- Gooday everyone and join me as I take a stroll around the small town of Polesworth, a place I visited in Season One, but of which I remember very little.
Later, Aslan & I head for Atherstone, where I intend to moor up, take a quick look around and search for a favourite Indian takeaway, from Season One.
Getting there will take a little longer however, as I find myself caught up in the canal equivalent of slow moving traffic, on the M25.

Watching from the middle of the desert near Basra in southern Iraq! It’s a saviour every Friday….thanks Kevin!
Wow Nigel, that's the first I've heard of TBN being watched in a desert. :) Hope you enjoy and cheers,
I always enjoy your episodes…it’s a start of the weekend treat! Flying home on Tuesday so I’m sorry but next Fridays viewing will just be from boring Berkshire 😅
Yes I imagine the warmth of a sunny desert, will be a stark contrast to what us no doubt a very windy Berkshire (currently).
Nigel 20 years ago this week I was also in the desert near Basra in Umm Qasr
the port.
@@CountryHouseGent I thought for one moment he was in the middle of a sherry trifle
Here's your second desert viewer: watching from the high Apache Plains of the Chihuahua Desert, Texas
Absolutely loved your comment and reaction, to the dilemma of chopping wood for the fire...pure comedy genius 😂 👍
One more reason that make Fridays so good.👍🏼
Awesome, cheers. Hope you enjoy.
@@CountryHouseGent And to you as well.. Always have enjoyed, many many times over. All the best to you.
Thanks for the lovely rest break - hope this’ll cover a latte!
Oh my, thank you so much. Yes, a few lattes it is then. 🙂
It must be frustrating but Rick was a good man who was out in all weathers rain or shine making sure that us liveaboards especially cc’ers always had what they needed. Going slow for a couple of miles is a very small price to pay. He had certain places to be at certain times. Much missed. Top bloke RIP mr Cooper.
Nice one Kevin, bloody rain can be a nightmare sometimes, Stay safe buddy 👍
That must have been his last run before he passed away RIP Rick, top bloke
@@bobnewey3066 must’ve have been very close. A true character of the Cov canal.
That's sad.
50 Thousand Subscribers ... Oh My Goodness Gosh ... amazing work, Kevin!
Thank you Allan. Yes, not sure how that happened. 😳😁
I am really enjoying your videos. Personally, I am glad that you pursued a life on the canals instead of a motorcycle.
That's Rick Cooper on fuel boat Auriga. Sadly that was his last run. He had a heart attack whilst passing Charity dock. Very sad but at least he went enjoying what he loved most.
R.i.p
Rest in peace Rick.
RIP Indeed !
Saw Rick that day, dropping our coal supply off… prior, I was collecting from Rick at Alvocte. Rick had a fall and was recovering from a shoulder injury. I insisted that I manhandle the coal. I would have loved a week on a working boat. If nothing more than to say I had done it.
O so sorry Rick you tack care
Fun. I remember that curry shop; and that huge plate of food five years ago. The rooster’s still there!! Or a rooster. Fun to watch. Thank you!
I really like the views of the countryside there.
Starting off my weekend ( friday ) with a cup of coffee and country house gent song, " wishing for some late 70's power cords... lol then the drums.. lol lol cheers from seattle cbr929guy
Slow and steady wins the day Kevin
Patience is a virtue Kevin... ROFL... wished I had some of yours... Cheers from Tennessee, USA
Another great video , thank you Kevin....stay safe....cheers!!
THANKS FOR MAKING MORE VIDEOS!!!!!
Dramatic cliffhanger ❤
Great episode Kevin. So sorry about Rick. You really never know.
Kevin battles the drizzle in heroic fashion...
It's Friday, it's 5 o'clock and it's CRACKERJACK!!!!! Well maybe not but it is our weekly, prime time tv, 30 minutes of Kevin and Aslan. Settle in, get comfy, then I get the giggles
"Benny hill" music rattles through my head as you double-time it down to open the lock HA HA!! Cheers Kevin, we thoroughly enjoyed that installment although we were concerned at the end when you seemed abit "wobbly" HOPE YOUR WELL AND HAVE RECOVERED. Glad you enjoyed your RUBY.... we just had jacket spud mmmmm! Pretty much every week, totally unrehearsed and unexpected we always say at the end of your video..... OH NO, ITS THE END...... GOTA WAIT ANOTHER WEEK FOR OUR FIX... thanks Kevin. You keep safe, hope the sun shines for you and on you while on your travels. All the best for now, Flossy and Jan x
Ah how I remember Crackerjack, Flossy, with Michael Aspel. What I would've given for a Crackerjack pen.
Got yourself stuck in a DRS train!! I find your story very relaxing and like seeing you pilot everywhere.
Thank you, Kevin! We really enjoyed the ride!
Great to hear that Crystal, thank you.
Good episode!
As soon as one of your videos is done I immediately want another 😉. Those previews have me anxious though!
Your vids are always a great start to the weekend, thank you! Happy cruising!
Sitting here with my afternoon cup of coffee, nice and hot. Rainy, cold day in Southeastern Ohio, watching the Friday Kevin and Aslan journey. Lovely.... Thanks and cheers!
Noticed in Grantchester that one of their favorite walking trails follows what looks like an abandoned canal. I call this the, "CHG Effect".
That's a new series on me, Robert.
@@CountryHouseGent wonderful British series starring Robson Green, James Norton.
love your guitar rap intro..
Thank you,
@@CountryHouseGent Its cool and it makes me laugh..I totally get it...
Cheers mate
Good for helping well done
I love narrowboat videos and this one is no exception. You keep it real with just enough commentary. The view into backyards and businesses along the canals is very interesting. Dicing it with that fuel boat was great! I like the back story and history of the places you pass too.
I am unable to travel so I really appreciate Kevin and Aslan taking us along for their Adventures
Hi kevin, hope you have had a good week? A brilliant vlog! Watching you and aslan on a town we work in and know all to well and seeing rick on the fuel boat one last time, emotional and priceless, thanks kevin and wishing you well 👍
A real pleasure, thank you. A little talk and tribute in the next episode. ☺️
Noticed that there was no Graffiti under that low bridge (How Nice)
Yes ! All is right with the world. Kevin and Aslan have posted another video.
Tute sweert ..Love it ! 😂
I really enjoy your videos. They are a relaxing way to end my day. I love seeing the English countryside and all the history, I mean seriously those homes are amazing. But look a little haunted to me. Im all the way across the pond Nebraska. We don’t have canals we have cows lol
Thanks Kevin, another captivating gentle cruise along the canals! and I still love that thump chug sound from Aslan's engine 😁😁 looking forward to your next instalment!
I find watching your videos to be informative and relaxing at the same time. Thank you.
I have to comment once more on your poised and patient attitude, especially when confronted by complications or hinderances; you seem consistently to face things unrattled, responding to circumstances positively and with a ready wit (even if at times a bit sardonic)...
Watching from Vancouver, Canada.
Greetings from South Vietnam just took my morning blood pressure test and I'm glad to report it was the lowest reading this week. My mouth was watering in the butcher's shop, I'd have walked out with a black pudding and a pie or three, plus some well-hung beef. Then went the extra mile and showed us the Ruby Murrey. Well done great episode and I'm flying to UK next week for those pies. Stay safe and dry.
Good day Kevin ! Just love hearing that County Gent song makes me happy..Was hoping for a cooking show there at the end...Hope your feelin ok..Have a great weekend...
Before the music came up at the beginning, I was thinking, “These vids in winter are a whole different vibe” and you came on and said the same thing. Made me smile. A great exercise in patience mastered, well done. It was a nice change to see you in shadow during filming the countryside; still going to get that shot! Thanks for cheering up a loyal viewer with covid.
Yes shooting in the winter is often a struggle. Low sun for most of the day, seemingly always directly ahead and the light changing every 10 seconds. Good job I enjoy a challenge. Cheers,
Awww a gent has always Kevin well done good vlog tc the oldies 🤗👋👍
The scenes of Polesworth Abbey and the town…PRICELESS!
Aah the butchers. It's like a sweet shop for men.
UK architecture continues to be charming and characterful. I remain amazed at the well kept locks. Continued thanks for sharing this lovely travels. 🤗
Good video! Nice warm boat, good food, a good ending to a great cruise! Thank you from Kansas!
Whenever I get stuck in traffic I pull over and go scuba diving. It helps that I live in Hawaii. Sometimes it's just better to pull over and let everyone else go.
Wow that sure is an incredible way to beat the traffic jam blues Mark. You're right, when I was driving I'd often find that after a 5 minute stop, the traffic had completely changed. Like stepping out of time for a short while.
Great episode - love the little documents of the pit stops. Totally want a Korma now.
Always good to hear you've enjoyed watching. Ooh, now I want a Korma as well, with extra coconut. 🙂
Watching from New Zealand...loving it
I love a lamb Dansak Kev.
Nice bit of spice and chick peas.
😁🙏🧡
Namaste
My Saturday routine now is get the shopping done early. Slice of toast with best butter on, freshly made coffee (with my aeropress) and settle down to watch your latest episode. Thanks Kevin it’s always a pleasure.
Excellent job as usual Kev! Thanks! Going to be in London on Friday and Liverpool/Manchester on Thursday. Super excited! First time!
Have a fab time Anthony. Walked around part of Liverpool, it's a huge place, pack some good walking shoes. Only ever been to London twice, drove both times. 🙂
@@CountryHouseGent thank you sir! Very excited!
Boom, greetings from the isle of man 👍👍
Gooday Ian. How's the wind over there? Getting blown about a bit at the moment.
@@CountryHouseGent bit windy on the chimney stack i was on today but not too bad. TT this year?
Thanks for sharing!
Oh my word, I do hope you are ok Kevin, take care and stay safe 🌸🌸
Thank you Laura. All is well here. 🙂
Simply the best..
Ah that's brilliant, David. Great to hear that. Cheers,
I'm so amazed how green things are there in January! Here in West Texas everything is just now turning green- it was brown & dead in January. Those are certainly some narrow locks, and with that wind I'm sure it was much more difficult. Well done!
Love your videos. Hope to watch for years. Thank you!!! I’m a big Rush Fan too👍
A wonderful way to wine down after a long day at work. Always a joy to watch. Thank you
Another top video Kevin!👍
Thank you Ben.
Me & the Mrs absolutely love your video's Kevin, been a big fan for years now 👍
Reading Rikki's comment below about the steady thump of Aslan's engines and the calming effect on conditions of the heart I can confirm its true ..... Blood pressure before a life threatening 177/ 103 by the end a more reassuring 138/ 86........ Kevin and Aslan should be available on the NHS ... Thanks again Kevin
😂
Wow that's a rather high reading. Hope you're medicated for it, Alex, if that's not too personal. My ex was on 3 pills for hypertension (not from being married to me I might add).
@@CountryHouseGent 😅
@@CountryHouseGent did an NHS check up / MOT and now medicated .... Thanks for you concern cheers
Just another beautifully active day on the canal!! Thank you for my diversion. 😅
Just the speed I needed today..👍
Thanks Kevin! Enjoyable as ever. Often the food, curry can lift our spirits that we forget about inclement weather for a while and it will soon be spring. Cheers and best wishes mate! 😅
By Wednesday I'm always looking forward to Friday's video. It gives my family and I together time where we started watching the episodes together. Haven’t finished the video yet but wanted to say thanks again for the entertainment and sharing your interesting life with us!
Watching you caught behind that boat, then almost running aground and caught in those side winds was beginning to stress me out on your behalf, Kevin, but phew. Battled through and expertly so, even helping the fuel boat in the process, what a gent. Another fab Ep, with its usual high standards of storytelling & camera work. Perfection is beginning to be a habit, mate. Nicely done as per usual. Thank you. Loving these new eps, as much as I’ve loved all the eps prior to them. Much appreciated.
Great to hear that Thom, thank you. It's a continual process of practicing and perfecting 'the recipe'. 🙂
@@CountryHouseGent can you help me how did you start your little business with the t shirts mugs sweatshirts I want to do that thank you Tracey 🛳️🛳️🛳️🛳️🛳️🐈🐈💬🛳️🛳️🛳️🛳️🛳️
I swear my heartbeat changes in line with Aslan beat as you do another journey. As usual a visual delight and much interest as you work through your adventures. I am grumpy though……can’t eat curry anymore.
What, no curry, Rikki?? Now that would make me grumpy as well.
Thank you 😊
Dude was like "Go ahead"
Then as you went dude was like jk
Love your blogs and videos. People that are narrow minded need to keep their mouths closed. Couple of years ago in my seventies took off by myself and drove the Northern part of the USA to Washington state by myself. I had worked for AAA . My father loved to travel and so didI. Everybody thought I was crazy but loved every minute of it. Dream came true. Do not give up your dreams. You are impressive in you dreams.
You encourage me, Barbara. I plan on doing that trip from Minnesota, West to the Coast. My Mom drove her 24 ft. RV BY HERSELF from Minnesota to Sun City, AZ when she was 84 (and a half) years old. Loved the "adventure" and had many stops. (Excuse me for this on your site, Kevin.) I'd like to know if anyone like us are solo on narrowboats!
Looking forward to having a cupa in my new thrill seekers mug! Hope you are well.
i needed a little duck footage right about now... thanks Kevin!
Thanks Johnny. I always try to slide in a little duck action. 😳🤗
You helped a fellow boater when he needed help...Your a good man....
😂 I'm grounded you said. The codger in the supply barge could not give a #### as he dawdled past you.
Loved this! Thanks, Kevin!
Appreciated Barb, as always. Cheers, 🤗
I go shopping in that coop! I love Atherstone x
Love the elongated stare Kevin.......😆.......And the random pictures of , well, Random things !!
And like a trooper, you stood there telling us you were soaked through and all the while I was waiting for it, yes there it is: your mention of the inevitable and much needed cuppa 😀 Great video!
We moored there last summer for those ultra hot days. The butchers had air con and he told us he was charging 50p a minute for people to stand inside lol. Its a lovely little place and very friendly :)
Agreed Andrew, had a good laugh and a joke when I was in there. 🙂
I’m with you about how funny our selective memory is. I can remember when I was 3 years old I’d wake up every morning and my Mothers radio would being on with a song “Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream”. … But I can’t remember where I left my car keys.
Loved this one!❤ England’s weather reminds me a lot of Seattle. I love the constant drizzle. Thanks for the wonderful cruise!
When i was in Seattle, we called it the "Mizzles", mist and drizzle! Woodenville's main weather!
@@craigpierce7996that’s exactly where I live! Mizzles it is! ❤
Kevin, it has been some time since I watched your channel. But, I will tell you this, it so refreshing watching you, the places you visit and the way you put it/edit all together! Thank you, again man, for taking us with you on these trips! God bless you! And, keep it coming!
Well seems we are doing geograhy today. Hello from Anchorage, Alaska.
Gooday to you. My entire knowledge of Alaska comes from the Alistair McLean novel "Athabasca" and it's tar sands. Yes, geography has never been my strong suit. 🤭
Kevin I have to say; those trains in England fly. I loved the shots of the locks. I wished I was there the whole time 😢thanks for the videos and cheers! Have a wonder day and keep dry. 🌧️ ha!
My pleasure, thank you. People do complain about our trains but really, they aren't that bad and yes, they do fly along.
@@CountryHouseGent what do they say ( what the f%#k was that ) lol!
We need more cooking videos...Canal Cuisine!
Hmmmm!I was just thinking of going for walk because it was 4C , quite balmy outside. Suppose to snow again this weekend. We still have 3 feet of snow on the ground . The dog mushers will be happy
Kevin come thank you for another interesting vlog. I had watch delivered, but I got mine with no spice at all on it. Can’t handle the hot stuff any longer. Tasted OK but not nearly as good as it would’ve been if I had eaten it in the café. However, I had no desire to get out in the misty cool weather. I was on an era boat that I had to keep going until I could find somewhere to Moore, thank goodness. I’m glad you were able to stop when you needed to, I’m glad you were able to find your favorite dish in Atherstone. See you next time!
Thanks for another good one, Kevin. Looking forward to next week's episode:)
I think that’s Malcom’s dry dock too, I thought I might see some boats I recognised but wasn’t expecting this in my second video. 👍🏻 bitter sweet seeing Rick 😢❤
I find out about his sudden passing in the next video and talk about it.
@@CountryHouseGent I will be sure to watch that one. Thank you. ❤️ 🙏🏻
If that bridge was any lower you would have had to do a Limbo dance to get under it🤣🤣
Yes there's been several occasions where I thought a chimney or two was going to be ripped off.
Loved that medieval building at the beginning with the room over the road. The history around it must be fascinating.
It’s Friday and time for a new episode of CHG and this episode didn’t disappoint! I enjoyed the walk about as I’m always curious about the little villages you visit. That old building was interesting just too bad it was locked. And the Indian food looks delicious. I’m in the US too and just like someone else commented it’s slim pickings here for Indian cuisine but there’s plenty of TexMex. I’m really looking forward to the next episode. Thanks again
Now hunting for Vindaloo!
@@workoutpixie I am in Texas and no lack of Indian food here, of course there is Mexican as well. Can't take too much heat!
@@gnuckolls2310 I went looking yesterday and indeed you’re right! I just wasn’t looking in the right place. I’m not a big fan of Mexican Thx
Seeing places I dont know actually 3xists is part of the reason why I would love to live on the canals, love your videos Kevin.
My son lives in Polesworth. Pretty little place x
When I went on the canals I HATED the wind. I found "Imodium" very helpful 🤗🤗🤗🤗
I so enjoy your company! À propos of nothing you said but something you did (the locks), youtubers often refer to the windlass key as "the windlass". No, the windlass is the hoist apparatus to operate the sluices, or on a ship, to drop the anchor. The angle-iron you hook into your belt to operate the sluices is the key, not the windlass. Sorry for my offtopic rant 🥴🥴🥴
Happy weekend Kevin 👍
You too, cheers,
The trouble with curry is you have to dilute the "hotness" with lots of Lager. I suppose hence the hangover 😎😎😎😎
