      Hi John, as a local I totally agree. But because we are making videos for people that don't live here yet, we have to use terms they're looking up. But once they get here we'll be sure to let them know the right way to refer to it.

    Lack of a major freeway system is not a “con”. For me it is one of the main reasons I’m looking at moving there. I currently live in a major city with 2 major freeway systems N/S and E/W and I Hate the traffic! Please do not wish that on Spokane!!

    time out spokane has a lot of property crime. if you didn't see it happen then you were asleep.I lived in spokane from 1976 to 2020! my family owned a business in airway heights. spokane has a lot of positive points and a lot of negative points. living in different places really helps someone have a balanced view of spokane. wildfire smoke is a negative every summer. The snow and icy roads are not so nice. I do miss my hometown but it is not the best place to live. it has a lot of positive and negative points. homeless crisis is a problem and spokane doesn't have a cheap cost of living. weed being legal in spokane has brought a lot of problems to spokane. people smoke weed in their cars at lowes north division street is a good example .

    If you move here, and buy a home, make up a new email account, get a disposable phone, and don't put your real names on your house deed. The listing agent sold our info. No one cares. You buy a house everyone knows who you are in a short amount of time. In our neighborhood there are 6 HOAs. They take your money, you get nothing. We had smoke from June to Oct. Air pollution is bad. I think you’re being a little over reactive about some spam calls. Super annoying? Yes! Illegal? Probably not. It’s public record and anyone can request it. Shootings, open drug use, can’t bring your kids to most of the parks because they are not safe, summer is not very good because all the smoke, winter are really to cold, theft is a major problem, it expensive place to live in, for such a bad place to raise your kids. A full grown man went into a store and stabbed a kid a few times that was eating a sandwich with his dad for no known reason. Seattle sends the really violent mental people to Spokane because they don’t want them in Seattle. Spokane use to be a nice place to live, but now I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

      Hi @Penelope Rodriguez, you have to do a little searching but yes, Spokane does have some good restaurants for the types you listed. Thai Bamboo has really good Thai food, I personally like Cafe Rio for Mexican but I know most people would say it’s not authentic Mexican. I can’t eat garlic so Mexican isn’t really on my radar. And for Japanese, I highly recommend Ding How in Liberty Lake. They have excellent sushi! Thanks for watching and commenting.

    What I love about Spokane is there is a lot to do there but it still has that small town vibe to it, I think people there are very friendly unlike Seattle, Yakima and Walla Walla, the one con I have is cost of living has gotten very expensive considering that 7 years ago you could get a nice 3 bedroom house for $175,000, I thought the restaurants in Spokane weren't really that great except for Tomato Street.

      @Tyler Downtown Spokane you can expect many of the same issues that Hollywood struggles with. Homeless camps, needles everywhere, high crime rates and dirty city. Just outside of it though you can expect gorgeous parks, wonderful restaurants, lots of forests, lakes and rivers and all the hiking you could ever want. Pretty decent pay for basic jobs compared to Idaho and a pretty decent music scene.

Back in 2009, I had a 5 bedroom, 2 bath house for $875 a month, back in 2006, I had a 3 bed, 2 bath place for only $675. Now, I consider myself lucky to have a 2 bedroom apartment in Medical lake for $750.

    Born and raised in Spokane and the best part is it's NOT like other big cities around the INW. The best part is how you can drive a short distance in any direction and you'll be out in farm land. But after living about an hour away in N Idaho for 11 years and not venturing off the main beating path for a while when visiting, I've noticed a lot of the nice farm areas are getting packed with houses and widened roads (Bigelow Gulch for example) and it sucks. I'm all for the better roads, but I just hate seeing it grow. As for crime, I can vouch that I've had guns pulled on me in just about every part of Spokane, and my car got stolen once in 2016 from my work (after I moved I still commuted and worked near downtown for 8 years of the 11 I've been gone) had multiple things stolen from in the valley, and witnessed all the above with other people. Not saying the place is ghetto, but things happen in Spokane that not a lot of people would believe. Some of these events were because of my choice of people I hung out with (never done drugs, but some people I knew did before I cut ties with them) and my nightlife scene. One of my favorite sayings I use about Spokane is "it's smaller than you think" due to how I've witnessed rumors and stuff spread like wildfire through the whole city like it was a high school. If that makes any sense. Lol.

    Hello, would you say Spokane is a decent place to raise children? Family friendly to a degree? Is the snow heavier in this part of WA?

    • @LivingLifeNorthIdaho
      @LivingLifeNorthIdaho  2 года назад

      Hi @Rachael Bennick I think there are a lot of places in Spokane that are great for raising kids but like most cities, there are places I would definitely avoid. Downtown is pretty rough but places like spokane valley, the south hill and 5 mile are fantastic areas. The snow is a little heavier but Spokane doesn’t get that much of it. Get a hold of us if you’d like to discuss more specifics about living in Spokane or the surrounding areas. Trent@livinglifenorthidaho.com

      I concur. I have lived here all my life. It is a great place to raise families. I would be careful of some areas In the Spokane Valley. They have had a large homeless camp out there and bums. I hear of shootings there fairly often. I would like to see the city get a handle on the homeless situation. It is scattered here and there.. some places like near downtown where it is the worst.. I know it tends to be more common as a city grows. We do get a number of bums that get sent here from Seattle and Portland as their resources are overtaxed. The 5 mile bluff area is nice. Very expensive though. Nice schools there, but no shopping near there. You have to drive everywhere to shop. The Northwest area is sleeper area with great deals on homes. Stores, parks, schools, places to eat within walking distance. Sports complex with bmx bike track, sports fields, splash pad, walking trails, and skate park--although sometimes the skate park gets the wrong crowd(next to Spokane River--Riverside State park is close by) A new Pub sports bar near Yokes store on Indian Trail rd., Westview elementary is close and is a great school and a new Middle School almost finished. The Downriver area is nice.. They do have bums waunder up from the river somefimes and hang around and panhandle. South Hill is great for schools as Sakajewea is a great school, but Lewis and Clark High School is in a bad location--a real problem with bums and drug users hang around there and car break ins--the South Hill also gets their share of panhandlers. You are better off in the Mead school district. Very expensive though. North Central High school has a special Science program with college level courses where they can learn Genomic and do college level research. They have a full lab that is set up the same as College research center. Kids research real life problems like links between inherited genetic cell defects and cancer cell growth to studying the effects of genetics and how inherited traits are linked to childhood asthma. It is a rigorous 3-4 year program. At the end the students present their findings to researchers/faculty at like WSU, etc. There are numerous options for college here locally. WSU, Gonzag, Whitworth, EWU, Community Colleges. Running Start students in high school can take college AP courses and get their 2 year direct transfer degree cheap from the Community College and start 3rd year in a Bachelors program at a number of University choices in Washington state. Just some options to think of. 😊
