honestly, the 2007 films take on it and the spin on the story is so damn interesting, i wish there was more, sadly i think the beauty and greatness of the film too is how it closes up so there is no need for more, the tale of beowulf is told but DAMNNNN like lore-wise it's so fkin good i would honestly say this is one of my favorite stories told, legit - haven't watched this movie since release era when i was younger and watched it this morning on a whim, was so so impressed
@@cj-vp9rf It was the best depiction of beowulf we ever got. It may have strayed a bit from the poem but it was still amazing. I still watch it now and again ❤
"it may have strayed a bit from the poem, but it was still amazing" you put it perfectly, without disrespecting the source material. Fully agree. This film is NOT appreciated enough, especially for the time it came out. It did something only a select few movies tried at the time@@tenyearsinthejoint1
I do like how in this film they even went a step further by having the characters speaking with Danish accents as most film set in Europe tend to just use British accents for the characters regardless of which European country it's actually said in so I've got to say fairplay to trying to be accurate by having them all speak with Danish accents
Robert Zemecus is an outstanding director with loads of original films under his belt. The way he films and overall sense in directing is god level. He's worth a google!!!
One of my favorite movies. Just rewatched it for the first time in years. Crispin's acting in this film is really something rare. One of my favorite vocal performances
The difference was using a motion tracked camera. 90% of CGI is lighting, camera movements and real life references. Thor CGI for example was a mess because the sets from where they would then make the CGI were all wrong.
@@fockingreat1125 these behind the scenes look they really did well in making the movie, kudos for the actors and the staff member team who made the movie.
Odd use of the word "enlighten" there. It's supposed to mean "to give knowledge." I don't know how you could use any movie to give a childhood knowledge. I don't know how you could give a childhood knowledge at all! Can childhoods even HAVE knowledge, in the first place?
He didn’t have the physique for sure. But Ray f***ing Winstone…he has presence. He had the voice. Even if Hemsworth took on the role, in my book, he’d have massive shoes to fill. I LOVED Winstone as Beowulf.
@ 0:26 Zemeckis says "this has nothing to do with the Beowulf you were forced to read in highschool." He's right, it's a retooled version of the 1999 film, from which Zemeckis, Gaiman and Avery lifted half of this film... really though? It is the Beowulf you were forced to read in highschool, which is exactly why they were able to lift so much from the 1999 version.
I wish there was more footage behind the scenes.. this was great to watch and its one of my favorite movies of all time , ive probably watched it like 1000 times since it came out and never get bored!
The Polar Express is not dated. It looks way better than you think. Mars Needs Mom looked bad because of the different director. I don’t know why you chose The Polar Express as dated.
How come Steven Spielberg has never made much movies with mocap animation, except for The Adventures of Tintin? Spielberg should start doing the same animated mocap movies as Robert Zemeckis and open a new company called “Amblin Digital”.
The grendel is very, very ,VERY CREEPY. This monster scare me ever i watch the film. Great monster. No, bet if it was live action they would have picked Hemsworth. When shooting a CG, mocap film like this, they choose actors based on their voices, and facial expressions, how they look doesn't matter... obviously.
Robert introducing Ray: "this is ray"
Ray introducing himself: "I'm 6 1/2 feet"
I never picked up on that lmfaoo ray what 😭
Rays 5’9 lol
Amazing how great Crispin Glover is in this, it's hard to believe Grendel was played by the same person as George McFly.
What s amazing is...crispin and Robert zemeckis did not get along on back to the future and for some weird reason..they back on this movie. Surreal.
