Jerry is simply amazing here. Really excellent recording from Feb 26, 1977 at the Swing Auditorium.... More songs from 2/26/77 here: www.youtube.com...
This Franklins got me through some tough, tough times. Makes me cry, literally rolls away the dew. Gets all the gunk out of me. Ahh I’m just talking to a brick wall here. I’m a young deadhead here (22), and I just wanted to show my appreciation with y’all. Thank you GD for saving my life. ❤
This has some of my all time favorite playing from Jerry. Those notes he hits sound like teardrops on roses.. too beautiful. This has become a daily play for me
Yes - Bootleg. I still love that term. First had this show on tape....a 3rd Gen Betty-Board. Now my entire collection is digital and stored on a 1TB External Hard Drive. I pretty much have every available show from 1966-1977.....most of which are all soundboards.
I was always Intrigued as to what the topic of this song represents... Franklin's Tower is where the Liberty Bell hangs... loosing your way or being led astray, it just has so many inferences, anyway😯, it was always my concert favorite ...
Jerry's first solo is tabbed and demonstrated by Grateful Guitar Lessons, it's the older FT lesson on that site...I don't know if it's cool to link it here but you can google it....sorry for the ad, but it's worth it buying those lessons if you're lazy and want things tabbed out for you, like me. I am not connected to GGL in any way, except as a customer.
This is one of my favorite versions. It’s whimsical and the band is firing on all cylinders. This night they broke out the first terrapin station and estimated prophet. Both leviathan staples. I’m sure you all know the 5/22/1977 show outside of Miami. 3 months later at the sportatorium show you can sense how the band has settled into these new tunes and how they have evolved. There is more of a hard driving tone with much thunderjuice. Amazing. And as always, thanks for sharing.
@@christianraimondi98 Just listen to Keith's piano playing here and you have your answer. Brent never produced anything like this; his predilection seemed to be for chords on the (non-piano) keyboards held for a long time.
me too from 1967-1981 This san bernardino is a real treat !! got em on an external HD but also on CDs & i've done cover arts for each... Is It Serious Doctor ?? Peace & Music Bro
@@isaiah7317 Thanks! I've gone on such a deep dive into Dead music and history since I asked that...so I actually know exactly who it is at this point;) But thank you either way!!
Okay, fair enough, homey, 'cause I had/have mixed feeelings about Vince, too; but some of those shows where Bruce played WITH Vince? I never got to hear the tapes from the shows I caught out in Tempe, back in Dec. '90 - but I DO remember Bruce tearing the shit out of Tennessee Jed - leaving Vince on the sidelines scratching his balls - I sorta lost my shit at that point... and Jerry's last show in Charlotte? - Bruce flew in for that one, too.
Why not include the absolutely out there and incredible Help on the Way>Slipknot that precedes the Franklin's Tower?? The Slipknot is like no other!!!??

Don't get much better than this. Best year, good strumming!
Keith's playing is great. I like the fact that he isn't playing organ -- which muddies up the sound -- so that you can every instrument clearly.
I am Dead Grateful for the Grateful Dead thanks
One of the very best takes ever!!! Wonderful doesn't even begin to tell it. . .

I couldn't listen to this in my car, be 10 miles past my off ramp before I realized it.
Are you saying it's intoxicating lol.
God bless the Grateful Dead. 🙏🌹🦅
I was there : )

Yes, Chase. Jerry is H.O.T. in the groove and his voice soars.
Thanks.
Have this entire show - kick ass from start to finish :-)

Best thing about the Dead's music. Their songs could have different meanings to different people. But they alway's make everyones night.
The dead have always been worthy of praise.
If get confused listen to the music play !!!!
I think this is Hunter's greatest success at making a song that IS "sometimes the songs that we hear are just songs of our own", lyrically of course

The best Dead lineup.
No, and Brent?
Not the best line-up but these folks sure carried on and created a brand new chapter that still feels wonderful. I adore these years of the Dead.
My favorite lineup is the keith and pigpen days

Just what I needed
Other than flubbing a verse, "God save the child..." it's one of the best instrumental wise.
Right on :)
agreed best version

Whoever that was that disliked this video...I dislike you
"...if you get confused, just listen to the music play"
how do you have this show? Bootleg? Damn I love this song and I think this is best version I've heard.
This is a Betty Board
Pardon my ignorance, but who is that in the middle in the sunglasses? (Not Jerry, of course!) Thanks in advance!
That’s keith man lol!! Keith could play that piano!
