    As a cosmetologist who specializes in natural hair. I would like to add that the presence of your curls indicate that your hair is not severely damaged. I wouldn’t even recommend cutting unless that’s truly something you’ve been wanting to do. All you’ve done is loosened the curl pattern. When the hair is straightened it looses hydration and leaves the hair in a more “weakened” state being that our hair is more stronger in its natural curl. So a consistent hydration routine with the use of protein should help your curls return to its normal state. If you’re experiencing thinning that could be related to a different issue. I’d recommend seeing a dr for labs. ❤

    • @lauriemyles2010
      @lauriemyles2010 2 месяца назад +18

      Very well explained! The same happened to me after putting in a full see-in weaving thinking that I was "protecting" my hair. When I took it out, I had a ton of shedding & my curl pattern completely changed. I just gave my hair a total break from weaves, wigs, and braids. I made some oils (rosemary, clove, & lavender), deep conditioner (rosemary & marshmallow root), & a leave in detangler (slippery elm bark, marshmallow root, aloe, & the oil I made) as a party of my weekly routine for my hair. In about a few weeks, my pattern came back.

      @@lauriemyles2010 yes ma’am!! I’m a straight natural so when I want a break to build my pattern back up I literally do something similar. People have to understand that hair is dead when it pushes through the root. It can be manipulated in various ways

    Bruh this is why I don't use heat in my hair....A hair stylist once damaged my hair beyond recognition and ever since then I'v never used heat🤧......and what's funny, the hairstylist used to mock me like "damn girl u used to have long thick hair" like miss u did this to me....I had to cut my hair and because I was depressed about the length I stopped taking care of it as I should, I was 13 at the time... I'm now 19 and my hair is fuller and longer and ever since I started taking care of it by myself my real curl pattern is visible.....

    Just a heads up that if your Vitamin D and Ferritin are either low or deficient you are likely to experience excessive shedding, thinning and/or breakage. A dictir tried to lie and say my levels were fine when they were low. My ferritin was in the low 20s when idealy it should be in the 40s-50s. I was persistent and had him prescribe a megadose of D for 12 weeks that I paired with K2 as liquid iron ( Gaia Plantforce Iron or Floradix)from the healthfood store. Also, if any of your heat tools are titanium, they will make you more likely to get heat damage because the plates don't heat evenly.

    Hair might be thinning due to over manipulation? just a thought. Definitly stopping the use of combs/brushes would help. Also, I'm sure you probably know this but a lot of these companies put chemicals in their products to make us lose our hair. Maybe try a natural ingredient routine. (Aloe, flaxseed gel, black soap, rosemary water, clove, fenugreek, moringa etc.) and see what comes of that. I noticed a similar change in my hair/ amount of hair follicles in each section of my hair. Maybe your hair has changed density? Which can happen for various reasons hormones/aging. Totally normal though.

      Also other hair types can “do to much” and it still grows like weed. In order for type 4 hair to grow, it has to be in a protective style 24/7 or loc’d. If WE want variety we have to wear fake hair or risk the chance of breakage. PERIOD!!!

    I did notice how you use your heat flat iron a LOT.......maybe a relaxer would work for you since you love straight hair because you can properly care for its health. No need to be natural if you heat straighten it always.

      @meowmep1366 oh OK thanks so much, I didn't know. I suggested it because the years I wore a relaxer my hair was healthy and long.....I used to LOVE the wrap hairstyle but you use your head as a giant roller and sit under a hooded dryer. She's natural but she does not like her curls...she stays reaching for them hot flat irons.....you can see the smoke when she's frying her hair so that's why I said maybe she should go back to the creamy crack 🤷🏿‍♀️
