I was at this concert. About six minutes 50 seconds into the song, Mr. Garcia changed the timbre on his guitar and hit a single pitch that went through the entire audience like a soft beam of light from the other side. We were transfixed. Mr. Garcia was transfixed. I watched him starting to move away from that pitch into improvisation, but being drawn like a moth to the light back to it. We were all in the same heart at that moment. I have remembered that moment for 37 years. Thank you for sharing this. May we all know the oneness of a community of hearts!
Shh,, LOVE th little sharing between Jerry an Bob, the slow wait...::::FFF eeee LLL it..... mesmerizing... ripples are running through me.... What aTrip!!

I was sitting on my buddies couch the first time I ever met a wookied out "deadhead". He talked to me like he knew me for years. He popped in a cassette & this was the first song I ever heard from our friends. I know they represent many styles and many decades - but this was the song that brought me in. Thanks...to everyone.
I was at this show with a friend. My first time waiting in line all day. Watched the little kids walk to school up Post St. in the morning, and walk home again in the afternoon. About an hour before the doors opened, one of the roadies I new as "Cowboy", walked down the line putting a drop from a Visine bottle on the back of everyone's hand, including mine. What happened after I licked that drop was magical. Never was a Donna fan but even she sounded good that night . . . or what I remember of it!
@takinthebus Either you're ON the bus or you're OFF the bus. YOU, my friend, are definitely ON the bus! I toured with the boys on my Harley for 10 years before i got my '59 Ford schoolbus and being ON the bus is definitely the way to go!
happy birthday to me today. Aug. 17 is the day to find more GD videos on YT.! never can have too many! again, thanks Chasefukuoka61....you are one great deadhead!!!
My dad worked for a company called North American plywood and he would deliver loads of Finland Birch to the Dead to make speaker cabinets for the wall of sound. Jerry gave him a couple of tickets and I went to my first show in Winterland in in 77. I still go back to the vault of those days for inspiration. Donna was part of it. It was never the same after she left.
@forest1997 The grateful dead only used their "wall of sound" speaker system in 1974. Yes it was incredibly loud and sounded amazing but it nearly bankrupted the band due to the implications of carrying/setting up/taking down a 150,000 lb. sound system with them on tour.
is it true concerts arnt as loud as they used to be? has the dead lost its killer sound system? because "FURTHUR" shows are not that loud. and ive been told the grateful dead were pounding and bombing they were so loud
Have we been blessed to have this Band in our life here on earth or what???!!!! I sure am grateful... LOVE

Yes - a deep meditation that so many of us there joined in. I felt at one point Jerry getting almost "startled" by the unity in the crowd.

Winterland was such a great place to see the Dead perform! so sorry that it's all condos now.
Amazing, I wish I were around to have seen Jerry perform D:

@arcatasteve - i agree. This is one of my favorite Fires.

Martin Slade totally! Donna and Keith brought a very sacred and beautiful chemistry to the dead. After they left it became depressing for a while
Good song
@geekorthodox9 - i agree! folks who checked out the scarlet half of this scarlet/fire without listening to the fire are missing a real treat....
