    Hi, in Slovakia Kia/Hyundai stated that the update which will support battery pre-heating can be updated only in authorized service and they ask 50 eur for update. From their point if view it is not and update but upgrade for the olders cars and that is the reason why they asking to pay for it.

    I have booked my MSG GTL RWD into my dealer next week for the battery preconditioning update, with no problem at all. The update also involves a couple of other things to do with the head unit. The number of the KIA service bulletin if your dealer can't find it is KGE22-17 E131-CV.

    Hi Brian once again thanks for these videos, there really helpful
    I may have a stuip question but I'll ask it anyway.
    with regards to the preconditioning of the battery, can you pre condition when using a home (Pod Point) 7 kw charger ? would you need to ?
    if so how?

    • @evodessey
      @evodessey  Год назад

      Cheers. No you can’t as it needs to be a destination charger in the Nav system. Unless you could put a manual POI Charger in for your home address? I don’t think you need to at 7kw anyways. The slower the speed of charging the less resistance the charger is pushing against in the battery. For Ultra-rapid speeds (200kWh+) it makes a big difference though. They will probably release a manual battery heater button in the head unit now because i’ve said that it won’t do it😂. To be fair in really cold countries it probably would make some difference but i just don’t know how much.

    I really hope they will updated this with better logic in the future. To have a hard limit at 24%SOC is lazy programming imo. It should be dynamic, dependent on distance to chargestation and predicted consumption.

    For the public Tesla superchargers in the UK, does the navigation recognise them and therefore allow preconditioning? Also does it have to be Type 3 charger or does it also work for Type 2?

    • @evodessey
      @evodessey  Год назад

      Pre-conditioning only works with DC charging. The online Kia database only gets updated once a year. Last updated February i think. You would think that the 15 Tesla charging stations would appear but they don’t. I just tested Cardiff by setting destination to Cardiff Supercharger then searching for chargers near destination. It found nothing Tesla.

    Hi Brian, as another has mentioned, winter mode disappears after you get the upgrade and replaced with battery pre-conditioning. If this hasn’t changed then the update has not been fully done. Also if you have a model 21/22 it shows the snow flake. In model 23 its a heater element symbol. I haven’t tried this myself but I also believe if you set a destination and then the charging station as a waypoint/stop off point it also works. Not sure 100% but i have heard it works this way.

    • @evodessey
      @evodessey  Год назад

      Cheers for the info Mark. Quite few commenters from my previous videos are still seeing Winter Mode but the Snowflake still comes on for them as far as i know indicating the heater is working. Wish i could test this myself.

      @@evodessey That’s strange as mine had winter mode and then changed to battery pre-conditioning and the description info also changed. I have heard others having this situation, but the upgrade wasn’t fully completed or they didn’t have all the current software updates. I also heard others saying this and even with the snow flake it didn’t work?🤷🏻‍♂️. Be Interesting to see if the guys with snow mode and the snow flake comes up that it actually works? Stupid question but as there is a new navigation software update from Kia just been released. If i have my old update on my usb stick and need to download this which is well over 33gb. Can i delete the older July update from my USB to free up space for the new update? In other words I don’t need to leave the old update on my USB in order for the new one to work? Hope that makes sense. By the way people been getting 230kw at 4/5c over here with the new pre-conditioning update. 👍👍

      @@markgeezey1809 When you run the Navigation Updater from update.kia.com it compares what the USB version has to the version on Kia’s servers. • @EdwardPetersen
    @EdwardPetersen Год назад

    Is battery preconditioning only needed if you plan to charge at a level 3 charger? Meaning, if all the other conditions are met for temperature, but I'm charging at home with my level 1 or 2 charger, is it unnecessary? I have a garage, but all but the middle of the summer is below 21°C (~69°F) where I live, and in the winter, quite a bit colder than that.

    • @evodessey
      @evodessey  Год назад

      It only only works on DC Fast Charging 50-350kW chargers where you have set the destination of the fast charger in the Nav.

    • @EdwardPetersen
      @EdwardPetersen Год назад

      @@evodessey yeah, I'm just trying to figure out the nuance here. Does that mean battery preconditioning is unnecessary when charging at those lower levels, and that's why it doesn't engage? Because it exists to care for the battery, correct?

    • @evodessey
      @evodessey  Год назад

      @Edward Petersen As far as I know the BMS update is for DC fast charging. I don’t know for sure if Winter Mode engages the battery heater during AC charging. There is also no way to manually engage it. For sure the colder the battery becomes the more resistance there is and the slower it will charge. The only way to prove if Winter Mode engages Battery Heater when temperature drops below a certain level is to use Car Scanner & OBD dongle to monitor whilst charging.

    • @EdwardPetersen
      @EdwardPetersen Год назад

      @@evodessey Ah, that makes sense. So, although cooler weather clearly effects the ability for the battery to consume the electricity, it really only matters when it is DC. I'm glad I cleared that up. We are getting our Level 2 charger installed at the house tomorrow, just in time for our holiday driving. But we will still need to stop at a DC fast charger on the way to our destination. So we will be sure to set the *commercial charger* as the destination in our Nav, and not my in-laws house!
