@@dehjkliproductionse4222 very true. Id personally like to see someone tackle this story by displaying the story we hear compared to the truth it’s describing. For example the portion about slaying the cedar forest demon, is actually about a military conquest. Enkidu is enki of Eridu, a real man, and the great cedar forest is ancient Lebanon/western turkey, and most of what we call Israel today. Those people who dwelt there prayed to a super old very large Cedar tree in the forest center. This is why when they slay the demon they take his “corpse” back and make a tavern archway out of it. It’s not a monster it’s a monstrous tree that people tried their best to hide from foreigners so they wouldn’t attempt to cut it down. That’s what the cloaks are about, they are not magical they are diversions set up by people. People who gilgamesh most certainly had killed. The epic itself tells this story through symbolism. The same can be said about the bill of heaven, which is often depicted as a man wearing golden armor fashioned to look like a bull. It was the flashy armor that did the individual in because of the addition of a leather tail. It would be very cool to see someone tell the story for what it is even overlayed with the truth of the matter. Gilgamesh also isn’t a name it’s a title that means “valley of the sun”. King gilgamesh literally means “king of the valley of the sun”. The whole story is showing how the pursuit of glory will only result in being alone, and unhappy. This fact is what causes him so much desperation at the end of the epic. It would absolutely need to be done right but someone I feel could do it with enough support and talent

Because of this do not be sad at heart, do not be grieved or oppressed; he has given you power to bind and to loose, to be the darkness and the light of mankind.”

When you stare at the statue for hours you start to pick up little details like the cute little lioness firmly clenching Gilgamesh's tower of power with her hind claw.. He also seems to be wearing a Swatch, which has got to be one of the earliest known examples of product placement. But on a more serious note, I really love this epic and the reading is perfect. It's kind of funny that such an early narrative makes the supreme macho man syndrome responsible for so much conflict, although I'm sure the Sumerians were no feminists either, because Ishtar is about as she-devilish as you can get. .

The bracelet he has isn’t a watch the symbol on it is an esoteric symbol meaning integrity that goes far back to the cave paintings even. It’s been theorized that cave paintings were a written language the whole world once knew based on the fact that we’re ever you go on earth they repeat the same symbols but something happened and separated the cultures from each other. And ever culture has a flood story so it was probably that and Gilgamesh did clams to know the language before the flood so yeah.
@@mannybear4691 most cave paintings are similar but not the same. they normally represent the animals that they hunted and basic things such as their handprint, or stick figures, which many young children do when they are young even today.
@@RelivingHistory1 there’s more than just pictures cave paintings tend to have words not just stick figures. 20000 years ago there was an ice age and the resulting water level rise caused between 5 and 8% of the earth’s total land mass to be submerged. That taken in to account most civilizations build around costal areas and spread from there every culture in the world has the same myth or story of a global flood that wiped out a more advanced civilization before them with a few survivors afterwards. My guess is the cave paintings are what’s the survivors made and even today if civilization collapsed and a small number of people survived most being people with little to no education in writing or art because there’s not that many great artists or writers today as is. I’m sure the clues they live behind in writing would look like something a child could make 8000 years later. There speculation in the archeology community about how it’s very likely people at one point shared a very common language and writing system based off the cave symbols such as the spiral and zig zag and others because of the manner there used in to try and tell a story with the support of pictures like people or stick men and animals . Also it’s been noted that if the cave paintings are viewed using a torch instead of a flash light it makes them look like they move. And that explains why you see some animals with two heads or six legs. Also the costal area all I’ve the world have proof of advanced stone work such as Atlit Yam that’s probably 9000 years old and Yonaguni monument in Japan some 5000 years old. There was also an underwater city discovered near Cuba in 2001 estates say 5000 years old also Lake Michigan has a stone hinge that’s 9000 years old that’s a big mystery considering most native Americans in North America never developed the ability to make stone structures or even simple metal works and Bimini Road. So most of these structures predate the Sumer Valley by at least 3000 years and they were the “first civilization”
@@mannybear4691 but then how do you explain the fact that almost all of the cave paintings are from 45,000/15,000BC? and again spirals and zig zags are very common drawings in all children, humans have always loved patterns and symmetry, so i would definitely find it hard to believe they represented some magic universal language....I am sure there were civilisations that predated the sumerians, but they are the ones that we have the most information about, because they left us tables filled with their writings, unlike these older civilisations.

There are so many things in here that are clear examples of what Christ came to fix. Such as characterizing Gilgamesh as a ruler who lords it over his subjects when he should be as a shepherd, and when they were going to see Humbaba, it says the way was broad and the going was easy, yet Jesus says the way to life is narrow, and it is difficult. Gilgamesh is the example of how the rulers of this world behave who have no hope of eternal life, which this text even says that Gilgamesh is not given eternal life.
Fascinating, thank you. It seems as though a harem was simply not enough, but Gilgamesh seemed to be a practitioner of Prima Nocta before it became hip.
5:54 Now the trapper returned, taking the harlot with him. After a three days' journey they came to the drinking hole, and there they sat down; the harlot and the trapper sat . facing one another and waited for the game to come. For the first day and for the second day the two sat waiting, but on the third day the herds came; they came down to drink and Enkidu was with them. The small wild creatures of the plains were glad of the water, and Enkidu with them, who ate grass with the gazelle and was born in the hills; and she saw him, the savage man, come from far-off in the hills. The trapper spoke to her: ‘There he is. Now, woman, make your breasts bare, have no shame, do not delay but welcome his love. Let him see you naked, let him possess your body. When he comes near uncover yourself and lie with him; teach him, the savage man, your woman's art, for when he murmurs love to you the wild’ beasts that shared his life in the hills will reject him.' She was not ashamed to take him, she made herself naked and welcomed his eagerness; as he lay on her murmuring love she taught him the woman's art For six days and seven nights they lay together, for Enkidu had forgotten his home in the hills; but when he was satisfied he went back to the wild beasts. Then, when the gazelle saw him, they bolted away; whenthewildcreaturessawhimtheyfled.Enkiduwouldhavefollowed, buthisbodywasboundas thoughwithacord, his knees gave way when he started to run, his swiftness was gone. And now the wild creatures had all fled away; Enkiduwasgrownweak, forwisdomwasinhim, andthethoughtsofamanwereinhisheart.Sohereturnedandsat down at the woman's feet, and listened intently to what she said. ‘You are wise, Enkidu, and now you have become like a god. Why do you want to run wild with the beasts in the hills? Come with me. I will take you to strong-walled Uruk, to the blessed temple of Ishtar and of Anu, of love and of heaven there Gilgamesh lives, who is very strong, and like a wild bull he lords it over men.' When she had spoken Enkidu was pleased; he longed for a comrade, for one who would understand his heart. ‘Come, woman, and take me to that holy temple, to the house of Anu and of Ishtar, and to the place where Gilgamesh lords it over the people. I will challenge him boldly, I will cry out aloud in Uruk, "I am the strongest here, I have come to change the old order, I am he who was born in the hills, I am he who is strongest of all."' She said, ‘Let us go, and let him see your face. I know very well where Gilgamesh is in great Uruk. O Enkidu, there all the people are dressed in their gorgeous robes, every day is holiday, the young men and the girls are wonderful to see. How sweet they smell! All the great ones are roused from their beds. O Enkidu, you who love life, I will show you Gilgamesh, a man of many moods; you shall look at him well in his radiant manhood. His body is perfect in strength and maturity; he never rests by night or day. He is stronger than you, so leave your boasting. Shamash the glorious sun has given favours to Gilgamesh, and Anu of the heavens, and Enlil, and Ea the wise has given him deep understanding. f tell you, even before you have left the wilderness, Gilgamesh will know in his dreams that you are coming.' Now Gilgamesh got up to tell his dream to his mother; Ninsun, one of the wise gods. ‘Mother, last night I had a dream. I was full of joy, the young heroes were round me and I walked through the night under the stars of the firmament, and one, a meteor of the stuff of Anu, fell down from heaven. I tried to lift it but it proved too heavy. All the people of Uruk came round to see it, the common people jostled and the nobles thronged to kiss its feet; and to me its attraction was like the love of woman. They helped me, I braced my forehead and I raised it with thongs and brought it to you, and you yourself pronounced it my brother.' Then Ninsun, who is well-beloved and wise, said to Gilgamesh, ‘This star of heaven which descended like a meteor from the sky; which you tried to lift,- but found too heavy, when you tried to move it it would not budge, and so you brought it to my feet; I made it for you, a goad and spur, and you were drawn as though to a woman. This is the strong comrade, the one who brings help to his friend in his need. He is the strongest of wild creatures, the stuff of Anu; born in the grass-lands and the wild hills reared him; when you see him you will be glad; you will love him as a woman and he will never forsake you. This is the meaning of the dream.' Gilgamesh said, ‘Mother, I dreamed a second dream. In the streets of strong-walled Uruk there lay an axe; the shape of it was strange and the people thronged round. I saw it and was glad. I bent down, deeply drawn towards it; I loved it like a woman and wore it at my side.' Ninsun answered, ‘That axe, which you saw, which drew you so powerfully like love of a woman, that is the comrade whom I give you, and he will come in his strength like one of the host of heaven. He is the brave companion who rescues his friend in necessity.' Gilgamesh said to his mother, 'A friend, a counsellor has come to me from Enlil, and now I shall befriend and counsel him.' So Gilgamesh told his dreams; and the harlot retold them to Enkidu. And now she said to Enkidu, ‘When I look at you you have become like a god. Why do you yearn to run wild again with the beasts in the hills? Get up from the ground, the bed of a shepherd.' He listened to her words with care. It was good advice that she gave.

This might not be the most complete translation, from what I understand new archeological discoveries add new fragments to the story every other decade or so.
I spent over two years in Iraq and not being able to explore the land like an archeologist is such a tragedy to the world. The Iraq war was such a terrible thing.
So, according to this translation, Gilgamesh's sword which he used to fight Humbaba weighed 120 pounds. The axes weighed 180 pounds each. Out of curiosity, I tried to calculate how big the sword would be, and came up with a length of up to 60 feet, if it was the thickness of a regular bronze sword (which would make it too brittle to hold up). It could also be more like 6 and a half feet long, if we assume it was much thicker.
I am enjoying this recitation very much but I wonder why there is no mention of the author, Nancy Katherine Sandars, whose translation appears to be its basis. Although I bought her book, The Epic of Gilgamesh, back sometime in the 70's, I never got too far into it. It is such a pleasure to have this engaging reading to listen to! Many thanks!

If someone did it right it really could
@@IPAsAndSunshine I don't think anyone would be brave enough to attempt something like that, too great a story
Hollywood would probably ruin it

The ancients not having a single connection with a West Germanic language notwithstanding, Sumerian was an ergative language hinged around an adjunction of syllables. So, if you want to find clever alternate meanings to the name, you better be looking at the alternate senses of "ga" or "me" on a old babylonian dictionary.

It's kind of funny that such an early narrative makes the supreme macho man syndrome responsible for so much conflict, although I'm sure the Sumerians were no feminists either, because Ishtar is about as she-devilish as you can get. .
i couldnt stop laughing when enkidu was about to curse that prostitute to be a street hooker with no brothel to work out of just to have his mind changed and then blessed her with dick jewels and a husband. Like wtf yo😭😭😭

Gilgamesh is the example of how the rulers of this world behave who have no hope of eternal life, which this text even says that Gilgamesh is not given eternal life.
in most versions the way to Humbaba (Huvava) is extremely periles and complex rites need to be performed in order to proceed

Now the trapper returned, taking the harlot with him. When he comes near uncover yourself and lie with him; teach him, the savage man, your woman's art, for when he murmurs love to you the wild’ beasts that shared his life in the hills will reject him.'
She was not ashamed to take him, she made herself naked and welcomed his eagerness; as he lay on her murmuring love she taught him the woman's art For six days and seven nights they lay together, for Enkidu had forgotten his home in the hills; but when he was satisfied he went back to the wild beasts. I will take you to strong-walled Uruk, to the blessed temple of Ishtar and of Anu, of love and of heaven there Gilgamesh lives, who is very strong, and like a wild bull he lords it over men.'
When she had spoken Enkidu was pleased; he longed for a comrade, for one who would understand his heart. ‘Come, woman, and take me to that holy temple, to the house of Anu and of Ishtar, and to the place where Gilgamesh lords it over the people. I will challenge him boldly, I will cry out aloud in Uruk, "I am the strongest here, I have come to change the old order, I am he who was born in the hills, I am he who is strongest of all."'
She said, ‘Let us go, and let him see your face. Shamash the glorious sun has given favours to Gilgamesh, and Anu of the heavens, and Enlil, and Ea the wise has given him deep understanding. f tell you, even before you have left the wilderness, Gilgamesh will know in his dreams that you are coming.'
Now Gilgamesh got up to tell his dream to his mother; Ninsun, one of the wise gods. They helped me, I braced my forehead and I raised it with thongs and brought it to you, and you yourself pronounced it my brother.'
Then Ninsun, who is well-beloved and wise, said to Gilgamesh, ‘This star of heaven which descended like a meteor from the sky; which you tried to lift,- but found too heavy, when you tried to move it it would not budge, and so you brought it to my feet; I made it for you, a goad and spur, and you were drawn as though to a woman. This is the strong comrade, the one who brings help to his friend in his need. He is the strongest of wild creatures, the stuff of Anu; born in the grass-lands and the wild hills reared him; when you see him you will be glad; you will love him as a woman and he will never forsake you. This is the meaning of the dream.'
Gilgamesh said, ‘Mother, I dreamed a second dream.

Kahuna b alas, Horus is a very important deity, with many legends and tales concerning him including but not limited to:1: the birth of Horus. 2: How horus became Ra's guardian (fighting crocodiles on the nile)3: the wars of Horus and Seth (which I fear is what you meant, because it contains rape and spermplay) 4: the myths of the resurrection of Osiris and probably several others I have not read yet. Wait- is this Carl Benjamin/Sargon reading?
Awesome! Big fan
I think you should should change the material it was made out of.
your ratio is wrong.
I so a 2 1/2 inch diameter bronze bar 105 inches long weights 175 pounds
I am enjoying this recitation very much but I wonder why there is no mention of the author, Nancy Katherine Sandars, whose translation appears to be its basis. Although I bought her book, The Epic of Gilgamesh, back sometime in the 70's, I never got too far into it. It is such a pleasure to have this engaging reading to listen to! Many thanks!
I enjoyed this very much and have been interested in this story for a long time. Thank You for your content :)
Could you do the Iliad or something about the Trojans and old greeks in general? Id love to here it!!@

the repeating in gilgamesh came handy to us,, because parts of the epic were damaged ,, and without this repeat many parts of the story would have been lost ,, so luckily for us the author repeated many parts
I read this comment right when Sargon was reading it- wow
I'm subscribing because I'm 99.9999% sure this is Karl/Sargon. Lol Iconic voice my brother.
Yahushua is Yahuah
@@UncoveringTruth732 pardon?
As a species, had we evolved with paws, or hooves, rather than fingers and toes, how much importance do you believe we would put on the subject of an afterlife?
Thank you for taking the time in reading this story for all to enjoy.
It's crazy how his story was lost for thousands of years and then found I think right before the 1900s
Is this true?
Hey, I know this voice... is Sargon of Akkad reading?!
Yep. This is a secondary, apolitical channel of his.
Surprised me too 😂
Fake
There's nothing about Gilgamesh conjuring weapons from golden circles in the air and throwing them at his enemies WITH HIS MIND
And where's his rotating cylinder sword that can break the world apart? WHAT FORGERY
poiumty At the time of the Epic, he simply didn't have enough swords...
poiumty Technically he only fights like that because he is limited by the archer class. As a saber or berserk or rider he would be very different
TheLofychewim don't think he can be any of those, except Berserker. His main Noble Phantasm is Gate of Babylon, which is only fitting to the Archer class.
poiumty Is that supposed to be a smite reference? I'm fucking confused.
Usammity The King of Heroes needs not explain himself to you, mongrel.
The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest surviving written story. Earlier stories are thought to have been destroyed thousands of years ago by the BBC, who, during those centuries long ago, employed a common industry practice of junking scrolls they didn’t think anyone would ever want to translate and read in the future.
The Narrator doesn't quite fire the imagination that such an incredible tale deserves, I'd imagine that professional actors apprising the character voice overs coupled with appropriate sound effects would send this unbelievable story into the stratosphere, 'The Epic of Gilgamesh' wow, makes one wonder? truth or fiction, can't wait for the movie.
Thanks so much for this Sargon.
That’s Sargon? I thought it was
I've had this in my watch list for a while... I would have done so sooner if I had known it was Sargon.
He was made from one of the earth goddesses and he was a demon. About 25 feet tall judging from that lion in his arms.. what's a demon ,this is anything fallen angels procreate human or animal.
No. He would’ve been the equivalent of a biblical nephilim, not a demon.
@UJB123 I believe so, but his spirit after death I believe would be considered a demon.
He may even be the one who is called the prince of Persia, since that is where he reigned in his life
This would make such a good movie
I get like a Star Wars/Lord of the rings vibe.
It’s been so long since a really good movie 🍿 has been made.
Put this on and fell asleep. Very interesting dreams. Thank you. My first uninterrupted sleep in weeks.
Chapter 5 - the Flood, as a Christian knowing that Abraham left Ur which was part of the culture that held to these myths is very interesting.
