 14:18 he waits a 200+ timer out and it's not like he hasn't waited a 300+ for a Mario Maker stage. 🥱
Edit3: The fact that these videos give the notion of him playing the legit og SMB2 (repros of the legit JP rom are NOT rare...) is disappointing
I mean ruclips.net/video/-x2EQxXS4DQ/видео.html he straight up says and this is a direct word-for-word quote:
"So, I do not want to take any warps. I wanna take the main route. I don't wanna skip any levels. I wanna do absolutely everything."
but then skips World 5 not 2 minutes into the second video, then later Worlds 9, A, B, C & D. Also, who knows what else the rom hack creator edited (hidden blocks, enemy placement, physics, etc.)
You could've just waited for the timer to run out, it was already at the panic level, haha!
Gotta love the flower garden music at the end
So proud to have witnessed Mario's FIRST SOFTLOCK.!
