Thanks to #cottonbro for perfect drummer footage:

I always feel like I'm in the minority in saying that the original studio version of Pushit is the superior version of the song. That this version is a nice variance, but I always find myself gravitating back to the original.
100%
i need to check it out. thank you for the feedback. can you elaborate as to why?
@@rosalieelliottofficial I think the tone it sets sonically from the outset is much more inline with the subject matter of the song. It's like a bees nest that slowly builds as someone throws rocks at it.
Superior is a strong word, lol
100%
One of the best drummers you will ever hear
After John Bonham of course…
Hell yes! Pushit (Salival) is in my top 3 best TOOL Songs. Which is to say, top 3 best songs ever! I get the chills and goosebumps every time I hear it.
we'll see you on the other side...
Tool meets you where you are...
Maynard's lyrics are almost like blank canvases; they are open to nearly infinite interpretation, and almost anyone can find deeply personal meaning and associations within their songs. Maynard certainly has specific meaning in mind when he writes lyrics , but he writes them in such a way that they are a "reflection" of the listener...it's just beautiful.
Love Tool! You need to check out the live drum cam video of Tool's song Pneuma with Danny Carey, Tool's drummer. He is an absolute master on the drums. It's just amazing to watch him!
What he said. No arguments after anyone watches that drum cam
Theres no love in fear! I absolutely love that line. So true!
Yes!! Me too!!
One of my all time favorite lyrics, right up there with Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here.
@@menotyou8369 I have to agree with you 100%. That's another one that's at the top of my all time favorites too. Also love Theres something kinda sad about the way that things have come to be desensitized to everything what became of subtlety. Both 2 lines people today could benefit from thinking about
Tool's drummer, Danny Carey, is arguable one of the best drummers in music history. If you like his work on this song I'd highly recommend the "drum-cam" video of Tool performing one of their newer songs "Pneuma." Watching Danny drum is just amazing... and everyone else in the band is just as amazing. Been a huge fan of theirs for a very long time!
You get no argument from me.
Only Rush fans or a fan uneducated musically would argue that at this point
fellow OGT
The Lateralus Album is a psychological journey from beginning to end.
Maynard uses “child” in his lyrics often. I think it’s a reference to his own childhood.
TOOL ARMY standing by
🤘🤘🤘
Weapon out and belly in!!!!!!
The whole Tool albums in general is in itself a therapy session
Yo, thank you so much for this! Love your reactions!
Great reaction.
Best drummer and band
The question everyone should be asking is where the hell did a random RUclips reaction streamer get a copy of Salival when no one else can find one for under $200?
One of
The best bands in the world ..buckle up
MORE TOOL!!!! YES!!!! BUT i would suggest songs like "right in two" , "wings for marie pt1 + pt 2(also known as 10,000 days), They Have Some Great Music! #LoveOverEverything
The studio version will give different vibes at first but same context throughout. Both versions are amazing! Thanks for your reaction, I hope to see Tool's full catalogue on your list someday :)
Watching someone listen to TooL for a first time is like watching someone experience a top fuel dragster for the first time. Never gets old 🤘🍻🍻🤘
thats a good analogy.
Listen to the songs in order. Each is like chapters over a six book series. There are so many layers and each album could be interpretated as one story. Becoming aware (Opiate EP) falling into depravity (Undertow) the efforts to overcome one's past (AEnima where this song is from) to sidestepping human nature through thoughts (Lateralus) ect... it's crazy cool. Keep Going. SPIRAL OUT!
Esa version es en vivo la mejor de todas👏👏👏👏
Both versions have their merit. As with any Tool it's about mindset, mood, life experience... Always what you need when you need it. This version, along with 'no quarter' always help me through
If you liked the tabla drumming on this track, you would love Right in Two. Also has great themes and wordplay for you to pick apart.
Tool is the best sound in the world today. You've barely scratched the surface. I really hope you do more and I am loving all that you've done so far. Great channel, great reactions, keep it up, and much love to you ❤✌
Thank you very much :) what Tool song do you suggest next?
@@rosalieelliottofficial Honestly, there are whole albums that were such an amazing mental journey for so many Tool fans. It’s hard to suggest just one song, but if I had to, the first one that comes to mind would be ‘The Pot’.
Since you like drums, please check out Danny Carey"s Vic Firth, Pnuema Live drum video. Danny is TOOLs drummer, literally considered one of the best in the world. The video is mind blowing how good he is! Love seeing people discover TOOL. IMO the best band on the planet
Oh if you love drumming solos then you will be in heaven when you watch pnuema drum Cam
Also the "gap" in my interpretation of it , is the opportunity to leave the situation. Just my first thought
Danny Carrey is a polyrhythm GOD
Not sure if this version was suggested specifically, but the album version is musically and vocally more aligned with the subject matter in my opinion. Both are very good however. I can only hope you continue to dive in to Tool's discography as I enjoy your introspection. I feel you'd really enjoy it also. 👍🏻
I agree. The studio version is stellar and jawdroppingly awesome. Everyone seems to like this live version more though....
thank you for the info and feedback. i'll have to check it out. i appreciate it
@@rosalieelliottofficial you should totally do a separate reaction of the studio version! It's a lot darker, it sounds as if the emotions are still very raw. This live version, on the other hand, sounds like it's taking place some time after, since it has a more distant and serene, but also more melancholic approach.
I would disagree on the subject matter/music alignment. I actually think that is the reason for the rearrangement of the song and the comments he makes about seeing the song in a new light before the Salival version. The sparse, hollow sound feels less angry/aggressive and more emotionally distraught to me. BUT i will agree the album verison is my favorite, for me because of the power of Maynards full throated mixed voice and the clean production.
Loved the discussion at the end! Tool lyrics always have a ton of stuff to dig into
hey I know you lol
Pnuema drum cam! You will love it!
Been listening to them since 1993 when it was NOT cool to listen to them. I’m so glad they are so widely revered now.
Thanks for the reaction, and a big THANKS to the patreon who asked for this, love this version and so rarely reacted to.
Maynard, like most poets, will never tell you what a song is about. He might mention what inspired it, but it's intentionally written to allow you to develop your own interpretation. So, asking for us to tell you what the song is about is guaranteed to get you 1.5K (as of this writing) interpretations, all equally valid and none more valid than your own.
I like that! That’s good songwriting right there.
And if he does its a lie lol
The best part of this, for me, is when the music picks up and he belts out the "there's no love in fear!" line. Also if you liked his vocals here you might want to check out The Grudge studio version.
been a while since someone reacted to this, this is Tool on hard mode
Tool - The Pot
It's their banger
Thanks for sharing your reaction vid, this was a fun one
I always encourage people to listen to the original album version first. That way you can see how they have completely reworked the song. But that's ok I guess 🤷♂️Go back now and listen to the original. They are both incredible in their own way.
It's 💯 about a toxic relationship. There are live videos where he says it. Don't think it's physically abusive but definitely emotional.
EDIT: Danny Carey is the octopus 🐙 Check out his Pneuma drum cam video 🤯
The long drum solo was Danny Carey Tool's drummer and a tabla player named Alike Data, who trained Danny how to play the tablas
Aloke Dutta, but yes, love the tablas on this. This is my favorite album just for this track, No quarter, You Lied, and this version of Third Eye.
Excellent breakdown. Subscribed.
Great reaction! I was hoping with your physiology background you would do this song. My take on the song for about 20 years was that it was about an abusive relationship. BUT, now the last few years I have a different view, and you touched on it a little… Personal reflection is what I believe this song is about. My reasoning: at the beginning he says, let’s go to a vulnerable place, then I’ll meet you on the other side. A lot of Tools songs is about self betterment. Another reason, this song is on the same album as the song “jimmy” (a song I hope you react to) just shortly after it. A song where he is talking to his 11 year old self about the time in his life that his childhood was lost due to the traumatic event that happened to his mother. So, I believe “Pushit” is him struggling the that person he became after this event. He is not happy with what he became after that “kill this infant here before me”…”what is this but a reflection.” I could go on with a lot more points in the lyrics but this is enough to get the wheels turning . But I believe he is battling his younger self, that is who is pushing him into the gap…the deep down places where we bury things that we don’t want to face. Please do all the songs where Maynard is dealing with his mother, I would love to see your reaction do to your background. Also check out their song “right in two” I thing you would enjoy the religious perspective of that song.
wow outstanding interpretation and elaboration!!! Thank you for sharing that. I think you may be on to something and in the context of the other song you mentioned, it makes sense. So many ways to interpret it. It's powerful. thank you also for the suggestions. I'll have to check it out as I'm able to
As a reactor Do yourself a favor. GO TO THE BEGINNING. Lots of Reactors jump around to most requested songs. Please don't. They go from angry to this over six albums. I know 1 reactor to take the journey. He's starting Fear Inoculum Album next TOOL Tuesday. I learn more about tools story from him then I did loving them the last 20 years.
If you like the drumming in this, check out the Tool Pneuma Danny Carey drum cam.
Oh awesome! It's the Salival version!
It’s about Domestic Violence/toxic relationship. You got it right.😊
OMFG,,, Started off great,, then got really really preachy at the end😅😅Love the Contento keep it up!
If you like drums then watch Tool, Pneuma live Danny cam. It will blow your mind !
wow, you really just jumped in there didn't ya. sober, to pushit salival is just epic. spiral out!
"Choke this infant here before me." Is a reference to destroying innocence and/or naivety that everyone is faced with in order to move on a grow as a person. The lines about seeing his reflection is looking deeply into oneself and maybe not being so pleased with what it is you see, but making the choice to destroy and move forward and grow. But all in all the most beautiful point of Tool lyrics in particular is what meaning the listener gets from it at the time, this is one of them many reasons that I really enjoy bands that do this. Hope you continue to enjoy your musical journey within the realm of rock and heavy metal. \m/(^_^)
Danny Carey their drummer is nicknamed the Octopus, he is one of the best Prog drummers alive. He can play many rhythms at the same time, he does a technic called Polyrhythms what are very difficult to play two at the same time. He can play with all four limbs at the same time doing a double kick drum as well as hi hat, symbols, snare and toms,
From personal experience. Coming from using LSD as a teen to escape brutal bullying you start to question which is the better reality. Sober or in my mind's eye. I chose to quit. Escaping is easy but with LSD if you stay high you never come back. I watched a guy i knew mind turn to jello. He died in a mental institution. This song I heard the push pull of do I or don't I .
Oh yes. Well said. And great interpretation!
♥ that you're diving in and unpacking the lyrics. Drummer is one of the world's best. Time for a new one! Try "Eulogy." Theres' a build and breakdowns that are more massive, muscular, and riff-driven. The first few lines set up an enigma (?)
He had a lot to say
He had a lot of nothing to say
We'll miss him
We'll miss him
While Tool doesn't have a "bad" song, I like Pushit, but I'd guess not too many fans have it in their top 5 either. Eulogy, The Pot, 46 & 2, Parabol/Parabola, Schism... are some of the more common plays.
Excellent song analysis.
At 15:00 you felt the magic it will change you forever
I liked it. It is an invitation into the mind.
The two greatest groups are Tool and Alice in Chains , about Pushit it’s true masterpiece .. ❤
Maynard the vocalist of Tool would look like you if he was a female, you even have a matching mole.
No, it's the og version. The percussion is definitely a focus point of the arrangements.
#please try Chocolate Chip Trip, also by Tool. It's on their 2019 album
Definitely a little slower and softer than the studio version. Don't worry about the arguing over what's better. They are both amazing versions of the song and have a slighty different emotional tone they elicit. Push It is just one of my favorite Tool songs anyways. Spiral out!
thank you :)
You are so sympathic.
Great reaction! I always thought the infant was the reflection he saw in the mirror (himself). I think you would love their song Lateralus, it is a whole different vibe. It's very uplifting. "...following our will and wind, we may just go where no one's been, SPIRAL OUT< KEEP GOING!
More tool!
Great video! Please check out “Pheuma’’ by Tool, especially the Danny Carey drum cam video.
I have only heard a few things from Tool. This is very unique! Thanks!
Gladly :) thank you for listening
In trying not to be one of these blowhard, biased fans touting how this band or that band is "the best band of all time" type of person; I'll simply say that if you do decide to check more of their songs out, I think you'll find that "unique" is probably an accurate way of describing Tool. Their sound has changed so much from their beginnings which is why I think so many people love them...we feel like we kinda grew up WITH them. The majority of their fanbase is in the 35-55 range (mainly basing this off of people I know and people I've seen at concerts throughout the years). Early Tool (Opiate and Undertow) was angry and aggressive; just what most teenage and early twenty-something rock fans liked, but then they released Aenima. That album shifted their sound so much. It still had some aggression but it had this undertone of maturity about it. The Lateralus album that followed was very mature, very progressive and felt like a spiritual journey; very introspective. The 10,000 Days album was less spiritual but still proggy and mature. It dealt with more real world elements and influences. Their latest album, Fear Inoculum, is proggy and very retrospective - all in my opinion, anyway. LOL!
@@nutrybe In ref to the age of the fanbase....... Having seen Tool most recently in May '22, (first time was 1994!) I can say one of the coolest things apart from the show itself (obv!) was that I encountered a number of father & son pairings in attendance...... Given the kind of band they are and the music they make there is something beautiful about them being passed between generations in this way and it gives hope that this awesome band will survive through time as indeed their music deserves too.
I like the original but Maynard’s using like really clean almost Gregorian chant type voicing is really cool and Danny’s percussion is always cool, almost sounds like he’s using a tabla
Give us more
Tool is my favorite band of all time... but I also LOOOOVE Alt-J! Both bands are great live.
I was never familiar much with Tool (tho I had heard the name), but Alt J is my jam! (well one of my jams - I got a lot as you can tell)
Hello Rosalie! In my opinion Tool is one of the greatest Bands of all time! i saw they in may in cologne I was awesome!!! I know this group since January 2022! I heard pneuma and I bought all CDs!!! I recommend you to listen / watching Pneuma with the camera of Danny Carrey. He is one of the best drummers of all time. !🤟🤟
YOU ARENT FOOLING US, MAYNARD!! TAKE OFF THE WIG AND MAKEUP!!
Wish you'd heard the original before this one. Makes this one sound even better. :)
Yea. If you hear the original and have a solid understanding of it, that allows you to sort of “get” the places they go with this version.
Great reaction and if you like drumming then you must react to Tools Pnuma drum cam.Its amazing and Danny is one of the best drummer.❤
Always saw this and the original as a yin yang sort of arrangement. The original highlights the anger in the lyrics, while this one highlight the sort of forlorn acceptance of the behavior in the lyrics.
Art Rock and psychedelic too
30 seconds in. Thumbs up... but this version is much better after becoming one with the studio version. In 10 years, you'll understand. Also, I'm drunk.
Edit: After watching the whole video, I'm subbed for more. Even the darkest tool songs are designed for self improvement. NO VIDEOS... JUST AUDIO. early tool is grungy dark and sarcastic. Evolves into pessimisticly hopeful enlightenment. Also... still drunk.
Can I make a suggestion since your a musician? Listen to the studio version of “Lover you should’ve come over” by Jeff Buckley. The lyrics alone will leave a tear in your soul.
Great channel!! One of my fave songs from my fave bands!!! Listen to Lateralus please 😀
Tool is a treasure trove in regards to human behaviour/psychology imo. Lot's of references to Carl Jung....Would love to see you dive in
Danny Carey is one of my favorite drummers...
Puts me in mind of tuatha dae just a little bit. If you don't know them check them out. Appalachian rock. The hum and the shiver is popular
I'm sure others have mentioned that is virtually no professional shot live footage of Tool, the quality can be very lacking. The song videos are crazy good artistically but usually have nothing to do with the songs lyrics. The only true first listen of a Tool song should be the studio version, they deserve it.
Could "choke this infant here before me" mean, suffocate that naive part of us or ourselves that enters into relationships but that innocent part soon dies at the hands of our own undoing as the relationship begins to fall apart? Maynard uses powerful, very graphic, and often very shocking metaphors or imagery to communicate something very profound and very deep.
That jam session @ 14:00 always gets me in the feels
PNUEMA DRUM CAM.
"Infant" I think may mean the infancy of their relationship? Maybe?
Oh ffs with the "Disturbed's Sound of Silence", its NOT Disturbed's song. They did a great cover, but its Simon & Garfunkel's song.
Interesting fact: all the percussions are done by one person:)
Colby hit you with the Live version first? Man, your gonna miss out on the difference between the Album version
Glad you stuck it out as ya wasn't feeling well . Check out lateralus , parabol and parabola ( both must be heard together ) great reaction .
You gotta react to Danny Carey Drum cam video of Tool song Pneuma live!!! By Vic Firth you’ll be amazed by all the polyrhythms!!!
There's a lot to unpack with Tool. A whole lot xD Hope you'll revisit at some point : )
Forgot about alt. J (adding to playlist) The pace at which tool builds is the biggest stumbling block. (For some) It may develop into the greatest asset?
Please, please, please do a reaction to Vicarious by Tool. You will not be disappointed. The song structure is based on the fibonacci sequence. Mind blowing. You don't just listen to Tool, you experience it.
You mean lateralus?
Speaking of drumming, has anyone told her about Pneuma (drum cam)?
You definitely have to check out Danny Carey drum so low pneuma it is awesome!
The original push it is more about anger and the acknowledgment of the toxicity of not letting go. Like a flare up. This version is more about sorrow and acceptance and understanding that if this continues, whatever's being held on to or is making life toxic, he or she is doomed.
In layman's terms the original pushit is about the fight and struggle and this version is the "let's talk about what just happened. This can't continue."
so glad you reacted to the salival version, so much better imo
Check out schism
Start from the Opiate album. Go in order of the discography. Welcome to the spiral . 🌀
Enjoy the ride. 🤘🔥
Sorry, I get really excited when I find someone about to be initiated into the TOOL Army. If leaving multiple comments is bad edict, let me know. But I want to get your attention. TOOL'S music isn't like music. I've honestly stopped typing for like 15 min trying to figure out how to say how much variety of music I've heard with out dropping names for paragraphs. But TOOL is really something more. I wish I could twist your arm, because I'm not pulling you leg. I'll just subscribe and see where you go. I wish for you to listen to Sweat, the first song in the TOOL discography. OR the most popular TOOL reactions are The Pot and Pnuema drum cam. I can't recommend more than that because listening to any other would contains spoilers. There is an evolution from album to album. I know ppl want you to hear next : 46 and 2, Schism, Right in Two, vicarious, invincible, H, the Grudge, (I've seen those last two songs break men into tears) or Lateralus the spiritually mind blowing masterpiece. I mean, the song and the album won awards! Okay I'll stop. Nice to meat you.
Spiral Out!
No need to say sorry. Comment as much as you like. I’m more concerned with quality of comments than quantity. :) thank you for sharing your thoughts. And for the suggestions. Sounds like there’s quite a few special pieces (as in masterpieces) I need to be listening to.
I want you to do a reaction on Selena Gomez and Black Pink's song in Summer (Ice Cream) please🫶🙂
