Thanks for this! I'm from Ireland and moving to Spokane in early June so it was nice to see someone from my side of the world enjoying living in Spokane :)
Spokane is alright, it just gets boring after a while. I lived there ten times longer than you bro, I assess is Seattle is prettier and warmer. I am done dealing with the snow, and those roads.
I agree on the need for cycle-friendliness. Also improving the infrastructure for pedestrians/runners/joggers or just simply walking for the sake of walking.
Absolutely, I have to take my bike out in the car to get anywhere worth cycling right now. Having a pedestrianized walking street would be a great idea too!
its going to be a year for my husband and I in August and so far Im still loving it. the only negative that I see is seeing homeless population more out of down town. In other states I have lived at they are normally mostly in down town area. Having said that I hope once every settles down regarding covid and business start going back to normal we can start on solutions.
Totally agree. I want the city to properly address the homeless issue in and around downtown. Get them the help they need and help the city too - it's a win-win in my mind. I'm glad you're enjoying the city :)
I have lived in Spokane for sixteen years, moved from Macon, GA working as a civilian, for the Navy. I was born and raised in NW Tennessee. I have lived in Scotland and spent eight months in Puerto Rico and Okinawa serving in the Navy. I have lived around Napa Vally, CA, WA, VA, DC, MD, MS, FL, KY, GA, and spent a small amount of time in AL, MO. Most of what Mr. Wells spoke about the good and bad was correct. It is a beautiful area of WA and ID with plenty of snowing, fishing, trails and so on. The crime of property and vehicles are true being the fact Spokane needs more hires on the police force, but cannot for having hundreds of lawsuits to deal with. The council men and women elected are not the sharpest tools in the shed. Not counting the second street and surrounding streets in downtown the streets are not good and places are worse than shown in this vid even in downtown. Thanks for poor planning with the power company and the people hired for the upkeep of the streets, as they do not communicate well if at all on tearing up the streets by the power company, then fixing them back, and then the city takes them up again fixing or upgrading something. Also, the city does not have anything for anyone to keep their yards in order like cleanup, mowing, or keeping junk out of their spaces, as which same goes for city own property. There is plenty of coffee shops and stands along with the bars and buying liquor in stores. There are a few tattoo shops and marijuana places, with a few wine shops too. There are plenty of places to eat and not to mention a few hospitals and clinics, with wellness and health clinics. In general, the people are not friendly much to strangers like in the east but getting with the people here they warm up. It is easy to get from point A to point B in Spokane, as from downtown to any place north to south to east to west will take under thirty minutes. The local news stations are just as good as any in America, if not some better.
In reality the cost of living in Spokane is a bit high compared to the median wage average in Spokane making real world affordable housing for a median wage single income family hard to find. Spokane has always had not so good roadways, snowy winters and snow plows are the biggest culprit. Either way I’ll be moving back to Spokane within the next 12 months as I near the end of my military career. I just hope the Spokane area doesn’t get any more expensive to live there in the meantime and continues to keep the hometown feel that I remember it.
I really hope the employment based continues to grow and we get more high paying, skilled jobs. Having said that I’ve helped plenty of single income households and dual income average wage earners get into homes here in Spokane. So while it’s still doable it is getting harder. Thanks for your service, I’m in the Reserves out here. Let’s connect when you’re thinking about moving back.
Me I would lower the cost of living back to 2015 level in Spokane, bring back healthy air quality towards the end of summers (at least up to pre-2015 levels), fix the roads, make Spokane more bike friendly and lower the homeless problem
Thanks for the update! It's always great to hear seasoned perspectives after the honeymoon phase of moving somewhere has waned. Great insight and analysis! 😊
The cost of living is up and doesn’t support the wades in the area. The property crime is one of the worst. The drug use and homeless are out of control. The infrastructure is terrible. Customer service is nonexistent. Not a lot is done to beautify the area. The food is sub par. Things do improve the closer you get to Coeur D Alene. Good luck buying a house. Spokane is number 5 and CDA is number 1 in the nation for the housing boom. The houses you can find are selling well over asking price (20K plus) and doing it within a couple days.
Spokane isn't horrible, but in the 9 years of living here I have noticed a boom in the population and in the homeless community. It used to be a pretty easy going but between California buying up every single property they can get their hands on to make a profit on rentals and all the others seeing it as a potential of how cheap it is to live here I have become less happy being here.
@@LivingInSpokane Glacier lakes around Coeur d'Alene? Where? So my dad has a lake house there, and two of my sisters live there. That is in Idaho by the way. Pend Oreille is also the other side, and we would go there through Newport, and Priest River, and ride up to Sandpoint on the boat. All Idaho, past Newport. Seattle has ferns, banana trees, bamboo, cherimoyas, palm trees, ivy, the ocean, islands, etc. There is a rain shadow effect over there by you, because of the Cascades. Spokane gets like less than half the rain we do, 16 inches. We get 39, and actually we have had 50 inches a couple years or so recently. It's wet here. It's dry there. That is why you get fires. We actually get your smoke. We don't get fires here. All in all, how does that equate to there being prettier, when Seattle is called the "Emerald City" meaning it is "Green" here? You guys are the Lilac City. You have to own that. You get purple flowers and we have lush greenery. Yes, I guess to each their own considering I went to Riverside High School in Chattaroy, and everything is still the same all the time, while they call it "Boom Town" lol. I lived there almost 20 years, coming from Thousand Oaks, CA, where I was born, and grew up until I was 11, and where all my relatives live. Come talk to me when you spend that much of your life in Spokane, if you think it is so great. Go to Division a million times, Sprague, Wellesley, Monroe, Pines, The South Hill, North Town Mall, Downtown, The Valley Mall, Upriver Drive, and so forth. Nothing in your videos educates me bud. I like the greenery here and the temperate weather. I don't like feeling cold or getting studded tires every year, chopping wood, driving on messed up roads with bad drivers etc. Do the math. The weather you get in March is about as cold as it gets here. Cheers mate.
Wow do we have slot in common. I’m from Texas and now live outside of Seattle. Just found your channel. Never been to Spokane, excited to watch more videos and learn more about it.

Another thing what I'm not liking about the Pacific Northwest in general is having to breathe wildfire smoke, that wasn't the norm until several years ago, makes me wonder what went wrong that caused there to be so many wildfires.

I was thinking about moving here from South Yorkshire England my fellow brit. the beauty of the nature is the main attraction but house prices seem to be rising quick
That's awesome, it's a small world! Yeah house prices all over the country are a little out of control due to a low inventory of available homes - I have a market update for May coming soon, stay tuned!
@@LivingInSpokane I, suspected that would be your response. I'm, English too and have lived in Spokane for nearly ten years. Until, MT opened the other Indian restaurants were hopeless, nowhere near as good as MT's curries. However, they don't have a Traditional Tandoori Oven. Which, is a major flaw. No sizzling tandoori Chicken/Shrimp or authentic Naan Bread. Which, you can find in any English Hight Street by the dozen. Finding decent Indian (let alone Southern Indian) restaurants in the US is really problematic. Unless you live in NY. I, found just two in LA after living there for ten years...
Why can't any of you YT real estate agents pick your camera up and take it outside? A little informed opinion is great, but we want to _see_ the city. O_o
20 years here, myself. Sshhhhhhh. It’s a secret! Duh. That’s what’s kept it unique! And I mean that in every sense of the word. Fix the homeless problem and leave the rest. That’s my two cents. It’s unique but changing and if it’s perfect it won’t be for long when the population exceeds the capacity. Some say it already has.
I wish they would add some vibrancy to the city and liven it up more to increase its attractiveness as a destination on par with Portland and Seattle minus their politics. Decent number of upscale restaurants to goto but there doesn’t seem to much other quality or variety of choices in everyday food and nightlife activities yet. Downtown has changed a bit for the better since I first visited in 1998.

I'll tell you I moved from a progressive county in CA to a rural home in WA. Not getting a honeymoon phase, it's all insight!!!✌️💗
I've been there now 3 months and love it more and more everyday.
Nice, I’m glad to hear this. Sure it’s got some downsides but overall I think it’s a cool place to live.
What are schools like, K-12 and colleges/universities?
my biggest question is how inclusive is the city? Things like being Mexican, LGBTQ+, things like that
It's not LA or NYC, but it's a pretty tolerant place overall.
It's MAGA country. Don't go unless you wanna get Smollet'd.
Inclusive?? Lol this city is a joke
