- #223. This RESIN Experiment BLEW ME AWAY!
In todays Resin Art video I try to see if I can melt my own bismuth crystals to use in an epic piece of resin Art jewelry!
I ran into a few problems on the way with this resin art project and almost had to walk away from it! Although It does not seem that way in the video, lots of tantrums were had 😂.
I wouldn't recommend trying to melt bismuth at home unless you are confident in doing so and well protected! There are plenty of great videos to watch on RUclips on how to do this.
All in all, I'm so happy I didn't give up on this Resin Art project! It came out absolutely incredible!

Gawjusssssssss Daniel - Reminds me of The Labrynth film :)
Thanks so much Claire 🥰 Yes, Sarah just said this in her reply comment, I knew it reminded me of something but I couldn't think what, and its one of my favourite films too 😂
Now imagine doing it in a sphere like you did the other week and rolling it round your hands like Jared! Iconic moment we NEED on video!
@@daniel..cooper ahhhhh no way ha ha I didnt see that it fully does :)
@@sarahbird9267 If I knew it would bring David Bowie to my yard I would haaaaa those tights - yes please haaaaaaaaaa

You are a wizard! I showed this to my husband. He's an engineer & knows a lot about chemistry. He came over to see if I was ok because of the noise I made when I I saw this pendant. 😂 I told him how you took the Bismuth and melted to make the crystals. He was impressed with the end result of your pendant. Got an "oh wow" from him. High praise from him Daniel! 💗💗
Awesome 😊 Thank you both so much ❤️
Hey Daniel. My metallurgist husband says the iridescent sheen is an optical thing, not due to oxides. He says light hits the surface molecules and reflects different wavelengths. When you put the UV resin on top you changed the optical properties, making light hit it differently and that's why the sheen disappeared. I have made faux kyanite crystals and used iridescent pigments to achieve the same effect on their surface, Those color shifting chameleon powders work great! You can use more than one color and apply them randomly over the surface, similar to how you made those faux moonstones. A magenta-blue shift would look lovely!
Awesome, thank you 😊 May experiment more soon 🥰
I wondered that as flame painting copper has the same problem, stunning colours until you seal it and unsealed it’ll just turn green. Such a shame to lose the beautiful colours like blues and pinks from the heat.
The structure still looks amazing on your piece Daniel 👏🏼
That's what I was thinking. Could always brush with just a hint of mica powders to be subtle would look pretty
Why does the bismuth show the colors after you melt it down? Why do the colors not show on the block of it Before you you melt it?
I love how often your videos not only show us your amazing artistic talent, but we also get a little bit of a science lesson!!! 🤓
Thank you 😊 Gotta love a bit of science 🥰🥰🥰
All those pieces would be sensational with some good quality macro photography 😃
Bismuth is the coolest element ever, and you made it into something extra special. Bismuth crystals have always reminded me of some ancient pyramid structures, and the pendant looks like a miniature world. I think you made the right choice with how you hung it. I was gonna suggest grinding a shallow groove around the sphere and add a metal band to it, but this is much less invasive and leaves the beauty of the crystals free to be admired.
Thanks Leena 😊 I did think about wire wrapping it but at that stage, I was so tired 😂🤣
@@daniel..cooper You could pre-make the wire loop that goes around the side seam and put it in place before you put the clear dome on top. It would be held in place by the cured resin.
Wow! That’s incredible! It looks like you’ve encapsulated a more colorful version of Machu Picchu. Absolutely stunning Daniel❤
Thank you so much! 🥰
Bismuth is so much fun, very unpredictable with the shapes, sizes, & colors you can end up with! Wish I'd known about it when I was younger, would have been a great school science project.
I have no words . . . I’m speechless with awe.
I love this video, showing first hand your mind at work. How you work out problems and difficulties. And the end result is just amazing. Fantastic video.
An Aztec temple incapsulated. Beautiful. ❤
Fantastic, the centre looks like a room scene out of Harry Potter. Stunning 😍
Thanks Julie 😊 Yes, I see that now you mention it 🥰
Never give up, never surrender!!
So fun seeing your face on your videos now, Daniel, makes me feel like I'm in a fun creative class!
Thank you 😊🥰
Daniel, this piece is just incredible! I love it! Was it worth the painful struggle? You betcha! I agree with you, it's 100% worth it! I just can't wait to see what mischief you get up to next!
Thanks Pauline 😊 I'm already working on some other experiments now 🥰
All I can say is I LOVE the way your brain works! Not only are you teaching us but you continually entertain as well. I love this experiment so much! Thanks Daniel..❤️
Thanks so much Liz 🙏 🫂
All I can say is WOW THAT'S AWESOMELY BEAUTIFUL. 😁
Three simple steps. What could go wrong? 🤷♂️ I liked the first heart that lost its color. Still a very cool piece. Your new uv light has a lovely window to record through. I’m glad the outcome was worth the struggle. You rock!
Thanks so much Mike, yep, that window is handy! 😂
I didn't know that bismuth would melt and crystalize like that so easily. It all looks so smashing. Thank you for the enlightenment.
Thank you 😊
Daniel, when it comes to you nothing should surprize me, cause I know there is no stopping you. This pendant is so beautiful. Can't wait to see what you will create next.🤩🤗💞💙
Wow, thank you 🥰
That turned out amazing! It looks like an ancient village. 😍
Thanks Lisa 😊 Yes, reminded me of Puma Punku 🥰
Thanks Daniel for taking us on your journey. A really unique and impactful result.
WHAT!!! This is the best reveal ever! Absolutely beautiful!!! Amazing. Absolutely amazing! As I said before, you are the Rock Star of resin art!
Wow, thank you! 🥰
WOW this looks so cool. The look is like it’s hundreds of years old like you found it on a dig
Heat it, melt it, and poke it. I'm sold. 😂
Looks like a little ancient city in there. So cool!
Loving you talk to the camera. You’re a natural. Beautiful pieces, just stunning
Thank you so much! 🥰
One of the finest pieces of jewellery I’ve ever seen😊
Thank you 😊
OMG 😮😮😮😮 THE MOST AMAZING THING I BELIEVE I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! You took my breath away when you flipped it over!!! SO GORGEOUS AGAIN YOUR TALENT IS BEYOND WORDS 👏 BRAVO ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks Tammy 😊
I thought the first piece still looks amazing! The second is awesome! Reminds you of one of those crazy stair structures that never ends
Gorgeous piece Daniel, wow! I'm so glad you didn't give up!
From the thumbnail, that's exactly what I was going to comment! So it definitely looks right!! Beautiful brilliantly done!!
😊 thank you

That is absolutely incredible! 🤩 I come back to your channel daily to watch and re-watch your videos. I have been wanting to get into resin art for a while now, haven't taken the plunge yet. Just keep adding to my Amazon cart, lol. Your videos give me a lot of inspiration, and I can't wait to try some experimenting of my own!
Thanks so much 🙏
It is so fun. Amazing what you can make with very little practice. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Daniel I could feel your pain during the developmental stages but WOW!!!! Soooo worth it!!! Its absolutely incredible. 🎉 It looks as though its a precious ancient artifact, like something out of Indiana Jones movie. *Round of applause* and your so right, never give up. 😊😊
Wow! That's gorgeous! Love how you said, don't give up. So true when creating art with any medium.
Thanks Paula 😊 Yes, as hard as it can be, we have to keep trying 🥰
heat it melt it poke it ! hilarious. such a mad professor thing to say .
Wow Daniel!!! A great and important job, but wow !! The result is not fantastic! It's fabulous! Superm! I'm speechless!!!

It's a headbanger of a heavy metal piece! 🤘😅
WOW! Awesome! What amazing stuff! I really really love it!❤Gotta say Daniel your patience has paid off!👍☺️
Thanks so much Sue 🙏
Bismuth is amazing in shape and colors. You have brought it to light like crazy in your experiments. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Thanks Bob 😊
Oh, this is just the *_coolest thing ever,_* Dan! The crystals are SO beautiful! I really love that 2nd crystal you showed: the stair-steppy, ancient temple-looking, architectural structure... thingie...chunk...whatever it is!
You? Impatient? NEVER! 😅
*OHHH, WOWWWW! STUNNING! GORGEOUS! AMAZING!* 😲😍❤ THAT was worth every bit of struggle and worry, Dan! Every bit! 😊👍💕
WOW. can’t come up with an adequate word for this, so, WOW!!!
Thank you 😊
reminds me of a Mayan or Aztec archaeological site. Gorgeous
Coooooll. It looks like looking down on an abandoned town. ❤
You are just so AWESOME Daniel! What you come up with is just mind blowing and I love them all. Especially this one!! 😘😘
Thanks so much 🙏
Brilliant Daniel!! I see an ancient temple in that pendant!! Absolutely beautiful! Good job carrying on and seeing it through.. I sure am glad that it didn't go out the door.. 😉 💕 💕 💕
Thanks so much Cindy 🥰 🫂
WOW!!! Incredible!!
As Bruce Almighty would say
B E A UTIFUL!!
It looks like some kind of future architectural ruin! Super cool!
Oh my! Your patience paid off! Totally stunning!❤❤❤❤
Thanks Rita 😊
OMG Daniel, this is totally mind blowing. Thank you for sharing.
Fabulous! I’ve never even heard of bismuth!
Awesome! Kinda looks like a modern space city. 😊
WOW! I just praise your patience & hope you make another real soon!
This was by far, the most interesting and fun video project to date. Hope to see more like this with bismuth. 😊
Thank you 😊
What a wonderful, creative and perfect artwork, sir Daniel😍💜.It looks like an old lost civilization that has just been explored 😍💖
Thank you so much 😀
The egg shaped one, last one, is nice the way it picks up color from the room around it. Those are interesting crystals.
Thank you 😊
Wow! Yes worth it. STUNNING 😮🤩👏🏽
Oh my gosh that’s all I can say!! It’s magnificent!
You are pretty good at poking things... that's good to know!
That turned out lovely :)
Incredible, astonishing, amazing,🤩 magnificent, superb, Ok there are no words ❤!
Thank you so much 😀
Sometimes you can put a holographic nail polish ( ordinary not gel) on and it looks fantastic. Then you topmost it and loose all the holo -ness. All those fantastic colours disappear. This reminded me of that. There are a few different top coats and not all keep that beautiful holo look. Maybe it's the same with resins. I'm sure it must have something to do with light refraction but that's as far as my knowledge goes.
Wow!! This reminds me of the inside of an Aztec cave!! Or inside of the pyramid. Just beautiful!!
Thank you 😊
Thank you sir you taught me how to make 3D pendant with UV resin. I will be trying the technique out for my art. Great video as well.
Honestly, Dan, I had no idea of what to expect from this, and yet it is absolutely beautiful😊
Thanks Sally 😊
This is amazing and beautiful! It looks like a view of some ancient ruin! I love it!💜
Thank you so much!
Wow! It was totally worth it. It looks like an alien city in miniature. Just incredible. My oldest son is a chemist. I can’t wait to show him this. You really have topped yourself with this one.🎉
Can you ask him why the bismuth lost it's color? Could it be a ph problem?
Thanks so much 🥰
I’ll ask him. See if he has any insight for you.
I asked my son about your issue with the color loss. Naturally he got all technical on me. However the gist of it was that he suspects without knowing all the details, that it was oxidation. He says he’d have to do a little research on it but that was his gut instinct. The resin potentially oxidized the bismuth. I hope that was helpful.
@@user-ks7gf3pz7t Tell him my metallurgist hubby says it's an optical refraction off the surface molecules. The resin on top changed the way light hits, so no iridescence
WOW…. Just WOW ! Beautiful. Organic. Amazing. Great Job Dan!
Thanks so much Deb 🥰 🙏
Best statement ever, 'I need to heat it, melt it and poke it' 😂
😂😂😂
Stunning! Bismuth always reminds me of the staircases in Labrynth ❤
100% 🥰🥰
WOWZERS 😮 Amazing!!! Very time consuming, but definitely worth it 😊
Thanks Kelly 😊
Wow! Looks a bit like the steps of an Aztec temple 🛕 🤔 ❤
Wow, that's a stunning piece! Well done! Can't wait to see what else you make using this 😊♥️🏴
Thanks Linda 😊
Oooooh, that is just magical.Love it .Well worth the effort.
Wow, makes me think of bejeweled Aztec ruins. Beautiful.
Thanks Patricia 😊 🫂
On my WOW! That is just gorgeous Daniel!!! So glad you did not give in to the struggle and give up! I love watching all of your videos. I have even tried a few myself. Not successful tries but tried. I am still learning and have learned a great deal from you. Thank you for showcasing your talent and knowledge.
Oh, Daniel, Wow! Wow! Wow! These are amazing. The patience with detail work is amazing, too. 😁. I had no idea bismuth would do this. Not that I will do it, but I’m thrilled you figured it out. ❤❤❤
Thank you 😊
That is BEAUTIFUL!!! My favorite!!! Thank you for showing us the process..
Thanks so much 😊
😮😮WOW ‼️The Prof does it again, talk about STUNNING, it’s bloody gorgeous 😍😍
