While I’m singing your praises because I choose to do so not because I’m sucking up, I must add your cooking is top notch, your as-it-happens audio and videography is always followed by excellent editing. You’re highly entertaining as well, and I’m so glad you’ve made this new series! Watching that dog have a blast chasing up and down on the towpath beside you and Aslan proved a big treat for me over here in Portland, Oregon. Thanks for the bit of preview for what’s next. See you soon!
Kevin, you are such a good citizen. You even repaired the damage to Aslan done by those disrespectful boaters. I'm really enjoying season 9. The first episode discussion of an historic spot was lovely. You are resiliant!
I hear you Kevin. I acknowledge your subtle nods to the agenda, some of us have the ears to hear it. Happy boating and thank you for your great videos ❤️
Hooligans on the canals!!! We must be in the end of days😅🤣......funny how the met office never predict the chem trails either!😅...thanks for the great vids...👍
Thank you Kevin! Another episode with history and wisdom. The beautiful scenery was the icing on the boat. Hopefully you encounter a boater with more experience in the future. As always I enjoyed it very much.😊
I would like to make a observation I personal like you going up and down the canals that is very interesting peaceful the same canals it doesn’t matter it’s all lovely you dont even have to change things up just the idea of the tranquillity of going down the canals Kevin is beautiful❤
As equal to the fact that those two were colossal bellends, is that you are a certified top geezer of legendary status. Cheers, Kev - as enjoyable a watch as ever.
Hi Kevin, so nice to hear the soothing sound of Aslan's engine 😊 like music to the ears. You are right about politics they are causing severe problems with mental health and the weather forecast was always given in a calm and peaceful tone when I was a kid too, I don't bother now to take any notice after Michael Fish denied the hurricane in 1987, the night sevenoaks became one😢 happy travels
Kevin.... Reckless boaters... You are right about Met Office etc. Our freedoms are ebbing like the tide at the end of my road.... wise words and you are great company. Keep at it . Bob.From a dank and drizzly Weston super Mare
As you said Kevin, not the prettiest stretch of canal. But there were a few nice spots. And you gave us some interesting bits of information along the way. A pity about the cowboy boater. There’s always one, as they say. You touched up Aslan very nicely, however. Look forward to the next episode. Love from Connie. 😀
Kevin you remembered the tour of Fazeley Junction, thanks, I kept waiting for the dog chasing Aslan to jump in the water, now that would be epic, cheers, Charlie from Pennsylvania 😂
Happy St. Patrick's Day Kevin! I have a name for people who behave badly and refuse to take responsibility for their actions. It's ASSHAT! I work in customer service and encounter them sometimes myself. 😊 Hope you have a great week!
And to you Sonya. 🙂 I used to run a self-catering holiday home. Some would break things and would get quite nasty if you suggested they paid for it. All very weird. 🤔🙂
@@CountryHouseGent sounds like when my kids were small and something would get broken....amazingly no one knew how it happened...so I started saying it was the family ghost. 🤣
Thank you, Kevin, for putting those pathetic palookas behind you and turning today's journey into an oasis. Sadly, you are so right about many people not even realizing the negative effects of the way we live our lives--or don't live them. Thank you for not being one of them. Cheers!
Ah, Hullabaloos (for those who know their Arthur Ransome), the bane of the world, they be. And resorting to prattery is only to be expected from a prat, innit? Lovely video, as always, Kevin. I really like the bits and bobs of everything you share with us, oh wise one.
Excellent episode Kevin!! All that drama kept the tension up throughout the episode.... How much did you pay those blokes? ROFL... BTW, talk about any subject you want, it's your show afterall. Lovely to cruise along with you and Aslan, on a gentle day, and with all the fans giving you a wave... perfect. Cheers, from Tennessee, USA
Love the use of the noun 'Chesterfield sofa', we used to use that term in Canada to describe any couch or sofa, but it's dying out now, I know he's using it correctly, but it made me feel nostalgic.
Wow...crazy hire boat folk! You took it well. I enjoyed it! I'll be in Scotland visiting for the 1st time next month, being a tourist! I'll be thinking of you. Cheers!
Got stuck in the first lock on the T&M coming up from Sawley back in 2021. Doubled up with a boater, not realising he was pissed! ‘Weekend Warrior’s’ on the Canal’s? An absolute nightmare. Long story short, his bow got caught under one of the locks cross beams whilst the lock was filling, the prat lost control and unhinged the lock gate! CRT we’re not happy. Glad you took that advise at Fazeley Junction, those yards on the other side of the tow path are well noisy! Say hello when you come passed Mancetter Marina👍🏼
Wow Nigel. Yes I can imagine CRT were more than a little p****d. Getting a 5 ton lock gate back on it's spindle requires hiring a crane (or a huge crowbar) and ruins several days cruising for everyone else. Bet the drunken guy thought he was in full control of his faculties?
Thanks Kevin, for taking us along on this great cruise apart from the people on the hire boat that appeared to have no operating brain cells. It's terrific stuff "hammerite" smooth, I used to use it on a couple of old bike frames and it did a great job. Some of the gardens at the back of the houses were brilliant. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Sorry about your boat, I would have expected that kind of attitude here in the states. But I was some what surprised seeing it there. But you had some paint, I thought that was cool. I like your Harley Davidson mug, I once had a Harley. It was a 1977 XLCH 1000, kick start only. I got in some trouble with it. So I had to let it go. I am 66yrs old now and blind in my left eye, that took away my sense of balance. So now that I've enough sense to ride, I can't. 😢I agree about people freaking out over the weather. Its going to be what its going to be, just deal with it. O by the way I am a new subscriber, I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for the ride.
Little tip Kevin. When opening bottom lock gates - cross to the far side and open that gate first, then step across back to the towpath side and open that gate. It Saves walking up to top gate to cross. Cuts out walking the length of the lock twice 👍
@@CountryHouseGent No problem Kevin, we all suffer from a “one off”. (Me more than most nowadays). It’s just nice to see folks adopt the old boatmen’s ways. They knew what worked best. I know your in no hurry and you’ve got all the time in the world. It’s just efficient working that’s all.
That theme song continues to please, Kevin. As for the careless boat driver who was bouncing off of things, including your boat, I hope that each of you who were struck by him reported it to his employer. The various decorations along this route were amusing, including the blowup guy leaning against the tree and the drawings in the tunnel. I really thought you were about to have a canine visitor. Great to hear you enjoy the tune. 🙂 Yes it is refreshing to see how people decorate their boats in often unusual ways. No end of variety amd individuality.
Would have been interesting watching if you were able to film the rest of that dude's day. I can't imagine the mayhem. I think you should be nominated for sainthood
Outer and inner 'ouch' pain and disturbance for you Kevin and Aslan, sorry to see and feel, ever increasing sad and low vibrational souls these days, we are the rich ones.
You handled that t**t very well, better than we would have done. Listening to the other boaters and what they saw, that boat should have been reported to the hire company or CRT. Next time, it could be a lot more serious!
That boat held a couple of jerks...that's for sure. Thanks for the ride along. It's always nice to see somewhere different. I never know what I'm going to see on some of these boats or along the canal by the houses. 😅. Safe travels and cheers!
Shame about the boob noob and his finger happy stooge. But good on you for taking the high road and not giving them both heck. Nice you had a bit of paint on hand to touch up. Kevin, I do believe it's time for a cookery vlog 😁. Stay safe!
Aslan an you are looking well. I have mostly been watching the series on Amazon at night, but I just realized I might be able to watch your other seasons on RUclips with my new TV. I'm going to give it a try tonight. My old TV didn't get along with RUclips. Cheers to you both from NJ in USA...
Hi Kevin, when you are Polesworth way again there is a cracking Indian resto/takeaway above the Bulls Head pub close to the canal bridge. Give it a go and I don't think you will be disappointed. Also knowing that you appreciate a nice 'growler' try the butchers in Braunston village. Keep up the good work, all the best Chris.
I noticed that the guy on the boat that crashed into you was holding up both hands saying “ Your number one”. Well, at least he recognized talent. 😮 I agree about the weather. There is a segment of politics that seems to create artificial emergencies so they can be seen as being “aware & on top of it” so they can come to the rescue - whether we need saving or not. 🥴
Well we are learning how to deal with situations through your very polite way of handling things. I’m thinking of buying a catapault 😅. Lovely footage of your journey x
I found out a bit more about 'Forget-Me-Knot'. It's not a hire boat, but part of a boat share scheme (easily found on google). Basically a narrowboat timeshare. A lovely looking boat, save for an ugly green smear down the port flank! As such, one can imagine that there isn't a hire boat base to give any basic training to novice boaters.
Ah now that is interesting, Robin. Yes it was a fine looking craft, just not for much longer being treated like that. Wonder what scraping it down the side of the bridge did to the roof edge and gunnels.
@@robh69 Thanks Rob for pointing this out - it is a shared ownership boat built by Hexagon in 2010. The owner died and it was bought by a syndicate and based at Fazeley - my alarm bells started ringing when Kevin mentioned bow-thrusters (and I couldn't recall any hire boat operators near that spot). As someone who has followed Kevin from the start of his ventures, I'm really disappointed to see him making this lazy mistake and spreading such ill-will towards hirers.
Ah is that the tale of leeky lock? Had thought I'd filmed it but turned out the camera was paused when I thought it was recording. I did show it in season one though many moons ago.
Ooooh! Lovely.....Friday, Kevin, cuppa and a custard tart.....what a way to start the weekend. Thanks Kevin for the video, as usual a lovely trip out with you and Aslan. All the best Kevin, keep safe. Floss & Jan x
Are there no canal police to deal with careless drivers? Poor Aslan. You made me literally lol with your priory tale. 😂 Thank you for another Saturday journey into your peaceful world. ♥️☘️
There was recently an article about police in Britain 'persuing' a stolen boat along the canal, by walking along the towpath. An officer did say it was the slowest and longest chase he'd ever been involved in. In the end, they just waited until the genius onboard arrived at a lock and nicked the guy. :D
Oooh...what a pain in the bum to have to encounter, thats my polite phrasing!!!! Not needed with that attitude on the cut!!! You managed a cool dude persona for that incident....what a gent!! Great vlog....poor Aslan, glad to see her wounds were dealt with by a caring hand. X
I am grateful it was only paint and no more serious damage was done. Considering it was industrious in the past, they are showing some reclamation even if unintentional.
Kevin you are a much more kinder and subtler person than myself (I am a Yank after all). The double "you're number 1's" they displayed after you made a simple suggestion, demonstrates the proper "see you next Tuesday" types they really are! Cheers for the setting the example! PS loving the new intro btw it's like a blues meets P.I.L. fusion kinda thang happenin!
A great video. I saw a few pals in this vid too. I took this route back in December, so it's interesting to see it through someone else's eyes. I was frozen in by the Co-Op at Glascote. It was a real life line. Sadly, the local gentry took it upon themselves to throw branches, rocks, bottles and cans onto the frozen ice.
Hi. I saw that a lot during the last freeze as well. Dumbasses don't realise or care that when it thaws, it all drops to the bottom until some poor saps propeller comes along. 🙄
I follow several narrowboat vloggers and occasionally there is a "conjunction" . Today it was a "Fazeley conjunction" with Aslan and Chugabug prowling the same waters (although the vlogs were done months apart). Reminds me of the time I watched two narrowboat vlogs where the boaters passed the same "porcelain throne" beside the Coventry Canal at bridge 14 (I think...). The vloggers were travelling in opposite directions and, of course, the vlogs were done months apart BUT the same majestic biffy viewed in all its glory twice, literally an hour apart. Perhaps the companies that hire out boats should shine a torch in one ear of some of these boat renters just to see if there actually is something in there that will prevent the light from exiting the other ear unimpeded! Those fools were probably "half in the bag" already (not a good thing when they are witless to start with!). As the saying goes..."you can't fix stupid"...it eventually fixes itself... one way or another...
Greetings Kevin, Thanks for another great episode of your life on the canal I think you should have titled this one "What should we do with a drunken sailor". I have met a few like that on the rivers, it's like being in a bumper car on the fairground at times. I have learnt something new I did not know a narrowboat has a bow thruster.
You're way too kind pixelating those bawbags.
It's a sign of the times I'm afraid. If they were identifiable and were to see the video, the culprits would more than likely believe they were now a victim (like Will Smith) and attempt to sue. Sadly the way things are now, they would probably win. :D

Stay safe!
I am so sorry that happened to you and Aslan. 😢. Otherwise I enjoyed the rest of this episode. Love to listen to you talk 😊
Kevin loved your vlog…. We just love watching your travels… Stay safe and warm until next time…. Pam and Patti in Wisconsin
Hello, I found your channel last week. Thanx for your vlogs!
Welcome aboard Peter.
Absolutely love this! Found you on amazon prime few months ago now I find myself buying my own narrowboat!
Cool !! Happy boating
@@Nook747 shes a working progress my boat but can't wait!
@@simulationsteve2888 well.good luck for the future 👍
Yes, happy boating Steve and enjoy the works to her. Have fun. 🙂
Excellent job as usual Kev! Thank you!
I agree about the weather. There is a segment of politics that seems to create artificial emergencies so they can be seen as being “aware & on top of it” so they can come to the rescue - whether we need saving or not. 🥴
Ah, a fan do you think, Craig? 🤔🤗😁
@@CountryHouseGent It's berthed in Fazeley, so you likely encountered Captain Kangaroo's maiden voyage.
I don't know how long I've been following you but I really enjoy your videos.
I think you started watching pretty much near the start, Rebecca. 6 years in May. Oh my. 🤗
Still at work I’m saving it for the big screen 👍 Happy Friday Kevin🍻
Lovely poem at Locke 13. Thanks Mr. Gent. Be Safe and Go Well. OUT.
Ah is that the tale of leeky lock? Had thought I'd filmed it but turned out the camera was paused when I thought it was recording. I did show it in season one though many moons ago.
And to be honest your handling of the situation with calm and cool demeanor is why i love your channel! Peace
Ooooh! Lovely.....Friday, Kevin, cuppa and a custard tart.....what a way to start the weekend. Thanks Kevin for the video, as usual a lovely trip out with you and Aslan. All the best Kevin, keep safe. Floss & Jan x
A pleasure as always Flossy and Jan. Friday night with a cuppa and a bag of Liquorice Allsorts here. 🤗
My Mum used to stamp Pontefract cakes out by hand , she ended up with tennis elbow because of it , god rest her soul.
Sorry about your boat 😊 nice video 😊thank you
Thank you Rickon
What a nice ride Kevin, thanks for sharing. Deb
Another excellent vlog Kevin, thank you👌
Glad you enjoyed it Gareth.
What beautiful bird paintings.......lovely
It brightens up the whole area.
@@CountryHouseGent sure does. Very pretty indeed
Thank you Lynette and yes, thankfully no dents in the side. Pheww.
That was a very subtle mini rant,Kevin, well said.
Thank you Drew. I'll have to check if Fusion Blues is a thing. If not, I'm copyrighting it. 😁😎
@@CountryHouseGent 🤣👍
A great video. I saw a few pals in this vid too. I took this route back in December, so it's interesting to see it through someone else's eyes. I was frozen in by the Co-Op at Glascote. It was a real life line. Sadly, the local gentry took it upon themselves to throw branches, rocks, bottles and cans onto the frozen ice.
Hi. I saw that a lot during the last freeze as well. Dumbasses don't realise or care that when it thaws, it all drops to the bottom until some poor saps propeller comes along. 🙄
Nice show always interesting thank you.
"Nice meetin' ya, too". We say that all the time here, in Ky. Shows our roots, doesn't it? (We really say, "Duddin' it". I love that!
Great episode!
