  • One of the major marketing points of the Kia EV6 has been the 800 volt ultra-fast charging technology and its claim to charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. In this video, I’ll perform a charging test to find out if that really is true - you’ll be surprised by the results!

    Love my EV6. Funny how people have commented that waiting around for 18-20 minutes isn’t ideal, yet you could be waiting longer for gas at Costco! Line was huge when I drove by the other day.

      Take a road trip in the EV6, and you will spend HOURS at the chargers. Compared to just minutes at the gas pumps.

      @@genewcotton I have the EV6 Wind RWD. Compared to my wife's Toyota Camry gasoline car, the EV6 wastes *countless* hours every year at the battery chargers.
      Gas stations (petrol stations) are everywhere, and in less than 5 minutes I can put 400 miles of range into the Camry. That is easy living!

    I find it crazy expensive. If i get an electric car i will charge it at home as much as possible, i think the charging stations are gonna get worse with time. They will blame the crazy cost of charging on the infrastructures cost and maintenance.

    Super cool how far we have come. Iv been driving EV's for over 10 years and I learned early on without all the cool new features these days to stop at 80% and use the 240v or 110v for the rest of the 20%, lots of damaged battery packs from the early EV days when everyone thought they had to charge to %100 using the fast chargers, not mention they were paying that premium price for it.

    Thanks, very interesting, I have an EV6 in UK, but finding a charger capable of delivering that power is rare here.

    Really enjoying your EV6 videos while I wait for mine to arrive.
    Also, I was struck by how expensive charging is at public stations in your neck of the woods. That appears to be almost 3 X what charging at a level 3 DC charger costs here in Ontario (Canada). Yikes!

    Thanks for showing the graphs and the whole charging time. I thought it was bad to repeatedly charge to 100%. I've read that 80% is the sweet spot for road trips.

    A gasoline car can add 400 miles of range in 3 minutes.
    And 150,000+ gas pumps in America.

    • @Charlesbjtown
      @Charlesbjtown 6 месяцев назад

      And you'll spend $50 in those 3 minutes. And dc charging isn't what you'll be using probably 99% of the time anyway. You'll plug in at night, and be ready to roll in the morning.

    • @DerekDavis213
      @DerekDavis213 6 месяцев назад

      @@Charlesbjtown Over 100 million Americans rent, and cannot plug in at night. For those people, 5 minutes at the gas station once every *2* *weeks* is perfectly acceptable.

    so a car that can only take in 180kW of power is going to use a 350kW EVSE charger and still have the same 18-minute recharge time as all the others?

  • @mohgujai

    That's why it's called EV 6 because you can charge it ultra fast 6 month of the year. In the other months the best becomes the worst.
