- Join Aslan and I as we continue along the south Oxford canal, heading towards Fenny Compton and it's Co Op grocery store - where I also moor for the night.
In the morning and rather than stay for the next 5 days, I decide to move on and soon begin the descent of the Claydon flight of locks, as we make our way towards the village of Cropredy.
Along the way, the scenery becomes increasingly picturesque . . .

The Friday Fix is back!
You are the first channel about narrow boat life I watched. Now I am planning with my partner to live this life in retirement. Hope to be on the canals by summer of 2024! Thank you for your inspiration!
Best of luck Susan, hope you enjoy the canal life. 🙂
@@CountryHouseGent well thank you so much! I will be moving to the UK in January and my next great adventure will begin!!!!
Watched it standing up Kevin... besides you, Heidi and a couple other boating channels. Let’s face it, 99.999 percent of these so called 'narrowboat channels' are in it for click bait, it's nice to have you back, giving it 'the gentle life, because that's what boating is all about!
Always nice to hear from you and cheers for watching
I’ve been a subscriber since Kevin first started I think. Anyway it’s been a while. I’m a big fan of his and Heidi’s.
Forget watercolors Kevin, your ART is expressed through the many lenses of your cameras for all of us to behold and appreciate. It is and has been superb in all aspects.
Fabulous to hear that, thank you.
Well said.
Hear hear.
I don't need a narrow boat of my own, I can just vicariously enjoy travelling on Aslan.
Enjoyed your regularly scheduled video. My main take away was the hilarious suggestion that the walk to the shop had lengthened over time due to global warming 😆! I'm stealing that one. Yes, my bum has enlarged over the years due to global warming...very nice. 👍 😁
😆😆😆 Yes it's the excuse that keeps giving. 🤗
After your short break, it feels like a new season has arrived! Quality composition, ever-improving editing skill - makes this channel one of my very favorite among narrowboaters. Thanks and safe cruising!
I don’t know why, but I really love the sound of locks filling. We have giant locks in Seattle but the sound of them is magnified in those smaller locks you’re traveling through. Once again, nice to travel with you. ❤
Welcome back, Kevin and Aslan. I’m late to the party. Upside is, I get a double bill. So good to have you both back. Bliss. Hearing your familiar dulcet tones, and Aslan’s too. Let alone the impeccable cinematography.
Talking about art.
My mate Paul at work thought he would have a art painting lesson with a well known professional east anglian water colour artist.
Can't remember his name, but my mate on setting up his paint brushes and easel, the artist walked by my mate Paul and looking at his collection of brushes.
and promptly said to him you can put them jam spreaders away.
The rest of the class chuckled.
To say my mate was embarrassed was an understatement.
Loving the videos Kevin.
Hello Kevin, great vlog as always. I'm the boater that blamed you (jokingly) for living out on the canals. But the truth is:. " YOU'RE MY HERO" sorry, I can't do a scouse accent haha!
Aha, hello sir. Great to meet you moored up there and yes, it's all in good jest. Have a goodun. 🙂
Well, er, he does live out on the canals? Not sure if that needs any blame, or otherwise?
21:13 if anyone is confused
Kevin, you and Vince should have had some meaningful conversations! If I know Vince!
Global warming for the shop, brilliant!🤣
@@outandabout5247 Hello Jeff. I doubt if Kevin has ever seen my little channel. But I do agree about the interesting chat haha!
That nice gentleman you came across on your travels was my dad ☺️ we used to watch you before he got his boat Aitch. I now have a narrowboat of my own too haha.. All the best x
I’ve seen you helping your dad out. You obviously enjoyed it.
Awesome Clare, what a small world. Hello Clare's dad, your help was greatly appreciated, especially in that heat. 🤗
I really enjoy your dad's channel Clare - I've watched it since he started.
Clare, I went to see dad a couple of times when he was stuck in Bishops Stortford a few years back, seen you on his videos too, . Is your boat on the Lea?
@raysmith6891 yes I really have enjoyed it ray
Great to have you and Aslan back with us. Always a delight to watch your videos and enjoy your journeys with you.
So pleased you are back, even thow I am on the cut ( the canal ) as well.
You take me place's where I have never been before and for that reason I thank you very much.
Take care my friend until next time X X X
Plus I am on crutches and have now brought a wheelchair so I won't ever visit these places , your video's take me there.
I love your channel
🎉 It is good to see you and Aslan again. What a wonderful honor that you have influenced so many to a calmer, more tranquil life. 😂
😁 Quite a burden for sure - and I haven't been sued, yet. 🤭
Loved the global warming comment. I'm glad you're back
yes, me too 😅
I just finished watching your episodes (again, and again) on Amazon Prime. The best form of stay-at-home vacation in the universe.
Thank you Kelly, haven't heard the series put that way before but sounds spot on "stay at home vacation." 🙂
@@CountryHouseGent Yes, I am no captain or mechanic, nor have basic knowledge of the canals. Best I stay at home and watch you do it. 🖖
Same here! Discovered on Amazon Prime and was very quickly hooked....felt like free holiday with canal tour guide not to mention cooking lessons 😊
Filling back in a other time!!😊thanks for having me, by the way good to see back my friend. 😃🖐
Lovely to see this, reminder of sunny days.
🎶Oh what a beautiful day! 🎶 -Cheers from Seattle!
Hi nice to see you on the move again on a canal that I am very familiar with. Bringing back great memories. Thanks
Very peaceful cruise Kevin. Thanks!
Well worth the wait. Lovely and relaxing contrast to a dismal, wet and dreary November day in the megopolis 👍
Cheers. Yes, it is a bit grey and wet.
Oh oh oh!!!! Quick..... put kettle on, make cuppa and get comfy..... "KEV'S UP" time for the best half an hour on the box...... glad to see you back Kevin, haven't watched this yet, waiting for kettle.... all the best for now floss and Jan xx
Cheers guys 🙂
Loved watching you back on the box and hearing the beautiful thud of Aslan's engine, like having a catch up with a dear friend. Cheers Kevin, you keep safe and always take time for you. Best wishes floss and Jan x
I have been away and just now caught an episode. I missed the sound of Asland puttering. I love to fall asleep to that sound.
Thanks for sharing Kevin. As with watching golf on the screen, the sound of aslan doing her thing makes for a great weekend nap. First watch for me is the relaxing nap and later a restart and finish up on the second pass. Big fan for years….hoping for years to come.
So nice to see you and another thoroughly enjoyable Vlog and yes you are responsible for helping us decide we are lifting our retirement well part retired on the canals, thank you ❤❤❤😊
Happy to be of service Jacqueline. Hope you're enjoying your semi-retirement. 🙂
A few months ago 2023 my daughter and I were in England and enjoyed two short canal trips. Very enjoyable
Thank you for this episode, it brought back such good memories of when we had our 37’ Colecraft Wander, which we kept at Fenny Compton Marina. Absolutely loved it there 🙏
Fenny Compton marina looked very inviting.
@@CountryHouseGent Yes we loved it there, we made to mistake of moving south near home at the time on to the Wey Canal in Surrey, it was like moving on to a motorway 🤣
Wow, the oak man!
Thanks! Welcome Back. Happy to send a little your way. Hugely grateful to have found TBN!!
Ah thank you so much Wendy and pleased to see the videos are being enjoyed so much. 🙂
Love the varied points of view you give us. Sometimes sitting on the balance beams as you open or close the locks. Fun.
Hi Kevin. Great to have another of your wonderful videos. Looking forward to all. Thank you.
Great video as always Kevin. You have solved one of science's great mysteries, the rate of the expansion of the universe. We now know that it is .5 miles every 23 years. I will notify the Nobel foundation and have them prepare your prize. Cheers Mate!
I enjoy being educated in things British as I view these here in the middle of Minnesota, USA. I tend to pause the video often and look up terms. "Bendy Bullies" was the latest. Fun also to see the difference in highway signs. Here, "YIELD," there, the more gentle sounding, "Give Way."
Indeed Wendy, Bendy Bullies and Bullseye were a national institution at one point. Who'd have imagined a game show based on darts. 😆
Glad you are back!
Thank you. Great to be back.
Spotted your evil twin there. Must say he's a handsome devil!
Great as always 🎉 missed your videos for past couple weeks!!!!!
You need a hat Kevin. Good to have you back.
Kevin and Aslan are back! Wonderful! ❤️
Grand cruise Kevin hope you feeling much better and in a good place tc now the oldies👍🤗👍🤗
Good to have you and Aslan back Kevin . . you’ve been missed 😊
We have watched other narrow boaters this week. Apparently you have had a flood and everyone of them filmed it. I loved the videos. It’s crazy that you can travel your country by ditch. Lol!
Hi Ben. So far I haven't witnessed any signs of flooding where I've been. Lots of rain though.
It’s awesome to see you back Kevin, I hope your break was relaxing. I’m excited about what is to come and look forward to the rest of season 10 and beyond. Cheers, your fan Kevin from across the pond.
Many thanks fellow Kevin. Yes plenty more good stuff to come. 🙂
Nice to see this season back and the lovely scenery, ' and picture post cards' indeed. I wish i was in your 'old shoes' .. catch you later i've got stuff i need to do and they say "Tom Waits for no man" 😁🤣👍🤘🤘🤘
I wish that I could blame you for living on the canals 🙂but it will have to remain a dream. I live in the US, and sadly it will never happen. Which is why I love your adventures so much. I look forward to every episode, and I hope that you never stop. Stay safe!!
More beautiful scenery Kevin, and while I know you probably prefer the wider, more open landscape, it's some of my favorite scenes watching you navigate slowly through the narrow overgrown portions of the canal. How odd that they took out the tunnel. So glad you're back on; it has been like a couple of mini-seasons. Maybe that's how you should do this in the future? Less pressure on you. How fabulous to find those you've inspired to change their lifestyles! Watching & loving you from West Texas--
Hello Kevin. When I last cruised the South Oxford in September 1984, the Wormleighton reservoir was there, but I recall did not have a lot of water, farmer Andrew Cox Granary Museum in Claydon Village was in its infancy. The house on Claydon Top Lock was a BWB covered wet dock the 13th Century Village of Wormleighton was there consisting of a church, manor house and a row of cottages and there was now big marina af Fenny Compton. Sadly the coming of the M40 motorway saw a lot of the very rural and lovely canal ruined in places in my opinion. But such is the great march of regress!
Hi Rex. Yes I was amazed to see a marina at Cropredy. My guide book is so old, it's not on there. Pleased to see Cropredy itself remains pretty much unscathed. Very beautiful area. 🙂
❤ OH Kevin, please never stop doing these videos. They are so amazingly gorgeous. I wish I could experience that beauty in real life, but your channel gives me this opportunity anyway. My heart smiles when I see you have a new show out. Bless you!
~Leilani in California
Great to have you back on the screen winding your way along. I look forward to the rest of the season and really wish I had the the ability to join you in the canal life. Maybe one day 😊
I say old chap.....jolly good to see you back on track...or canal!! 🙂
Thank you kind sir and it's a pleasure to be back. 🙂
Kevin thanks for the ride, really appreciated the quiet and calm of the journey, cheers mate Charlie from Pennsylvania 😊
Nice to have you back👍
The double cut of you was pretty darn cool”
He comes in handy on occasion. 😁
Thanks Kevin
Glad your back. Missed your vlog. Great conversation and scenery. Enjoy the journeys. Seeing places and things I could never expect to visit. Being taken along with you is a pleasure.
What a pleasant surprise to log into RUclips and see a new vid from my favorite narrow boater. Welcome back! :)
Nice one Kev, always look forward to watching a new vid from your channel.
Yayyy!! CHG and Aslan is back!!!
Hello Kevin, I’m happy to watch your vlogs again. Been gone for awhile and it’s great to watch your adventures again.
Good to see you back……..everyone needs a break now & then….Chow
Hi Kevin. Great to watch your videos again. It’s nice to look back to the better weather. Spoiler alert it’s going to get quite a bit wetter 😄 Have a great week. Take care. Nick
Cheers Nick. Yes I think a warm and sunny video is better appreciated during the cold and wet season. 🙂
Hi kevin and aslan, Fenny Compton tunnel was demolished in 1838 - 40 and a brickworks was established.
Good to see you back,. You are not totally responsible, but next year I will be giving up my sticks and bricks to move into a camper van full time. I will be traveling around the states, just me, my old dog, and a cat, and visitting old friends and seeing the sites. Hopefully, I'll be in by my 70th birthday. Adventure before dementia!
Sounds like a wonderful journey of adventure and discovery and as you say, while you're still able. Nothing hits harder than regret when it's too late.
That was practically no "break" at all! Can't wait to watch this tonight.
It was more an opportunity to ease off the pace and catch up - as well as make it through a 21 mile stretch of total isolation. Worked a charm. 🙂
Yessssss! Watching now. ❤ Welcome back
Kevin, Trust me, you're quite the artist in your own right. I've enjoyed your travels even more with the VR goggles... it looks awesome!! Be well, and cheers from Tennessee, USA
Ah, Kevin! How lovely to have you and Aslan back with us! I will admit to tearing up a bit when I first heard Aslan and then, soon thereafter, my favorite aOOOOga as you two entered a blind spot. You are an inspiration to many of us--even landlocked folks in the Southwest US (pointing at self). Keep on keeping on. 😊
Welcome back!
Thanks!
Many thanks Karen, I appreciate that very much.
Such a lovely film CHG. Thank you for sharing! You excel at what you do.
Hello Kevin, how lovely to see you & Aslan back for more adventures. Living the life of riley. Although I wouldn't find it as easy and luxurious as some may think it to be Just you and your thoughts to sooth us along. I were Tickled Pink to hear my bell go off to announce your arrival once again. It made my day Kevin. Peace and respect. 🖖
Love this channel and the adventures it allows me to be apart of. Thanks Kevin!
Great to see your back after a break, stay safe and keep well.
Nice to see you back. You were missed.
Nice to be back Marion, cheers.
My weekly fix is back....house is sold a life on the cut is closer the new adventure begins😊
Quite incredible Kitty. It's come around so quickly. You're in for a fab time I reckon, just give yourself over to it and in 3 months or so, spring will be on the way. 🙂
Nice to see you back again. Hope you are feeling refreshed! Should have kept that painting look what Picasso’s are fetching!
Great to see you back mate 👍👍👍👌👌
Great to see you both again Kevin and what a wonderful canal. Looking forward next week and your impressions of Croperdy, I met a few interesting characters there a couple of years ago....
It's a very pretty village.
seemed a helpful chap - that one who had the same hat as you! good to see you back Kevin 😁😁☕☕🫖🫖
great to see you again Kevin and you look rested and restored. Lovely weather for you and as always great scenery. Thank you for inspiring others to take the leap into creating a more restful peaceful life.
Nice to watch you. First came upon you back in 2019 when recovering from hip surgery on Amazon. My wife wants to send me on a UK canal venture (old Erie Canal cruiser here) along with my 30 something son (I think to keep out of the pubs).
I say go for it Don. I'm sure it'll be an experience to treasure. 🙂
Yes, Kevin, your art is manifest in your videos. Keep them coming. Watercolors are a difficult medium. For years, I have been a graphic designer and artist. To attempt watercolors for the first time at the age of 45 is commendable. It takes a lot of practice to master them. If you still want to paint and have the time, there are many RUclips videos available. I would suggest acrylics. 😊
It was definitely a one off. I stumbled across an old water colour set. Bought some cheap canvas board and decided I was going to be a painter. The cold-blooded review of my masterpiece killed it for me and I never raised a brush again 😥🤗🙂
@@CountryHouseGent GraphicsGuru is right. Watercolor is kid-associated because kids' watercolor sets are cheap, not because they're kid-easy. Acrylics, much better place to begin.
Great to see you back👍
Good to have you back Kevin. Really enjoyed your vlog, you're a man full of knowledge ❤See you soon xx
Loved this episode! Reminded me so much of the earlier stuff…. You are the star Kevin!
Ah, Cropredy, my neck o' woods. Judging by the weather this was filmed a couple of months ago. I heard Aslan's distinctive sound as you left the village but wasn't near enough the towpath to be able to give you a wave. Lovely to see the place from a different perspective, great job, thanks for sharing.
Yes this was filmed before I took a 4 week break. Cropredy is a very characterful village.
glad you're back :-) when i no longer have my rescue animals it's a boat for me in ireland
Just lovely. 🙂
Good to see you back Kevin. Got my Saturday morning ritual fully restored , Toast, coffee, CHG & Aslan crushing the canals. Thanks Kevin.
Great see back kevin , 👍
glad your back i so enjoy your edventures
So, so glad you are back.
If only I was brave enough to sell my bricks and mortar and live aboard, fascinated by the lifestyle for years. Oh well I suppose I will continue to follow the regular vloggers 😊 thanks Kevin for the vlog 😊
missed you Kevin... welcome back.. hope all is well..
Lovely watch again, I find your videos massively calming and relaxing, so looking forward to the next one!!! :)
Glad you're back Kevin!! 👍
Another gentle cruise but with lots of useful info. We haven't done that canal yet but feel better able to tackle it knowing where shops are etc.
Nice to see you again!
Glad to see you're back. We've missed you!🎉
