    Hi all, Happy Sunday 😊. The discount code for all Little Windows products is Daniel15 and that's 15% off everything. Fran is also looking into a cheaper shipping option for those outside the US but it will only be for the films, I will update you all once it is set up 😁🥰x

    I'm just a dabbler in the resin art world, but I'm very proud of three faux opals I did a week ago. First I dusted the mold with a muted metallic mica powder - a silvery white with a slight blue interference. Then I added a layer of UV resin, just filling the curve of the mold. After that was cured I cut a piece of crinkled cellophane (just the regular cellophane you can buy in the gift section of any store) to just slightly smaller than the mold, laid that on top of the cured resin, then topped off the mold with more UV resin, gently pressing the cellophane with a toothpick to work out any possible bubbles and make sure the resin got into any gaps. Before curing it I sprinkled a bit more of the mica powder on top and swirled it in with the toothpick. One final cure and I had beautiful faux opals in 10 minutes.

    I told my husband mid way through the video, that i bet fheyd look even more realistic if you sank some of the film deeper into the resin. And then you mentioned it at the end! Lol glad to know you heard me. 😁 Also consider adding just a touch of white to your resin first, you might be able to achieve that milky look and keep them shiny!
    Looking forward to more experiments!!! ❤❤❤

    Gorgeous! I like them both ways, but the matte ones are more opalish. It might be cool to try this with a very thin layer of milky white resin first, then cure, then fill with clear and finish as before. That SHOULD provide a layer for the colors to bounce off of, without needing to sand down to matte. Shiny opal!

    Those are beautiful. Personally, I do prefer a high gloss shine. I think the trick would be in layering the films within the resin, as opposed to having just one layer.
    One of the channels I'm subscribed to is Black Opal Direct, where he cuts and polishes actual opals. The colours are in bands throughout the stone, and are often accentuated by a darker base of the host stone. (... much like the white or black backing you use for your cabs) Gem quality opals contain multiple coloured layers, and when polished, show colour whichever way you look at them. If you could replicate that kind of effect with resin and dichromish film, you'd have an absolute winner!
    Honestly, if I didn't have so much going on right now, I'd give it a go myself.
    I don't often comment, but I always enjoy watching, and being inspired by your content, Daniel. Thank you!! 👍🙂
    Cheers!

    Was just coming here to say that the camera doesn't show anything near what it should look like... One of these days we will figure this aspect out and will be golden. I love the white background matte pieces, but the ones with the black background, not sure if I like them matte. Again preference and camera make the difference. I see a purchase in the near future from Little Windows, as I love their dicro-ish products and going there now to do just that, sending them to my mom's as we are moving closer to her in a couple weeks (2 weeks away) and she's holding onto my purchases for when we get settled. Going to have so much fun with all the new molds and goodies. Thank you so much for posting these videos, am getting more and more ideas that I will be incorporating in projects in the future! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🖤

  • @Bemadabava
    @Bemadabava 3 месяца назад +1

    I like it, and it is so close. Might I suggest trying these two options as well. What if you put a slightly thin layer of white on before sanding on the front that is. Then sand to a Matt finish. Second maybe a real thin layer of white on after sanding? Now you have a brilliant technique getting the flashing inside. Only thing that makes me say not quite there is I can still see the film and to me that loses the real opal illusion. Again I love your projects, and these suggestions may not even work. But they might also give it that final illusion. I will be trying it too but you have gotten so much closer than I have!

    I was drawn to this video because I had wondered if you could emulate black opals. I really like both of the first two. The white opal effect is very good. The black opal effect is beautiful, but, at least for me, I would want to find a way for it to look like a polished gem. I’m not sure if that would be a possibility.
    Can you put this films between two pieces of cardboard/storyboard, cover the top piece of cardboard with a dishcloth and iron them to fuse them?

    Gorgeous effects. I mimiced an opal myself but in a different way. 💜
