That's not it. If you don't get the one in world 1-1 it will be there in 4-1. It's not there because he got it in world 1-1. I play one game a day until I die and I've noticed that. Doesn't have anything to do with coins. Maybe if you get all the coins it comes back idk but I'll try that but if you play through without warps and don't get the 1-1 1up 4-1 will be there.
@@butter7734The previous comments were correct: the invisible 1-Up blocks are spawned in the first level of a world by either collecting all the coins in the third level of the previous world, or by warping directly to a world. Their spawning has no relation to which 1-Ups you have or haven't previously collected; the game doesn't track that.
As a kid in the 90s, I used to be a master at this game. 20+ years later, my friend and I randomly decided to play, and it was terrible! I died so many times. Younger me would've been so disappointed 😞🤣
I only played the NES at a family members house so my first personal system was the SNES. I enjoyed playing All-Stars versions of these games. I'm only just now realizing as I'm typing this that game was one of the earliest Remakes to a new system vs a port. Or at least the first I recall. Graphics and QoL updates. Also I guess some versions have SME on it but I don't believe mine did...
I just played through this (all levels) on my old NES about 4 months ago. It had been about 15 years since I had touched the game. I learned something new. That most of the (X+1)-1 levels have a conditional hidden 1-Up block in the level that is only available after having collected all of the coins in the previous X-3 level. CRAZY! So at 6:00, in 3-1 when you're looking for a 1-Up on the bridge, there is one, but you would have had to collect all of the coins in 2-3*.
We were the first family to get an NES in our apartment complex when I was a wee whelp. So many kids i had never seen before wanted to be besties all of a sudden lol
I was pretty young when I got my nes (4-5) and we lived in the country and though it was new to me it wasn't exactly new. But when xbox live launched on the original xbox and I was the only person with it so many people were at my house until all hours of the night/morning.
What type of brain damage do you have? I'm genuinely curious what would make somebody have such an incredibly ignorant and stupid thought process? Thinking this loser is good at any type of platforming game is a sure sign of mental disability. So again, what type of brain damage do you have? I genuinely want to know.
It took four worlds to reignite the old "get all the coins" instincts :) Also, it's unspoken by any media but the "he turned into a..." is because only the 8-4 Bowser is the real guy. The rest are minions transformed to look like him. Feels like something they could do in an open world setting.
When I was a kid, me and my friends played the level where you can get 1-ups by jumping on a turtle shell over and over coming down the stairs. Eventually you end up with your lives going from numbers, to letters, to symbols. We then took turns beating the game over and over again. The goombas change to beetles and all the enemies start to move faster. Eventually, after beating the game multiple times in a row the starting "goomba" moved so fast you couldn't jump it in time! Good times!
The enemies moved faster each time you beat the game in a row. This was on the original NES cartridge. Maybe they changed it in later releases. We had a turbo controller where you could auto fire jump. That still couldn't jump the beetle. I'm not sure how many times we beat it before we got to that point though. That was about 30 years ago!
It's so weird seeing Mario grab a fire flower when he's little, and instead of turning into Fire Mario, he just grows big like he does with the mushrooms.
16:25 Fantastic NES game that I had never played until I was in my 20s: The Guardian Legend. It's part Zelda part 1942 with a scifi theme, and it's absolutely amazing. A game I never beat when I was a kid was Alien 3 for the NES. The music is great, the graphics are good for NES, but the gameplay is a mixed bag leaning towards bad like most old licensed games. A game I DID beat as a kid that I don't think gets talked about enough and is also really good (though not as good as The Guardian Legend) is Faxandu. It's a side-scrolling fantasy action/RPG, and was quite difficult.
Hey Ryu! I got some games in mind that will make even you gameover! Try some megadrive games, Revenge of Shinobi and Contra Hard Corps will definitely break you. Can't wait to watch you playing them!
I love this sort of video, for what it's worth. I just like seeing good, entertaining gamers enjoying classic games. Speedruns get tiresome. Games are meant to be enjoyed first and foremost, not constantly broken in every which way.
Fun vid! Mario 1 is a funny game that you can't fully appreciate by skipping most of it. My retro suggestions are Cocoron (amazing NES Mega Man character maker) and Secret of Evermore (Western sci-fi Secret of Mana)
Not that long ago I played through all the old Mario Bros games on the Switch. It's like I was a kid again, it was magical. Yeah the jump physics is crazy.
I would love to see you play two of my favorite NES games, Boy and his Blob and Little Nemo: The Dream Master. I thought both these games were both fun and challenging when I was a kid.
Hey Ryu did you know as long as you're touching the bottom of the ocean, Bloopers can't touch you? You can just walk on the bottom of the ocean and they won't touch you.
Nes wizard's and warriors and the second better game Ironsword. Loved them as a kid, had to make it to college before I could beat Ironsword. Thanks for the vids dude. Really reminds me of why I still love gaming.
Bowser couldn't trust anyone to guard the princess so he turned his minions into himself to guard the Toads. The only real Bowser is in Castle 8. And I would love to see Mario 35 make a comeback.
Hey Ryu. Have you ever played Gain ground? It’s one of my favourite retro games ever. I think it would make some great content. I’d suggest to play it through on normal mode first then try hard. Its difficulty level is pretty high too so I think you will enjoy the challenge. Keep up the great content ✌🏻
4:06 Mario Bros 1 and 3 have a curious dynamic where I feel playing all the levels is pretty chill. However playing with warps is pretty tough. Completing the final world with 3 lives is pretty serious when you're out of practice. If you've stacked up one or two dozen lives through the game it should be enough for avid gamers.
As always I love the entertainment you provide! No continues is like a stick shift car for people now a days. Remember all you need to do is stream a FF6 Randomizer by the end of the year to get Zeel to be :Zeeled: and ship me his RyuToo
The only castle maze I really remember is 8-4. Even then it's not consciously memorized, it's just like trusting my gut. I bet a lot of people feel that way. We all warped our way to 8 as kids.
I play one game of Super Mario everyday. If I die once i quit. Having fun with that challenge. Also just did the second quest on Zelda and it was great and took me months to beat.
Once crazy little tidbit too is with the original, if you're big or fire mario and you jump and bump a firebar block your fist actually hits the bar still and hurts you, but doesn't if you are small mario, so just be careful out there~
there is a really good NES game that is not that easy called Faxanadu, I'm pretty sure you'll like it, it has good music and platforming along with RPG elements
this is my suggestion, Snes Equinox, amazing dungeon, puzzle platforming snes game, It's surprising to me that there's no a let's play of that game in the channel.
The hidden 1-ups in the -1 worlds are only there if you get all the coins in the previous -3 level. It's always there in 1-1.
Or you have warped to the current world 😄
@@christian_b8659 Right, so if you play the -3 world, you have to get all the coins. Maybe it's different in All-Stars?

@neilt82 OK so then why is the 1 up in 4-1 if you don't get the 1-1 1up? I'm not getting hardly any coins and it's there without warping.
“I’ll just get more coins”
Immediately jumps over the coin block
Seeing the game how I remember it here, rather than what it looks like in speedruns where it feels like a different game

Yes. Now it's time for lost levels luigi gameplay!
good idea
Luigi is in jail currently
@Krang_e_ShreddyI'm going to have to politely disagree with you on that one. Luigi's traction is ice physics

we need more debunking the difficulty, that series is what turned me on to your channel. play Little Nemo Dream Master on the NES

Excitebike was a good one.
"I need 1-ups!" *proceeds to skip every opportunity to harvest 1-ups off shells on stairs* (which he knows how to do well enough in SMM)
6:53 "Pacifism run!" *Immediately kills it by killing himself lol
Rayman 1 would be the perfect retro game for Ryu.
Its soundtrack is amazing

The Adventure Island franchise should be on your to-do list. I know you did one of them, but this series is a gem.
You should play Plok for the SNES. I feel like that would up your alley with the awesome music, quirkiness, and challenging platforming
Blaster Master! My dad bought that on the Wii Virtual Arcade and it’s my favorite NES game
Hey man is there any chance that we could see you play Warlock on Super Nintendo! It is one of my favorite Super Nintendo games amazingly
To see one of my favorite Mario-playing RUclipsrs floundering with the OG is....cathartic in a way...
Sunset riders for the snes is good one. Bonks adventure for the turbo graphx 16 is another great game

Would LOVE too see Faxanadu again. Still one of my favorite adventure games ever
Hells yeah, Faxanadu's a classic.
0:48 - Best Mario Game Nintendo “EVER MADE”!!!!!
I would like to see you playing Quackshot since you played another Ducktales game. Was my favorite back in the day.
6:27 “I have not found a vine yet.”
Well, that’s because you weren’t looking. You skipped over 85% of the blocks you passed.
He did say he doesn't remember much of this game.
Sunset Riders or True Lies would be a fun watch! Very tough games
Happy New Year Ryu❤

Ryu forgetting that you need to collect the X-3 coins to collect the X-1 one ups later.
Disappointed he didnt get big for the Princess.
I would love to see a BreakThru video. Some random NES game I had, a car that could shoot and jump. Was so much fun!

You lose momentum getting a power up in the air, but I think you can do a jump out of that pause if you time it right!
he did do a jump off the pause in the first castle that’s how he ended up in the lava lol
You could’ve gotten a bunch of 1 ups in world 3-1 at the end jumping on the turtle shell
River City Ransom was always pretty fun to play
One of the games I found really challenging and also really fun when I was a kid was Target Earth for the Sega Genesis.
So nice you don’t have to worry about sleezy and dirty kaizo blocks by every pit!
A game to play that I've been suggesting for years is Journey to Silius. A great, but somewhat difficult game. Fantastic music.
BUBSY! Loved that SNES game! Weird playformer that didn't become a series but it was hard!

To get the 1ups you need to collect all the coins on the -3 levels x

Please do a Mario 3 all levels run! It's my favorite game of the series and each level is brimming with creativity. Plus there are so many secrets!

Bowser couldn't trust anyone to guard the princess so he turned his minions into himself to guard the Toads. The only real Bowser is in Castle 8. And I would love to see Mario 35 make a comeback.
8:27 You have to meet certain conditions when you can "activate" the hidden 1-UP blocks.

15:34 He didn't turn into a Lakitu. He was Lakitu in disguise. According to the manual, Bowser from worlds 1 - 7 are enemies in Bowser costumes.
Very cool enjoying the Mario full plays.
Great hidden gems on the NES are Bucky O Hare and DarkWing Duck. Mega Man esque type of games.
Games I would love to see you play….Rocket Knight Adventures, Vectorman, and Super Adventure Island 2

The Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse was a forgotten one for me until recently. Played it through. Not terribly difficult and really fun!

Nice run, man. I like how you kept the interesting by dying a few times probably on purpose, but it works great for the video
I don't know if you've done it yet but crystalis is a good cult classic of mine. I go back to it from time to time.

you should finish golden eye!!
I love this game, I wanna own an NES and the original super Mario bros one day
Little Nemo: the Dream master would be a cool game for another video.
Also Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers
How come Ryu refers to levels as "maps"? 🤔. Just curious, as I've never heard that before!

I’d love to see you 100% SMW2 Yoshi’e Island. Such a fun, beautiful, challenging game! C’mon Ryu, please!

@maxraccoon3529 Looks like the jank's been around since day 1, it didn't start with Mario Maker 😅
Sonic 1 or 2 for the Genesis never got to beat that game. It'll be cool to see the ending
Now that Mario World and Mario Bros 1 have been done, should do a full playthrough of mario bros 2 and 3 too!
Mario 35 is one of my favorite games of all time
the end of mario 35 was truly a sad gaming moment
