You forgot one major trait of the character. Conan never stopped learning. While he preferred a big sword or axe, he learned the local fighting style and weapons wherever he went.

Indeed. Conan wasn't just a muscle bound, offish brute.
He was highly intelligent and adaptive.
And was able to plan out complicated tactics that were speeded along by a stout sword arm and the right allies.
      Also.
He had a superstitious streak also.

The original Conan the Barbarian was one of the very first films I ever saw with my dad.
It sparked an interest in all things ancient and medieval that persists to this day.
Some kids had Star Wars in the late 70's and 80's?
I had Conan the Barbarian and every other sword and sandal sci-fi, or history based sword opera that came after.

Always remember the movies,, but damn went back and read the 1930s pulp novellas, despite a lot of racism lol, those were some insane stuff. Despite Conan being human he overcame a lot and went against some truly insane creatures. I like that the movie did a better job with Thulsa Doom as the books/comic made him like a skeleton necromancer while the movie made him more a Deranged Cult Leader who had mystic powers..which kinda grounded him. Arnie was born for it.

    • @Harold075

Thulsa Doom is more of King Kull's and Red Sonja's enemy than Conan's. Thot-Amon's movie version is more Tuzun Thune than his archenemy Thot-Amon.

The Hyborian Age was only about 32,500 to 10,000 B.C.E. which is when Conan was alive. But also, from a literary stand point the stories of King Kull were written prior to those of Conan. The Kull stories being published in Wield Tales (those that were published that is, in 1929 and 1930) and the Conan stories being published in 1932 to 1936.

I started with the comics and moved onto the books so I was hyped for the movie when it came out. Love the movie although the way they ran rough shod over the source material was sacrilegious. However it was still the standard by which all others of the genre were measured. The second was a joke, a pathetic cash grab and very disappointing considering Roy Thomas's hand was in it (I still dread to think what Oliver Stone would have done to Conan given free reign). I really wanted to like Mamoa's Conan he had the Windsor-Smith/Frazetta look down so well as opposed to Arnie's blonde Boris impression, but very let down by the story. The Cartoons never interested me as they were just moving comics of mediocre quality. I barely knew of the tv show but just looking at the shorts here, another Conan the Blondarian plus the sands too clean and those weekly show npc's never look lived in any genre. I wouldn't be too disappointed not seeing that Schwarzenegger ego trip being made as it would probably be the most un-Howard like story ever told.

I think the 2010 Conan wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t for 2 things, lack of a decent score and far too much cgi. Yeah yeah I know the barbarian ost is a hard act to follow.

While the two cartoons were meant for children, the second one can be seen as an opportunity by Conan to create some allies. These allies will one day help Conan in the future esp. after he gins his own kingdom. An ideal plot for the Elderly and King Conan is for him to seek revenge against an old enemy who had killed his heir to the throne. The death of his heir cause Conan to remember what happen in his past esp. the death of his parents and the village where they lived. A fortune teller gives Conan a Prophecy of his second heir is the child of a former lover who refused to married him. Therefore the Elderly King Conan goes on a journey to protect his second. The fortune teller did warn Conan that he may not survived his journey if he uses his army and body guards. The fortune teller tells Conan that he only can used two of his guards
After selecting one of his most trusted Generals to protect and rule the Kingdom while he is on his journey, Conan goes on his journey to find his second heir. Since Conan suspects that this journey is likely going to lead to his death, he must be careful. Conan travels to the kingdom where his ex-lover is Queen. The Queen remembers Conan. She tells Conan that his oldest son is his heir. Oddly the Queen was given a prophecy that one of her children will one day united two Kingdoms. Yet another child will died as a result of the same old enemy seeking revenge on the Old Conan. Conan promise the Queen to bring back their son alive. even if their son has to bring his father's sword.
Now on the journey to save the Queens' oldest daughter, Conan must face the villain. Yet during the journey, Conan realizes that the Queen's oldest daughter to be the twin of his son. Evidently Conan realizes that his daughter is the heir who unite two Kingdoms. His second son is going to be one child who is going to died. Aware of the possible death of his second son, Conan will make an attempt to save his son. Oddly the Queen's second son is a member of the the group. As foretold by prophecy, Conan is unable to prevent the death of his second as well as the Queen's oldest son. Despite of trying to protect his second son and the Queen's oldest son, Conan is able to defeat the old enemy. Ironic both Conan's second and the Queen's oldest son had sacrificed their lives to protect and the Princess. Now Conan must bring the swords of his son and his half brother. Oddly since the Queen didn't told Conan about how two brothers will sacrifice themselves to protect their sister.
Conan's daughter is the one who is going to bring two powerful Kingdoms together. Oddly Conan's stepson was destined to marry his daughter. Now feeling the pains of age, Conan starts to give more powers to his trusted general. Unknown to Conan, his trusted general turns out to be his oldest son. Yet the General was willing to sacrifice his right to Conan's throne so a long era of peace can begin. Oddly the General is one the two heirs who will bring two powerful kingdoms together.
