  • Join Aslan & I at the waterpoint in Banbury and having filled the tank, we drop down through the lock and tie up at the service point there.
Later, having completed a further list of essential tasks, I move on a short distance where I once again moor up for the week.
During my stay at the southern end of Banbury, I receive carefully worded career advice from a 'viewer', on RUclips . . .

There are so many people with youtube channels these days that it seems like any Tom, Dick or Harry with a video camera is intent on making it big via those videos and attracting subscribers. It can be most difficult to stand out among the crowd. But Kevin has found the formula. And I think a big part of that winning recipe is the fact that he reads all of the comments we viewers post after each of his weekly offerings. It gives you a feeling of belonging. You have actually talked to the Country House Gent! He might not have replied, but he read your words. This personal connection makes every minute on Aslan feel like you are part of "the crew" so to speak. And so we live vicariously through Kevin as we travel the canals and worry if we will find a suitable mooring around the next bend.

Thanks again for sharing your adventures and your thoughts with me (even the senior moment 🤣).
It’s all very much appreciated. Cheers.
In the first four minutes, at around 2:20, I loved seeing the adult and a couple of young kids all standing, waiting on the little bridge just to watch Aslan glide on by and listen to the thump of the motor.
But then the next pair at around 3:53 were awesome. The kid exclaiming loudly - WOW!! 🤩 and then you give a short blast of your boats horn as you disappeared under the bridge.
Then, with a small giggle from you, it just made the whole thing perfect.
I’m hoping that seeing Aslan becomes a core memory for those kids, and that sparks something wonderful and creative inside them.
    Brilliant, just brilliant.
    🙂🐿🌈❤️
P.s I couldn’t see the second kid after they shouted “wow!!”, but I’m imagining that kid jumping up and down like a spring with the excitement of it all. So funny

My wife and I have enjoyed watching your videos since the first series! Thank you for producing! The thought has occurred to me while watching the scenery looking forward as you cruise down the canal that if you were to use a wide angle lens the experience would be more "immersive". Using 16:9 aspect ratio looks fine, and is what we are used to, but recently I have discovered via various projects of mine that when viewing scenery, a wider aspect ratio really makes you feel like you there by seeing and experiencing things more like the human eye sees them. By "wide angle" I mean a lens with a field of view of about 100 degrees. Of course your posted videos would have a different aspect ratio. This kind of video would just be for watching the scenery go by. Anything else would be a "normal" lens. Experiment with it and see if you don't think widening the view gives a more immersive experience. Summary: 16:9 is kind of like viewing the world through a toilet paper tube. 100 degrees is more like viewing the world with your eyes. Just an idea! Keep up the good work! :o)

Hello Kevin hope you are well. When I last travelled on the South Oxford in September 1984, it was a beautifully tranquil, some what neglected canal, a bit short of water in places and many of the lock keepers cottages were empty. There was no pub at Grants Lock, it was just a very run down squatters dump, littered with rubbish. The M40 was a planners dream, and I have to confess I was one of many who was very appreciative of it when having to travel back and forth from our home in Shropshire to families in Kent in the nineties, but how it has destroyed that once lovely, quiet and tranquil canal. One of so few that did not had a railway line adjacent to it, though in my opinion the noise of a passing train is far better than the almost constant 'white noise' of vehicular traffic passing continuously at speed! Stay safe and enjoy you cruising, you idle s--t!!!

Thank you Kevin. Started my weekend just right! I've been following your "tour" of the canals for years (from the beginning, through all the venues, from the living-in-the-van until Aslan is completely fitted and put into the water. Your adventures, combined with your stoic resilience has bolstered me through some tougher times. Though the US is not a "socialist" country... as a nation though... the people are gradually making it more social... and... you may wonder why I'm veering into a diatribe here.... but... as a 61 year old, twice divorced man, I am awaiting shoulder surgery (should be scheduled by the end of today) for a stupid motorcycle wreck I incurred because... I'm not as young as I used to be. Not gonna sell the bike, rather just ride it for short distances on the road, and not any more "exciting trail rides!" On a lighter note, the railway viaduct you filmed just south of Kings Sutton belonged to the "Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway". The Cheltenham to Chipping Norton stretch was closed in 1962, the Chipping Norton to Banbury stretch underneath which you (would have) passed closed already in 1951, so not the fault of the wicked Mr. Beeching.

Glad to hear you "blocked the fool" (or word's to that effect) who thought it ok to have a dig.....must add, we happened across another channel where you made an appearance. How amazing it is to bump into someone from thousands of miles away, you both be in the same place at the right time to meet each other. The man from Boston must be chuffed to bits, what a story to be able to tell, and you of course. I was once told..... YOU ARE WHERE YOU ARE MEANT TO BE......i do believe there is something in that. Anyway Kevin, all the best for now, keep safe and warm now the weather is turning. Floss & Jan x

Hi Kevin. Thanks for the great vlogs. Your going through some very familiar countryside for me and my wife. Over 50 years ago I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford while in the US AIR FORCE, I met my lovely wife there. One of our favorite photos happens to be of us on a canal bridge in Lower Heyford.
We've enjoyed your Travels by Narrowboat from the beginning. Carry on just the way you are!
    Cheers Richard & Pauline

Hi Richard and Pauline. I'll be at Lower Heyford in the next couple of episodes. Quite the fabulous original old village and as it turned out, a very useful railway station. 🙂

Oh, Kevin, why would anyone take the time to write you such a nasty thing! So glad you can take your great attitude!
I hope you still like boating, it seems like hard work! Still like your videos and views of England!

Kevin, I saw that obscene comment and wondered just how miserable a person would have to be to think it was appropriate or helpful to post such a thing. 🤨
Good to see you and Aslan and the beautiful countryside. All the best from Sandra in Arizona. 😊

your commenter is likely envious that you are living the life of a free spirit unlike most out there! You have a job and it's to enjoy your life doing what you love!

So Kevin, I’ve been subscribed for a while and (I think) not left a comment yet.
But that response to the comment was wonderful and I sprayed a glass of wine with laugher when it came up on screen.
That said you are now an idol, it’s in writing!
Take care, and thanks for that laugh!
    Col!

shouldn't concern yourself about the rude naysayer, Kevin, he's probably on his first smartphone...visually appealing episode, the subdued lighting lent a comforting and peaceful air to the video -- the Oxford: a great canal!!!

Hi fellow Kevin, yet again great video loved the scenery 👌 those lift bridges being left open are a godsend for you single handed boating isn't great without any landings eh.
Brian didn't bother you much just a bit of drizzle typical British weather.
Banbury looked interesting, will plan a visit for next year as love walking the canals as well as kayaking them so add that with a stroll around the streets we'll be sure to see a few sights and smells eh.
See you next week on your next episode ...

I noticed you passed a mobile home park in Banbury and thought how awful their mobile homes are compared to your “mobile home” in Aslan! You have frequent lovely views and don’t have to put up neighbors in your business 😂😂 you get to enjoy new scenery daily if you want or spend a week or two somewhere you like. It’s a good life! 😊

Well, are you absolutely sure that brilliant commenter wasn’t “Idol” worshiping brother? 😂 I’m with you, sometimes they’re so absurd you can’t help but laugh. Keep on keeping on brother. Like most , I’m still 🎣 hooked! Great job! 👍🏻
