The album version of this song is one of my all time fave songs. Never heard this version before. Thanks for this!
This is the best version of this song
You've never heard the alternative version of your all time favourite songs?
@@mrsusan893 not this song. Never bothered to look it up. You can have fave songs without listening to every version, you know
I love the original version but when I heard/saw this live in concert I nearly fell over. This version is my favorite song of all time. Followed by Emotion Sickness by silverchair. ruclips.net/video/IZSFaFV86eE/видео.html
That ending.... Kicks me right in the feels every time. This album is amazeballs. Original song is on ÆNEMA
For me, one of Tool's main characteristics is that they hide all their musicality behind a flow that remains organic and coherent. You can pick it apart, but also enjoy it as a whole and just let yourself go.
Once in a lifetime band David. Early TOOL is angry and raw. You can actually hear the progression in their musicianship as they age. Bonham and Zep played around with odd time signatures but TOOL took it to another level. You'd be hard pressed to find a bad TOOL song in their entire discography. I honestly don't think that one exists. More TOOL please. Love your takes. ✌🤞
We NEED to request more for David!
This one is my favourite from entire discography...
rhythmical arrangements are so nuts.
Danny is one of the GREATEST drummers of all time! Justin coming into the band we the completion of this band being amazing!
Finally Tool has landed on this channel. You are gonna see many more of the Tool fan base here to listen to your breakdowns. The perfect band, all members lead and follow, take you on a journey each tune. Enjoy!
Pushit (Live - Salival) is in my Top 3 Tool songs after The Grudge and Lateralus
While Undertow is an exceptional album, in my opinion they evolved and got better.
Ænema is an amazing piece of work. Lateralus is their magnum opus for me. The greatest album ever made. And 10000 Days and Fear Inoculum are remarkable too.
You can be very safe in listening to any album in the repertoire. Tool don't have a single bad song. You just like some more than others.
Tool are truly special
They are transcendant.
The studio version (Aenima '96) is much different from this limited live version that they played in '98... the Tool Army needs to understand for new listeners to hear to the original first before the live version.... regardless, happy to see your reaction.
Why?
Definitely do more Tool! Love the analysis, and pretty much any Tool song is worth your time!
I’ve seen both versions of Push It,live & they are both amazing!
When you go see TOOL you’d don’t see a show, they take you on a journey. A journey that you don’t want to end. 🌀
Bro....you need to start getting into more Tool.Just listening to 1 of their albums isn't going to cut it.You won't regret it I promise!!
This is one of my favorite Tool songs...specifically this live version. I think the mood changes were quite deliberate to give that sense of someone who is intertwined with another person in a toxic relationship. The lyrics and music portray a sense of the dramatic highs and lows of that relationship. That sense of fear that you might harm yourself or your partner, "never want to see that place again". Maynard has an unbelievable ability to write lyrics that go along so well with the musical theatre presented behind him. This is what makes Tool great.
Wow! How did I miss this reaction? I'm so excited you liked the song and and much appreciative for the reaction... and a 9.2 at that! Very nice, thanks again, David. You also did Gouge Away day before yesterday that I requested from the Pixies... thanks again. And get breakdown and reaction. ✌
AMaZiNG!!!... Haven't seen/heard this performance. Great request and thanks for reviewing/posting David 👍👍👍
great reaction! my theory has always been that the music ends "unresolved" as lyrically there's no happy ending (it will end no other way)
A brilliant revision of an already brilliant song.
Awesome reaction! Can’t wait until your next Tool review.
I really enjoy your talk of time signatures. Your analysis at the end was great. And yes, all Tool songs have a bass tone like that. 👍
I adore both versions. This is one of the few songs that I think it's okay to hear this first.
I don’t understand why people would recommend the live version that is completely different from the album version. The album version is a complete masterpiece. You should do that as well to compare.
I'd argue the Salival version is better, but subjective opinion
i like the salival version more myself, but ive been listening to these guys for about 25 years now and my tastes often flip flop on any given day
I agree the original is better in my opinion... it like two completely different songs.
I like the original because it's more of a rock song. This live version - nothing literally happens for ages.
It's literally the best song I have ever heard. I have purposely never listened to the live version because I don't want anything to change about this song. It's perfect as is.
Absolutely cool review! Thanx!
Tool is their own genre
Tool only gets BETTER Each album, never a let down! :)
I'd LOVE to see Push It from the album BUT we just got Push It period, NO requests for this again please... Let's get to NEW stuff, NOT 7 different versions of the same song.... FRESH stuff! lol
This might not be the best tool reaction to say this, but oh well lol: Apparently the guitarist Adam, and Maynard both wanted to name their newest album 7, because they were using so many counts of 7 in their new songs. So there's a little tip for the Fear Inoculom album, which has Invincible on it
Rosetta Stoned - odd song from a quick listener standpoint, but I love playing this song on bass. Wings for Marie/10,000 days off this same album about maynard's mother with a lyric walk through makes me tear up everytime
The song writing on Fear Innoculum (album) is incredibly mature and from an analysis standpoint they are all phenomenal to listen to and demand multiple listens.
Schism just for having one of the greatest bass lines of all time. Super fun to play.
I could watch people with genuine interest react to Tool for days. Thanks for your time.
YES TOOL!!! Push It is one of my top fav Tool songs! This should be a good one here!
It’s time for the studio version :)
The album version of this song is one of my favorite songs ever, so I'm not usually keen on reworking things that I love. Having said that, while I don't love the Salival version, I can admit that it's a very interesting rework
I just found Tool a couple years ago don't know where I was, but I was a addict for a 1yr or 2 all good now but I missed some great stuff
I remeber seeing this Live in 2003 in slc
David you should react to the original because this song is totally different from it. Would love to see it. ✌
I'm relieved you liked this version. I heard the original first, and this is actually the only song of TOOL that I don't like. I like the OG, but this one is just weird to me, comparably. Would love to see you do the original!
Loved your analysis and reaction! The thing with Tool is they have a few 10/10s... on every friggin album. And nothing far below 9s for me, they're that consistent.
Let's just say I would be surprised if you were disappointed with more than a few songs from them. Try Lateralus (the song) next! Keep up the good work!
FEELIN' YOU Lotus!!! Lateralus is already in the que, added your name to the requesters
I was like he can't go under a 9 for this, and yip there ya go! Tool's syncopation is where it's at! Great band.
It's totally different than the original. In a sense a whole new song
Next stage i think is to hear the original
Well I think 46&2 was better to me but different tastes for different reasons great reaction David as usual
You need to Look at Fear Factory.. Anything from Demanufacture.. Zero Signal, Piss christ.. to name a few..
Burtons vocals are mindblowing back then. Raymonds drumming is so on POINT.. Do yourself a favour.. Tool is amazing. You have opened your eye.. Now give these guys a go. FEAR FACTORY.. True Pioneers they are. So ahead of their time
Love Fear Factory....I use Zero Signal as my intro video background music. Demanufacture is my favorite album from them, I also really enjoyed Digimortal and Obsolete.
ohh Fear Factory... no one ever does Fear factory. pls
@@Verifraudreports I'll need a link so I watch the correct video.
Do them both another day bro
Alokke Dutta was playing the tablas that night ...Danny’s tabla teacher
Have to do Right in Two (studio version) next!
I'll need a link so I watch the correct video

32:47 I like how you said subdivisions and Neil Peart
You caught that little nod there, eh?
@@THEDavidHeretic lollll intentionally?
@@PoliticallyAffiliated Not at first...but once I said it, the song flashed through my head and I thought to myself "nnnnnnnnnnnice"
Hi again David! Back here as promised👀😊 Still not a fan. But...👍
Pushit my favorite song, not sure which version though.
Maynard’s like fuck it I’m gonna use Gregorian vocals because no one does that
The first half especially is pretty different to the original but this version rules
Great reaction. For the record, the original song is almost exactly 10 minutes long
David... Hip Hop gig... Say's he doesn't know much about hip hop YET our Dear David has some bass rifts in his bands songs that COULD easily be sampled on a hip hop record lol.
LOVE the sound you guys have and I generally would NOT be into that flavor of metal, too on the Neu Metal side for me BUT it works... You could EASILY sample AW stuff onto a rap record and make that hip hop album better lol.. GREAT bass rifts... I am bass biased too, NOT Heretic biased lol
Jazz/Classical was where I started out... Junior high and then high school band on alto/baritone and tenor sax. Made guitar theory so much easier for transitioning.
That's where I really applied all the theory I learned as a kid, was in Jazz band.
@@THEDavidHeretic It really helped a lot, and opened up more doors musically for writing imo.
One of MJK’s other projects (A Perfect Circle) plays plenty of 3/4......
TOOL albums only get better as they go. Now you need to do the original Aenima album version to compare.
"There is so much happening" Tool in a nutshell.
THIS.
The salival version is cool. The studio version is more raw and disturbing.
It's literally dark and light. I prefer the original version though cause its darker.
Algorithms?!
Wow why request the live version wtf dude studio always first
This wasn’t the beat idea I think. It’s like watching Return of the Jedi before Star Wars
Actually this song is off their Third album, UNDERTOW is their second album.
The first one was an EP and is usually not counted as an album ;-)
David you can take a JAZZ player and put him in a symphonic band but you can't take a symphony player and but them in a Jazz Band. ✌
Absolutely agree. If you're Jazz trained, you can literally play anything.
Original is better
I agree but this one is still amazing and more hypnotic.
The original Pushit is better than Salival
The original studio version is 100x better. This is okay, but too slow and not nearly as captivating. And it sounds muddy to me.
In my opinion, Undertow is Tool's weakest album, but that's like saying there are weak ice creams....in the end, it's all ice cream
I dont agree personally I think every one of them holds their place for a particular mood. But I appreciate your opinion. I do listen to the other albums more. But when I feel like hearing more straightforward ruff rock I'll go with undertow and opiate. I like listening to undertow and helmets meantime and Betty because I found all those albums on the same day.
