One of the greatest cinematic events of all time. I know when this came out the buzz on the street (hearing now that Oliver Stone planned a whole bunch of them) was three movies, Conan the Barbarian, Destroyer and Conqueror with Arnold as the lead. The dramatic shift in direction with Destroyer derailed the whole damn thing, and it's truly sad because these films could've been bigger than the MCU and Star Wars combined had they been realized. I mean this was Game of Thrones before it was a thing! The cast was perfect, the script was amazing and they made this movie totally believable. This movie can never be remade with the same success, and now it's too late to fix Destroyer, but they could always make Conqueror.
Fully agreed with everything you said here, a Conqueror or King Conan can still be done, what's mind blowing is the positive word of mouth and tribute to this film and hollywood's still pussyfooting around green lighting one last Arnold/ Conan well made pic
The amount of "non" actors in that movie is insane, yet they were all perfect for their roles. I also love how most time, there is nothing said, just action and that incredible music. You don't always need words to advance the story. The village attack at the beginning is the best intro in Cinema's history in my opinion. It's pure perfection and I don't think they even say 1 word!

This is amazing, and I somehow just stumbled across this Doc. CTB had such a gritty, visceral feel, something totally lost on present day film. Score, costumes, characters, imagery…all top-notch. There is no substitution for genuine authenticity, and the conviction these people undertook is why the film is one of a kind. I will forever be a fan.
This is my favorite movie in the early 80s very realistic fight scenes and Clash of the Titans and Repo Man and Bladerunner is my favorite too...I love the magician Mako narration of Conan the Barbarian.

This movie is extremely well done and respectful to the source material while being an original story. Still my favorite movie of all time. An action and cinematic masterpiece. I saw it in my early teens and I still enjoy it in my early 50’s. This movie sparked my interest in fantasy adventure books and other media.
There is a deep philosophy to R.E Howard's writing. Courage Resilience Heroism The idea that the human being is by far more capable than expected.. The whole diatribe of Thulsa Doom " steel is not strong... flesh is stronger " exemplifies it
Awesome movie, great cast, brilliant practical fx, great stunts. Arnold's performance is amazing for someone with limited acting experience. He truly is Conan! 👍👏💪
"He's looking for the person that is the person. Your face is right. Your stature is right. Your athletic ability is right." One of the details of great movies. Nowadays we get called racist for pointing that out in movies where already established characters are changed or look odd.
Lots of movies I've watched and loved over the years, but only 3 I would call my favorites. 1) Night of the living Dead, the original 2) Excalibur 1981 and 3) Conan the Barbarian.
This movie was a generational masterpiece for us baby boomers, the characters were perfectly cast by the actors, the story line was hypnotic and the action was as close to the comic as possible without sending people to the morgue! A lifetime memory of action fantasy in my humble viewing opinion!👍🔍👀
I saw this film alone on my 24th birthday. I had just moved to a new city and didn't know anybody yet. I remember being completely transported by the soundtrack. When the film was over I went out, bought another ticket and sat through the film a second time just to listen to that symphony again.
I am so proud, my son loved it, and we watched it together just a few years ago. He loved all these movies I loved as a kid. Terminator 2, Rambo First Blood, Conan...
"...every single weapon, everything has to be something that has the practicality and it would work." The best proof of this is Conan's Sword when it was the subject of the show "Forged in Fire" as out of hundreds of swords they've made this design performed the best out of all of them, even beating every historical sword in existence.
A great movie in it’s genre. One of, if not the best. As was highlighted in this too short documentary, it had all the elements to make it so. Arnold as the titular character, a director that understood the mission, characters and story. The other, no less important actors, players, and musicians. Better than it’s given credit for by the general movie going audience. I’m glad it’s got its supportive fan base even all these years later.
I thought the same a series of movies like Bond. It would have been a huge franchise. Studio missed a once in a lifetime chance but Arnold still lives. Please Crom one last Conan with Arnold.

“Now they will know why they are afraid of the dark” wow. JEJ, a national treasure.
The riddle of steel yes you know it don't you boy? Shall I tell you? It's the least I can do. STEEL ISN'T STRONG BOY! FLESH! IS STRONGER! LOOK around you look that beautiful girl. Come to me my child come ( SMASH) ! THAT IS STRENGTH BOY ! THAT IS POWER! What is steel compared to the hand that wields it?! Look at the strength of your body, the desire in your heart? I GAVE YOU THIS! Such a waste! Contemplate this on the Tree of Woe Crucify him
The cut scene when the bodyguards kill King Ostric really adds to the mythos and how powerful and overreaching the Tulsa Doom cult is
Still my favorite movie of all time. An action and cinematic masterpiece. I saw it in my early teens and I still enjoy it in my early 50’s. This movie sparked my interest in fantasy adventure books and other media.
There is a deep philosophy to R.E Howard's writing.
Courage
Resilience
Heroism
The idea that the human being is by far more capable than expected..
The whole diatribe of Thulsa Doom " steel is not strong... flesh is stronger " exemplifies it
Agree with devilrobrob...imagine what could have been, a Conan movie every two years. And yes, a King Conan movie 🎬 😂😂❤❤
Best movie score ever for a very, very long time to come.
I practice kendo and Arnie's cuts in this movie always impresses me. He manages to put the energy of his cut through the right part of the sword.
Awesome movie, great cast, brilliant practical fx, great stunts. Arnold's performance is amazing for someone with limited acting experience. He truly is Conan! 👍👏💪
Mako was superb .... I love his voice but also his laughter
"He's looking for the person that is the person. Your face is right. Your stature is right. Your athletic ability is right."
One of the details of great movies. Nowadays we get called racist for pointing that out in movies where already established characters are changed or look odd.
Thanks for sharing this
I just watched Barbarian a millionth time - just discovered this …
Lots of movies I've watched and loved over the years, but only 3 I would call my favorites. 1) Night of the living Dead, the original 2) Excalibur 1981 and 3) Conan the Barbarian.
Best movie ever made. Tons of epic moments, a true masterpiece done with great passion and with amazing technique.
Still the best Conan movie/tv show ever.
you don`t see so much acting in a whole year in movies now days.i am so happy i`ve seen these films and the guys acting in them
To this day, I will occasionally look at a coworker and ask them, "what is best in life?"
It is very rare indeed that I get the correct answer.
For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts. This... This you can trust.
I'm reading Arnold's autobiography at the moment. Just go to the chapter on Conan. It's a good book! Check it out.
what is the books name? i might buy that book too.
@@sannakarppinen4163 It's called Total Recall
@@crusherrSK thank you for the information 💐💐
Same ! The book has so many interesting stories about this movie. I had no idea.
I am so grateful to have seen almost all these great 80's movies when they came out. Truly epic then and even greater now!
One of the best movies ever!.
This movie was such a big part of my childhood, one of the reasons why I wanted to pursue acting and film was because of this film
One of the greatest undervalued films of all time. Good story, perfect photography, incredible music... Great silences.
For me this is the best movie ever made.
The most EPIC movie of all time
one of my top movies!!!.........never will forget that music!!!
"...every single weapon, everything has to be something that has the practicality and it would work."
The best proof of this is Conan's Sword when it was the subject of the show "Forged in Fire" as out of hundreds of swords they've made this design performed the best out of all of them,
even beating every historical sword in existence.
Conan the Barbarian had a great story, amazing characters and music out of this world !!! I miss such a heart touching movies, like they use to make.
"...and they put in a Vulture that had just died, mysteriously" lol
I thought the same a series of movies like Bond. It would have been a huge franchise. Studio missed a once in a lifetime chance but Arnold still lives. Please Crom one last Conan with Arnold.
